Power steering failure. Followed by warning light and very heavy steering, was driving at about forty to forty five mph on a paved road in traffic. Stopped, shut the engine off. After a few minutes restarted the engine, the ps failure light was out, the ps worked but only for about five seconds. The ps failure light came back on and the ps failed again. Drove home and parked the car.
Power steering failed multiple times while driving, and the radio cut out many times as well. When the power steering failed I veered into oncoming traffic and was unable to turn the wheel until it restored. Fortunately I was going less than 30mph, and avoided an accident. Upon researching this problem I see that many others have had the exact same issue. I am too afraid to drive the car as I live in a busy downtown area. This happened while driving in the city while traveling straight as well as turning.

I was driving down a city road going 45 mph driving straight and my steering wheel jerked out from both hands and swerved me, my wife, and our infant daughter into the oncoming lane. The power steering then went out and I was able to regain control of the car. Luckily there was no oncoming traffic. We stopped at a gas station. Upon restarting the car, the power steering came back on. We have had the power steering fail on us before, but it had never jerked the wheel out of my hands like it did this time. In another instance, we were driving 65 mph on the highway (driving straight), and the eps gave out first one one side, and then the other, pulling hard on one side, but not pulling the wheel from my hands. I took my Honda Fit to a local dealer. There is a service bulletin and a warranty extension for this issue. I have a rebuilt title on my car and the warranty doesn't cover my issue. This should be a factory recall.
Recently my 2011 Honda Fit has been having intermittent power steering failures. It has happened 3 times in one week to date where I have started the car to drive to work in the morning and the steering is very heavy for a few seconds like an old manual steering car. The power steering kicked back in once after continuing to drive the car and on the other two occasions after stopping the car and restarting it.
Tl-the contact owns a 2009 Honda Fit. The contact stated that while driving at any speed, the power steering would failed then it will be ok. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the racking pinion power steering system needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. However, the failure recurred and the instrument panel light illuminated. The failure recurred seven times while driving. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 63,250. Aw.
Power steering failed as leaving work. Starting car has been a recent issue since the starter is having problems but the power steering failing the only solution has to been to restart the car. In this case not possible since I could not get the car to restart.
The contact owns a 2009 Honda Fit. While driving approximately 65 mph, the power steering failed and the power steering warning indicator illuminated. The contact pulled the vehicle over and shut off the engine. Upon restarting, the vehicle resumed normal operation. The failure occurred intermittently. The dealer reset the power steering software, but the failure recurred. An independent mechanic stated that the power steering module needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired and the manufacturer was not notified. The approximate failure mileage was 96,000.
Power steering failed. Steering was heavy while driving.
When I sat and idled at a traffic light, the power steering failed. This happened twice. I had to work very hard to pull the car off the road. I turned off the engine, then turned it back on and the power steering came back on. I looked on line and discovered numerous people have had this problem. Honda even put a bulletin out #09-043 about this. I was not going to wait for a recall because some had written that the power steering had gone out while they were driving. I had the Honda dealershiip install a new eps unit on 9/25/13. They charged $1100. Honda should be made to make this a recall because it's extremely dangerous.

The contact owns a 2007 Honda Fit. The contact stated that while driving 35 mph, the power steering failed. The contact stated that the driver had to use more effort in order to steer the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection and they stated that the electric power steering needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 50,000.
Electric power steering failed while driving. Could barely move the steering wheel. I found out that Honda has a TSB out on this known problem (TSB # 09-043). It involves an expensive replacement of the eps module. If the vehicle is out of warranty, you're out of luck. I believe there should be a recall, as this is a very serious safety issue.
Power steering failed to engage when starting from a cold start and attempting to drive out of a parking lot. Indicator panel light came on. Turned car off, then started again and power steering engaged without incident. This same scenario occurred a few more times over the following months, however, much more frequent these last 2 months, Nov. /Dec. 2013. Has not happened while traveling on the road thankfully. Car becomes very hard to steer. Informed Honda service center 12/17/13 of problem during routine oil change, they performed diagnostic ($75) and recommended replacing the electric power steering control unit (eps) for $958. Investigated online posts and found many others have been dealing with this issue as well. Since this is a known condition by Honda (service bulletin # 09-043) and is a potential and deadly safety issue, I feel it warrants investigation and subsequent recall action.
2007 Honda sports Fit. Power steering failed a few times already without notice since I bought it last weekend. Power steering did not lock up and was just fine during test drive. A few days ago, warning sign came on. Stopped the car and restarted again a few times and warning sign went away and I was able to drive off. This is a safety issue and Honda should recall this ASAP.
