While driving down the interstate going between 55-60 mph van began to downshift and rpm’s started rising but gas pedal didn’t accelerate. Then the next day I got stranded on a highway because the van locked into neutral before I could pull into a parking lot because of traffic, then it finally went into park(we were trying to get it back in drive obviously). I was stuck blocking traffic for almost an hour with 3 kids and an infant in the car. Finally, restarting it several times worked and I was able to pull in and wait for a tow truck. This almost happened on the interstate. Someone is going to be seriously injured or worse because we almost were. Honda I supposed to be known for safety but right now, I may just switch to Toyota because apparently this issue is known and they just don’t care enough about their customers to recall and fix it.

The transmission on this van has acceleration issues. When trying to accelerate the van will on occasion have hesitation of a few seconds. This has left me in situations when merging where I have almost been hit. The acceleration at times is not responsive. I’ve noticed it when trying to apply urgent acceleration, such as trying to cross an intersection, and when I accelerate a little, let off the gas, and accelerate again. A google search finds many people with the same issue. This is a major safety concern since the van does not apply acceleration when expected and can leave a person vulnerable to being hit. This has been happening to me for years but I didn’t know I could report this. Happened today.

Honda Odyssey 2019 slips during highway speed and has no acceleration while the engines rpm goes up. Very dangerous at highway speed and then will have a large clank noise and go into gear. Honda doesn't acknowledge the issue with their 9 speed transmission but their are tons of complaints on the web with the same issue I have. It happens at lower speed too at stop lights and is a safety concern for me when my wife is driving out children around.

Vehicle jerks at about 25mph when it’s idled in 1-2rpm. Sometime at acceleration and won’t move up rpm. Vehicle got fuel injectors and transmission fluid replaced and still have issues. Vehicle in shop now with less then 2,000k before power train warranty up even though I’ve been dealing with it for over a year. Dealer said transmission fluid was down quart 4 months after they changed the transmission fluid. They were able to replicate jerk but couldn’t replicate sound of something clicking over while idle. I have it on video. I think since Honda never fixed the issue in the first place it caused additional damage and all the want to do is add more fluid and call it a day.

Sudden loss of acceleration/unpredictable acceleration: pressed accelerator to enter highway from rolling stop going around 10-20mph. Zf 9-speed transmission hesitated, attempted to downshift & vehicle suddenly lost transmission & possibly went into neutral and/or transmission failed on highway. Dashboard indicated emissions system problem" & "transmission problem" vehicle would not shift back into gear & vehicle was subsequently towed. Prior to this event, vehicle had occasional 0. 5 - 2 second hesitations when downshifting & exhibited rare occasional metal clanking sounds when downshifting beginning around 70,000 miles. Additionally. Transmission had unpredictable significantly delayed shifts that resulted in subsequent surges of power that were enough to screech the tires on acceleration.

The transmission slips or doesn't engage appropriately. The van lurches forward at intersections and slips, pauses with a loud clunking noise at lower gears when driving in town. This morning, I attempted to cross a double highway. . . Pressed the accelerator, nothing happened, then the vehicle lurched forward, stopped again, then lurched forward again all with the accelerator pressed down. I was almost hit broadside while crossing the highway. This is not the first time this has occurred. Multiple people in our household drive this vehicle and all have reported the same concern. I've asked about this every time I get routine maintenance but Honda dealership says it's working as designed and they've witnessed this issue in other customer reports. This is a significant safety risk!.

Driving on highway suddenly multiple warnings ?? lights on (about 10) warnings lights like check engine, transmission system, power steering system brake assist ,holding brake system, line departure assistance, hill assistance, emission system, acc system, vas system, blind spot assistance and lack of power hitting gas (accelerate pedal) no response car slow down by itself becomes 20mph on 55mph highway very scary this happened four times in one month.

Vehicle will "neutral out" on acceleration and make a whizzing noise. This occurs every time we drive this vehicle. It loses a great deal of power when this happens and feels like it is never going to regain speed. Finally, after 5-10 seconds it goes back it to gear but not before you almost get rear ended.

