37 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 10/28/2024

On 10/28 I received a phone call from my son stating he was trying to head home when he left his parking spot and the car would no go over 10 mph and all system alerts came on. He drove the car a couple yard and then parked it. I told him to stay there and I’d be there in 10 mins. He called a few minutes later to say the car was now acting fine. I told him to stay there because we would take the car to the dealership and leave it to be checked out the next day. I have made multiple attempts to get the fuel pump replaced to no avail. I keep being told by the dealership that the part is not available and they would call when it becomes available. I have called at least four different times to address this issue. My son drives this car down a four lane highway with a speed limit of 60mph. It has been concerning to me that the fuel pump may fail and a tractor trailer may come upon him and cause a crash due to the lag of our vehicle. I have also taken the car to the dealership and left it overnight because all the alerts come on and cycle through. I receive a call the next day from the dealership who is unable to recreate the issue. As a result of the recall and cycling of system messages, I believe the fuel pump to be the issue since symptoms aligned with the recall. I was informed two days later the issue was the head gasket and I was informed it would be better to replace the entire engine. I’ve since read all of the concerns with the 1. 5 liter turbo engines and believe the faulty design created this safety hazard. I submitted a case to Honda on 10/30 and have been contacting them since in an effort to resolve the issue. On Thursday 11/14 I asked that the case be escalated and have yet to have anyone from Honda contact me. I have contacted them at least 10 times over the past three weeks with absolutely no response.

41 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 08/15/2024

Issue: car loses power while driving. Event: started car, drove down a hill about 1. 5 miles. Tried to accelerate, lost all power, cel started blinking. Limped car to safe location but could not accelerate over 5 mph. Next start, all vehicle warning lights flashing on dashboard. Code reader threw a p0310, p0300 (engine misfire). Problem reproduced/confirmed by independent service center. Preliminary diagnostics (swapped ignition coils and spark plugs 1&2 to 3&4, reinspected, misfires still on 1&2) suggesting possible fuel injector faults. Recommended working with Honda directly for further diagnostics because fuel injectors are replaced as an assembly and often require programming by a dealer, also problem seems similar to recall issue. Concern: vehicle has 42,000 miles; fuel injectors should not fail at this mileage. Received a Honda safety recall letter in February 2024 NHTSA recall number: 23v-858/Honda campaign number kgc. Called Honda after unsafe driving event (loss of power while driving). Honda stated that the recall for my VIN was rescinded. However, the problem seems very likely related to this recall.

Failure Date: 06/27/2024

Blown cylinder head gasket required replacement by dealership. Per the dealership, the car displayed failure codes p0302 and p0303. Dealership covered 80% of the cost as "good will" but also mentioned this is a "known issue. " the check engine light had displayed just prior to the gasket failure. A day prior my wife and son described the vehicle as "shaking" when the car started (likely related to the engine misfiring as indicated by the p0302 and p0303 error codes found by the dealer) safety was at risk as wife was driving vehicle when the gasket failed - resulting in a loss of power to the engine and a potential risk for an accident in traffic. 48 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

While driving on the interstate the engine lost power and entered some sort of limp or low power mode. There were no warnings or indications of any problems on the dashboard. I was in heavy traffic at the time and suddenly a risk to others on the road and myself as the vehicle slowed dramatically despite my attempts to keep up with the flow of traffic. I had the dealer look at the vehicle and they indicated that the headgasket was in the early stages of failing. They indicated that the low power mode was due to engine misfires due to coolant in the combustion chamber. They did not have any explanation as to why a malfunction indicator light was not set nor did a light ever set. No check engine lights, no messages on the driver instrumentation display.

53 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 02/16/2024

Initially we had check engine light on and we felt that the car had difficulty to start after stopped at traffic light. We had to restarted the engine to solve the stall problem. We took the car to a mechanic and he changed oxygen sensor and spark plugs but the problem came back. Then we received the recall letter realized it was exactly the same problem we had. The mechanic re-examined the car and confirmed that fuel pump was the problem. The recall letter told us to wait for replacement. Since we did not have another car we had to use it. On February 16, the situation became worse. We almost ran into crash on high way 95. The check engine light kept flashing and the car seemed to lose power in the middle of high way. We managed to pull over. It was very scary and it was lucky to avoid any harm in this incident. . Talking to Honda service was not helpful. They insisted on us to pay diagnosis fee of $195 to do the evaluation and tried to deny the third-party mechanic's opinion. We lost trust of their objectivity to do a fair check.

56 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 02/01/2024

The vehicle began running rough spring 2023 and all the lights on the dashboard lit up. The local mechanic did not identify any serious problem and the lights all going off seemed to be a separate issue since the whole dashboard was lit up. We continued driving it out of necessity and eventually it began stalling. Then we took it back to our mechanic who identified the fuel injectors as the issue and recommended that we take it to the dealership. We took it to the dealership and they charged $3000 for the fuel injector replacement and also did some minor recall repairs. When my husband drove it off the lot, it stalled again so he brought it back and identified that it still was not repaired. They then kept it for 2-3 more weeks and repaired the head gasket. We took it home and drove it for another 6 mths and then it stalled again when my husband was driving at 65mph on a bridge. He safely pulled over but the vehicle had trouble restarting as it had in spring of 2023 from time to time when it was riding rough. This time there were no warning lights related to the issue. The dash now has some warning lights. We have not driven it since and the part for the fuel pump from Honda is not available until fall 2024 so we are without a vehicle even though we paid for a new vehicle that we hoped would last us beyond 6 years.

