While driving my Honda Hr-v under normal conditions around noon on Saturday on nc highway 54, the vehicle suddenly illuminated multiple dashboard lights and began to decelerate despite pressing the accelerator. The steering became extremely hard to maneuver, the brakes did not respond, and I was unable to activate the hazard lights due to an electrical malfunction—putting my life and the lives of others in jeopardy. My car gave me no prior warning signs of this issue. It had been serviced at autopark Honda service center on September 19, 2025, including a transmission service, and nothing abnormal (such as debris or metal) was noted or communicated to me. After the incident and I had my car towed to autopark Honda, I was informed that the transmission had failed. I later learned of Honda service bulletin #21-047 (April 27, 2021) concerning premature cvt belt deterioration in 2016–2020 Hr-v models. Despite this known issue, Honda has refused responsibility because my vehicle is about 10 months beyond the 7-year warranty extension. This sudden failure caused complete loss of power, steering, braking, and hazard functions, representing a serious safety risk that warrants investigation.
When driving with cruise control on the vehicle will brake when car is coming toward me from other lane as if the car is going in my lane and it is not. It has caused me to have several close calls with cars behind me almost hitting me.

While driving the car to work the instrument cluster lcd display began to glitch showing garbled information on the fuel as well as effecting the speedometer reading. Having inaccurate speedometer reading due to a faulty instrument cluster can put others at risk due to not knowing your exact speed. There were no indications of a problem prior to this incident. Upon discussion with several hrv owners and forums this issue is likely caused by cracked solder joints on the board for the instrument cluster. The leadfree solder used appears to fail causing connection issues for the pins on the board and erratic read outs and displays. I plan to have the dealer look at the vehicle shortly. This problem is known and reported prolifically on discussion boards. Honda has released several service notices internally related to this issue for crvs and civics, but no recalls and not for hrvs.
The contact owns a 2020 Honda Hr-v. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle jerked, and the vehicle failed to accelerate as intended while depressing the accelerator pedal. Additionally, there was an abnormal sound coming from underneath the vehicle. The steering wheel, abs, tpms, and braking system warning lights were illuminated. The contact stated that the failure was more prominent while turning to the right and depressing the brake pedal. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure became progressively worse. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.

I was driving to work when suddenly my car lost motor function and just stopped, despite me pushing the gas pedal. This has happened to me at least 4 times now since owning the car for less than two years. I have almost been rear-ended each time. This time, however, my car did not want to start back up again. It flashed the battery and oil light on my dash and proceeded to tell me to hit the brake and push button to start (even though it was running), so I turned the vehicle off and attempted to start it again like I have in the past when encountering this issue. When I went to re-start the car, it sputtered and wouldn't start until I waited and tried again. I am very concerned, as I have a dog that I have in the backseat and if I get rear-ended, I will sue if there are injuries. I want a call about this immediately, as it is often pushed aside and I am fed up.

Started vehicle and it lit up with every warning imaginable. Dealership said it's the Honda sensing unit is defective. After reviewing online, it certainly seems everyone's unit is defective. . Now we were quoted 3k to fix safety related stuff. Can't afford to fix so now, just driving it until it crashes! woohoo fun! and no recall!.
Two times I have been driving in busy areas and when I brought my car to a stop at red lights and it’s turned green, my car will no longer move, but stays running so then I have to turn it off and turn it back on for it to gain motor function again. I have almost been rear-ended twice.
Odometer flickers on and off and at times does not even turn on when car is started and moving. When the odometer flicks on it does not register mileage or fuel levels. This is a major safety issue don’t being able to see this vital information.
Speedometer, fuel gauge, mileages, temperature, not showing up on the dashboard! it’s dark when the car it start up! just dark screen on the odometer side. It’s start blinkering when you drive for while. It’s happened to the las 3 years and getting worse this year. It’s happened every morning and fewer times in the evening.
When driving on the highway at around 76 mph, the vehicle suddenly presents power loss and won't accelerate nor rev even if I step into the pedal all the way (no light in the dashboard). Going in the high speed lane, I had to stop in the shoulder lane and turn off the vehicle. After turning it on again, a couple of minutes later the problem was back. This would be the third time I have had the problem. Took it to Honda for a checkup and told them that no light came on in the dashboard, and also told them that the problem has been present when going over 70mph, and what they did is try to replicate the problem at 70mph.