The car failed to start several times, and then it fell out of drive completely while I was driving down the street with my child in the car. Fortunately I was only on side streets where the speed limit was low because the car just stopped working about five times in one city block. I hate to think what would have happened if I was on a highway at higher speeds. We had the car towed to the Honda dealership closest to us. They handled about 7 different recalls on the van and didn’t at first identify any serious problem as it didn’t abruptly stop when they drove it around their block. However, when I stopped in and described the issue, they test drove it again. They couldn’t get it to start and then it stopped abruptly on them when they drove it a bit more. There is a recall that has to do with seizing up and not starting and stopping abruptly but my local folks say that this seems like a transmission issue and not the issue with the same symptoms that are listed in the existing recall. Could they be mistaken or could these two issues be related since this existing recall is so new that they haven’t alerted owners yet? they still have my car and say that it is not drivable.

The Odyssey has progressively started to shift harder and harder between 2nd and 3rd gears which matches up with what others have stated about its zf 9-speed transmission problems (ours is an ex-l with the zf 9-speed). It has been serviced at a Honda dealer and there are no open recalls on it at the moment.

Driving down the road and vehicle suddenly switches out of gear into neutral. Very dangerous situation. Another time we’re driving at 45mph and the vehicle suddenly starts flashing 3 error codes and decelerating. We have to continue to drive 45 mph with the car sounding terrible all the way home. Once home the vehicle somehow resets itself and all of the flashing lights turn off.

Transmission has completely died. We were traveling on vacation when this happened. Started with very rough gear shifting. Our safety was at risk because random warnings then came up on the screen such as cruise control not working, brake assist. Car would not drive normal. Check engine light never came on. The car was towed to the local Honda dealership who confirmed it needs a new transmission. We just purchased this car 3 months ago. They inspected it before selling and stated everything was fine.

The vehicle's transmission has been continously shifting erratically, where shift intervals do not correspond with engine speed and or vehicle speed. The pattern is so erratic that the transmission causes a very strong jolting or surging motion and loud thudding sound. I have checked on fluid level and found the level within required standards. I bought the vehicle on 7/13/2023. The dealer never disclosed any transmission issues. I have been observing this issue from 7/18/2023 to the present. It has since, been progressively constant and is a safety issue, where the vehicle could break down when operated in high traffic areas that require speeds up to 65 mph. Collisions due to stalling or surging from this vehicle would be catastrophic and include multiple deaths or injury.

Brakes: there are several manufacturer communications on investigating brake vibration/judder, but it seems nothing has come from it. I have noticed this problem since owning the vehicle. The problem typically happens when on a downhill slope. Even light and smooth application of the brakes will cause a judder. It feels as if the brakes are being pumped on/off resulting in inconsistent braking action, but the pedal is held steady. It is an alarming feeling, but I can guarantee it will happen on a specific hill as I turn into my neighborhood. Another driver complained of the same downhill braking concern. It is something I have learned to live with, but that shouldn’t be the case. Why is there a feeling of brake pressure release and reengaging with a steady brake pedal? maybe it’s the transmission causing it…: transmission: the software with this 9 speed transmission is abysmal. The tech bulletin that was posted merely resets the software. What we need is a software update, or better yet, a removal of the “adaptation to customer’s driving pattern. ” you know what changes? my driving pattern. And my wife’s, who also drives the car. You know how a car should adjust its shift points? the accelerator depression and rate of depression! this transmission feels like it is about to fall out of the bottom of the car on multiple occasions. I’ve never driven a car with a worse automatic transmission shift response. My first automatic was a 1985. Not only does it sound like internal damage to the transmission during hard shift, but many times it leads to poor response to move the vehicle away from traffic. Variable cylinder management (vcm), has a high chance of causing significant damage to power train components with a negligible return in fuel economy. Thanks, Honda…eyeroll.

