1 Lose Power Steering problem of the 2013 Honda FIT

Failure Date: 12/15/2019

My 2013 Honda Fit has only 76,000 on it. While driving the radio shut off, head lights dimmed, dash board lights flickered and I lost power steering. Took it to the Honda service station in jasper alabama and they could not find the problem. The engine light and steering wheel with exclamation point showed up on the dash board. Car looses power steering while driving for a few seconds and then comes back on. This is very dangerous. With a vehicle with less than 80,000 miles on it this should be recalled as I am not the only one on this forum to have a complaint about this exact issue.

2 Lose Power Steering problem of the 2013 Honda FIT

Failure Date: 04/23/2019

While driving the radio, dash lights, head lights, and power steering cuts out for a moment then comes back on. This started occasionally 3 months ago with just the radio and dash lights and has progressed to several times in a row and now includes the head lights and power steering. There is no predictability to when or how many times it will happen. Once it happened when I was coming off the highway going around the ramp at a good speed, the electrical went out I lost power steering and almost hit the guard rail it came back on just in time for me to regain control. Took it to Honda dealer with my complaints; they did a multi point inspection and checked faults-no faults stored. Also checked wiring and connectors-all ok. Told me it was probably the after market starter, I should be fine, to contact the starter people as it is most likely their product issue and not Honda's, then sent me home charging me over an hour of labor. A few days later it cut out 12 times in less than 3 mile; I had to find a gas station to pull over in as I did not feel safe driving the car. Turned it off & let it sit for a few minutes, started it again & had no further issues until the following day when it happened another 8 times in a row. Contacted the car starter company told them what was going on; they removed the starter. But told me he looked it up online & discovered this has happened to other Honda Fits & is most likely related to a faulty alternator. Another issue related with this alternator problem is dead batteries which has happened to me as well & am on my 3rd battery with in 6 years! the car starter guy said he was concerned with my safety & to have it looked at by my mechanic and have them look at the alternator. Well 2 days later the check engine light came on & is in the garage today; not the Honda dealership.

3 Lose Power Steering problem of the 2009 Honda FIT

Failure Date: 10/20/2018

The car dashboard lights/radio lost all power for 2-3 seconds and then the eps light on the dashboard lit up. The car lost power steering and was extremely hard to steer during this time. Steering wheel locked while driving and could not turn it for the 2-3 seconds that the car systems were 'offline. ' the next day, the car did the same thing and I lost power steering while driving at various speeds in various weathers throughout the day on both the highway and back roads. Utterly terrifying. Towed it to the Honda dealership. They were unable to replicate the issues and car was returned to me with 0 fixes done. Was advised to pick up the vehicle and drive it as normal since no complaints could be proven with diagnostic testing. Drove it with trepidation for the next 5 days and on the 5th day, the car again lost all power to vehicle, dashboard lights lit up, engine light lit up, radio turned off and turned back on, steering became very difficult and wheel locked while driving. Car continued to do this over the period of an hr 50+ times. Parked car, video recorded it losing power, eps light turning on/radio turning on/off, steering wheel locking while parking and driving. Towed it a 2nd time to the Honda dealership who has driven it a total of 38 miles with nothing being able to be proven with diagnostic testing. No hard codes to be found, as anytime the car is turned off all codes are erased from the eps system. Called Honda corp. And they stated since there is no recall on my VIN number that no problem exists for this vehicle and since the dealership cannot prove any issues through diagnostic testing that my claim is unfounded. Honda service bulletin 14-058 was released and the warranty extended for 2007-08 Honda Fits, but they are denying issues with 2009 even though there are reports all over the internet about them. Dealership unwilling to fix 'unknown issue'.

4 Lose Power Steering problem of the 2009 Honda FIT

Failure Date: 09/04/2017

The car loses power steering and the car becomes difficult to steer. This has happened when the car was moving forward at ~40mph and when trying to parallel park as well as parking head-in. As of 9/5/17, the power steering has failed four times. The electronic power steering light comes on each time. The temperature has never been below 50 degrees when the power steering has failed. Sometimes the radio shuts off when the power steering fails, but not always. Honda has issued an extended warranty for the power steering in 2007-08 Honda Fits, but not for 2009 Fits.

