Hatchback/liftgate Support Device problems of the 2007 Honda Odyssey

Approximately 3 weeks ago, my wife went out to our driveway to start her day and suddenly the passenger door and liftgate on our low mileage 2007 Honda Odyssey minivan would not open. Neither could be opened via remote or physical level (interior or exterior). At the same time, the right tail light stopped lighting. The dealership cannot explain the coincidence, which suggests some sort of electical issue which broke multiple actuators, but regardless it is a huge safety issue. Right now occupants could very well be trapped in the vehicle in an emergency. The dealer has provided an estimate of $1000 to repair, and I believe they should address the issue at their expense as there are many, many reports of Hondas suffering from these door and liftgate issues. Please help make them accountable before someone is injured or killed. Thanks.

2007 Honda Odyssey. Consumer experienced a second failure of the lift gate struts that held the rear entry open while the attendant loaded and unloaded a wheelchair.

Honda Odyssey 2007 liftgate non-powered lift struts failed instantaneously. This caused the heavy liftgate to no longer stay on the open/up position. Honda (under extended warranty plan) replaced both struts. Within several months, struts again failed and were replaced by Honda. On 11/3/2013 this struts again failed instantaneously (used without problems around 2pm), failed at 4:30pm. This is less than two years since last replacement for a major functionally necessary component of the Mini-van. Honda was contacted and claims there are no known defects with the struts and that they are "far" outside the replacement warranty window of 12 months. It would same Honda uses defective or inferior parts for these struts. Honda support rep. Told me that if I felt the struts were not high quality and effective in holding the liftgate up I should look for 3rd party manufactured struts that filled my needs better. Very surprised by this response that Honda would tell me to get "better" parts outside if their own liftgate struts are not up to the job they are designed to do for years without failure.

No longer has strut assist to open or support liftgate in open position. Struts are manufactured by stabilus part # 6826ur 0810n 251/06 a5 also has this number 74820-shj-a012. There is a safety recall for this exact issue in the 2005 Honda Odyssey NHTSA action number ea08015. Contacted dealer and scheduled an appointment to fix - at my own expense - as there is no recall notice for the 2007 sudden strut failure.

When I opened the rear power liftgate, it got almost completely open and then unexpectedly closed while making a beeping sound. It would have closed on my head if I didn't jump out of the way fast enough. I tried it again using the remote again and then w/ the liftgate button on the dashboard and it continues to malfunction.

2007 Honda Odyssey has ongoing brake pedal problems. The consumer stated the pedal was soft and it would drop from under her feet. The dealer bled the brake system. The rear hatch did not stay up on its own. The dealer replaced the struts on the hatch.