57 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 01/21/2024

My vehicle stalled out while driving on the highway, with all electrical components going haywire and the vehicle stopped accelerating or maintaining speed. After being towed 61 miles, my mechanic says that it is not making a loud noise when he tries to test-drive it, had no power, and returned many error codes, including one for the turbo. Mechanic believes that the turbo failed and triccered all electrical systems to go haywire. Honda dealership service tech confirms (without commitment, as they did not personally examine it) that the mechanics explanation makes sense and my experience describes what would happen if the turbo failed. In addition to putting me in an unsafe situation on the highway, this malfunction may end up costing me thousands between parts, labor, and towing costs. Research on the problem tells me this has happened to many other 2017-2017 crv owners and Honday has simply failed to address the issue. Unacceptable.

58 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 01/11/2024

Sudden unexpected acceleration. Multiple occurences during same outing, almost caused me to have an accident . Had to hard break while engine continued to surge. Had vehicle towed to Honda dealer. They said no code set and couldn't duplicate condition. They kept vehicle 2 weeks and drove multiple times but couldn't duplicate problem. Since no code set, nothing fixed. Do not believe any diagnosis on components were done. My opinion.

Our 2018 crv touring modelm has had the dashboard light up like a christmas tree with all codes flashing. We have had the vehicle to the local Honda dealer numerous times and also to a private garage. The battery has been changerd out, the Honda dealer performed a sparkplug recall and the car continues to do this with the dashboard lighting up showing all kinds of codes. Last evening for the second time the car would not go above 10 mph. I had to shut down the engine and restart. This is very dangerous. We bought the car brand new and have had all the maintenance done. My wife is afraid to drive the car, is there anything NHTSA can do to have Honda look into this problem. From my looking into this it appears quite a few Honda crv's are encountering this problem. This is unsafe. Thank you for your time, I look forward to hearing back from you.

I am writing to express my deep concerns regarding the 2018 Honda crv that I purchased from Honda dealership in bellevue, washington state just a few short months ago. Initially, after several week ago from the dealer, all warning lights on the dashboard were illuminated, prompting me to bring the car to your dealership for an evaluation. Following your team's assessment, the car was upgraded with software in accordance with service bulletin [link to the bulletin: https://static. Nhtsa. Gov/odi/tsbs/2019/mc-10154475-0001. Pdf however, this was only the beginning of our troubles. In the past few months, my family, including my 9-year-old son, has encountered a series of issues that have severely affected the safety and reliability of the vehicle. We rely on this car for various family activities, including picking our son up from school and transporting him to various extracurricular activities. On multiple occasions, my family has been exposed to a strong smell of gasoline within the vehicle while driving, even with my 9-year-old son and wife in the car. This issue has persisted and continues to be a major cause for concern. Despite these issues, when I reached out to the dealership for assistance, I was informed that I would be required to pay an inspection fee. Given the seriousness of the problems and the potential safety risks associated with the gasoline smell, I felt that it was unjust to be asked to cover this cost and, as a result, I declined the inspection. The most alarming incident occurred last Saturday oct 21 2023, while driving the vehicle from bellevue, to sammamish back home. The car abruptly lost all power while I was traveling at 40mph. This not only posed a significant safety hazard but also led to an emergency situation. I had to pull over, turn off the engine a couple times, and restart the car to regain power. We barely drove this vehicle back home. Throughout this incident, all engine warning lights were illuminated.

70 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 10/11/2023

Multiple engine failure codes appeared on dashboard. Took vehicle for inspection and diagnoses states code p0172 fuel system too rich. The service technician recommended fuel injector replacement due to faulty injectors. Service advisor did not file a warranty claim on my behalf despite my request to do so. When I called portfolio protection, they informed me that the technician did not call in the claim. Portfolio protection ever drive 250 limited powertrain coverage has an exception for injectors listed in the mechanical paragraph as follows: mechanical: this limited warranty does not provide coverage for service adjustments/cleaning, carburetor, throttle body assembly (except injectors), contaminated fuel system, water ingestion, air conditioning recharge, refrigerant, coolant, battery cables, belts, hoses, brakes (front hubs, drums, shoes, lining, disc rotors and pads), exhaust system, (. . . ) etc. Portfolio protection and barber Honda service advisor will not acknowledge the exception for injectors clearly stated in the contract. I took the steps required in the contract to file a claim and spoke to multiple adjusters at portfolio protection and they refused to acknowledge the exception for injectors. Honda has extended the warranty on fuel injectors for other vehicles due to faulty injectors and incorrect installation during the assembly process as stated on Honda service bulletin 22-002. This is clearly an ongoing issue with Honda and needs to encompass all vehicles.