5 Lose Power Steering problem of the 2011 Honda FIT

Failure Date: 06/22/2016

Lost power steering while driving on the hwy in my 2011 Honda Fit with about 58,500 miles driven. . Had car parked in the sun for several hours with ambient temperature of 92f, got in and drove home, had radio on, a/c on, gas level close to the empty indicator ("e"). , and within 5 minutes of driving, was on the freeway at that time, the electric power assisted steering functionality failed. I almost lost control of vehicle, steering was heavy and difficult, no lights illuminated to indicate a problem, was able to stay in # 1 lane till I reached home. When I started the car the following day, and power assist functionality was magically restored. I visited the local Honda dealership service department and service representative claimed that he has not heard of such problems with the Honda Fit, even for earlier years when I asked specifically. Service representative was not even interested in hooking up any devices to see if information can be retrieved from the computer in the car.

6 Lose Power Steering problem of the 2009 Honda FIT

Failure Date: 07/14/2015

3x while driving the electronic power steering light came on. I lost power steering for 2-3 seconds each time which spontaneously restored itself while driving. Each time this happened the radio would also cut out for the duration of the incident. This is the first time I have ever lost power steering or had the electronic power steering light come on.

7 Lose Power Steering problem of the 2007 Honda FIT

Failure Date: 10/03/2012

While driving my car across a busy intersection, I was wanting to turn left and in doing so, the power steering went out of the car and I headed right into oncoming traffic. I was unable to re-attain power steering and had to get my car pushed into a parking lot. This is the third time I have lost power steering (first time while driving in a busy intersection). I no longer feel safe driving my car as it had the potential to be a very dangerous incident. I have read on multiple websites that this has been an issues for Honda Fits but there has still not been a recall issued. I know that I feel unsafe now in my own car, something I would never want anyone to feel. This needs to be issued as a recall to ensure that no injuries are sustained due to this occurring. I have taken the car to the dealership, however they are not showing any idenfication code that the incident occurred. Due to the fact that this has happened on multiple occasions and there is a service bulliten out, it is only right to issue a recall and ensure everyone's safety on the road.

8 Lose Power Steering problem of the 2008 Honda FIT

Failure Date: 02/24/2010

We own a 2008 Honda Fit. At the time of the incident we had approx 48k miles on the vehicle. On a few occasions when starting the car in the morning, the power steering indicator light would come on and the vehicle would have no power steering. . Turning off the car and restarting the vehicle would reset the indicator light and power steering would return. At the end of Feb 2010 my husband was on the freeway traveling at @75mph when the light came on and power steering went out in the vehicle. He was able to get to the side of the road with no incident. He turned the car off and on and the indicator light went off and power steering returned. At the dealership, we were advised Honda has an internal bulletin that the error codes in the vehicle indicate a problem with the electronic power steering module, a chip of some sort, and that it needs to be replaced. The fix is due to cost us over $700. The part is not covered because we are beyond our 36k factory warranty. We believe it is a safety issue. If we were to lose power steering when navigating a turn crossing lanes of traffic etc, the sudden loss of power steering could cause a hazardous situation. We called Honda directly and submitted a complaint and asked that they cover the cost of the part and the fix. Considering that the vehicle has less than 50k miles on it, and that the part is faulty and causes a safety hazard. Honda denied our request.

2007 Honda Fit lost power steering without warning, becoming very hard to steer. Dealer reports code #61-04. There is a July 2009 service bulletin on this problem suggesting replacement of the eps control unit, which has been done. An internet search suggests this problem is common--there should be a recall, as serious accidents could occur as a result of sudden loss of power steering.

10 Lose Power Steering problem of the 2007 Honda FIT

11 Lose Power Steering problem of the 2007 Honda FIT

Failure Date: 12/01/2008

Lost of power steering on 2007/2008 Honda Fit. Normally on very cold days when the car is cold. In the morning on first startup or after the car has been parked for long time. The powering steering does not work. Usually can turn the car off and restart to fix the problem. But sometimes have to do this several times. Twice it has quit while I was actually driving both times were with in the first 5 miles of driving from home and work, lost of power steering. Problem has happened many times over several years but is intermittent to when it happens. Normally happens about 1-3 times a week during the winter season of about 3 months. Honda does have a service bulletin about the problem now #09-043. Problem seem to be the eps unit, part number 39980-sln-a21. I seriously consider this a safety problem as you all of a sudden can lost your steering ability while driving. The problem is not normal and I think Honda should recall this car to fix this problem. I just read that the gm cars and Acura cars have a similar power steering problem and gm is recalling their cars to fix it. This thread documents other people that have the same exact problem I have. . Read more...
