My car’s warning lights came on and it had a hard time staying in gear. The engine was making a screeching sound and it stuttered when I drove it. I took it to my local mechanic and they found metal shavings and chunks in the transmission. They said they had seen this problem before. I called Honda and they requested I take it to Honda service station to do an additional assessment. Service center said the same thing- it was a faulty design in this make and model and the transmission belt was being ground down causing the metal chunks to cause damage. Honda is refusing to stand by their product and cover the cost of the repair.

On [xxx], the vehicle unexpectedly shut down while I was driving. After having the car towed to Honda of fort myers for inspection, I was informed that the ground wire had been tampered with—something typically associated with prior accident damage. This is deeply concerning as I was not made aware of any such damage or tampering at the time of purchase. Additionally, I was charged $738 to retrieve my vehicle from Honda of fort myers. Despite multiple attempts to contact your customer care department, including a call where I was placed on hold for over 30 minutes, I have yet to receive any meaningful assistance or follow-up. I have also filed a complaint with the better business bureau, to which I received a response from jp directing me to a carfax report that does not address the actual issue at hand. For your reference, the vehicle has only had one oil change since purchase, which was performed through kia of cape coral. I am requesting immediate attention to this matter and a resolution to hold the dealership accountable for selling a vehicle with undisclosed damage or tampering. Thank you. I am writing to formally file a complaint regarding a serious safety issue affecting Honda vehicles — specifically the widespread failure of the anti-lock braking system (abs) module — and Honda's failure to issue a recall despite extensive evidence and customer reports. A recent youtube video titled "why Honda hasn’t recalled this dangerous problem" [xxx] ) highlights that many Honda owners are experiencing identical issues: abs warning lights appearing on the dashboard, inconsistent braking behavior, and in some cases, total brake failure. This is a major safety hazard, especially in emergency braking scenarios or on wet or slippery roads. I personally experienced this issue with my own Honda vehicle. After taking it to a Honda dealership, I was quoted $3,000 to replace the defective abs module — a steep and unfair out-of-pocket expense for what clearly appears to be a design or manufacturing defect. The dealership acknowledged that this is a common problem, yet I was told there is no recall, leaving me with the financial burden and a compromised vehicle. From numerous reports, it's evident that this issue spans across different Honda models and production years. Yet, Honda continues to ignore the risk, even though a faulty abs system directly compromises vehicle control and passenger safety. I respectfully urge the NHTSA to conduct a formal investigation into these abs module failures and compel Honda to issue a recall and reimburse affected owners. Allowing these vehicles to remain on the road in unsafe condition poses a danger not only to Honda drivers but to everyone sharing the road with them. I was driving to work when suddenly my car lost motor function and just stopped, despite me pushing the gas pedal. This has happened to me at least 4 times now since owning the car for less than two years. I have almost been rear-ended each time. This time, however, my car did not want to start back up again. It flashed the battery and oil light on my dash and proceeded to tell me to hit the brake and push button to start (even though it was running), so I turned the vehicle off and attempted to start it again like I have in the past when encountering this issue. When I went to re-start the car, it sputtered and wouldn't start until I waited and tried again. I am very concerned, as I have a dog that I have in the backseat and if I get rear-ended, I will sue if there are injuries. I want a call about this immediately, as it is often pushed aside and I am fed up.

An electrical issue with the right-hand side gauge cluster. This contains the fuel gauge, odometer, trip meter, temperature, & clock. Parts of the instrument cluster functions intermittently or shows scrambled, incorrect information. More recently it has turned completely off all together. This defect has created situations where I was unaware that the vehicle was about to run out of fuel. Also created situations where I couldn't track my mileage on long car trips to monitor my fuel.

The contact owns a 2022 Honda Hr-v. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the vehicle lost motive power. The contact waited before restarting the vehicle and continued driving. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to restart immediately, and several attempts were needed to restart the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed the vehicle and determined that the battery had failed. The battery was replaced; however, the failure persisted. The vehicle failed to start when the vehicle was parked. The vehicle was taken to a certified mechanic, who was unable to diagnose the cause of the failure. The vehicle was taken to a mechanic and the dealer four times; however, the failure became persistent, and the vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure and opened a case. The manufacturer referred the contact to the NHTSA hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 55,200.

The lcd display which indicates fuel levels and such is made by a bad connection and will short out in all Honda 2021 hrv models that experience cold weather. This was told to me by a mechanic at a Honda dealership in colorado springs. This screen going out would cause you to not know where your gas levels sit causing issues and potential safety concerns.

