1 Steering problem

Failure Date: 04/23/2023

Ran a code tester and everything from recalls are popping up.

2 Steering problem

Failure Date: 07/28/2022

Problem is the bolt that holds serpentine belt tensioner on has broken on twice in the last year. Why I am reporting this because the last time it broke I almost had a head on collision on 2 lane road belt broke as I was going around turn lost control of my steering barley missing the on coming vehicle and ditch on opposite side of rode. Ps this must have happen before I bought the vehicle because the bolt I removed that broke off was numeber 12 strength which could not find on internet to replace the bolt Honda uses is a #10 strength.

3 Steering problem

Failure Date: 11/01/2020

Break push automatic without my pushing, stearing hard toward one side and may be leaking, colour pills, power door actuator latch problem, pipe under engine look rotten. Transmissionn noise. During driving, car break peddle work and not in my control. Pax tyre one out of 4 has lost surface, thread of michelin pax tyre and in warrantee and michelin asked to go to Honda dealer only and only as they only solve pax tyre problem. Turning vehicle in slow speed is very hard though power stearing and noise come from power door front left driver side actuator. Recall was for this car Honda odessey 2007 but now web say no recall or 0 recall. I want Honda to help fix all problem as a courtesy. In life my father, husband, grandpa used Honda so paid huge and bought best car but give problems. Tel 908 240 4877 or rgpatelnyl@ yahoo. Co should be contacted please sir.

4 Steering problem

Failure Date: 09/11/2020

The vsa warning light keeps coming on along with an exclamation sign. It prevents acceleration and causes temporary loss of power while driving. Also, prevents use of cruise control. It temporarily resets when engine is turned off but then turns on again while driving. This occurs while vehicle is in motion on city streets as well as highways.

5 Steering problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2019

My 2007 Odyssey was diagnosed as having a power steering leak. This was funny because my 2004 accord was also diagnosed with the same issue. Multiple mechanics suggested that perhaps there was an issue with power steering machinery in Hondas from those years. In fact, there were recalls for both 2004 accords and 2007 Odysseys but our vehicle VIN numbers did not fall under those recalls. However, this is still concerning that this is due to faulty parts and would like Honda to consider a free replacement as they would have for those vehicles for whom the parts were recalled.

6 Steering problem

Failure Date: 05/03/2018

Vsa light came on then the car will not go over 2000 rpms and the steering gets hard. The brakes go to floor making hard brake feel. This happened on the interstate.

7 Steering problem

Failure Date: 04/05/2018

Have had extensive issues from Honda of America and local dealerships regarding the status of the Odyssey's safety. This van has had issues since new that Honda has consistently attempted to avoid dealing with. Vehicle at low speeds has suddenly heavy and troublesome steering affected steering response and vehicle direction when turning. Brake pedal feel when slowing in any forward/reverse direction is unresponsive increasing stopping distance and affecting emergency maneuvers. Dealership/ Honda has not and will not accept liability!.

8 Steering problem

Failure Date: 12/29/2017

My Honda Odyssey shuts off completely while driving, at that time you can't turn the steering wheel (or it is very very hard to turn). This is preceded by usually the lights on dashboards flashing. Sometimes it will shut off (dashboard will go black) and come right back after few seconds. Other times the I have to stop and turn it on again and it works. Yesterday it turned off and the car came to stop then I moved the battery little and the hazard light started flashing. When it's completely dead even hazard light would not blink. Today it happened again and even after moving the battery it did not get power back. I had left the hazard light on but it was not blinking. However after around 5 minutes or so on it's own the hazard light started blinking and I could drive off.

9 Steering problem

Failure Date: 12/02/2017

My Honda Odyssey has developed a vibration in the front end. We've replaced the rims, tires, and suspension to no avail. The vibration can be overwhelming at times. We are unaware of anything that could have caused this since it came on gradually. It appears to be worse in the winter.

10 Steering problem

Failure Date: 06/10/2017

Very strong gas smell.