I recently had my car repaired for the recall and a brake job (replacing pads and resurfacing rotors). A couple of days later, I was driving on the highway at about 60mph. Suddenly, the check engine light, parking brake light, brake light, and brake system light all went on. Additionally, the car was flashing neutral, drive, and parking gears while I was in park and driving. I started to slow down and realized that as my speed got slower, each new low speed became the highest speed I could go - pressing the gas with my foot did not increase the speed. As such, I drove to a nearby garage where the lights were reset. No mechanical issues were found with the car, nor was there a warning. I then called the dealership that had performed the service (dch paramus Honda in new jersey) and I was informed that it was unlikely they would be able to diagnose any issues as the lights had been reset so the car was driveable. It seemed very dangerous that these issues could happen at any time. The brake system was put in maintenance mode during my brake job, so I suspect this was a computer issue rather than a mechanical problem.
When pushing on the gas pedal, the vehicle often pushes forward aggressively and shifts very hard. Other times it does nothing when pushing on the gas and several seconds later there is throttling and intermittent shaking back and forth. It does not happen all the time, but happens quite often. I fear the vehicle could propel forward when I am driving and hit someone or something or it could slow suddenly with lack of gas putting other drivers in harm's way. I know there is a similar recall on fuel pumps with this vehicles and my vehicle is within the years and types so I do not understand why my vehicle has not been recalled. No warning lights come on and I cannot have someone look at it without having to pay a large fee. I had an appointment in the past, but it does not do it al the time and they tell me they can't help me if it doesn't do it all the time. Thank you.
The digital gauge on this vehicle has intermittent faults. The gauge goes totally blank, sometimes the digits appear scrambled, other times not at all. This gauge includes odometer as well as the fuel gauge, (and other analytical information that is perhaps not as critical). The lack of a reliable working fuel gauge on this vehicle is concerning and may cause driver to unknowingly run out of fuel in places that are totally unsafe - highway, bridge, or some remote location. Another concern is that if the odometer is not working, not accumulating miles, how does a buyer know what she/he is buying? is the vehicle mileage accurately reflecting the miles on this car? checking on this on-line I discovered that this is not an isolated problem, and that NHTSA may not be aware of this as car owners may not be reporting this as a safety issue. I also discovered that some Honda dealers have addressed this problem, while others push-back on this and want owners to pay for this repair. I purchased my vehicle three months ago, from a private owner. I was not informed of this problem at time of purchase. I did bring this to Honda's attention and was told to bring it in for service, at my own expense.
Push start/stop button was noting working properly (this had a recall and was replaced). However after it was repaired, I noticed the right-sided gas gauge with service repair numbers, milage etc is not working properly; the gas guage and service repair codes disappear and/or are scrambled. I took this to the Honda dealership in coon rapids, minnesota, and was told by the service advisor (drew mechley) that their mechanic said he doesn't think it is related to the start/stop button repair but this is a common probelm seen with Hr-vs. I also found multiple forums with people experiencing the same issue. . Vehicle loses throttle response multiple times a day while traveling on the highway or roads where slowing/stopping isn't frequent. Vehicle will be traveling 50-80mph and will not accelerate even with the pedal on the floor. Vehicle will either maintain speed or start slowing down, occasionally it will rapidly slow down. I will have to fully release the accelerator pedal and lightly slam it all the way to the floor and then the vehicle will decide to respond. A few times while driving in moderate traffic (30-45mph) the throttle will lose all response and will not respond to any pedal input at all for about 5-8 seconds and then will all of a sudden start functioning as intended again. I assume the third issue the vehicle is having with acceleration is related to the first two as well, occasionally it will have very slow acceleration when trying to get up to speed to merge onto the highway. It will take about ¼-? of a mile or about 45-60 seconds to reach 60-70mph. When this occurs I will have the pedal all the way to the floor from the beginning of a fairly long on ramp and by the end of the ramp I will be going no faster than 50mph maybe 55mph. I assume all of this is caused by the cvt transmission or possibly the ecu. I have contacted Honda regarding these issues and they stated that they are aware of these issues and that they are fairly common, and that they also believe that it is a transmission or computer issue, but there is nothing they can nor will do about it because Honda corperate requires them to diagnose every issue through the vehicles computer. So if the vehicle doesn't have a warning light or any dtcs (diagnostic trouble codes) set in the computer they can't (or wont) do anything about it eventhough there is clearly an issue that is entirely able to be diagnosed without a dtc. 90% of the time a bad cvt will never set a dtc. I don't speak on all this because I think I know, I speak on this because know I know as I am an ase certified master technician.
