Four problems related to starter have been reported for the 1999 Honda Odyssey. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Starter problem

Failure Date: 11/09/2015

Tl-the contact owns a 1999 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that while parked, the vehicle would not start. The vehicle's starter would not catch. The contact let the vehicle sit for about 30 minutes and the vehicle was able to be restarted. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the ignition switch needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 175,000. Ed.

2 Starter problem

Failure Date: 01/03/2010

The contact owns a 1999 Honda Odyssey. While driving at speeds of 80 mph, the vehicle suddenly stalled and restarted without driver intent. The vehicle continued to proceed throughout the failure. The dealer stated that there were two previous recalls for the starter, both of which the vehicle received repairs under the recall campaign. The dealer stated that the manufacturer would not offer any assistance with any further repairs to the vehicle. Repairs would be made at the owners expense. The contact was concerned and did not believe that failure was caused by the starter; yet, that there could possibly be a defect in the ignition wires. The failure mileage was 212,000.

3 Starter problem

Failure Date: 10/23/2009

1999 Honda Odyssey. While driving various speeds, the vehicle sporadically stalled without warning. Speed was not a factor at the time of the failure. I called the dealer in reference to NHTSA campaign id number 02v120000 (electrical system:ignition:switch) (also Honda service bulletin 02-031) and they stated the recall was already done. I would be responsible for the repair costs. I contacted Honda corporate (case# n032009-10-xxxxxxx) and they stated I would be responsible for the repair costs. Clearly there is a defect in the "improved" ignition switch used for the recall; the replacement cost should be covered by Honda. The vehicle was repaired at a cost of $250, plus $110 to reconnect the aftermarket remote starter. The failure mileage was 125,000 and current mileage was 125,000.

4 Starter problem

Failure Date: 09/16/2009

1999 Honda Odyssey lx engine suddenly stops while in traffic (3 times), no warning lights, no power steering, no power brakes. This model was recalled in 2002 for faulty ignition starter switch that had contacts corrode and stop engine as if the ignition key had been shut off. This Odyssey had ignition switch replaced in 2004 at 71,000 miles now has 120,000 miles.
