Honda Odyssey owners have reported 10 problems related to accelerator pedal (under the vehicle speed control category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Honda Odyssey based on all problems reported for the Odyssey.
I was traveling at about 60 mph in the far left lane on 490 w in rochester NY on Saturday may 12, 2007 when I felt the accelerator pulled away from my foot. The car proceed to accelerate on its own. I looked at the dash to see if the cruise-control had somehow come on but it had not. I then tapped the brake to see if the acceleration would back off. It did not and I was now moving at about 80 mph with the engine revving over 5000 rpms . I proceed to apply the brake very hard with one feet and then both feet to prevent from driving into the back of the cars in front of me. I was literally standing on the brake with both feet to try to negate some of the speed. The car was going over 90 mph when I was able to pull over to the right side of the rode and drive off the road. Once I got to the shoulder, I jammed the car into neutral and the engine made a loud grinding noise for a period as I continued speeding down the shoulder. It finally stopped revving ,and I was then able to stop and put the vehicle in park. My husband reported to me that a similar thing happened to him last week when backing out of the driveway. The flat bed driver reported to the dealer that the vehicle speedometer read 40 mph when he was driving the vehicle onto the flat bed, yet the vehicle was not going that fast.

I had notice the accelarator pedal giving a jerky movement and car starting after hesititing for a few seconds since day 1 whenever I acclerate. This is continuing to happen and occurs more frequently when there is rain or snow.

Gas pedal stuck on a very cold day (~10 f). My wife complained that the pedal could not be pushed down at all; she finally got it to move after about 10 minutes of trying. Because we can back down our driveway without pushing on the gas, she didn't notice until the car was already in the street.
Throttle sticks when applying pressure. The van will accelerate after applying additional pressure, but it is not a smooth acceleration. Result is going from 0 mph to 20 mph without gradual acceleration. Throttle has been cleaned in the past, but the problem continues to worsen. Dealer recommends complete break down of throttle with butterfly valve being cleaned.

Gas pedal sticks when proceeding from stop or accelerating from slow (under 20mph) speeds. Pressing gas pedal with more force frees it up and causes the vehicle to lurch forward. This lack of sensitivity in accelerator modulation has resulted in a few near crashes. Dealer worked on accelerator on two previous occasions.

2000 Honda Odyssey. Throttle has become difficult to depress during initial acceleration. This problem causes unexpected rates of acceleration. Very dangerous when driving in pedestrian areas such as school and shopping parking lots. Dealer has acknowledged problem and cleaned throttle body. Problem returned within 5000 miles. Dealer now wants to replace throttle body.
Gas pedal was stuck in position and then suddenly released, propelling auto very quickly in reverse.

Intermittently throttle sticks when decelerating. Dealer has cleaned throttle body. However, throttle still sticks. Consumer has since returned to dealer on two occasions, they have ordered a replacement throttle assembly.
The accelerator pedal, within the first couple inches of its travel, sticks so that when you try to gently accelerate, you are forced to apply excessive pressure to get past the "sticking point" causing the car to charge forward. Dealer has already removed carbon deposits from throttle body (1/11/01), but problem is now back and is slowly getting worse. I am concerned that unintended acceleration and/or loss of control could result from this problem.
With vehicle stopped (as at a stop sign or at a red light), when accelerator is depressed, engine revs up but vehichle hesistates. Then ,transmission engages suddenly and vehichle lurches forward. The intensity was anywhere from a moderate bump, to enough to cause the tires to "squeal" and loose traction. This happened several times before we got the vehichle to the dealer for service; we just began to describe the problem when they said it would need a new transmission, as if they had seen the problem many times before. When questioned they denied there was a problem with Odyssey transmissions, although they did say that their Odyssey shuttlevan (same yr/model) had the transmission replaced the prior week. While conducting a search on the internet, we found dozens of instances of Odyssey transmission failures, all with replacement of the entire transmission as the remedy. While in our case this was done under warranty at no charge, we are concerned that this is a systemic problem that can easily lead to a traffic accident.
