Service Brakes Problems of Honda HR-V - part 1

Honda hrv 2025 malfunctioning when brake hold system is activated. Brake hold system lets individuals use the brake whenever needed without your foot having to be on the pedal the entire time. You can come to a red light, step on the pedal and take your foot off the pedal and the car will remain stopped until you press on the gas. Over the course of leasing this vehicle sometimes the brake system problem message would show but it would disappear right away. I let the dealership know of this issue when I got my first oil change but since the message wasn’t currently displayed on the dashboard they did not attend to it. Earlier this week the car suddenly glitches when brake hold is activated and deactivates itself followed by all kinds of messages on the dash. I will upload them here to see. From brake system,tpms, hill start assist all malfunction and when you turn the car off it doesn’t start back up automatically. This is a serious safety concern as the brake system malfunction and car not turning on can happen suddenly when driving causing injury to myself and those around me. A simple google search shows that this is common for this vehicle make, model and year however no recall has been filled.

I was going up a steep narrow road, a big truck was coming down so I stopped and honked so he would back up. When he did, I was unable to move my SUV. It frooze entirely, wouldnt go up, wouldnt go in reverse, just stayed on but would not move. After several attempts I was able to go back a little and move to a side and then I was able to drive up the road. This was the 2nd time this has happened so I asked the service shop at the dealer to check in driving the same road. The situation did not replicate, therefore they say theres nothing they can do or check, although I have read that this vehicle has been know to do this, but they did not even look at the printed evidence I took to them. . There were suggestions on what had to be checked but the manager refused to even read the information. The mechanic suggested I step on the gas up to the end, although the manual says you should hit gas slowly when stoping on a hill. Either way I tried both ways. . . . It still freezes.

The contact owns a 2016 Honda Hr-v. The contact stated that while stopped, the abs, brake, traction control, and several other warning lights flashed on the instrument panel. The contact called the dealer and was informed that the vehicle was safe to drive to the residence, but not for regular daily use. Once the contact was at the residence, the contact repeatedly restarted the vehicle after the warning lights turned off; however, the warning light returned after additional restarts. Due to the failure, the vehicle was towed to the dealer, where the mechanic discovered dtc: 3211, which was related to the abs solenoid valve malfunction. The contact was informed that the failure did not need immediate service, and the vehicle could be driven for short-range trips; the vehicle was reset, and the warning lights were cleared. The contact stated that upon driving to the residence, the warning lights flashed on the instrument panel. The vehicle was driven back to the dealer where a reset was attempted but failed. The contact was informed that the solenoid valve needed to be replaced; however, the part for the repair was on backorder. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 195,000.

2019 Honda hrv with 14,539 miles has been showing on the instrumentation brake failure; this warning only lasts 1/2 to 1 second with a chirp warning . Took to vehicle Honda dealership twice under warranty and could not be replicated. August 2025 took the vehicle to a local repair garage; replaced the two rear caliber motors and the electric power parking brake after the local garage conducted research on this problem on the internet. All replaced equipment are oem equipment manufactured by Honda motors. Solve the brake failure warning for 6 months before the brake failure warning appears on the instrumentation counsel.

The contact owns a 2024 Honda Hr-v. The contact stated that while the contact's daughter was driving at 42 mph with the cruise control engaged, the collision mitigation sensor independently activated. The contact's daughter noticed that the steering wheel had almost seized, and the vehicle's speed abruptly decreased. The vehicle stopped in the middle of the road. Another vehicle was making a turn and crashed into the contact's vehicle. In addition, the "brake" message was illuminated. The vehicle was driven to the contact's residence. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The contact mentioned that the failure was a known failure with the vehicle. The contact's daughter was taken to the local medical center. The contact's daughter sustained muscle pain in the back, neck, both shoulders, both jaws, and severe headaches. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 61,000.

While driving on highway under 40mph, the brakes and steering wheel locked simultaneously. I was unable to control the car—pressing the foot brake and emergency brake did not stop the car and I could not steer as the wheel was locked. I ended up on the side of the road alongside a wall of snow. The dashboard was lighting up throughout this time with rotating emergency messaging—tpms, transmission, brake system, flat tire, etc. There were no warning messages displayed and complete control of the car was taken away without warning. It was 530am so I was lucky there was no one else on the road or else this could have led to a fatal accident. The car was towed to the dealer and they said it was an electronic brake booster that went bad, but are unsure if this caused both the brake and steering failure. The dealer has not been transparent or helpful. They initially said there was nothing wrong with the car and that it was safe to drive. I reported it to Honda corporate and they have not gotten back—triaged as level 1 incident due to severity.

