37 Suspension problem of the 2003 Honda Element

Failure Date: 10/02/2023

Same as the recalls for Honda Element of canada and american Honda crv of America in Honda’s words: summary: american Honda motor CO. , inc. (Honda) is recalling certain 2007-2011 model year cr-v vehicles. In salt-belt states where DE-icing agents are used to maintain the roadway, the DE-icing agents, along with mud and water, could enter the rear frame through drainage/positioning holes when the vehicle is driven through flooded areas or puddles at high speeds. Over time, the accumulated DE-icing agents/mud/water mixture could cause corrosion to the frame's internal structure. If this occurs, the rear trailing arm can fall off. Safety risk: the corrosion to the frame's internal structure can cause the rear trailing arm to fall off, increasing the risk of a crash or injury.

38 Suspension problem of the 2007 Honda Element

Failure Date: 09/16/2023

I was driving with my family to the local fair a few miles from home. When the steering got loose around a sharp bend at 35-40 mph. I was able to keep control and slow to where I could safely look at issues. Thankfully I was going slow. The mount for the rear trailing arm pulled out of the mounting location on the driver side.

39 Suspension problem of the 2007 Honda Element

Failure Date: 09/07/2023

We are trying to sell our 2007 Honda Element and have found there is extensive rust under the car, likely due to the NY road salt. We have older cars in the family / area without this problem. We found out canada has issued a recall over this matter. I have lost confidence that our car is safe to drive, well before the expected end of serviceable life. Can you have Honda remedy this situation.

40 Suspension problem of the 2009 Honda Element

Failure Date: 09/04/2023

The driver side rear trail arm broke free from under the vehicle. Vehicle loses control much like having flat tires but more violent fish tailing. Vehicle is hard to control to pull over to shoulder. Photos were shown to local Honda dealer representative, scott guyette. (gustman Honda in appleton WI). Scott guyette at the dealership stated that he has seen this numerous times on the Honda Element and they are currently fixing Honda crvs with the same issue. Email: (scott. Guyette@gustman. Com) he stated, don't tow it in, just send photos, which I did.

43 Suspension problem of the 2006 Honda Element

Failure Date: 08/09/2023

These cars have severe issues with their frames and they rot. There are tons of recalls in canada and I am wondering why the same recalls are not in the us - this is equally dangerous regardless of location - especially upstate NY where the climate is extremely similar to canada. I have had two life threatening incidents recently - one with the front axel completely breaking several months ago, and yesterday when the frame and rear axel fell apart. Fortunately both times, I was barely moving or I would likely not be here to be typing this. My frame is so rusted, it is disintegrating and beyond repair. I was advised by my local sheriff to check on the recalls in canada and there are so many, basically the whole frame is recalled - I am writing to report that I am in several Honda Element groups here in the us, and there are hundreds of life threatening posts in these groups regularly. This should absolutely be addressed. It is clearly a problem. As you can see in my attachments, otherwise the vehicle is in amazing condition. This is really devastating - and I have a vehicle that I cannot sell or trade-in. There is no value whatsoever and it is beyond repair.

44 Suspension problem of the 2003 Honda Element

Failure Date: 08/01/2023

The contact owns a 2003 Honda Element. The contact stated that while his daughter was driving at approximately 25 mph, the rear driver’s side tire detached from the vehicle. Despite the failure, the contact's daughter managed to drive the vehicle to the residence. Upon inspection, the contact discovered that the rear trailing arm had detached from the vehicle. Neither the dealer nor the manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 200,000. The VIN was not available.

45 Suspension problem of the 2004 Honda Element

Failure Date: 08/01/2023

The rear driver’s side trailing arm, which connects to the frame and body of the car, is rusted out to the point where it can no longer be driven safely. If the arm detaches from the body, it will cause an extremely dangerous situation which can even result in death. I can no longer drive this vehicle, even though the engine and transmission are strong. There is no repair for this without spending thousands of dollars to cut and repair the rusted area. This is an extremely common issue with the Honda Elements in areas that get snow. It needs to be addressed because it may cause serious harm to those are are not as familiar with the underside of their vehicle.

