Electrical System Problems of Honda HR-V - part 1

About 3 hours into a 4 hour drive (while the car was only months old, with just 1800 miles), the sound switched from playing the radio at a normal volume to suddenly extraordinarily loud crackle, static, popping noises. The noise continued at this indescribably high volume for about one minute while I tried anything to help -- I tried adjusting the volume knob, unplugging my phone (which was plugged in just for directions), switching inputs, switching from fm to am, pushing the volume knob in to turn the whole thing off, etc. Nothing stopped the noise. After about 90 seconds, it stopped, but I still do not know why. After that, I could not get any sound to play. My ears rang the entire rest of the drive (another 1 hour). The noise was so loud and so sudden that it made me very upset and scared at what could have happened that luckily didn't - I could have easily been so startled to swerve into another lane, and if my 4 year old had been in the back, I am really scared to think of how traumatized he would be, how damaged his ears would be, and what else would have happened. My ears are still ringing today, a full day later.

Honda hrv 2025 malfunctioning when brake hold system is activated. Brake hold system lets individuals use the brake whenever needed without your foot having to be on the pedal the entire time. You can come to a red light, step on the pedal and take your foot off the pedal and the car will remain stopped until you press on the gas. Over the course of leasing this vehicle sometimes the brake system problem message would show but it would disappear right away. I let the dealership know of this issue when I got my first oil change but since the message wasn’t currently displayed on the dashboard they did not attend to it. Earlier this week the car suddenly glitches when brake hold is activated and deactivates itself followed by all kinds of messages on the dash. I will upload them here to see. From brake system,tpms, hill start assist all malfunction and when you turn the car off it doesn’t start back up automatically. This is a serious safety concern as the brake system malfunction and car not turning on can happen suddenly when driving causing injury to myself and those around me. A simple google search shows that this is common for this vehicle make, model and year however no recall has been filled.

While stopped at a traffic signal, the vehicle failed to restart when the light turned green. On another occasion, the vehicle stalled during operation and would not start. The engine would crank but there was no ignition. This created a safety risk because the vehicle was disabled in traffic and unable to move out of the roadway, increasing the risk of a rear-end collision or other crash. The vehicle was towed to a dealership for inspection. The dealer diagnosed a failed powertrain control module (pcm). The diagnosis indicated no spark and that the ignition coils were not receiving signal, although the crank sensor signal was present. The pcm was replaced, and the vehicle started and operated normally after replacement. No additional wiring, fuse, or grounding issues were identified. There were no prior warning lights, dashboard messages, or drivability symptoms before the failure occurred. The failure happened unexpectedly at approximately 52,889 miles. The replaced pcm is available through the servicing dealership if inspection is requested.

I have had a supplement restraint problem light on since I bought they vehicle. It was on and off intermittently for the past year or so, however now it will not go off. Upon inspection the wiring is damaged and there is not cover to the ground according to the Honda mechanic that looked at my vehicle. I have not had any service work done in the area where the srs box is located and they did not perform any further inspection on the system. Again, this was on when I bought my 2024 Honda Hr-v. The dealer was made aware and they advised me that it should be covered under warranty however nobody will fix the issue at this time. Please review and look into this issue as it has been noted in prior service bulletins for the srs system light to have issues.

On Sunday, 02/08/2026, I parked briefly to drop something off. When I tried to restart the car, it was clicking but would not start. An engine light came on, and a flashing message appeared saying “park. ” I initially thought it was a battery issue, but the warning light remained on. The next morning, the car started, but the engine was locked and the vehicle would not move forward or backward. I called the Honda dealer, and the technician advised me to tow and bring the vehicle in as soon as possible. I restarted the vehicle, and the message on the screen cleared and the vehicle was engaged. I then dropped the vehicle off at the dealership. After inspection, they told me the front passenger seat weight sensor needed to be replaced, which is very expensive ($1,300) when I researched the, Honda has already recalled their vehicles for this same issue, and I am not sure I need to pay all this money for something that is caused by an identified defect of the vehicle system. I have a 2020 Honda hrv and the gas gauge flickers on and off. I have overheard technicians say this is a common problem with the hrv. The dealer wants to charge 177 to hook it up on the computer to diagnose the hrv. This hrv has only 20,000 miles on it. It has struts that are going bad and this hrv has had all the services done. My wife drives it 2. 6 miles a day. I think these issues need to be looked into further.