12/7/2025 at about 7:20pm and about 17518 miles: grandparent were driving home and brakes failed as grandpa was parking in the driveway. He said after applying the brakes the car keep rolling forward and hit the garage door then rolled backwards, brake did not stop backward movement for over a minute. No injuries. Inspection from insurance and collisions repair center found no cause for brake failure. 01/4/2026 at about 8:16pm and approximately 18122 miles: as my mom was approaching a main road with 55 mph traffic to turn left the brakes failed to bring the car to a complete stop at the intersection causing the car to roll into on coming traffic. She said when she applied the brakes they seem to engage at the start and slowed the vehicle a little bit but did not seem to apply “full braking” to actually stop the car. Oncoming traffic did manage to swerve around car as mom maneuvered it into the middle lane, while it continued to coast down the road for a short distance the brakes failed did come back enough to drive home. Will be sending to Honda deal for though inspection.

The car after a while drives sluggish & brakes very badly even after replacing the brake pads & the roater. I have replacement everything that could affect any of these issues.

Driving at night on rural interstate with clear weather. Car driving at ~75 mph when the emergency breaking engaged. There was no traffic in front and thankfully none behind. The brakes locked in and the transmission downshifted to stop. Again nothing in front. If someone would had been behind me, they could not have stopped time with combination of braking and downshifting. Approximately 2 hours latter, this emergency braking system locked again for no apparent reason. The car has <10k miles and again the weather was clear with no rain, fog, etc. , pavement dry and no wind. There was limited traffic and no obvious bright street lighting to interfer.

Metal shards from the belt are breaking off into the fluid and damaging the transmission. This led to issues with the dashboard and issues with the braking system as well.

On March 11, 2025 I took my car to gardena Honda for a fuel pump recall for my 2018 Honda Hr-v ex. On September 17, 2025 I had a system malfunction where the doors were locking and unlocking the dashboard went black and a car symbol with doors opened appear on the dash, the car shut off and I tried to brake but they did not work, I hit a car in front of me and when the airbags did not deploy I hit my mouth on the steering wheel and knock out 3 of 4 teeth that I had work done on. A scan tool was put on my vehicle when I got it home and there was two codes showing b00d5 occupant classification sensor fault and u0416 invalid data received from vehicle dynamic control module. I came to this website because I wanted to know was there any other recalls and found out there was 3 on the make model and year of my vehicle. # 135 vehicle brake system, low pressure fuel pump, and the fuel pump inside the fuel tank.

On September 17. 2025 I was at a red light on normandie avenue and exposition blvd the light turned green and as I was entering the intersection going southbound my doors on the vehicle started locking and un locking, my dashboard went black and the car shut off, the braking system malfunction, the airbag did not deploy, my knees hit the bottom part of the dashboard and my mouth hit the steering wheel knocking out several teeth. The dashboard only had an airbag code, a brake code and a vehicle with the doors opened on the screen. I had the car towed to my home and informed my insurance company of the incident, they referred me to a body shop who held my vehicle for 5 months after doing the body work, they labeled my vehicle unsafe to drive because the codes are still on the vehicle, not knowing that this body shop doesn't do electrical work. I reached out to Honda several times because they were the last ones to work on my vehicle for the fuel pump recall, but they noted vsa\abs for the last couple of weeks I finally talked with service manager marvin cabrera and he directed me to american Honda motors and after reaching out to them since the 3rd of February, they keep telling me about appointing an investigation inspection with the fts (field technical specialist) and I have not received any updates about my vehicle. These are the codes that came up while using the scan tool u0416 invalid data received from vehicle dynamics control module, b00d5 occupant classification system sensor fault, b0090 left frontal restraints sensor incorrect component installed.

I was driving normally, and a car was coming up to a stop sign from my right side on a completely different road and the car jerked and the brakes automatically applied to the car and the dash blinked “brake” for a brief moment. I’ve had the car for awhile and it has never done anything like that. Some days the blind spot doesn’t work either, when I know there is a car next to me the light on the mirrors and the beeping does not activate.

On several occasions the automatic brights have turned on when there were cars at crossroads, and when cars were within sight. The regular lights of the car are repeatedly interfering with visibility of other drivers, as the lights are much too bright and angled right in other driver's eyes. We avoid driving at night due to blinding other vehicles and preventing crashes. We are flashed constantly. The automatic braking has turned on when there were no objects, pedestrians, or cars in front of the vehicle - nearly causing us to get rear-ended by the vehicle behind us. The brakes because sticky after only 16 months of use. The steering is sticky as well.