11 Steering problem

Failure Date: 06/02/2017

We were out of the house and on to a city street, suddenly battery light is on and cannot steer at all. Almost got into crash. Turns out the serpentine belt tensioner, new from Honda dealer in 2017, its bolt sheared off three months after installation. If this happened on the highway, it would most certainly got us into an accident. Honda should recall all the drive belt tensioner, but unfortunately, we have no choice but put in another Honda tensioner.

12 Steering problem

Failure Date: 03/15/2017

I've been having problems for years with the power steering but it has gotten worse. Now I see Honda extended the warranty but I was never notified. I bought my van brand new. I should have been notified. I have trouble parking and turning at low speeds, the power steering locks up and makes it feel as though I have no power steering when turning. The recall should have been offered to all owners.

13 Steering problem

Failure Date: 03/09/2017

The tensioner bolt has sheared off 3 times since the serpentine belt was replaced. In both cases the car was in motion and power steering was lost making it nearly impossible to steer the car safely. Fortunately this did not happen on the highway and occurred on city streets. In all cases our mechanic used original factory parts. This is a significant safety concern for my wife and 5 children. It appears others have experienced similar problem that can be referenced on the following website. . Read more...

14 Steering problem

Failure Date: 01/20/2017

The power steering does not circulating properly when the weather is cold below 20 degrees. Hard to control the steering. You may have to let the engine warm to avoid the hard steering.

15 Steering problem

Failure Date: 09/05/2016

Making a long winding and loud sound when turning the steering wheel at slow speed particularly at stationary position. Another issue is, it is very hard to turn either to the left or right like it is not equipped with power steering at all.

16 Steering problem

Failure Date: 03/08/2016

When I am driving my van at about 65 and above and when I hit the brake the steering wheel starts to vibrate very badly. This does not happen I am driving at less than 60 mph. Every time this happens, I feel like I might crash into other vehicles or run off the road due to the vehicle becoming very unstable. I have taken the vehicle to the dealership several times but they test drive it and say that there is no issues.

17 Steering problem

Failure Date: 01/31/2015

Steering becomes tight and very hard at low speeds and my wife started complaining of sore arms. I tried and found it to be quite hard. Took it to the dealer and he flushed power steering fluid and charged me for it though there is a TSB on how to fix it. Took it to the tire shop and they asked me to take it to the alignment shop. Then I searched the internet and found TSB a11-039 and several other letters from Honda to customers. Honda extended the warranty but did not inform the owners!! I did not receive any communication regarding this and my vehicle does not show any open recalls in Honda website. Steering is quite critical to the vehicle and Honda should recall instead of playing with lives of customers.

18 Steering problem

Failure Date: 09/10/2014

This vehicle is very hard to steering when it stops or in low speed. I talked with Honda customer service. They claimed that it is out of warranty. However, I found there are lots of same problems described on-line. I believe Honda should provide a service recall on this issue.

19 Steering problem

Failure Date: 07/21/2014

Tough to steer! when moving it is little okay to maneuver still hard but manageable. With all these complaints on this same steering power issue I was surprise Honda didn't recall for this manufacturer defect and fix the issue.

20 Steering problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2014

The condition was first noticed shortly after aquiring the vehicle in a parking lot while trying to negotiate a turn. The vehicle steering was normal at first and then suddenly required excessive force to turn the steering wheel. Heavy braking was required to avoid a collision with another vehicle. Immediately following this experience, after getting the vehicle to a safe location, I attempted to turn the steering wheel both directions while stopped and at low speeds, (approximately 0-10 mph) and noticed the condition consistantly for approximately 2-3 minutes. I then parked the vehicle. I checked the fluid level and it was within the min and max levels. After returning to the vehicle later that day, the steering was functioning normally. The condition has since come and gone several times (approximately 1-2 times / week) and my Honda dealer has just shrugged it off saying that if I can't reproduce the problem while at their shop, there's nothing they can do. I had the same issue with a 2006 Honda Odyssey and the dealer refused to do anything about it even while under warranty. After doing some research, I have found that there are technical service bulletins issued by Honda to their dealers for this exact issue, but the dealer still refuses to correct the problem. The safety issue arrises especially when someone unfamiliar with the vehicle drives it as when my mother used my van to transport my three children. When attempting to pull our into traffic she was unable to keep the vehicle in her lane. Fortunately the other driver was able to avoid her. I understand that vehicle components are not designed to last forever and I do not have a problem with repairs. However, this is a known issue from the manufacturer which they are very reluctant to correct. Date & mileage are approximate.

