Two separate instances have occurred, both at slow speeds, around 5 mph, my van suddenly accelerated, and after putting it in neutral and punching the pedal down, it returned to normal rpms. A little unsettling, especially if the driver panics.

When my wife was turning 90 degrees into a parking stall at 5 mph, the van suddenly accelerated at such a rate that the van smashed into a brick wall in front of the stall. It hit with enough impact that it made a loud enough noise that other parked drivers looked over to see what happened and my van has visible scrapes on the front from the impact.
Vehicle unexpectedly accelerated while braking. Acceleration continued after vehicle was brought to a stop. This happened 3 or 4 times in a span of 30 minutes. Foot was not on accelerator. Driven by adult male.

The problem that created the unsafe condition was unintentional spontaneous acceleration while depressing the brake to complete the stop while parking the vehicle. The vehicle 2008 Odyssey was going very slow (just made a right turn on road) in a residential area, for the house we were visiting was on the corner. We then turned another right to park in a private parking area. Immediately before coming to a complete stop, the vehicle lurches forward while the engine was revving and sounding very loud. While depressing the brake all the way down, the vehicle accelerates (lurches) forward while immediately going over a railroad tie (about 7 inches high), going up in the air (almost rolling), then striking a tree which slowed the car down. Despite depressing the brake, the Odyssey kept revving and thrusting forward even after striking the tree. The impact of hitting the tree was very hard, and the accident left 2 of the passengers with seatbelt imprints on the neck and chest. The minivan finally stopped because the damage was severe, including a burning smell and fluid leakage from the car. We had to have the car towed and got word that our Odyssey was totaled. The airbags did not deploy.

The contact owns a 2014 Honda Odyssey. While driving approximately 5 mph attempting to park, the accelerator pedal was depressed and the vehicle spontaneously accelerated over the parking spot, sideswiped a building, and drove over some shrubs. The contact had to switch the vehicle into neutral and then shut off the vehicle. A police report was filed and there were no injuries. The contact stated that this was the third time the failure occurred. The vehicle was towed to the dealer (harbor Honda in merrilville, indiana) and a field investigator from headquarters came to diagnose the vehicle. No defects were found. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 20,000.

The contact engaged the parking brake and was able to stop the vehicle gradually. The vehicle was towed to an independent dealer where the mechanic was unable to duplicate the failure. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 160,000.
The contact owns a 2016 Honda Odyssey. While driving 45 mph, the vehicle would rapidly accelerate without warning. In addition, the vehicle would abnormally accelerate when the brake pedal was depressed. The contact had to apply extreme force to the brake pedal in order to stop. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that there was no failure with the vehicle. The failure recurred several other times. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 812.

I was in my driveway, stopped, getting ready to pull in to the garage. I had stopped with my foot on the brake pedal, and then I pressed the button to open the garage door and waited for the garage door to go up. While the garage door was starting to go up and the brake pedal was still pressed, the car suddenly, unintentionally, unexpectedly accelerated by itself into the garage door causing the windshield to break on the garage door and the garage door to break off of its tracks. It is unknown the component or system that caused the sudden unexpected acceleration. It could have been the engine, fuel/propulsion system, or speed control. But something caused a sudden unexpected acceleration while the brake pedal was applied.

Sudden, uncontrolled acceleration of the engine: three times within the last week our 2007 Honda Odyssey started rapidly accelerating (rev-ing) while I was applying brakes as I was coming to a stop sign. I avoided a possible accident by applying stiff braking pressure while rapidly putting the car in park and then turning off the engine. Only after I turned off the ignition did the car stop rev-ing. That seemed to fix it the first and second time because when I turned the car back on again, it behaved normally for the rest of the trip. The third time it happened as I was slowing and coming to a stop behind another car, and after I had turned off the ignition, it starting reving again just as soon as the engine started. So I turned it off again and counted to ten, and then it started normally. I took it to the dealer and they cannot find anything wrong. They say it might be something to do with the throttle body (whatever that is) and they say they opened it up and cleaned it out, but really couldn't say what might have caused it. This is really scary because if I hadn't been able to react quickly and apply stiff braking pressure, I could have continued into traffic where I almost certainly would have been hit by cross traffic (the first two times) or would have run into the car that was stopped ahead of me (this last time). (by "rev-ing" I mean the engine is racing, I. E. , making lots of revolutions per minute. As if the driver was stepping on the accelerator pedal. ).
I drove my Honda minivan for 10 years and one day I was pulling into a parking space at work and when I stepped on the brake to slow down the car, it suddenly accelerated so fast that it hit the wall and set off the air bag. The car was totaled and I had burns from the the airbag on my neck and arm.