In a freezing cold parking lot car would not start. Had car towed to service center. Problem was gas gauge showing almost half a tank but car was out of gas. It is a bad sending unit. This is hazardous. There were no warnings or lights notifying me of a problem with the sending unit. I drive on highways at night. Potentially running out of gas on a busy highway with no warning is hazardous. Mechanic informed me this is a common problem with Honda. Over 500 dollars for a tow and diagnosis. Will cost $2200 to repair. If parts of the fuel pump were recalled why not the sending unit?????.

I was driving to work and everything on the dashboard lit up. It actively showed that the car was changing gears while I was in traffic. I pulled over and the car reader gave me error - p0793. We have a 2018 Honda hrv with only 86,000 miles. The car became sluggish and sounded like something went wrong with the engine. There was no prior alarm or lights on dashboard before everything began blinking. There is a service bulletin for this issue by Honda - 21-047 cvt belt deterioration warranty extension. Car is currently at Honda dealership and they denied us a good will request because we were 11 months and 29 days out of warranty.

When I turned my car on, the airbag system (srs) problem light was on. I was worried if it was an airbag problem, or sensor problem, so I brought the vehicle in for inspection at two locations. The first location was an independent service center, in which I was told it was a sensor problem. They weren't available to repair or needed an appointment to thoroughly check the problem. Therefore, I made an appointment for the next day at a Honda dealership. I thought that my vehicle may have been a part of the safety recall from the service bulletin 24-036. Upon inspection and a partial diagnosis (they didn't took apart my vehicle near the wheel or touch screen/audio for the sensor underneath), I was told I had a sensor problem under the front passenger seat with the code error u3000-49. However, I was told that my vehicle was not covered under the safety recall. I'm afraid of whether my airbags will be working properly if the sensor isn't working. There was no warning lights, symptoms of problems, or messages prior to the sensor light turning on.

Vehicle experienced critical ignition system failure while parked - the engine would not turn off despite repeated attempts over 20 minutes. The vehicle has a communication failure between the ignition switch and the body control module/keyless access unit, creating a stuck electronic latch circuit (b12d3 latch error). This is consistent with Honda TSB 20-116. The keyless start system warning appeared on the dashboard. Unable to shut down the vehicle through normal means, I was forced to manually pull the fuel pump fuse from the fuse box and then disconnect the battery while the engine was still running. This created an extremely dangerous situation requiring me to work in the engine compartment with live electrical systems. The vehicle lacks proper failsafe shutdown mechanisms. This communication failure and stuck ignition circuit poses serious safety risks including fire hazard, carbon monoxide poisoning if in enclosed space, and electrical system damage. No officially stated emergency stop solutions had worked for this vehicle included the triple press and long press.

Multi purpose camera warnings. All radar lights on and won’t go off.

Odometer display issue-I’m having an issue where the odometer/trip/fuel display is dark when I start the car and then it will flicker on and off.

My vehicle suddenly developed electrical problems and would not start. Before it completely failed, I began seeing warning lights on the dashboard, including a park warning and an engine oil light. The vehicle had been operating normally earlier that day, but later became totally unresponsive. The doors would not unlock electronically and the car would not start. This happened after a period of heavy rain. When the vehicle was inspected by a Honda dealership, they found signs of long-term water intrusion and corrosion affecting electrical components and wiring. I later learned that the vehicle had previously been repaired for water intrusion through the rear hatch/tailgate area, which may have allowed moisture into the vehicle over time. The car is now inoperable. This raises safety concerns because electrical failures like this can lead to sudden loss of reliability, inability to start the vehicle when needed, or potential failure while driving. The issue has been confirmed by a dealership service department, and the vehicle remains unusable. I am concerned that water may be entering through the tailgate or rear hatch area and damaging electrical systems. I have also seen similar complaints involving water intrusion and electrical failures in this model.