21 Steering problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2014

I bought 2007 Odyssey at 67,000 miles. I purchased a trade-in vehicle from sterling Acura dealer, steering drifts to the right within 3 seconds, I took the van to the dealer 3 times they've switched tire positions, done the alignment still the drift to the right happens. Then they say it's because of road crowing which I totally don't accept. I read through many forums where everyone is pissed-off with this problem. I suppose Honda should fix this problem or part knowledge with the dealer on how to fix it.

22 Steering problem

Failure Date: 03/10/2014

Very hard to steer. It suddenly stopped smooth operation and remained hard since Mar 10th, 2014. Looks like the power steering stopped working. Feel like driving a big truck and apply a lot of power to steer. It becomes tough when the vehicle comes to a complete stop. When moving it is little okay to maneuver (still hard but manageable). I would like Honda to recall for a manufacturer defect and fix the issue.

23 Steering problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2014

Loss of power steering & difficulty turning steering wheel. Paint on top of the roof has begun to fade. Had to replace oil pan because of lug nut damage to pan. According to the mechanic damaged was caused to the oil pan due to the quality of metal within the lug nut that is of harsher material than the oil pan. Therefore, it caused damage to the oil pan that required us to have an immediate oil pan replacement during a routine oil change.

24 Steering problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2013

The vehicle is hard to steer when starting from parked position or at low speeds. This makes the vehicle hard to maneuver into a parking space, parallel park, or to pull out from a parked position.

25 Steering problem

Failure Date: 07/16/2013

I entered a highway and was accelerating to a speed of approx. 35 mph when the vehicle suddenly decelerated, as if the brakes had been slammed on, causing me to lurch forward, triggering the seat belts to tighten. I maintained steering control, removed my foot from the gas pedal, then suddenly the vehicle accelerated rapidly without my pressing on the gas pedal. This happened four times within approximately 60 seconds. I'm stating this mildly when I say the experience was terrifying. I pulled over, turned the car off, and called our mechanic who advised I slowly and safely drive the van to the shop, which wasn't too far away, or consider having it towed. I chose to drive slowly to the mechanics and the problem did not occur again. Upon diagnostic testing, our mechanic said it was a steering sensor that lost its memory and needed reset, an easy fix and that while this problem is rare, it's not unheard of, yet it shouldn't happen again. (we had recently had new tires installed prior to this event, the mechanic suspected that while the tires were being changed, the sensor's memory must have been wiped. ) the second event was this past wed. , oct. 2, the same experience as before happened again. Only on this occasion, our mechanic's diagnostic testing did not provide a code as it had before, but recognizing the complaint, they reset the sensor again. In both events, the roads were dry, clear weather, we were driving on new tires and at low speeds, having just moments before turned on the ignition and begun accelerating. We are now being told that our vehicle has two broken motor mounts. We highly suspect this is due to the sudden jerking back and forwards from this involuntary deceleration/acceleration issue; it's an expensive repair! Honda needs to recall this model and get a fix ASAP. We are thankful this hasn't caused an accident--yet. Bought this van used in 2010.

26 Steering problem

Failure Date: 04/17/2013

Normal driving conditions, low battery light illuminates and there is no power steering.

27 Steering problem

Failure Date: 11/01/2012

The car has become increasingly hard to steer over the last two to three years to the point that it is almost impossible to turn it into parking spots or other areas at low speeds. My wife feels particularly unsafe about driving it like this, as she is afraid she will hit another car or object related to the inability to turn without manually overpowering the steering wheel. In checking for a recall, I noted that there are multiple other customer complaints with similar issue. Please address as possible. Thank you. For onset date, this is a gradually worsening issue. I would say that I first noticed slight increased resistance about 3-4 years ago. It has worsened to the point that it is now a major resistance when attempting to turn at low/minimal speed.