Incident happened one time. Starting car in cold weather (around 25 degrees) after it hadn't been driven in 2 days. The odometer/gas display was black at start up. After a few minutes the gauge lights came on but the digital display was gibberish. I started to drive and once the car warmed up after several minutes the digital display was working as it should and recording milage and acceleration/deceleration speed. My mechanic hooked up the car and no codes were showing a malfunction. Many other folks in the Honda forums have this exact issue. I'm driving this car on a road trip and am concerned something dangerous could occur. For now I will manually/mentally record mileage to ensure I dont run out of gas and praying this isnt a large electrical short issue.
The dial on the dashboard that gives gas tank I do, speed and time do not light up or appear all jumbled if it is below 60 degrees outside. This is not cool.
On two separate occasions during February this has occurred. While at a stop sign with the brake floored the engine revved and the car started to slowly inch forward. Later in the month, at a convenience store, before shifting into park the brake was thoroughly depressed and the engine once again revved and the car started to inch forward. It only stopped when I pushed on the brake with all my might. The car had had its yearly inspection in January.
I was driving on the interstate in cruise, the car engine started revving hard. My speed jumped up to 85mph. Then all of a sudden the vehicle jerked hard and I lost all acceleration. The car rapidly decelerated. Then, the power steering, check engine, vehicle stability assist, electric parking brake, and low tire pressure lights all came on. As well as the gear indicator was unable to show if I was in drive, park, or neutral. The vehicle became very sluggish and started stuttering I had to carefully navigate between other cars flying past me until I was able to get to the side of the road, I was almost hit 3 times, once by a semi-truck. Once I got it to the side of the road I was unable to get the car to move at all. The engine would rev but the car would not move. The car was towed to the local Honda dealer in evansville, in. The dealership said that the cvt transmission belt had shattered and that the transmission needed to be replaced. I asked them about the TSB number: 21-047. They stated that I am out of the 7-year / 150k mile extended warranty so it is going to cost $7,662 to replace it. The vehicle has only 72,000 on it. I could have been killed or severely injured when this happened on the interstate.
I was driving the car home from work and all of the warning lights on the dashboard came on- the check engine light, tire pressure light, traction control light, brake warning light, and the park emergency brake light. The "park" sign and p/r/d light lights were flashing. The car would not accelerate past 35 miles without it kicking back. I was terrified to drive the car on the interstate due to the acceleration kick back. I had to take a longer route home. I prayed the entire way. I keep up with my car maintenance with oil changes, etc. I even had the transmission fluid changed one year prior to this event. I had no prior issues, messages, symptoms, or other problems with this car prior to this event. It happened suddenly. I took the car to the dealership who initially told me the issue was a p0793 sensor and then a week later informed me that I needed a new transmission. I bought this car brand new, and it currently has 90,000 miles on it. Honda posted a bulletin in April 2021 they are aware that this make, and model has transmission issues, but because I am one year outside of the extended warranty, they are not willing to work with me.
Driving slowly to garage, sudden unintended acceleration and brakes stopped working. My car crashed into the rear wall of the garage. The front end of my car was damaged. The wall of my garage was damaged as well. I went to the doctor due to pain in my chest and arms.
Car slowed down during traveling out of town. It appeared to lose power and we had to pull over. After trying to restart it nothing happened which caused us to call for help via aaa assistance!.
The differential broke. I was unable to accelerate on the road; it froze up. I had to pull over and couldn't drive it. I was just outside of the Honda dealer when it happened. I took it to the Honda dealer service center in MD and this was their diagnosis. I didn't take it anywhere else. There were no warnings except I heard rattling when I was at a lower speed the same afternoon about 3 hours earlier. Otherwise, I had just completed a 100k service literally 2 weeks beforehand at Honda service and the Honda service center didn't report anything wrong with the car.
On 8/10/2023, around 9:25 am, at the parking lot of jet propulsion laboratory, 4800 oak grove drive, pasadena, CA, I was pulling into a parking spot, moving very slowly. I was about to stop when the car suddenly took off in full speed, went over the concrete barrier toward hilly area covered with shrubs. That impact stopped the car, but half of my car was in the shrubs. It happened so fast that I didn't have a chance to break or anything. The car went into the shrub where nobody or no other car was around. Please see the attached photos. The bumper on the drive side is damaged and the car suffered some scratches and small broken parts. Prior to this incident, we experienced some minor incidents such as : - car would not start at the first try and we had to try multiple times. We took the car to the dealer we purchased the vehicle and they replaced battery. Even after the replacement of the battery, it occurred couple more times. - speaker announced to release the parking break when it was released and I was driving the car already. We took the car to the dealer and they ran diagnostics but didn't find anything. - the window on the front driver side gets sticky sometimes if left overnight. We took the car to the dealer and they ran diagnostics but didn't find anything. We took the car to the dealer again this morning (8/11/2023) and talked to the service representative. She looked at our record and we found out some of or complaints were not recorded.