46 Suspension problem of the 2008 Honda Element

Failure Date: 05/31/2023

Left rear lower control arm frame rusted. Lower control arm detached from the vehicle. Appears to be a recall in canada on Element and crv but only crv in USA.

49 Suspension problem of the 2004 Honda Element

Failure Date: 05/18/2023

My air conditioner went out and I was going to put car in reverse to see if the fans were working. When I put the key in I didn't start the car because my key wouldn't go forward or backwards it was just stuck and the steering column locked up. When I first purchased the vehicle in October 2022 I had to have to front end suspension joints replaced the bar in the middle was cracked. It sounded and felt like the motor was going to fall out. I need to replace the back suspension due to very loud noises when driving like something is going to fall apart.

50 Suspension problem of the 2003 Honda Element

Failure Date: 05/15/2023

I was driving and felt something broke from the driver rear. I had a mechanic look at it and it was the trailing arm. Inspector said it not safe to drive. I see there is a recall in canada but not in America. This is a safety matter. How can we fix this since it the frame?.

51 Suspension problem of the 2007 Honda Element

Failure Date: 05/04/2023

Rusted detached rear trailing arm. This is the same part involved in the Honda cr-v recall. This recall should be extended to the Honda Element which is on the same platform.

The contact owns a 2008 Honda Element. The vehicle was inspected by an independent mechanic and the contact was informed that the rear driver’s side trailing arm had detached from the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 170,000.

53 Suspension problem of the 2010 Honda Element

Failure Date: 04/07/2023

I've been informed by my mechanic of excessive rust on the rear suspension. The car will not pass state inspection due to safety issues related to this. An appointment has been made with the Honda dealership to confirm. Honda has put out a recall/buy back for the same issue on the Element and the crv in canada, where there are areas of high salt usage. Honda has done the same for the crv in northern 'high salt use' states but not yet the Element. I first heard knocking in the rear about 6 months ago but have generally been ignoring it. After an inspection following an unrelated issue is when I was alerted that the knocking was due to this. These are the details for the canada recall: Honda is recalling all 2003-2011 Element suvs, warning of rusting rear frames that could result in the complete separation of the rear trailing arm. According to transport canada, this recall applies to vehicles originally sold, or currently registered in areas of heavy road salt usage. This includes, but is not limited to ontario, quebec, new brunswick, nova scotia, prince edward island and newfoundland and labrador. Signs of a worn rear trailing arm include difficulty to maintain a straight line, thudding noises coming from the rear and the appearance of the vehicle having been lifted. In a worst case scenario, the vehicle may lose control. Transport canada elaborates that owners will be notified by mail to send their vehicle to dealers, who will inspect the vehicle for corrosion in the rear trailing arm front mount bolts. If passed, corrosion protection and support braces will be installed. If failed, Honda will offer to repurchase the vehicle. However, secondary inspections and body shop repairs are also possible. For more information on recall number 2021024, visit transport canada.

56 Suspension problem of the 2004 Honda Element

Failure Date: 03/01/2023

The fuel filler neck has rusted through. If pumping gas into the vehicle, gasoline runs onto the ground by the rear tire. The rear trailing arm of the suspension has significant rust. I am concerned this suspension part could fail and become unattached to the vehicle frame/body. The canadian transportation board has ordered a recall to repairs these issues. From transport canada: toronto, ontario — Honda is recalling all 2003-2011 Element suvs, warning of rusting rear frames that could result in the complete separation of the rear trailing arm.

57 Suspension problem of the 2007 Honda Element

Failure Date: 01/09/2023

The left rear trailing arm mount is very rusty as is the inner rocker. This is a problem with both the crv and Element ,it's a safety issue because the mount can detach and cause a accident. This vehicle has had a yearly inspection in my state and has passed I am concerned it won't in the future because of trailing arm rust. The Element are built on the same platform as the crv witch is being recalled for this problem. The Elements are being recalled in canada for this problem.