What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? I believed the spark plug or the condense coil has an issue with my vehicle. The engine lose power at stop when I stepped on the accelerate pedal the car takes about 2 seconds idling then speed up suddenly. I am not a mechanic. Therefore, I am not so sure. It's available for inspection. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? misfire of the car can be a serious issue on the road which put the driver safety at risk. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? no has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? no were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? no.

I was driving my vehicle, slowing down to turn left, when my car shifted into neutral all by itself. The satellite radio went off and the collision warning appeared on the dash. This could have happened on the highway and I could be dead. I called the markley Honda dealership here in fort collins however their service department was closed for the day. I plan on calling them first thing Monday morning. Also, the heated seat problem appeared on the dash 5 days ago and it works just fine.

The van had 75k miles and would lose propulsion on the highway with no warning and no dash light coming on. Van would slow way down causing other drivers to hard brake behind us, then finally go back into gear and drive like nothing happened, couple days later the same thing would happen. We took it to Honda and said the transmission will need to be replaced.

This is for the 9 speed transmission. Frequent erratic shifting first and/or possibly second gears. Engine revolutions increase and then gear engages with lurch or tire sqweek. One incident (and only one) of unintended acceleration after mid-range gear change on expressway without cruise control active or foot on gas pedal. Occasional clunk noise at mid-range shift. I do not use econ mode. I have never used the paddle shifters. 2019 Honda Odyssey ex, currently about 27k miles. The vehicle is operated above 5k feet altitude and frequently above 9k feet altitude. Often in the same day. At last dealer visit, service tech indicated that there were no recalls or bulletins. The transmission was not serviced. My next transmission service is recommended for 30k miles. I subsequently made local service rep aware of California based class action lawsuit for these issues and I was passed to service manager. He indicated that he has no fix. I called Honda corporate service and I disconnected the call when the representative asked for a detailed log of incidents, which I cannot provide. My last inquiry to local dealer service tech about installing the 10 speed transmission (available in a higher trim level in 2019) in place of the 9 speed has gone unanswered. I originally thought that these issues affected only my van until I read about other experiences on the internet. The unintended acceleration concerns me.

Driving at slow speeds through a neighborhood (20-25mph), my car seemed like it tried to change gears and it downshifted and lurched us forward. It was as if I slammed on the brakes almost causing us to get rear ended. This lurching has happened many times and is now an unavoidable event. From my research this is a common problem!.

After driving for over 20 minutes this occurred. Driving down the highway my car had transmission code alert lost speed had to pull over. Turned off car then back on still had alert. For safety reasons I had to drive the car off highway with rmps going up as I drive. I had the car towed to a Honda dealership who said dead batter which erased codes and sensor was changed. Got the car back and I had an incident trying to cross traffic where I stepped on gas and it would not go at a normal speed until loud shift and it kicks in. Then another incident driving down highway in atlanta traffic. Been driving for over an hour, took my foot off the gas due to construction. When I pressed the gas again no gas/speed. The speed kept dropping. No alerts. Speed dropped to 40mph then a loud shift sound and the car started to regain speed. I am very concerned for my safety. Went back to Honda dealership and they are telling me nothings wrong with the car and no codes.

On Sunday while driving on north gayton road at 45 mph the car started making a terrible sound almost like one makes when overheating and there was a popping type sound. I looked at the dash and it showed a large red "p" which I initially thought was an error code of sometype. I quickly pulled over into the next available turn and noticed when I stopped that the electronic gear shift was in park and not drive. That was what the big red "p" was on the dash. It had tried to shift into park while we were driving. It scared us to death. It has had other minor erratic electrical type problems. The flashers will suddenly be on when no one was near that button, or we will be driving down the road on a bright clear day and the wipers will come on briefly and then usually turn off after a few wipes. I do not know if it is the prom, or the computer, or a short somewhere. This morning it says the battery is low, but it is a brand new battery. We have 67196 miles on the car.

Has known, but unresolved, 9-speed transmission problem. Occasionally, unexpectedly on take-off engine revs up before engaging first gear resulting in tire squeal and leap forward. This could, and probably will, result in a collision with car in front at stop signs for I. E. !!!! please hold Honda responsible for resolving this dangerous situation. Keep me posted of any corrective actions, recalls, notifications, etc. Thank you very much.