Odometer and fuel gauge cluster on dashboard only working intermittently. Started in November 2025 in the cold weather the display would get blurry, then not work. Honda dealership confirmed problem but did not offer a recall or TSB. Only offered to replace that gauge cluster for $2,365. Safety concern as driver cannot know the amount of fuel left in the vehicle. If vehicle runs out of fuel, can cause crash.

The instrument cluster "flickers" due to a bad connection. This cluster contains the odometer, fuel gauge, and other vehicle information. It does not work at all when the outdoor temperature is cold. I took this to my Honda dealer and they state it was a bad connection and I would have to pay to replace the whole cluster for $1800. This is unacceptable and Honda should have to fix this as it is a known problem - this has the potential to cause an accident for someone to run out of gas in busy traffic. And not being able to see the odometer/mileage or oil life indicator is not acceptable. This has been a life of the car problem which has gotten worse and is no longer working no matter the outside temperature.

Just bought this car in a private party sale. As with other complaints posted on this site, the car has issues with its electrical system related to its dashboard and specifically the right display showing the mileage, fuel gauge, outside temperature, etc. Intermittently (and possibly related to cold weather), the entire dashboard will either flicker with unintelligible information and/or go completely black where no info will show. This will happen upon start or after driving a short bit and last several minutes. Very concerning as you will not be able to view mileage and fuel levels. My guess is this has been happening for some time. There should be a recall to fix this as from looking at your complaints and internet research, this is affecting many, many vehicles.

The dashboard light don't turn on on a cold weather day until the car is warm. The dealer charged me $215. 97 in late October but it started again. Dealer says right software cluster must be replaced now.

The fuel gauge on the right hand side malfunctions in cold/wet weather, causing information such as distance until empty, to become illegible. When this happens, the display also flickers rapidly, which may be problematic to some with epilepsy. The fuel gauge, mileage don't show until the car is warmed up. This happens on a cold weather.

On March 11, 2025 I took my car to gardena Honda for a fuel pump recall for my 2018 Honda Hr-v ex. On September 17, 2025 I had a system malfunction where the doors were locking and unlocking the dashboard went black and a car symbol with doors opened appear on the dash, the car shut off and I tried to brake but they did not work, I hit a car in front of me and when the airbags did not deploy I hit my mouth on the steering wheel and knock out 3 of 4 teeth that I had work done on. A scan tool was put on my vehicle when I got it home and there was two codes showing b00d5 occupant classification sensor fault and u0416 invalid data received from vehicle dynamic control module. I came to this website because I wanted to know was there any other recalls and found out there was 3 on the make model and year of my vehicle. # 135 vehicle brake system, low pressure fuel pump, and the fuel pump inside the fuel tank.

On September 17. 2025 I was at a red light on normandie avenue and exposition blvd the light turned green and as I was entering the intersection going southbound my doors on the vehicle started locking and un locking, my dashboard went black and the car shut off, the braking system malfunction, the airbag did not deploy, my knees hit the bottom part of the dashboard and my mouth hit the steering wheel knocking out several teeth. The dashboard only had an airbag code, a brake code and a vehicle with the doors opened on the screen. I had the car towed to my home and informed my insurance company of the incident, they referred me to a body shop who held my vehicle for 5 months after doing the body work, they labeled my vehicle unsafe to drive because the codes are still on the vehicle, not knowing that this body shop doesn't do electrical work. I reached out to Honda several times because they were the last ones to work on my vehicle for the fuel pump recall, but they noted vsa\abs for the last couple of weeks I finally talked with service manager marvin cabrera and he directed me to american Honda motors and after reaching out to them since the 3rd of February, they keep telling me about appointing an investigation inspection with the fts (field technical specialist) and I have not received any updates about my vehicle. These are the codes that came up while using the scan tool u0416 invalid data received from vehicle dynamics control module, b00d5 occupant classification system sensor fault, b0090 left frontal restraints sensor incorrect component installed.