Traveling in motion at 40mph than a sudden acceleration of engine and speed. Very difficult to stop with brakes. Honda Odyssey was put on neutral than brakes were applied to stop vehicle. My vehicle was on a secondary rode at the time of sudden acceleration. We called aaa to pick up our Honda Odyssey and took it to our local mechanic for the rest of the day.
Tl - the contact owns a 2014 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that while driving 30 mph changing from a paved to an unpaved lane, the brake pedal sank to the floor and the vehicle suddenly accelerated. The vehicle was shifted into park and turned off. After restarting the engine, the vehicle resumed normal operation. The vehicle was towed to the dealer. The technician was unable to diagnose the failure. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 38,000. Pm.
After making a right turn after a full stop, I accelerated to about 5 mph and was about to park (less than 20ft from stop sign) when the vehicle suddenly accelerated to a high speed. I was unable to break after repeatedly applying pressure on the brake pedal. I was unable to avoid a head on collision. Airbags deployed including the side bags next to my 6 year old son. The vehicle was purchased 2 months ago from grossinger Honda on western Ave. In chicago, a certified Honda dealer.
I was pulling into a parking spot. I was approximately 3-4 feet from the curb in front of me. My foot was on the brake and I was slowing to a stop when the van suddenly accelerated extremely rapidly (and was not responsive to brake application ) and slammed into the curb in front of me, causing minor damage to the front end. I verified that the floor mats were not near the accelerator.
The contact owns a 2007 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that while traveling various speeds, the vehicle erroneously accelerated as the vsa warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was found that there were cracks in the radiator that affected the engine temperature and caused the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted about the failure. The failure mileage was 48,000.
The contact owns a 2013 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that while entering a residential garage, the vehicle surged and rapidly accelerated independently. This vehicle usually surges while moving slowly in a line of traffic. It doesn't happen all the time but it makes for very nervous driving because it will continue happening until I'm away from other traffic and moving at a normal speed. It will also happen when I turn into a parking area which requires going up an incline. If it's very steep , I may spin my tires not expecting the sudden acceleration. This surge seems to me as if the carburetor fuel bowl is empty while idling and when it refills, by my pressing on the gas pedal, it causes the car to lunge ahead. I have asked my local Honda dealer if he has a solution to this hazard and have been told that this something that the " Honda manufacturer has installed" and that my complaint is not the first they have heard of this happening. If this is true and I doubt it, then I feel I can't let my wife drive the car and I don't feel at all safe driving it in traffic. Please let me know what can be done to correct this ASAP. I purchased this car used in sept. / 13 and wasn't told of anything wrong. I was advised to use chevron for the next fill-up. It didn't improve and I tried injector fluids with no improvement. I'm quite sure the selling dealer wont give me satisfaction especially since there was a trade-in involved.

I entered a highway and was accelerating to a speed of approx. 35 mph when the vehicle suddenly decelerated, as if the brakes had been slammed on, causing me to lurch forward, triggering the seat belts to tighten. I maintained steering control, removed my foot from the gas pedal, then suddenly the vehicle accelerated rapidly without my pressing on the gas pedal. This happened four times within approximately 60 seconds. I'm stating this mildly when I say the experience was terrifying. I pulled over, turned the car off, and called our mechanic who advised I slowly and safely drive the van to the shop, which wasn't too far away, or consider having it towed. I chose to drive slowly to the mechanics and the problem did not occur again. Upon diagnostic testing, our mechanic said it was a steering sensor that lost its memory and needed reset, an easy fix and that while this problem is rare, it's not unheard of, yet it shouldn't happen again. (we had recently had new tires installed prior to this event, the mechanic suspected that while the tires were being changed, the sensor's memory must have been wiped. ) the second event was this past wed. , oct. 2, the same experience as before happened again. Only on this occasion, our mechanic's diagnostic testing did not provide a code as it had before, but recognizing the complaint, they reset the sensor again. In both events, the roads were dry, clear weather, we were driving on new tires and at low speeds, having just moments before turned on the ignition and begun accelerating. We are now being told that our vehicle has two broken motor mounts. We highly suspect this is due to the sudden jerking back and forwards from this involuntary deceleration/acceleration issue; it's an expensive repair! Honda needs to recall this model and get a fix ASAP. We are thankful this hasn't caused an accident--yet. Bought this van used in 2010.