Hesitation of the transmission, the car doesn't go or hesitates. According to the dealership this is "normal" for this type of transmission. This is not normal for a vehicle and if this is "normal" for this type of transmission, there is something wrong with it. I've been lucky that an accident hasn't occurred, but I've been scared it would on multiple occasions. This happens typically in stop and go traffic.

While driving, if I don't make a complete stop (say at a yield sign), and I accelerate, there is a 1-2 second gap between when I press the pedal and the van actually goes. This can happen while fully stopped, while yielding, or even while getting onto the highway. Taking it back to the dealer has yielded only firmware upgrades to the software and recommending a $400 transmission flush. This happens more frequently while in economy mode, but also happens in sport mode. This has been going on for about a year now. The dealer has stated there is nothing wrong with the vehicle, but if I ever have to suddenly accelerate it could mean I will get into an accident.

The contact owns a 2019 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that while pulling out onto the roadway, the accelerator pedal was released and then depressed and the vehicle suddenly stalled. After waiting for several seconds with the accelerator pedal depressed to the floorboard, the vehicle jerked and then move forward. The contact stated that several times the brake pedal had to be depressed several times. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact had taken the vehicle to the dealer who was unable to diagnose the vehicle. The vehicle had not been repaired. The failure persisted while driving at various speeds. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 4,000.

I have had my 2019 Honda Odyssey in for transmission problems on 3 occasions. The first two times were because of rough shifting with clunking and jerking when upshifting. The mechanic drove with me and after several upshifts with jerking and clunking did, finally, admit that it was rough upshifting. However, when I picked up the vehicle, I was told that nothing was wrong, but that they did download some software to help. I did not help. They said they couldn't address transmission problems unless the failure was experienced by their mechanics. A month later, I was driving about 60-65 mph, on a local highway, in heavy traffic, when the transmission slipped back to a low gear and stuck there with the engine racing. There was nowhere to turn off and cars and trucks were honking at me as I tried to pull over. (it was a very dangerous situation and my handicapped husband was with me. We were both very scared. )I was finally able to pull over into a parking area. But the car wouldn't shift down to neutral when I came to a stop. I called the Honda dealer and asked if I should have it towed there. He said, "no, when this happens, just turn off the engine and then turn it back on again and see what happens. " I did and the transmission acted normally again. I took it into the dealer the next day. They gave me a rental car so they could check it overnight, but returned it to me saying that they detected nothing wrong. I told them that there was something very wrong with the transmission and that I was reluctant to drive it. They replied that nothing could be done unless they witnessed the failure firsthand. . . . The frantic phone call I made for help didn't count as evidence. I think they are hoping my warranty expires before the transmission goes. . . . And it will go!.

My van regularly hesitates from the stopped position. This often causes a safety hazard when turning right into traffic or making a left turn because I am not able to accelerate for several seconds and the vehicle feels as if it is stalling out. It is a known mechanical defect with Honda and they do not currently have a resolution. When reported, I was told the mechanical system defects to switching through all the gears before accelerating, causing the delay. I have brought the car into the dealership once regarding the issue and have been dealing with Honda headquarters with no resolution. Not only does this cause performance issues, there have been several close calls when I try to accelerate entering highway or making sharp turns.

The contact owns a 2019 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that while at an intersection making a left turn the vehicle wouldn't move, the contact had to wait about 3-4 seconds and push on the gas a little then the vehicle would independently accelerate. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 34,186.

Car has 22,000 miles. And has intermittent transmissions issues. After a stop, I accelerated thru and intersection then when I pulled my foot off the gas to slow down the car engine revved up so loud, really loud. But there was no movement. Also coming off of a stop the car doesn’t go sometimes. I have to push the gas more. If I’m on the freeway at high speeds and I release the gas because I know the traffic is slowing up ahead. The car will shift down loudly and sometimes jerk.
