1 Car Accelerates On Its Own problem of the 2017 Honda FIT

Failure Date: 03/04/2020

I have a 2017 Honda Fit lx. As I was driving down a decline on a city street I was tapping the brakes to slow down the vehicle to keep it at or under the speed limit. As I got to the bottom of the decline the traffic light turned red so I applied the brakes significantly harder and constant. As I braked for the stoplight the engine revved up and I had a hard time coming to a complete stop before the stoplight. Even at a complete stop the engine was revving. I put the car in park to try to stop the engine from revving but it didn't help. The engine continued to rev at a constant rate. I tried to take the car out of park and put it in a low gear to get the system to reset but I could not get the vehicle out of park. The only thing that stopped the engine from revving was turning the car off. I have no idea what caused the sudden acceleration of the engine as I stopped and why it continued in park but I figured if it happened to me that it could also happen to someone else in the future so it should be reported.

2 Car Accelerates On Its Own problem of the 2015 Honda FIT

Failure Date: 11/01/2019

My car accceilerated twice without the driver touching the accelerator. It happened while parking as the car was creeping forward in the parking space and suddenly sped up. I had to stamp on the brake to stop it. I do not know why, but I found out that cars of the same make , model and year in japan were recalled for spontaneous acceleration and it was a software problem. I have not had an accident, but it is clearly dangerous and could result in accident or injury if the car hit and object or a person. If I had not been able to stop the car, I would have hit the cement wall of a building.

4 Car Accelerates On Its Own problem of the 2015 Honda FIT

Failure Date: 02/16/2016

Unintended and sudden acceleration. November 2015 the car was making a right hand turn into a parking space, while pressing the brake the car suddenly accelerated the brakes did not work, the car traveled about 70 feet before stopping. Took it to tom wood Honda all they checked was the brakes and said it was fine. Update: February 2016 making a right hand turn into a parking space at a panera bread gently tapped the brakes the car accelerated and went thru the door at panera bread. Tom wood Honda checked the brakes says its fine and released it to the collision center. I am making lease payments on this car but when it's repaired it is staying at the lot. It accelerates on it's own and is going to kill someone. I cannot allow anyone in my family to drive it. I also cannot afford insurance wise to drive a car I know accelerates when it decides to.

7 Car Accelerates On Its Own problem of the 2007 Honda FIT

Failure Date: 02/18/2015

I drove into my driveway to park in our car port. As I approached the car port the car suddenly accelerated. I applied the brakes but it did not even slow down. The car went over a 8 inch by 4 inch barrier at the front of the car port, continued to gain speed as it went through a small garden, then it knocked down our privacy fence. All during this time I was applying the brake. The car then went about 60 feet through our neighbors yard and continued through the next houses' privacy fence and went another 6 feet and finally stopped when it hit the house. The air bags never released.

8 Car Accelerates On Its Own problem of the 2010 Honda FIT

Failure Date: 09/26/2014

On local street medium traffic was driving really slow to anticipate the red light, light went green so I stepped on the gas pedal lightly but the Honda Fit seemed to have greater speed than I expected and the van in front of me did not seem to be moving at all but his third brake light was out and he said he was not braking at that time and I knew I would crash so I checked right side and maneuvered to change lane to the right to reduce point of contact and clipped the left rear of the van. It felt like it was sudden acceleration - I am not feeling safe with the car as freeway traffic in la is stop and go and I normally drive the canyon daily. I also had the vehicle change oil, brake pads and tires serviced the day before.

12 Car Accelerates On Its Own problem of the 2008 Honda FIT

Failure Date: 09/23/2012

When I backed out of my daughter's driveway, I tried to shift the automatic transmission from park to reverse. It clicked but would not go in reverse as I lifted my foot from the brake. It rolled forward slightly. I put it back in park again and decided to try once more. There was no floor mat on the floor. There were no cars coming at this point. I shifted into reverse and removed my foot slowly from the brake. The car flew into the street with rapid acceleration and I couldn't brake for an oncoming car, which I crashed into. The Fit's left tail light and bumper were hit at such an angle and impact that my car spun forward and the transmission moved into drive. The air bag did not deploy. The brakes would not stop the car and it went zooming across my daughter's lawn, almost hitting a huge palm tree and a utility pole. It then spun around and finally stopped before it almost crashed into my daughter's house where my grandson was watching behind the window. The occupants of the other car in the crash said they had never seen anything like this and were willing to testify to that fact. The police report lists mechanical failure as the cause. The Honda Fit was towed to an auto body shop and repaired at a cost of $4400. The repair people would not test drive it because they were afraid to. They demanded that the car be towed to the Honda dealer for inspection. The tow truck driver experienced the rapid acceleration problem too as he was moving the car to the tow truck. He had to remove the key. The Honda dealer said they inspected the car and could find nothing wrong. I won't drive that car again and traded it in at Honda. They said the car was going to auction. Whoever buys that car could have a major problem.

13 Car Accelerates On Its Own problem of the 2012 Honda FIT

Failure Date: 07/10/2012

This was the first of two incidents of sudden acceleration. Both times parking the car and giving it a little gas to ease into a space the car took off at high rate of speed; the first time, almost crashing into my garage door and the second time jumping a sidewalk and almost hitting a metal hand rail. I took it to Honda dealership and they said they could find nothing wrong, and said I must have hit both brake and accelerator at same time. However, since my foot is too small to be able to do that, and I was driving barefoot at the time, I am positive that was not what happened. After receiving car back, I checked and was unable to place my foot on both pedals at the same time.

15 Car Accelerates On Its Own problem of the 2008 Honda FIT

Failure Date: 09/16/2011

After backing slowly out of a parking place, I put the automatic transmission into drive. My foot was still touching the brake pedal and the car suddenly accelerated rapidly. I slammed my foot down on the brake, but it continued to move forward. I quickly moved the gearshift to neutral, the engine raced and then slowly returned to idle. I immediately stopped and checked the floor mat, but it was flat on the floor. My foot was not on the accelerator when the acceleration occurred, and if the mat were interfering with the accelerator pedal, the engine speed would not have raced and then slowly decreased after I put it in neutral. This was clearly a malfunction. I have an engineering background and know the difference between driver foot error and equipment malfunction.

18 Car Accelerates On Its Own problem of the 2009 Honda FIT

Failure Date: 11/27/2010

Hi, I would like to report a sudden acceleration problem with my 2009 Honda Fit sport model. The incidence happened while I was traveling between 5 to 10 miles per hour. I was trying to park the car. I let the car slowly rolled forward into the empty parking spot ahead. Because I was traveling at pretty low speed, so I only gently applied the brake pedal as I was getting closer to the empty parking spot. As I slowly pressed on the brake, the car just suddenly accelerated. The car shot ahead. I quickly released my foot on the brake pedal and applied the hand brake. After the car came to a complete stop, it actually rolled over on the side walk. Luckily, no one was on the sidewalk and no damage or injury occurred. I have been driving the Honda Fit for 1. 5 year and this is the only time I noticed such a problem. I plan to bring the car in for service in the next few weeks.