Ac system failed. Ac will not turn on, changed all fuses related to ac related issues, still wont blow at all. Maybe blower motor or resistor which should not be broken after just 1 year.

Vehicle lost power 3 times within a 3 month period, with inability to go above 40 mph on the freeway. Dates of loss of power are: 8/31/25, 9/14/25, 11/16/25 safety is of grave concern due to loss of power and inability to drive over 40mph on freeway. Took into (2) dealerships three times and they were unable to diagnose issue. The vehicle has been inspected 3 times. This vehicle should be added to the recall listing as this is the same engine issue with losing power. There were no warning lamps, messages or other symptoms prior to the failures.

My car loosing power the screen is black there is nothing showing on the dashboard this has been happening since August 2025 the SUV accelerate while I am driving or braking even when all of the lane changing and braking systems are turn off this happens often whenever I am driving the vehicle. It feels like someone else is in control of my car.

The odometer displays keeps lagging and the display goes out. This is a common problem with this vehicle. It should be addressed because the vehicle isn’t running at is fullest potential.

While driving the car to work the instrument cluster lcd display began to glitch showing garbled information on the fuel as well as effecting the speedometer reading. Having inaccurate speedometer reading due to a faulty instrument cluster can put others at risk due to not knowing your exact speed. There were no indications of a problem prior to this incident. Upon discussion with several hrv owners and forums this issue is likely caused by cracked solder joints on the board for the instrument cluster. The leadfree solder used appears to fail causing connection issues for the pins on the board and erratic read outs and displays. I plan to have the dealer look at the vehicle shortly. This problem is known and reported prolifically on discussion boards. Honda has released several service notices internally related to this issue for crvs and civics, but no recalls and not for hrvs.

The contact owns a 2026 Honda Hr-v. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the infotainment system failed to function as intended. The contact stated that the connectivity for the hands-free system failed to display the text message. The siri system sound was inconsistent. The vehicle was taken to the dealer; however, no cause for the failure was found. Upon further investigation, the dealer concluded that the infotainment system failed to operate properly as designed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and filed a claim. The failure mileage was approximately 200.

I am writing to report a serious safety concern involving my vehicle. The car has exhibited repeated instances of unintended activation while parked and left untouched. Specifically, the entire electrical system—including the dashboard, infotainment, and other electronic components—powers on and off spontaneously without any user interaction. This behavior raises significant safety and reliability concerns, especially when the vehicle is unattended. I am requested for a thorough investigation into this issue to determine the root cause and to ensure that appropriate corrective measures are taken to prevent potential hazards. Honda service center identified the issue is caused by 'body control module'. They even indicated that the fault is in the software and the unit and user has nothing to do with it and asked me to check with Honda company. When I asked the company they said no recalls for this VIN and asked me to file a complaint here. My car has driven only 36k miles and its like a brand new car still. This is not even my fault and its a big safety issue. I ended up paying $1400 for the whole thing since I am in need of a car right now for all the doctor appointments and I didn't even got a rental car while the repair is going on which is like 4 days. This costed me so much money and headache. Also I have seen the same issue reported online by many folks using Honda at that year. Please take the ticket forward as this is a major safety issue. Please help in recall and reimburse my money.

The hands-free apple carplay system is not working properly in 2026 Honda Hr-v cars. Numerous posts from fellow owners on forums with the same issue. Using the phone with hands will certainly increase incident risk.

While parking my car and going under 20 mph, my car suddenly accelerated. My foot was not on the brake or the accelerator when this occurred. I was forced to slam my brake to prevent myself from hitting the curb in front of me . This has happened twice, both in the process of turning to park and going under 20 mph. My cruise control was not on at the time. I have taken my car to Honda to investigate and they were unable to replicate the issue.

On the driver's dashboard, the right side gauge of the dash blinks out and shows unreadable letters/characters. This makes it impossible to rear this gauge and see how much fuel is remaining in the car.

Panel flickered on the side where it tells you your milage to empty and how much gas you have in the car yesterday. This morning it was completely blank on that side of panel. My mechanic sade that it was something electrical but not the fuses. And he doesn't have the equipment to tell if it's an software update issue or not.