Power steering fails intermittantly and can be eliminated temporarily by restarting the car. Service bulletin 09-043 delineates this problem and Honda dealers want in the vicinity of $1000 for the fix. As this is a severe safety problem, I am reporting it now.
About three weeks ago, while my wife was driving to work, shortly after leaving our home, the steering wheel became extremely rough and started to shake the car violently through a turn and the eps malfunction indicator came on. She turned the car off and back on again and the issue remedied itself and the eps light turned off. This past weekend, as I was driving the car, the same issue presented itself. This time, however, the unexpected loss of power steering caused me to veer into opposing traffic. Luckily, other drivers in the opposing lane were able to respond quickly and avert an accident. I researched this issue online, including on popular Honda-specific forums, which I am a member of, such as Honda-tech. Com and Fitfreak. Net, as well as general auto forums such as on edmunds. Com. It became apparent that this is a common issue among owners of Honda Fits, with some owners stating that this occurs 1-2 times a month. Upon further research, I found Honda technical service bulletin 09-043, stating symptoms of “the steering feels heavier than normal, a euphemism for the power steering failing—a very dangerous occurrence, which I am disappointed that Honda did not issue a full safety recall for, and which we had to find out the hard/dangerous way that this is an issue with our vehicle.
The contact owns a 2007 Honda Fit sport. The contact stated that she started the vehicle, the power steering suddenly failed. The contact tried to move the vehicle but the steering wheel would not turn. The contact turned the vehicle off and restarted it; the power steering reset itself. The manufacturer had not been notified. The failure mileage was 45,000.
The electric power steering on my Honda Fit failed to function. Fortunately, the event happened in my garage, but it was almost impossible to steer the wheels. So, I had to find other transportation to make my thanksgiving dinner. This could have been a disaster had the failure occurred on the road.
The contact owns a 2007 Honda Fit. While driving 15 mph, the power steering failed. The contact pulled over, turned off the vehicle and restarted it. The power steering reset after the restart. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer but the failure could not be duplicated. The contact called the manufacturer who stated that they could offer no assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 36,000.
Power steering failed while driving. Restarting the engine restored the power steering.
On multiple occasions electric power steering assist would fail on start up, particularly after some overnight rain. Without the steering assist this car becomes difficult and dangerous to handle. Restarting the engine has corrected this intermittent problem so far, but it poses a considerable danger, especially if the steering assist were to cut out during high speed driving.
Power steering locked up and failed. I could not turn steering wheel. I had to stop car, turn off engine and restart twice before power steering functioned again. Some one is going to get killed with this problem and a recall is in order!!!.
The electronic power steering on the car failed and the dashboard indicator light came on. There is no way to tell when it will fail, but it is a sudden and complete failure resulting in a hard to control car. Honda does have a service bulletin on this issue (TSB 90-043).
Power steering repeatedly disengages while driving causing power steering failure. This happens approximately 1 out of 25 times the vehicles is driven. When steering fails, it is nearly impossible to control the vehicle.
Electronic power steering has failed numerous times during the life of the vehicle. Failure occurred twice during driving and caused near misses of other cars. Failure mostly occurs at startup, making it difficult to impossible to drive car. It tends to occur when the temperature is closer to freezing but it has occurred in the summer. Technical service bulletin 09-043 has been discussed on several forums. This is a common problem discussed in numerous forums and is a defect in the manufacturing of the 2007 Honda Fits. A recall is requested as it posses a significant risk to human life and limb, particularly when failure occurs during driving.
Over the years I have experienced my power steering fail and is happening more often the older the car gets. What happens each and every time is within the first 5-10 minutes of driving in the morning and usually on a damp and cool day is the power steering will stop working and a indicator light will come up on my dashboard. The first time it happened I did what the manual said and pulled over, turned the car off for about a minute and restarted it. It was fine after that and only happened about twice the first year. When I told the dealership that said they have never heard of this problem before and said to do what the manual said. After telling them this happens several times a year they were never concern or checked error messages from the electrical module. I've brought this to their attention several times without any acknowledgement to the sitiuation. Since that first year it is gradually get worse. I started keeping track in a calendar when ever this occurs. One month it happened three times and two of those times were two days in a row. Luckily it's only failed on the highway once which was a very scary experience! so far within the last year this has happened nine times.
1. Power steering did not turn on when car is started and power steering fails when car is in motion. 2. Occurs approximately 1x month; the failure results in loss of control of the steering; steering becomes impossible to maneuver around corners at low speeds and very difficult to steer at speeds of 40 - 50 mph. 3. Power steering unit was replaced by the dealership.
