Power steering pump went out making it hard to turn. It started with an occasional ticking noise and then gradually got harder to make turns. No more ticking noise now just hard to turn. I have actually screamed like someone power lifting trying to get into a parking space!.
The contact owns a 2007 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that while driving approximately 70 mph, the power steering assist exhibited a loud noise. The vehicle was taken to a dealer, who diagnosed that the reservoir steering pump needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 114,000.
Last fall my power steering would go out when I was decelerating or reversing started to be difficult to turn. The van would make a terrible noise when idling and you would turn the vehicle and I noticed it seemed to only be when the weather was cold. I had an auto shop evaluate it and flush it as well as place a dye to see if it was leaking and it wasn't. I went in for a recall just recently and the dealership stated I should just replace the power steering pump even though they don't know what's wrong with it. This is a known problem as multiple online consumer complaint sites have listed this problem. My concern is that if I have to drive in icy conditions to which I will have to decelerate I will have problems with steering which is not safe for myself, my children and other drivers.
Vehicle was hard to steer at low speeds also during cold weather we hear a loud whining noise coming from the power steering pump. Took the vehicle to the Honda dealer where we were told the power steering pump was bad. They replaced the pump and told us if we hear the whining noise again it is probably the power steering resovior which was not replaced. There is also a popping sound in the steering which they say is the rack and pinion and it needs to be replaced. Now the vehicle is not under warranty anymore but before the warranty had expired we had taken the vehicle to the dealer to diagnose the popping noise but was told they could not find anything wrong. Magically now they have found the problem. With them now wanting to charge $2000 to fix it. The vehicle only has 54000 miles and should not be having this much trouble. I have never owned a vehicle needing this much work this soon. Although I do love my vehicle I can honestly say I am having doubts of ever owning another one. If they know there is a problem they should fix the problem.

The manufacturer was contacted about the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 45,000. Updated 02/11/lj.
2007 - 2010 Honda Odyssey owners are targeted to receive notification of a "warranty extension" to replace the power steering pump under certain conditions. I received the notice for my 2007 Honda Odyssey, suffered with the "hard to turn" condition (see TSB 10-076) and associated pump whining noise that is described in TSB 07-005 (defective pump reservoir). Although the pump was extended warranty replaced at university motors (missoula) I was required to pay for the replacement of the reservoir ($66. 08). My understanding is that the reservoir defect is what causes the pump to fail. I believe that a recall should be required and all owners that have been required to pay for the reservoir (or pump) should be 100% reimbursed. American Honda automobile refused to reimburse for this replacement stating that the extended warranty applies only to the pump. Please review huge complaint data base.
Have chronically reported excessive force needed to turn steering wheel at low speeds. Correction: Honda is requesting that I flush power steering pump and change the reservoir.
I am a owner of Honda Odyssey 2007. We start to hear noise around 2008 winter after highway driving. Then, we begin to experience the difficulty to turn wheel occasionally between 2008 to 2010. In 2011, the difficulty of turning wheel become more frequent at low speed, but managable. In June 2011, we experinced difficulty to turn wheel during a trip on highway driving. This incident made us to aware the problem of power steering pump. After searching the website, many Honda Odyssey owners complained the same problem and mentioned that Honda installed the problematic power steering pump for their car since 2004, therefore a service bulletin 10-076 was announced by Honda. Please consider a recall service from Honda to protect Honda owners' safety during highway driving. Thanks.
We first became aware of the problem with our Odyssey when the low-speed steering (e. G. Navigating parking spaces) became very difficult, as if the power steering were off. We took it to the dealer and they said they cleaned the power steering system as per a service bulletin. About two months later we noticed that after driving the van for at least approximately 20 miles, the power steering pump made an audible hum or whirring that could be heard at low speeds. The noise would change pitch along with the engine. Sometimes, the low-speed steering would again be difficult, but not to the same extreme as before and far less often. When we took it back to the dealer they reported that a seal was broken in the steering rack and that the pump also had to be replaced. We were told that not replacing both these items, at a cost of $2500. 00, could lead to power steering loss and cause a dangerous situation. So we had no choice but to replace these items even though the van only had 50,000 miles on it when the problem first became noticeable.
Consumer states ongoing problem/defect with a Honda Odyssey concerning front wheels wobbling and vehicle jerking the consumer stated the wobble from the front wheels was most noticeable at low speed turns. The consumer stated when he hit the slightest bump, the wobble could be felt in the steering wheel. After turning a corner, and the steering wheel was released, the steering wheel returned to straight forward with a series of jerks. The dealer was unable to provide a remedy even though there were complaints from other customers. The consumer stated he returned to the dealer regarding problems with the brakes. The service writer informed the consumer there was a weakness in the hydraulic brake system and the master cylinder would have to be replaced. The consumer learned of a recall, but records showed it was never replaced. On may 21, 2010, the modulator and sealing caps were replaced. On January 19, 2011, the dealer installed a master cylinder repair kit. The remedies showed little to no improvement. The consumer stated after not using the brakes for a few miles, he would have to pump the brakes several times, in order to stop, because the pedal would go to the floor.