I was turning left into a parking spot at work with my foot slightly on the break when my engine revvved and my car accelerated at face pace and my brakes were unresponsive causing me to hit a parked truck in front of me. Upon impact my vehicle kept trying to accelerate causing me to keep pushing the truck until my front right side of my car broke off. My car still kept accelerating and went across the concrete parking block and finally came to a complete stop. Once stopped I could not get the vehicle to turn off. Within minutes the engine finally died. I work inside a chemical plant right next to a highly explosive unit so this could have been catastrophic. Not to mention the people that work there were coming into work as well and could have been pinned between the two vehicles. The plant I work at has thousands of employees. Had I been leaving work and crossing the highway and this occurred I would have been killed and most likely so would have others. I exit my job onto an extremely busy highway. A police report was not filed because it was inside the plant but several people witnessed it. I had to have my vehicle towed as it was too damaged to drive. I have not contacted Honda because I have seen numerous unresolved complaints so I doubt it would help. Prior to this accident I had no problems with the vehicle. My vehicle is in this shop still as this incident just happened 2 days ago. I would like to get rid of the vehicle but then someone else may buy it and have the same issue.

Subject: safety complaint – 2022 Honda hr?v – intermittent unintended acceleration while braking I am submitting this complaint regarding a serious safety defect in my 2022 Honda hr?v. On multiple occasions, the vehicle has unexpectedly accelerated while I was pressing the brake pedal. This behavior is intermittent, unpredictable, and dangerous. Description of the issue: while slowing down or coming to a stop, the vehicle will occasionally surge forward despite my foot being firmly on the brake. The engine revs and the vehicle attempts to move forward against braking force. This is not driver error. It occurs without any warning lights, alerts, or diagnostic messages. Operating conditions when the problem occurs: - low?speed braking (parking lots, stop signs, traffic - foot fully on the brake pedal - no cruise control active - no pedals obstructed - normal road and weather conditions safety concerns: this defect creates a clear risk - rear?end collisions - pedestrian injury - property damage loss of vehicle control the behavior is consistent with an electronic brake/throttle control malfunction, including possible issues with the brake pedal position sensor, accelerator pedal sensor, brake booster pressure sensor, or driver?assist modules (abs, esc, cmbs). Other hr?v owners have reported similar incidents. Dealer response: the issue is intermittent, and the dealership has been unable to reproduce it. No repairs have been performed. No diagnostic codes were stored. Requested action: I am requesting that NHTSA investigate this issue as a potential unintended acceleration defect affecting the 2022 Honda hr?v. This problem poses a significant safety hazard to me and to the public. Thank you for your attention to this matter. **I have made the dealership aware of the ongoing situation as well as Honda corporate but I am waiting on a call back. * a month ago, I had my car on cruise control going around 76mph on flat land. After a while, while driving on flat land, my rpm's shot up to almost 6000 and the speed got up to 88mph in less than 10 seconds. I pulled over, shut the car off so I could calm down before driving again. Later that day, I was driving around 77mph on the interstate again but this time I was not using cruise control and my car dropped to around 50mph almost immediately, even with my foot on the pedal all the way to the floor but the car would not accelerate. During this time the car jerked forward really hard (I was told the cvt is why) but also multiple dash lights came on. I had picture and video proof of this, took it to the dealership but they could not find any reason. Since this day, my car has lost speed multiple times while driving but the steering wheel has started locking up the last few times making it impossible to even steer and get off of the roadway while the car is dropping speed. This is a huge liability for myself with my children in the car as well as other drivers on the road, as I was almost rear-ended by an 18 wheeler yesterday when this happened. It does not do this consistently but over the past month, it has happened about 4-5 times a week, sometimes more.
Twice I was interstate speed driving and lost speed the first time I thought it was the fuel system. The car was towed to the dealership and after they " checked it out" , they told me all they found was a weak battery. The second time was a few days ago but this time, I was revving the engine as I was trying to get my car off the interstate. Thank goodness there was very little traffic. This time however, it restarted and I drove the rest of the way home.
The car accelerated unexpectedly, yes it is available for inspection, I have not taken to dealer. Car has not been inspected by any police dealer etc. No warning lights appeared. Yes car accelerated toward several on coming cars. I shifted gear from neutral with brake to drive with unexpected acceleration.