Honda Odyssey 2007. Sudden unintended acceleration. While approaching at about 5mph to a stop sign with a stopped vehicle before me, I applied the brake but rather than stopping, the car lurched and the tachometer rose to >2000. I kept my foot down and applied more force on the brake and the car then came to full stop. This is very disconcerting. We bought this vehicle new and after ~ 15000 miles, the car vibrated excessively while traveling at 60-70 mph. Per repair shops, all four tires were "deformed" and cannot be repaired and needed to be replaced.
My 2002 Honda oddysey had sudden unintended accelerated twice this year. Both of them occurred when I stopped it on a red light. About 5 seconds, it accelerated by itself, and stopped for about 1. 5 second. I beleived this is a very dangerous failure that will lead to an accedent and human safety. I called a local Honda dealer and asked if he was aware of the problem, or if there was a recall associated with this problem. He said he's not aware of that, and nothing he could do. So now I hope the NHTSA is aware about this and passes this message to the Honda company. [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
2009 Honda Odyssey Mini van was crashed by hitting a concrete block in the parking building with an unintended sudden acceleration. When the car parked into a spot, the car needed to readjust its position in parallel to the parking line. Thus the driver changed to a rear mode and then suddenly heard very loud sound and the Mini van drove very fast to the front direction and hit the concrete block. The brake did not work until it hit the block. The driver, my wife, had a minor injury of seat belt mark on her chest. The front car was damaged severely. It was so dangerous if the parking building did not have a thick concrete block. If not, the car should jump over to the lower floor and my wife could get killed. This car towed to Honda dealers body shop yesterday. Please investigate this case. The parking building: edward hospital, naperville, IL
we asked hospital security if there was a cctv in the parking building. Unfortunately there was no cctv in the parking building.

The contact owns a 2002 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that while driving in reverse the vehicle suddenly accelerated out of the driveway across a two lane road, over a curb and into a neighbors yard where it crashed into a tree. There were no injuries. The police were not notified. The contact was able to continue driving the vehicle and it functioned normally. A month later she was driving into a parking space with a sidewalk in front of it when the vehicle accelerated again without driver intent. When the vehicle accelerated onto an elevated sidewalk, the vehicle stopped accelerating. No injuries were reported and there was no police involvement. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who stated that they test drove the vehicle and there was nothing wrong with it. Honda was notified and stated that they trust their mechanics at the service centers; therefore, there was nothing wrong with the vehicle and offered no other options or solutions. She called the dealer again and told them that there was a failure and asked them to inspect the vehicle thoroughly. On July 27, 2010 the dealer stated again that nothing was wrong with the vehicle and it was driver error. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 57,000. The current mileage was approximately 60,000.
I have just bought a 2010 Honda Odyssey on October 16, 2009. On January 16, 2010, I was driving in new york city traffic stopped at a light behind several cars. Suddenly the car's engine started to race and lurched forward even with my foot on the brake. For several seconds the car kept lurching forward as I tried to step down on the brake even harder. As suddenly the unintended acceleration stopped. I came within inches of crashing into the car in front of me. I have four passengers in the car who witnessed this event at the time.

Mary (my wife) was parallel parking our 2002 Honda Odyssey ex-l in downtown appleton, WI. She had pulled next to the car in front of the space she was going to use. She shifted the car in to reverse and began to turn her head to check benind her when the vehicle suddenly accelerated in reverse at very high speed, jumped the curb and crashed into a building. Fortunately nobody was on the sidewalk but the building and vehicle sustained substantial damage. She is certain she did not depress the accelerator and that the vehicle did this "on it's own". The vehicle is currently at gustman Honda where it is being inspected. Preliminary reports from the dealership indicate that they cannot find any computer or mechanical defects that would have caused this unintended acceleration. We are extremely nervous about driving the car again, especially if they can't find anything and will likely be looking to purchase a different vehicle. 8jb.
