Body Problems of Honda Insight

When the vehicle was recently brought in for annual PA state inspection, I was informed by the inspector that there was so much corrosion where the rear trailing arms attach to the subframe that the rear wheel on either side could suddenly collapse leading to a sudden and unpredictable loss of vehicle control. I then brought it to an authorized Honda dealership for their inspection. They produced a short video confirming that the car was unsafe to drive. Still shots from their inspection video are included with this complaint. I then consulted with a well-regarded body shop who confirmed that the car was unsafe to drive and that it probably could not be repaired. I believe that the 2010 Honda Insight rear subframe is very similar to the 2010 Honda cr v rear subframe which was recently recalled for exactly the same issue: part 573 safety recall report 23v-228.

Both sides of the car have rust. The similar issue happen to the Honda crv's 2007 through 2011 model, which have a recall already.

Unknown. Rear frame on both sides are extremely rusted. Car purchased in ohio in 2009 and appears the salt as eroded the car.

Corrosion of the body at the rear when exposed to normal driving conditions. The issue was validated by service center.

On 2/16/23 I was driving on the highway when I heard a loud pop/bang like an explosion or loud crash on the top of my car. There were barely any cars around, no trucks spewing debris, I wasn’t going under an overpass, and I didn’t see anything fly up from the road. I had a passenger in the car who was looking out the windows at the road and didn’t see anything either. I opened the covering for the moon roof to see if something was stuck to the roof and my moon roof had exploded for no reason. Shattered glass fell into my car. My safety and the safety of others was at risk because I was in shock by what happened and it startled me while I was driving. Also, my car is not drive-able until this is fixed and it is through no fault of my own (or anyone else’s beyond the manufacturer). I took the car to a collision center to have the damage assessed for my insurance company. It is isolated to the moon roof, nothing else was damaged. It will be looked at by the dealership on Monday 2/20/23. There were no warning lights or other symptoms of failure prior to the explosion. The moon roof wasn’t cracked or chipped, not compromised in any way. The car is brand new, I bought it new in June 2022.

Rust at the body below rear door.

The whole hood vibrates while driving or when is windy, very noticeable at times. It was replaced once, almost a year ago but now it needs to be replaced again. Same problem eventually the latches will be damaged creating a very hazardous situation. This vehicle has not been on an accident.

Right after a day of purchased and driving back home. We did hear windy noise was coming out from the front of the vehicle by the driver side and took it back to the dealership and they have helped fix it for now.

My complaint is about my car I had an accident on September 26, 2018, in binghamton NY. My airbag was deployed, the seatbelt was damage, and also the front bumper. After I had the accident I received a recall paper and when I verified the number I found I had a recall. I called and talked to them, I also send the first complaint. They sent me an application I filled it out and sent it back. When I call they said to me they still working on it. I recently received another recall paper I called just to be inform about everything.

Window door moldings made aout of rubber are britle and desintegrating making the window loose therefore making the interior of the vehicle noisy. Apparently the quality of this rubber are very cheap it does not last more than three years. By the way it cut one of my fingers when I was cleaning the window. I told a Honda dealer service advisor about this, and she kindly told me that she doesnt know why all Hondas do these. . . . . Well, 'it's because Honda is using cheap materials," I told her. I was driving in a line of slow moving traffic on a two line lane main street keeping a constant speed of 22 mph when suddenly my car lurched forward accelerating rapidly making a high pitched screaming sound. As the car gained speed I swerved into the other lane to avoid crashing into the car in front of me. Meanwhile I stomped on the foot brakes, pulled on the emergency brake and shifted into park trying to stop the car. Barely missing a head on collusion, the car jumped over the sidewalk, took down a steel sign, scraped over concrete barriers as it continued now at a speed of approximately 55 mph. It stopped only after I crashed it into the front window of a cafe. I'm concerned that this hybrid has a serious defect causing it to suddenly accelerate.

The contact owns a 2010 Honda Insight. While driving approximately 70 mph, the exterior rubber trim detached from the vehicle and onto the highway. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 22,000.

There is obviously an issue with the paint used by Honda. Our other car - a Toyota - which is 3 years older and same color kept in same conditions is looking just fine - however the paint on our Honda's roof and hood has disintegrated. It looks awful. When picking up my car after a tire rotation at costco - a gentleman recommended I contact Honda. I did. They basically said - OH well, too bad. We'll make a note of it in case something comes up.

When I originally purchased my Insight, I noticed that the weather stripping was folding up. I had the dealership replace it, and within 2 days, the weather stripping flew off as I was driving down the highway. I went back to the dealership, and they replaced it again. 3 months later, same thing happened. The weather stripping, came off as I was driving causing a traffic hazard. This time I went to a different dealership, and their solution was to put double sided tape on the weather stripping. Its now been 2 weeks, and the ends of the stripping is coming up again.