While parking my car and going under 20 mph, my car suddenly accelerated. My foot was not on the brake or the accelerator when this occurred. I was forced to slam my brake to prevent myself from hitting the curb in front of me . This has happened twice, both in the process of turning to park and going under 20 mph. My cruise control was not on at the time. I have taken my car to Honda to investigate and they were unable to replicate the issue.

The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle jerked, and the vehicle failed to accelerate as intended while depressing the accelerator pedal. I am writing to formally file a complaint regarding a serious safety issue affecting Honda vehicles — specifically the widespread failure of the anti-lock braking system (abs) module — and Honda's failure to issue a recall despite extensive evidence and customer reports. A recent youtube video titled "why Honda hasn’t recalled this dangerous problem" [xxx] ) highlights that many Honda owners are experiencing identical issues: abs warning lights appearing on the dashboard, inconsistent braking behavior, and in some cases, total brake failure. This is a major safety hazard, especially in emergency braking scenarios or on wet or slippery roads. I personally experienced this issue with my own Honda vehicle. After taking it to a Honda dealership, I was quoted $3,000 to replace the defective abs module — a steep and unfair out-of-pocket expense for what clearly appears to be a design or manufacturing defect. The dealership acknowledged that this is a common problem, yet I was told there is no recall, leaving me with the financial burden and a compromised vehicle. From numerous reports, it's evident that this issue spans across different Honda models and production years. Yet, Honda continues to ignore the risk, even though a faulty abs system directly compromises vehicle control and passenger safety. I respectfully urge the NHTSA to conduct a formal investigation into these abs module failures and compel Honda to issue a recall and reimburse affected owners. Allowing these vehicles to remain on the road in unsafe condition poses a danger not only to Honda drivers but to everyone sharing the road with them. I press down on the gas pedal and it seems to not go. I have the transmission light, the parking light and brake lights on the dashboard.

I have brought the vehicle into the dealership multiple times due to dangerous behavior involving the Honda sensing system. The vehicle has attempted to steer out of lanes, and shown repeated safety warnings related to the collision mitigation braking system (cmbs), lane departure warning (ldw), and road departure mitigation (rdm). Despite these serious issues, the dealership repeatedly tells me that “no codes were found” and refuses to provide full diagnostic records or confirmation that proper factory scan tools (hds/I-hds) were used. I suspect they may be clearing codes or failing to document the issues appropriately. The problem is intermittent but dangerous, and I am very concerned it may lead to a crash or serious injury. Honda has not resolved this, and I believe this is a widespread safety defect that deserves further investigation. Most recently, while driving on the highway, the vehicle suddenly applied the brakes without any obstacle or warning, creating a highly dangerous situation. This incident was alarming and could have resulted in a serious accident. ??since that event, the vehicle has continued, from time to time, to display warning messages related to the collision mitigation braking system (cmbs) and road departure mitigation (rdm). These alerts occur sporadically and do not appear to be triggered by any identifiable driving condition. The dealership does not want to look at the car again for this problem and is trying to tell me I have to deal with Honda directly who is not escalating the issue even after multiple request as I fear for my safety and that of anyone in the vicinity of the vehicle.

The multipurpose camera that controls all advanced driver assistance fuctions malfunctions causing these systems to intermittenently not work properly or at all. It has caused the vehicle to fail to brake, and brake on its own without cause. Upon doing my own research I found numerous reports online of other owners of this make/model having the same issue. The problem first occured when my vehicle reached about 50,000 miles. It has been ongoing since. It caused damage to my vehicle when the automatic collision assist failed to brake for a vehicle that stopped abruptly in front of me. The alerts that these systems are not working do not always show up when the vehicle starts. Sometimes they stop working in the middle of the route. I have been in correspondence with the dealership who informed me the cost to fix this issue is $1968 (this does not include the $150 diagnostic fee while the vehicle was being serviced for a recall related to the fuel pump - I already paid to the dealer that fee and for which I've attached my receipt. ) there is clearly some issue with the part that was installed by the manufacturer. It makes the vehicle unsafe to drive not knowing if these systems will fail or malfunction at any given moment. I do not feel as the customer this should be my responsibility to have repaired, as many others report the same issue with this part. There is clearly a widespread issue that needs to be addressed in a recall in order to replace the faulty part.

The contact owned a 2023 Honda Hr-v. The contact stated while driving at approximately 45 mph and decreasing in speed to exit the highway, a vehicle in front stopped abruptly. The contact depressed the brake pedal with force, however, the brake pedal was soft and traveled to the floorboard. The contact stated she turned the steering wheel in the left direction but was difficult to turn and crashed into a vehicle's driver's side rear bumper and quarter panel. The contact stated that she was able to stop and turn the vehicle off. The contact stated the passenger front side bumper, the grill, and part of the passenger side quarter panel had been crushed by the crash. The air bags did not deploy. A police report was not filed. No injuries were reported. The contact stated that she drove the vehicle off of the highway, but had to stop due to multiple warnings illuminated on the instrument cluster including a "do not drive" warning. The vehicle was towed to a collision center. The insurance provider declared the vehicle a total loss. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 13,000.

