Engine Cooling System problems of the 2006 Honda Odyssey

Air conditioning compressor leak caused by small stone requiring complete replacement.

1) no events leading up to the failure 2) air conditioner simply stops blowing cold air 3) recharge. Didn't fix. Dealership service department telling me that a rock hit the air conditioner condenser and it needs to be replaced for $1200. Many complaints of the same thing happening to other customers.

The a/c unit should not fail in a 4 year old car that is hardly used. We still have not repaired it because it costs around 1,000. 00.

Rock popped up and punctured the a/c condenser which resulted in the a/c going out due to freon leaking out. This is a very common problem on the Odyssey and Honda should be held responsible in correcting the defect. I have to have the compressor replaced and recharged which will cost 700. 00. I have the part ordered but have to go without air for a week until it comes in and I live in florida so it is not fun having kids and no air this time of year.

An object, most likely road debris like rocks or pebbles, impacted the a/c condenser causing the a/c to leak rendering the system inoperable. Due to Honda's design of the front bumper, the a/c condenser is completely exposed to debris. In order to fix the problem the condenser must be replaced which would cost an estimated bill of close to $1000 in parts and labor. Even after the fix, the condenser still remains exposed and the likelihood of this event happening again remains high due to the design of the front bumper. This problem was obviously fixed by Honda in the 2008 year by installing a "honeycomb" type grille to cover this area to reduce the chance of debris impacting the condenser.

Air conditioning failed at 51,900 miles. Debris poked a hole in the condenser. $1000 to fix. Not under warranty. It could happen again so I traded it in for a 2009 model!.

I own a 2006 Odyssey and air conditioning condenser failed " due small rock puncturing hole". Internet search showed just how common this problem is with the Odyssey. This problem is not covered under warranty because they state it is an "act of nature". I was told I could try to have it covered under my car insurance just like a rock hits a windshield and it gets replaced. ( why should the insurance industry pay for what is obviously a design flaw!) the advertisement of low cost of ownership is false, because just this replacement is going to cost $750 in less than 3 years of ownership.

A/c condenser went out due to "rock hitting it".

I have a 2006 Honda Odyssey and the ac suddenly stop blowing cold air. I later found out that the condenser was damaged by the rock hitting it while driving on a highway. I noticed that there are a lot of people who own an Odyssey also experience a similar problem. This is consider as a design problem from Honda not having any protection to the condenser as rocks can hit the condenser from the highway and damage it. This cost me almost $800 to fix. I have 2 small children and eventhough I got it fixed, the condenser can get damaged anytime as there is nothing protecting it.

I own a 2006 Honda Odyssey and I have been having many problems with this vehicle. The most recent problem is with my ac. It worked one day and the very next day it stopped working. Given the fact that I ve had previous problems, I decided to google the internet just to see if anyone else have been having similar problems. And sure enough I came across many others that have been experiencing the same problems.

I bought a new 2006 Honda Odyssey ex rear dvd and navigation van. A few days back (at 26,000miles and less than 3yrs), there was smoke coming from the engine of the car. . . I quickly pulled over called the dublin Honda, CA dealer. They advised me to tow the car to the dealership. After I that I was advised that the a/c condenser has a hair-pin size hole (not visible to naked eye) and that's the problem. They told me that this is not covered by Honda bumper to bumper warranty. . I was shocked to hear that. I had to pay $880. 76 for this repair for a $40,000. 00 van which is still under factory warranty. . . . This is ridiculous. . Honda put the condenser at the wrong place (without a front guard) and make its customers pay for its ridiculous design. . In the new models now they have put a guard to protect the condenser. I urge you to fine Honda for this and have them issue a recall on their faulty design of which thousands have been victim.

The front end of my Honda was hit by a rock on the freeway. Saw it fly in front of me but didn't hear it hit anything. When I got to my destination front end was smoking/steaming. Found the rock had punctured my ac condenser. $600 to fix. (of course Honda wont cover it. But my insurance did) my complaint is there is no protection down there for such an expensive item. How much could it have cost Honda to put some kind of screen protection down there?.

During driving in highway, oil cap detached from its place, entered radiator fan box and brook the radiator. As a result the cruise control released itself, check engine indicator and vsa indicator was lit. The car towed to the nearest Honda dealer.

I have a newer 2006 Honda Odyssey minivan with only 6000 miles. The air conditioner no longer works (blows warm air). Was told that a rock hit the condenser unit - and it is not covered under warranty. Searching around the internet, I find that hundreds and hundreds of other 2005-2007 Honda Odyssey owners have come across the same problem. The problem is that the ac condenser coils are exposed under the front grill. Any little rock or debris can/will puncture the ac lines - causing the refrigerant to leak. This is a common problem and it's costing us $700+ dollars to fix. Honda must realize that this is a problem with the 2005-2007 Odysseys since they now include a grill guard on the 2008 model. Honda should retro fit the 2005-2007 Odyssey will some grill protection screen to prevent this from happening. This is a design flaw that should be addressed. We, as owners of a new minivan, shouldn't have to pay another $700+ to have the air conditioner fixed when we've only driven the van for as short as 4000 miles. Honda can remedy this with a very simple fix.

I have a 2006 ex-l Honda Odyssey with 11000 miles on it. I haven't driven it much yet. I've noticed that my a/c has stopped working. I took it to the dealership. They told me that a rock has hit a a/c condenser and freon has leaked out and it's not covered under warranty and would cost me $960. I called american Honda at 1-800-999-1009 to complain but they rejected my claim. I'm seeing numerous complaints online with same issue. I don't think it's a coincidence, but rather a problem with the design.

I own a 2006 Honda Odyssey ex-l. On Wednesday June 20, 2007 I noticed that my air conditioner was no longer putting out cold air. I also noticed at this time that my temp gauge was over to the hot line. I immediately shut off my engine and let it cool. Once I restarted it immediately went back to the hot position. Once I made it home I shut off the engine and noticed that the fan continued to run and the car was emitting a burning rubbery smell. I called the Honda dealership and told them about this. I asked about this being covered under warranty and the technician stated that if for some reason there was a rock in there that my warranty would not cover it but I had no concern because I thought this was rare. It was towed to the Honda dealership and they called me the next morning stating that there were rocks in my radiator and that my warranty would not cover it and it was going to cost me over $700 to get it fixed. I did some research and talked with Honda again and they said that they see this alot. They showed me my radiator and three rocks that they pulled out of it saying that these are what caused my problem. They asked if they could fix the radiator while they had the parts in stock and I said yes knowing that I need my car ASAP. I later called the dealership again to question the incident with the rocks because I talked with another mechanic and he said that this should not happened that easily. They still have the old radiator. The level of courtesy and customer service that I have received from Honda has dramatically dropped since I have been investigating this issue. This morning, Sunday July 1, 2007 I decided to do some internet research on Honda Odyssey's and this rock problem and I was amazed and appalled at how much this happens and how much Honda has just ignored this design flaw. I feel that a design flaw allowing your engine to overheat can put you at risk for a major engine fire and possibly death and Honda has chosen to ignore this.

I have owned my Honda Odyssey minivan for a little over a year. The ac wasn't working, and I have been told that a "rock or pebble" must have hit the condenser causing a puncture. The part alone is $790, and Honda is refusing to cover under warranty. There are multiple complaints regarding this issue from other owners as the condenser lies low to the ground. Honda is covering "some" people's costs, but not others. I feel this is likely a manufacturer defect that needs to be fixed, and covered under warranty. There is currently no grille or protection for the condenser.