In 2008, had my 2007 Honda Odyssey touring was serviced by gilroy Honda due to a faulty power steering pump. At that time, they had replaced the faulty pump as it was found to be causing the sticky driving during slow speeds. This issue is not noticed on high speeds since there are no big/wide turns needed at that speed. The van is normally driven by my wife and I seldom use it. I recently used it (2nd week of oct '10) when I have to take the van to gilroy Honda for a regular service. During that time, I noticed a very sticky steering at low speeds. Very similar to what I noticed in 2008. I also noticed that at low speeds, it tends to pull towards the right. I also notice that it is very difficult to get out of a tight spot (like in a parking lot) because of this. I was worried about it since my wife is driving it everytime and that she might hit something or somebody during a slow maneuver. I complained about it to gilroy Honda but they said they will not replace it for me as it is no longer under warranty. I asked whether or not they have a recall about this but said no. I think this has to be a safety recall as it can lead to crash or even worse injuries.
Power steering is non-existent at parking speeds. While parking, turning or maneuvering at very slow speeds, the only way to turn the car is to "muscle" the steering wheel around. Power steering engages as speed increases. Mentioned numerous times to dealer and they claim that is the way a van drives. The vehicle already was repaired from lack of oil placed in steering column when it was built. Lack of manufacturer response is concerning me. My fathers 2006 had same problem and he was told Honda uses a bigger"screen" now somewhere in the steering pump and it is a known problem.
The contact owns a 2007 Honda Odyssey. While driving at low speeds of 5 mph, the vehicle lost power steering without any warning. The steering wheel became difficult to turn. The vehicle was taken to a dealer who stated that the steering pump was defective . The steering pump was replaced at the owners expense. The failure mileage was 40,000 and the current mileage was 49,439.
2007 Honda Odyssey. When at a slow speed, the power steering pump may not be operating at power and you lose almost all, if not all power steering assist. It has nearly caused an accident for me turning into driveways and parking spaces multiple times already (at least 3 incidents that were near-misses). Upon reporting the issue to Honda, it was difficult to duplicate in a limited test and I was simply told that was "normal" in my vehicle. There are dozens of reports with over a hundred people just in one internet forum for Honda Odyssey owners and this is apparently an issue with 2006 through 2009 models, and possibly even 2010 models. Honda has reportedly replaced power steering pumps, power steering fluid reservoirs, and a few other components for those who had warranties, although it appears the issue remains or is only resolved until 10k - 20k miles later when it resurfaces.
2 complaints, first one is the power steering pump went at 35000 miles. Honda did replace it under warranty. But the pump in now at 60,000 miles is going bad. Second complaint, the front left hub bearing went bad way too early, 50,000 miles. This is a very dangerous problem. Called Honda and the local Honda dealership several times and received no help at all. They would not cover this part or the workmanship to replace it. Now at 65,000 miles the van is making the same noise so I am assuming another hub bearing is going bad. I have never purchase a Honda before this one, I will never buy another.
Power steering issue on 2007 Honda Odyssey. No power steering ability in parking, k turn or parallel park. Faster speeds it kicks in, slower speeds you have to muscle it through. Told by Honda service department that no recall to date, need to replace pump and reservoir. It's only 3 yrs old. . . This is not a normal wear and tear item. Google resulted in several consumer complaints on power steering. Although it did not cause an accident it is certainly a manufacturing defect. Please research further.
Honda Odyssey 2007 driver seat belt stopped working, dealer at first wanted to send me home without seat belt, after I refused to drive the car , they gave me a rent a car for repairs. Also brake system not working properly , multiple previous mentions to the dealer that breaks are soft, they told me it was not any thing bad and nothing they can do also steering pump problems went bad at 34,000 ,miles and they said it will cost 700 dollars to fix , steering very hard and not safe, unable to steer quickly and avoid objects on the road.
Honda Odyssey. After approximately 30 minutes of driving, the power steering pump whines, buzzes or hums. Honda issued a bulletin (Honda service bulletin 07-005 applicable to all 05-07 and some 08 vans) stating the power steering pump reservoir is defective, requiring a new pump, filter and fluid. However, they will only provide replacement if under warranty. My concern is the metal shaving or other particles my impact the steering and cause the driver to loose control.
2007 Honda Odyssey ex-l: power steering issues there is no power steering assist when parking and moving at low speeds. Once you are moving at a slightly higher speed, it kicks in, but until then, it is as if you are driving with no power steering. Power steering pump has been replaced multiple times. This is clearly a safety issue, as one can never tell whether there will be power steering or not.