I’ve been to the Honda dealership twice. My passenger brake light is flickering and I’ve noticed other Honda vehicles on the road with the same passenger brake light out. I’ve googled and many people are having the same problem. Honda can’t seem to fix the problem because they don’t have staff. They complain. The appointment line is over booking them. I have recently been pulled over and it is a safety hazard.

This is the second recall for this hrv sport. First was a seatbelt issue which was fixed then, now the gearbox issue has a recall and no fix. There is also an issue with my brake pedal which Honda checked and said "there is nothing to do". Also, my window keeps going up and down its sensor issue only to hear "we looked at it". I have a $550 monthly payment for a car that is dangerous for me and everyone else on the road. I want to return this car as I am totally turned off by the response of Honda. What can I do?.

While driving the cbms was activated and my car came to a complete stop even though no cars were in front of me. It stopped my car in an intersection and a car was coming behind me.

Brakes failed yes it is available for inspection (until tues Nov 5th as it may be towed from body shop) car would not stop while trying to park in a parking space and kept moving forward while having foot on break pedal. Therefore the car hit a building wall which is approx. 36ft from the raises parking space curb. The problem has not been reproduced as it was inspected by the insuranced and was considered totaled. To my knowledge the car has been only beed inspected by the insurance company, not the manfacturer. To my knowledge there were no warning lamos or meesages prior to the failure.

Driving and car suddenly will stop completely then accelerate. Has happened many times. Most recently last Sunday while passing a slowing car that was making a right hand turn into a driveway.

Car doesn’t seem to accelerate normally or seems to lack proper acceleration. Also the brakes feel funny when braking.

Vehicle gives false brake alert with no obstacle ahead causing car to suddenly brake. This happens multiple times and regularly.

My car frequently accelerates or brakes on its own. It gives brake warnings when no one is near me and the brake or accelerator get stuck.

My car has a warning of gauge display on the warning says: range & fuel , my gas tank is always full. Also when I brake the car made a movement if the motor mounts are old and not holding my motor of my vehicle.

I was driving and the car suddenly started shaking. The car began losing control and I came to a stop as a curb was hit. A further inspection revealed my cv joint was broken. I did not hit anything to cause the cv joint to be broken. Also the departure lane was not activated.

My hrv with 1800 miles suddenly stopped in an intersection only after owning the vehicle for 2 weeks. The Honda dealership tested the computer system, drove the car, and found no abnormalities. The dealership then asked that I pick up the car and drive it as they were unable to replicate the problem. If it were to happen again I was to let them know. I made it clear that I was not going to take the car back as I believed that the driving the car was posed a safety issue.

The problem started after sitting and talking on a phone with car running while waiting for groceries. About a week later, I started having on and off electrical system issues. And all the lights came on the dashboard with abs as the main one. If I locked my trunk over and over it would go away. During this time, I got locked in my car and out of my car. The key would not work properly. The trunk would not lock properly. The brakes would get stuck and I could not release them. The car would not move. This happened on and off for about two weeks. I took it to my mechanic. He ran the diagnostic test and nothing came back. He charged the battery and the problem went away for a couple of weeks. The problem started again and was especially frightening when I could not get out of my car. I took it to the dealer. They told me I needed new locks for the trunk, the door and that the car needed a new computer for the abs. I told them how is that possible. My mechanic did not find an issue and my car at that time didn't even have 100,000 miles and was a Honda. I switched from Nissan with transmission issues at 130,000 miles to a Honda which has great safety and performance reviews. They said there was no recall. I do not understand how a car with less than 100,000 miles has all of these safety issues that can trap me in the car and not allow me to brake properly at high speeds. I have done research online and find there are many complaints about the computer system abs sensor online and have heard this from a second mechanic who indicated he was dealing with the same issue for another customer. He disabled my abs system so I would not continue to have braking issues where it holds or does not seem to release properly, where there are on and off electrical issues with locks, locking, phone, etc. And the landmark Honda dealer in alexandria va wants to charge 3000 for a new computer for a car that is supposed to be safe and reliable and does not even have 100,000 miles.

Brakes are not keeping car stopped. Several times car has started moving slowly when stopped at traffic light or driving on freeway. Several times almost hit car in front of my car. I had to push harder on brakes. No warnings. It has to been inspected by anyone. This has happened since purchase of car in Jan. 2024.