58 Suspension problem of the 2005 Honda Element

Failure Date: 01/09/2023

I have a 2005 Honda Element, undercarriage and suspension components have severe rust. I tried to get an inspection from virginia and it failed immediately due to the rust. The mechanic lowered the vehicle as quickly as he could because of it falling off the lift. Ultimately he told it is unsafe to drive. After doing some research I found out that Honda canada has done a recall on Honda Elements from 2003-2010 due to this common issue and here is what they wrote. Issue: on certain vehicles, the rear frame could rust. In extreme cases, this could result in a rear trailing arm separating from the vehicle. This recall applies to vehicles originally sold or currently registered in areas of heavy road salt usage (ontario, quebec, new brunswick, nova scotia, prince edward island, and newfoundland & labrador). Safety risk: a rear trailing arm that separates could cause a loss of control and increase the risk of a crash. Corrective actions: Honda will notify owners by mail. Owners will be instructed to take their vehicle to a dealer for an inspection of the rear trailing arm front mount bolts. If the vehicle passes the inspection, the dealer will apply corrosion protection and install support braces. Honda will offer to repurchase vehicles that do not pass the inspection. In the event the repurchase is declined by an owner, a secondary inspection and body shop repair method may be possible.

59 Suspension problem of the 2010 Honda Element

Failure Date: 11/10/2022

Drivers side rear trailing arm separated from chassis. This occurred while backing out of a parking spot causing the left rear wheel to turn outward. When this happened I had to turn the steering wheel left to keep vehicle going straight forward and this was at an idling speed. We had just a few days prior returned from an 1800 mile trip. Had this occurred at interstate speeds it most likely would have been catastrophic resulting in serious perhaps fatal consequences. The otherwise great vehicle is not repairable according to the diagnoses from my Honda dealer.

60 Suspension problem of the 2003 Honda Element

Failure Date: 10/27/2022

My 2003 has severe rust around undercarriage mainly in the rear. The rear frame is corroded causing my drivers side trailing arm to come loose while driving on the highway. I almost lost control as the rear started to fishtail. Luckily I had no vehicles next to me which would have caused a major accident. I've done research and they do have the recall in canada but not here in the USA. Honda should immediately have that recall before someone gets seriously hurt or even worse!.

61 Suspension problem of the 2003 Honda Element

Failure Date: 10/13/2022

The car was being driven at a low speed across a school parking lot when there was a loud bang, the car dropped in the back and stopped movong. The rear trailing arm came apart from the body causing it to be inoperable. If I the car wasn't in a school zone and traveling at a high rate of speed this could have been a very serious accident. If there was a vehicle behind they would have rear ended the Honda. If this happens on going down a hill it would have rolled over. If this happened on a busy highway it would have caused a multi car accident. Honda is aware of this issue in canada but has done nothing to address it here in the united states. The vehicle is available for inspection for now. I can't have a vehicle sitting in my driveway that's inoperable due to city codes. The safety of the driver, passengers, pedestrians walking and other vehicles on the road are in danger. This is a very top heavy vehicle that could easily flip and roll over causing seriously injury even death. I had the vehicle towed from where it broke, the tow truck driver is a mechanic who looked at it. He said what broke. I had another mechanic stop and look because he is a welder and said it can't be repaired at this point. There were no warning lights or signs of this happening. Unless you live in canada where they sent owners a recall in the mail as long as they live in areas that have high salt usage on their roads. . . . . . . Not sure why that just pertains to canada because, michigan, new york, vermont, new hampshire, maine all get bad winters where salt is used. A vehicle should not disintegrate and fall apart like the Hondas are. They are a danger on the road right now. This is the recall for this exact same problem in canada https://wwwapps. Tc. Gc. Ca/saf-sec-sur/7/vrdb-bdrv/search-recherche/detail. 62 Suspension problem of the 2003 Honda Element

Failure Date: 10/03/2022

The drivers side mount for the rear trailing arm has rusted to the point it may be unsafe to drive according to my mechanic. I looked online and saw that Honda has issued a recall campaign in canada but not the us. I do know from my local dealer that Honda did have them bring in several customer cars for inspection and several of those also had the same problem. These cars that have been affected certainly are not safe to drive in my opinion.