The information display panel on the instrument cluster goes blank or gibberish when it is cooler outside. The car does this when it is cold. After the car warms up it gets better. This looks to be a common problem.

The instrument cluster, specifically the odometer, fuel gauge, etc. (right side) rarely lights up to show how much fuel is in the tank, oil life, or mileage, potentially leaving you stranded or running out of gas while driving. Dealership has confirmed and said it would be $1,500+ to replace the entire cluster.

4/22/2025, my Honda hrv 2017 is parked and locked. The front/rear head lights will come on after the car is locked for 45 second and around 5 seconds after the lights came on it will sound off the alarm. The next day I took it to Honda to do diagnostic and they told me is the body control module(bcm) issue. It will cause $1,350 +tax to replace it. It is pricey but it seems odds an eight years old car barely 45k miles with good taken care that a module so easy to went bad. Also all services(transmission oil, synthetic oil change, brake fluid, etc. . . ) are done at the dealership nothing being done outside. I also found online there are some amount people complain about the same issue and same model year/model. One with the highest quote of $1,800+ to replace the bcm. I don't see any recall on this 2017 Honda hrv related to the bcm. But there is a related to bcm for 2018-2020 accord, accord hybrid, & insight. The year of recall very close and there are some amount people complains about the bcm for Honda hrv 2017. Could have they used the similar bcm for hrv then follow through to the later year that for Honda accord/insight and got the recall? could the hrv model be in the recall as well? it is just vert odd a good taken care car with low miles that the module so easy went out.

The entire odometer and fuel display on the right flickers with random characters and goes dark for long periods of time. Not knowing how much fuel seems to be a problem? took it to the dealer and they indicated this is a common problem but have no remedies.

I have been experiencing an issue with my car alarm activating unexpectedly when I park. I took it to the dealership for assistance, and they informed me that the car is unable to recognize my key. They recommended reprogramming it to resolve the issue. With an estimate of $ 1167. 88.

Front window- the front window malfunctioned and will all of a sudden go up and down several times. I am making a report with the dealership but, this is a huge risk since someone can unknowly get themselves stuck. Doors & trunk lock- the doors and trunk will lock without being prompted to. I have a child that has been unable to get out of the vehicle. The trunk gets stuck as well and will not open. Even after shutting and restarting the vehicle. This will also be reported to the dealership.

I bought this car new in 2019. It was never in an accident. While driving normally, the car started throwing warnings saying the lane keep assist has a problem, the collision mitigatuon system hhas a peoblem, the auto high beams have a problem, the road departure system has a problem. I paid Honda in surprise az $210 for a diagnosis and they told me that it needs a new u3000-49 multipurpose camera unit will cost $1,730 to replace and install and possibky another $1,420 for a new srs unit. The car was never in an accident, and both of these should not be breaking after just 5 years of ownership. Clearly the multipurpose camera unit and also likely the srs are defective and should be recalled.

My digital cluster that displays how many miles my vehicle has, how many miles I have until I am out of gas and how much gas I have does not display correctly. From my own research this is due to the solder used during manufacturing being lead free. Because it is lead free it cracks in cold weather and causes a poor connection causing the display to be unreadable. I have read online and thousands of people are having the exact same issue. This is not a normal wear and tear issue and rather a manufacture defect that Honda is aware of.

Dashboard where the fuel level is black and when it flickers on it show up as gibberish. Secondly, my infotainment system randomly has been rebooting while driving. When this happens my power steering seems to go out as well. I have others have been having the same issues.

The odometer/trip/fuel display is dark when I start the car and then it will flicker on and off with gibberish. The dealership is charging more than $2,000 to "possible have it fixed. " this issue has been ongoing for some time now, and I’ve noticed that I am not alone in experiencing it. Based on my research, it appears this problem has been present across a variety of Honda vehicle types for over 8 years. Despite this, it seems there has been no resolution provided to customers, which I find concerning. Accurate fuel readings are essential for safe vehicle operation, particularly in situations where a driver needs to monitor fuel levels and plan refueling stops. The absence of this information compromises the driver’s ability to make informed decisions, which could be a safety hazard, especially on long trips or when driving in remote areas. Given the widespread nature of this issue and its potential safety implications, I strongly believe this problem warrants a recall or at least a full-scale fix for all affected vehicles.