28 Steering problem

Failure Date: 11/01/2012

The contact owns a 2007 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that when attempting to turn the steering wheel, the wheel would become resistant and the contact experienced great difficulty in turning. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the failure could not be replicated. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted about the issue. The failure mileage was unavailable and the current mileage was 62,891.

29 Steering problem

Failure Date: 12/24/2011

After driving apx. 50 miles most of them at highway speeds upon exiting the highway and waiting to make a turn I heard a loud whining noise from under the hood. When I tried to turn it was difficult to do so. The noise continued and the vehicle was difficult to turn at times as if you had loss power assit. I parked the van and ckecked the power steering fluid level, level was good, but it looked foamy. The van sat for apx. 3 hours I checked the fluid again and it looked normal. After starting the van the noise was not as pronounced and steering seemed ok, but after making the 50 mile return trip home the same problem returned. After checking the internet I find this is a problem Honda is aware of since they have issued at least two service bulletins 07-005 and 10-076 to address the problem. I would think any problem that would affect the steering of a vehicle at slow or high speed should be repaired by the manufacturer. You could loose the ability to avoid an accident if this would happen at either speed or cause an accident. It is not as if this is due to poor or lack of maintance, or high milage. The problems seem to happen way before a vehicle of this cost and preceived quality should start having problems, to a system that affects it's safe operation. Some have occured during the warranty period. I can only speak for my van, but it has been serviced by a Honda dealer since new. I hope human life does not have to be lost or serious injury occur before this on going problem is resolved. Honda knows they have a problem if they will not do the right thing, then somebody needs to make them, and fix the power steering pumps.

30 Steering problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2011

Tl- the contact owns a 2007 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that while traveling 35 mph, the contact drove through a puddle of water. The battery light illuminated and the vehicle also became extremely difficult to steer. The vehicle was able to be driven to the contact's destination. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 30,000 and the current mileage was 47,461. Kmj.

31 Steering problem

Failure Date: 08/06/2011

Vehicle failed safety inspection because power steering is ineffective at low speeds. My daughter is learning to drive, and we cannot let her use the vehicle since she cannot control the steering while moving below 5 miles per hour. This problem is detailed in 2 Honda technical service bulletins 07-005 and 10-076, but Honda appears to be reluctant to admit a problem to customers.

32 Steering problem

Failure Date: 07/07/2011

2007 Honda Odyssey ex power steering loss at low speeds (less than 10mph) especially when pulling in/out of a parking spot or doing a 3-point turn. Also humming can be heard when steering at low speeds but it went away after I took the van to the dealership for the 60,000 mile scheduled maintenance service. I guess when they flushed the steering fluid and replaced it with new one it fixed the humming problem, but not the loss of power. There are a lot of complaints about this and I don't understand why Honda is not doing anything to fix the problem. I also had several recalls fixed recently but none of them is about the steering problem.

33 Steering problem

Failure Date: 06/25/2011

Hard steering are slow speed requiring excessive effort to maneuver vehicle in close spaces.

34 Steering problem

Failure Date: 03/10/2011

Power steering very stiff both stationary and while in motion, especially when turning.

35 Steering problem

Failure Date: 02/18/2011

2007 Honda Odyssey has memory steer, after making a left hand turn the car pull dramatically to the left, this could possibly cause a head on collision with oncoming traffic. Had Honda dealer align, said the van is in all of Honda's specs and all front components are in good shape. This is a family car and I fear for the safty of my family while driving it. I understand that all cars have there issues but when it comes to the safty of the occupants or the public sharing the road this issue should be addressed and recalled. There are many complants of this found online (ex. Edmunds. Com town hall), it seems Honda is ignoring this issue and not taking into consideration the possible harm that can be caused.