63 Suspension problem of the 2007 Honda Element

Failure Date: 09/18/2022

Rear suspension failure due to excessive corrosion. Fortunately failure occurred at low speed. Total loss of control would have happened at high speed. Independent body shops confirm this damage is not repairable. Please note that there is a recall for Honda Elements in canada for the same defect. I called american Honda and they deny any knowledge of this defect in the u. S.

64 Suspension problem of the 2007 Honda Element

Failure Date: 09/18/2022

Rear suspension failure due to excessive chassis corosion. Fortunately failure occurred at low speed. Total loss of control would result at high speed. Independent body shops confirm this defect is not reairable. Please note that there is a recall for Honda Elements in canada for this same defect. I called american Honda and they deny any knowledge of this defect in the u. S.

65 Suspension problem of the 2004 Honda Element

Failure Date: 08/17/2022

Excessive corrosion rear suspension near control arm. Honda has already issued a recall in canada. I was unaware of this problem until a big piece of rusty metal fell off the bottom of my car when I closed the rear driver’s door. My control arm is ready to fall out which could have led to a fatal accident. There are Honda forums all over the internet with thousands of posts in the USA with the same issue as the canada recall.

66 Suspension problem of the 2008 Honda Element

Failure Date: 05/28/2022

The rear trailing arm mounts rust right off the car and the entire piece falls off out of nowhere. I was lucky to be going about 10 mph when this happened to me and it slide the car sideways . I have no doubt I would have flipped at highway speeds. I’ve seen hundreds of other Elements with the same issues on forums it’s bad enough that in canada they have a buyback. The police where there quickly and saw it and said the same but. Insurance won’t do anything cause it’s a part that broke. Away from the body and I was going slow enough. No warning even had tires installed a few days prior and they didn’t see anything that was scary.

67 Suspension problem of the 2003 Honda Element

Failure Date: 03/07/2022

The contact owns a 2003 Honda Element. The contact stated that while the contact's wife was driving at an undisclosed speed, the trailer arm fractured. In addition, the rear of the vehicle dropped to the ground and the driver's rear side of the vehicle was dragged onto the ground. The vehicle was towed to the contact's residence. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 180,000.

68 Suspension problem of the 2005 Honda Element

Failure Date: 11/14/2021

I was driving and all of a sudden vehicle became hard to control. I got it stopped and noticed drivers side rear tire was sideways. Upon inspection I noticed trail arm was broke loose at frame. Apparently it had rusted through at the frame.

69 Suspension problem of the 2005 Honda Element

Failure Date: 11/02/2021

I was driving and left rear trail arm connecting wheel to frame broke loose. Upon inspection I noticed the frame was so rusted in that one spot causing trail arm to break loose which caused me to lose control of vehicle very dangerous!.

70 Suspension problem of the 2007 Honda Element

Failure Date: 09/11/2021

While driving, without notice at all, the drivers side rear suspension ,wheel, and all the holds it together became dislocated/disassembled from the car while going about 40mph. Upon further investigation, I found the whole frame mount for the rear suspension had completely rotted away and caused this whole issue. No prior warning at all!! this is a potentiality deadly issue. . I had just come off the highway doin 70 mph. . . If this would of happened there. . . It would of been a completely different outcome. The year/make/model of my vehicle has already been recalled for this issue. . But my VIN # wasn't included?. ?. ?. This is wrong!! this is a serious issue that no amount of maintenance will stop!!.