Me and my grandkids had a scary experience sitting in my 2023 Honda hrv in parking lot with the vehicle off. The back window exploded around the perimeter. The window started making a crackling sound then completely shattered. I have owned the vehicle for just about a year. I took the car to the dealership in regards to this issue and spoke with a manager who approved repairing the window and having an electrical inspection. He advised the window would be ordered and to check back in a few days for repair and inspection. When I reached back out to the dealership I was advised by a tech that the rear glass had not been ordered. The rear glass has now been ordered, however, now I'm being told that the glass is on backorder with 149 orders before me. When I asked tech how long it would take to get repaired he didn't have an answer and told me to check every week. In the mean time I asked if the inspection can be done; I'm still pending getting an appointment for the electrical inspection.

The odometer display/gas gauge goes blank for long periods of time while driving. When I took it to the dealer, they said, “OH yes that is an hrv thing,” so they have seen this before clearly. It is a safety concern to not be able to see the odometer and gas gauge to know when fuel needs to be replaced in the vehicle.

Odometer has been glitching due to freezing temps. Mileage seems to still be tallying but yesterday in temp of 10 degrees f, meter was glitching badly. Seems to be fine when warmed up but even button on dash to see trips becomes difficult to push. Sometimes turning car on the odometer is blank and will turn off the car and back on again to have it pull back up. Gas gauge and light still function even with glitching. Have read that other makes are having this issue as well.

On [xxx] while driving on [xxx] , the driver’s airbag in my 2022 Honda Hr-v suddenly deployed without any impact or collision. This created a major safety hazard, obstructing vision and forcing the driver to pull over immediately. The seat belt tensioner also engaged, restricting movement. There were no warning lights, no forward collision warnings, and no external factors that could have caused deployment. A diagnostic inspection at larry hopkins Honda (sunnyvale, CA) confirmed that the vehicle’s supplemental restraint system (srs) recorded no impact prior to deployment. This exact issue aligns with Honda’s safety recall 24-036 (seat weight sensor defect) for the 2020-2022 Hr-v, yet my vehicle's VIN is not included in the recall. Despite multiple attempts to escalate with Honda corporate and the dealership, Honda has refused to acknowledge this as a defect or cover the repair. This is a critical safety failure that could have caused a serious accident or injury. I request NHTSA to investigate this issue, as other 2022 Hr-vs may also be at risk for random airbag deployment. After filling up the gas tank, the next morning when started the electric parking brake and check engine warning lights appeared with flashing red parking light on. Everything seemed to be working fine. The parking brake worked, and engine was fine. After internet research I narrowed it down to either a battery (3-years old), or a bad tank of gas, I checked the gas cap, ok. I hooked up my obe engine monitor and it coded p2de1, with its 5 potential issues. The internet has many complaints and issues about this dating back to 2016. People have replaced fuel injectors, O2 sensors, etc. , costing a lot of money on unnecessary repairs. I replaced the battery, and all the dashboard lights went out. The oem battery lasts about 3-years. Apparently, if the voltage drops below what is needed numerous warning lights come on. It is unsafe. Mandatory software upgrade for pcm u0155, or other safety recall to rectify?.

Dash lighting up and draining battery and not able to start also alarm going off by itself draining battery.

My daughters 2016 Honda hrv (59k) has continual electrical issues. First it's the battery sensor $617. Then the keyless access control module $1100 but given a discount. Something is also wrong with the heated seat it burned a hole in the seat. Honda says it's 10 years old it's gonna start falling apart. Numerous complaints online with all of the electrical issues mentioned and the service manager says Honda doesn't have to issue recalls until there's class action lawsuit filed for vehicles. All of this stuff has happened in the last 8 months.

On Thursday last week, I went out to my car that I have parked in the garage the day before I had no issues with the vehicle drove it all day, but on Thursday, I left home to go out to make some errands hopped in my car and I tried to start it. First car wouldn’t turn on, so I thought maybe I should turn off headlights and interior lights. Then I waited a few minutes and thought maybe the cold temperatures was messing with the car. So I just walked away from the car and I got a battery slow drip thinking that the battery might be dead but battery said it had a full charge at 100% charge. So I tried my battery tester battery said battery was about 100% fully charged. So I waited until my friends got home so they could witness that I wasn’t crazy. The only thing the car did after trying to start again was make a clicking sound for about three minutes then the dash lit up like a christmas tree. Every light came on every hazard that was built into the car was on saying that it needs a dealer to be checked or fixed so I called my local Honda dealership and they said that I should call roadside assistance because the car wouldn’t start. So before I could call roadside, I tried to jumpstart the car and nothing happened. So I went back in the house and about a two minutes later, the car crank and started itself, and it stayed on, but when I tried to turn it off, it told me that it could not be turned off due to some reason, I can’t remember from what it said on Thursday. So Thursday afternoon, I drove it up to our local Honda dealership and on the way up there the car shut off twice on the highway in motion which scared the mess out of me because I thought I was going to have an accident then about a mile from the dealership, the dashboard went black and so did the touchscreen, but then it came back on. But long story short local dealership said there’s nothing they can do to duplicate the issue in the car would not be fixed so I’m concerned that something else might happen.

