We own a 2016 Honda Fit with 52,000 miles, and the fuel gauge/speed/odometer display does not work. It completely fails in the cold. This is major safety issue since we can't read the fuel level nor see how fast or slow I'm driving. Our car is currently at the conicelli Honda dealership. After trying to get this fix or diagnosed for years, conicelli thinks the problem is a loose or failing solder joint. I spoke with Honda and they is no current recall on this problem. . Read more...

3 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2013 Honda FIT

Failure Date: 11/19/2022

While my wife was coming to a stop in a parking space, the car suddenly accelerated and jumped over the curb into a pedestrian walkway. The car could not be stopped with the brake and continued moving over the walkway. Afraid that the car would hit a pedestrian or crash into cars on the busy street ahead, she was ready to stop the car by crashing it into a concrete column. Fortunately, she removed the key and the car stopped. A similar incident occurred in 2014 when the car suddenly accelerated while I was? ??coming ?to a stop ?at a traffic light. In order to avoid hitting the car in front of me, I stopped by removing the key. Then I drove the car to the dealer. A master mechanic checked? ?the car but could not duplicate the problem. In 2020, the car again accelerated suddenly while ?stopping at a traffic light. I stopped the car immediately but did not report the incident. After the third incident?,? we contacted the dealer and stated that we did not want to drive the car ever again because we did not want to risk injuring ourselves or others. We had the car towed to the dealer to be checked. The dealer could not duplicate the problem and they demonstrated safety features of the car that prevent the? accelerator? from overpowering the brake. We were not convinced since we use the same foot to operate the accelerator and the brake. Therefore, when the foot is on the brake, nothing is pushing the accelerator. The engine was accelerating by itself, possibly by the engine control software. We then initiated a case with american Honda. We were later informed by an american Honda case manager that their field technical specialist had determined that “the vehicle is functioning according to Honda’s specifications” and that Honda was not going to investigate further. The local dealer agreed to buy the car at market price.

4 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2019 Honda FIT

Failure Date: 07/31/2021

The vehicle started to bounce and accelerated on its own while making a left turn and was not responding to brakes to slow down and kept going faster and faster. The vehicle was only responding to steering. The car went up a curb into a yard, heading to a house , which was avoided by steering to the driveway and hit a parked car, then proceeded to a car parked on the street, then continued across the street and struck a truck facing the opposite way, which bounced the car into a yard and hit a tree which bounced it back and finally stopped by a electrical line. 4 collisions and no airbag. Because it was 4;45am in a neighborhood street, no one was injured. The car is totaled by the body shop and insurance company is not willing to pursue with manufacturer. The spontaneous acceleration, brakes and airbags are major safety failures. If this was any other time of day or on other busy streets, the outcome could be much worse. I read online that there was a software issue with this vehicle for acceleration in japan and others who have had this problem here in the us. I would like this investigated and reported.

6 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2018 Honda FIT

Failure Date: 01/31/2021

All vehicle warning lights came on specifically the check engine light for an emissions system problem. At the time the car had around 100,000 miles so it was suspected that the issue had to be with the battery, O2 sensors, or spark plug and ignition coil, so those parts were replaced. The vehicle still shows all the warning lights and reads codes for misfires in the first and second cylinder. If the issue with the fuel injectors was recalled and fixed for the 2015-2016 model Honda Fit, then it cant possibly be that the 2017-2020 Honda Fits also have a fuel injector problem, unless they also do and the issue has been neglected.

22 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2009 Honda FIT

Failure Date: 08/26/2014

My wife was driving the car when this happened. It has occurred twice. This vehicle has an electronic throttle system. The check engine light came on the car loses the ability to accelerate. I have not had it happen to me yet. I took the car to autozone and they read the stored codes from the obd system which indicated the throttle positioning sensor had generated a fault. The fault seems to go away and the check engine is no longer illuminated. It seems to go away by shutting off and restarting the car. This seems to be a considerable safety problem since you could get rear ended when this happens.

23 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2007 Honda FIT

Failure Date: 08/02/2014

Honda Fit sport :engine warning light stays on for weeks then turns off unexpectedly then back on again since about August 2014. I completed the 120,000 mile recommended service at the Honda dealership near where I was at the time but the engine light came back on then off again intermittently regardless of the service. Not sure if it is related to the engine surge I am worried about now (March 2015) accompanied by my paddle shifters not working while in d mode. I experienced this when accelerating at 20mph and again at 35mph my engine had high rpms the engine sounded like it surged and made a thud as though the engine would fall out of my car. I was really nervous to continue driving in stop and go traffic as each time I accelerated it happened again at 20 mph. At my destination for two hours I then drove home with some hills and winding roads and put my car in s mode to see if paddle shifters would work or reset in some manner, which it did start working. The surging ceased to happen in s mode so I decided to shift into d mode to see if paddle shifters would work properly and they did as I continued to drive home forty minutes. The orange engine light is still on and paddle shifters seem to be working in both s and d mode now wondering what to get checked out. Since I spent all that money on the major service and was told the car should work well for the next 150,000 it's now near 148,000 miles I want to know whether I can count on the paddle shifters or if they will fail me again. The engine warning light usually turns off once I get an oil change and reset it has remained on. I don't know if a diagnostic will reveal anything or if I should just get the paddle shifters checked. I use the paddle shifters a great deal while in d mode over the past eight years I have owned the car since I bought it new I am the original owner and only person driving the vehicle.

34 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2013 Honda FIT

Failure Date: 01/09/2013

I was entering a parking place at approximately 3 mph, trying to adjust the angle of entry. When I stepped on the accelerator the car bolted forward. I applied the brake but the acceleration was too fast to keep the brake from stopping the car from colliding with the guard rail. The impact caused the air bags to eject. The hood was dented, the right fender and bumper were disengaged from the body and the right headlight was broken. The repair came to over $10,000. If the guard rail hadn't stopped the car it would have gone over from the 6th floor to the 5th floor. Fortunately my passenger and I were not injured due to the air bags ejecting. My concern with this car is that the accelerator pedal is too "touchy. " the dealer had his mechanic check the car after it was fixed declaring that this was the nature of that model. Had I known that I would not have purchased the car. I'm still wary about driving the car three months later.
