36 Assist problem

Failure Date: 01/23/2024

The vehicle has multiple warning lights and a recall was issued for the most connectors upon the initial problem which fixed it temporarily and now it continues to have multiple problems. It shuts off while I'm driving and the steering wheel locks up. It's as if the car is possessed the system screams at you, goes black, turns the music off and on. I have had it at the Honda twice and am taking it again in the morning. I'm afraid to drive my children in it.

37 Assist problem

Failure Date: 11/17/2023

The electrical system has some weird glitch where it will shut down all the displays and more. The nav display as well as the speedometer area will shut down and restart. I will receive warning lights that many systems like the lane keeping assistant and accident braking mitigation systems are offline. Sometimes it will kill the engine too. This is very disturbing and unsafe to happen when driving. It could cause an accident on its own and also negates the extra safety features like lkas added to make the van safer to drive. The problem was assessed by Honda and they said they could not find an issue originally. There were no codes. Now I am getting more problems and warnings. The dash now tells me "engine management system malfunction". Honda reset this since they could not find a service code. It came back within a week and then my power steering started messing up. It seemed to be when the system was overloaded by going into reverse and switching to the backup camera. The power steering would lurch and stutter. This is very concerning to go out while driving. The final straw is now my high-pressure fuel pump has gone out causing a loud noise under the hood. My vehicle only has 120,000 which I feel is not that old for a Honda. Honda has the van today and wants $1200 to swap out the fuel pump and now they say the "power distribution module" is causing all the electrical problems which is another $700. My question is this all connected to the same electrical issue? note: I have a suspicion that the problems are worse when the car gets too much stimulus in the electrical system. Sometimes it seems like the sun at the right angle blinds the front cameras and the system freaks out. Also, changing to reverse and activating the backup camera tends to cause the problem. Possibly even adding devices with carplay could exacerbate it.

38 Assist problem

Failure Date: 09/06/2023

Appears the front radar system fails causing all safety features that rely on data from that radar to also fail, causing a high potential for safety related incident due to reliance on these safety features.

39 Assist problem

Failure Date: 01/18/2023

The power tailgate on my 2018 Honda Odyssey ex-l started opening and closing on its own, seemingly at random. The latch would not cinch and the gauge cluster reported an opening attempt while driving on the highway. This failure cascaded and ended up bringing every device on the b-can network down, including the instrument cluster, heated seats, power sliding doors, adas systems including fcw/ldw/lka and various telltales and buttons on the dash. Upon disassembly of the interior to expose the affected controllers, I discovered that the power tailgate controller was full of water. There was enough water in it to cause arcing of the power and can terminals. I traced the ingress path upwards and discovered a crack in the seam sealer on the roof, underneath the left roof rack rail at the very rear of the vehicle. Water enters under the roof rail, drips down the door hinge, then drips down the body to the cup holder and directly into the controller. To remediate I had to replace the damaged controller and apply seam sealer underneath the roof rail at a cost of approximately $200. I called the local dealer to attempt to report this to Honda but was unable to find the appropriate person. Over a dozen people have reported this issue online and there are pictures of the issue. I posted pictures to one of the links referenced below and have additional pictures. I believe this is a manufacturing defect and not caused by age or use of the vehicle and there is strong evidence it affects a lot of people. The issue will be particularly prevalent when the vehicle is parked outside on a downward incline. I work in a related industry on embedded devices that must meet functional safety standards, and I believe an issue like this would lead to a mandatory safety recall. . Read more...

40 Assist problem

Failure Date: 09/24/2022

While attempting to cross a road the vehicle suddenly stopped accelerating. This happened after entering the roadway with heavy traffic and my family in the vehicle, I pressed the accelerator pedal all the way down nothing. Then after a brief 5sec of fear the vehicle jerks into gear making everyone slam back into their seats. This has been reported by many owners on various forums, some of which were in accidents. This will not end well for a few drivers and their families. Honda technicians try and diagnosing this with no luck, said” I’ve never seen this issue, 64k miles great condition no damages to the transmission core unfortunately we are 4k miles over warranty!? at here is a recall for very similar issues same vf 9 speed transmission but my VIN didn’t fall under the recall, american Honda said they weren’t going to help because I didn’t have “customer loyalty” I’m asking the technician to dissemble the transmission and take a bunch of pictures to try and help explain how this happened and how to avoid this from happening again because next time we may not be so luck.

41 Assist problem

Failure Date: 01/25/2021

Land departure system is automatically activated, but not turned on. Periodically, even when not leaving the lane, system overrides my actions. Rather frightful when unaware as to what is going on. It felt like a tug-of-war. This occurred while driving on two lane roads.