I am not sure what part of the system is failing. While driving on the high the car just stopped no warning just stopped it went from 55- 60 miles an hour on 287 all the way to 20 and then stopped. This was all random. Then it was taken to a independent service who ran the codes and none of them stayed so I drove the car again and all that happened before happened once again. The independent service told me its the transmission and they are not sure why its happening he noted that these Hondas have transmission issue.

I’m writing to express my concern regarding a recurring issue with the instrument cluster on my 2019 Honda Hr-v. Specifically, the far-right section of the cluster — which includes the odometer and fuel gauge — frequently flickers or fails to display entirely. This makes it extremely difficult to monitor fuel levels or mileage, and I’m particularly concerned that the odometer may not be accurately recording the vehicle’s true mileage. After researching this issue, I’ve found that this is a well-documented problem among Hr-v owners, with many attributing the failure to cracked solder joints on the instrument cluster circuit board. These cracks are believed to result from thermal expansion and contraction, exacerbated by the use of lead-free solder, which is more brittle than traditional alternatives. Given that this issue stems from a design and manufacturing decision — not from any misuse or neglect on my part — I feel strongly that this should be addressed as a manufacturer defect.

Gauge which indicates fuel and other information goes totally blank. When driving, no idea when fuel will run out. Initially, gauge would flicker, now it goes blank. Started about 2 years ago.

While driving on the highway my power steering went out making it extremely hard to control the vehicle. As soon as I left the highway several indicator lights came on saying power steering not working, stop driving and call dealer. Also, accident avoidance not working, lane departure not working, etc. Called Honda roadside assistance and had the vehicle towed to a dealer. This was at 6:00pm on a Saturday (Nov 16). Vehicle was inspected on Monday Nov 18 and everything was working fine. The vehicle history showed a drop in battery voltage which Honda believes caused the warnings to go off. I'm concerned that I had no power steering which could have resulted in an accident.

I have had several issues happen where the battery will drain quickly if the doors are open for 40 minutes. One time recently happened last week when I was trying to take my wife to the hospital for a back pain issue. I tried to get her into the vehicle but the pain was too great so we called the paramedics to come and take her instead. Once they arrived and removed her from the vehicle, I went to start the vehicle and it wouldn't start. You could hear a repetitive fast clicking from the dash and a pulsing of the dash lights but no attempt of the engine to start.

The contact owns a 2024 Honda Hr-v. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to start upon numerous attempts to start the vehicle. The contact initially called the dealer who informed her that they would be unable to service the vehicle due to the dealer closing at the time of the call. The contact then called an independent mechanic who was able to come to the contact's home and jumpstart the vehicle. The contact was instructed to take the vehicle to a dealer as soon as possible for a diagnostic. The vehicle was taken to the dealer the next day where they topped of the vehicle's fluids and rotated the vehicle's tires; however, they were unable to diagnose the failure. The contact stated that the battery failure had occurred multiple times since the initial failure. Each time, the contact has had to call for assistance to jumpstart the vehicle. The contact then received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 24v744000 (steering) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was 6,237. The contact did not attempt to file a complaint online.

It has been 6 times that we have needed to jump start the car. The time that I start it before it actually needs a jump you notice the screen and ac take a minute or two to turn on after you have already turned on the car. Today it started fine and the second time it needed a jump start. I contacted aaa the first time it happened, they checked the battery at the dealer and everything looked great on the dealers end. They mentioned to record any mishaps. My friend who has a 2023 Honda h-RV sport has reported that she is experiencing similar problems where her car also needs a jump start. I now carry a portable jumper by how often this issue has been occurring.

Odometer flickers on and off and at times does not even turn on when car is started and moving. When the odometer flicks on it does not register mileage or fuel levels. This is a major safety issue don’t being able to see this vital information.

Electrical component that controls that stereo and dashboard are going out, almost $2000 to replace this. It controls what indicates the quantity of gas and any safety related information, such as the check engine light, to me as the driver. Without this, I could put people at risk by completely losing gas, since I can’t even track my milage either, as well as possibly causing a safety risk to myself and my family if the car has any safety issues going on, as I wouldn’t know until I took it to the shop.
