Honda Odyssey owners have reported 22 problems related to cruise control (under the vehicle speed control category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Honda Odyssey based on all problems reported for the Odyssey.
The vsa warning light keeps coming on along with an exclamation sign. It prevents acceleration and causes temporary loss of power while driving. Also, prevents use of cruise control. It temporarily resets when engine is turned off but then turns on again while driving. This occurs while vehicle is in motion on city streets as well as highways.

I was driving the car at 40 miles per hour on a back road without cruise control engaged. The road was one lane each direction, fully marked with lines, and gentle rolling hills. In a about mile long straight stretch I came upon a cyclist using the center of my lane and climbing one of the hills. I coasted a little bit slower and then moved fully into the oncoming lane to give the cyclist plenty of room. At this same time a car popped over the furthest visible hill a little less than mile away. At this moment the car stopped taking accelerator input. I was going up a hill next to a cyclist and losing speed rapidly. What should have been a pass with maybe 4 seconds to spare ended up being less than 2 seconds and a little frightening. I pulled in front of the cyclist much closer than I would have liked. Once I was back in the lane the car gave me control of the accelerator again. During the incident the were no warnings audible, visible, or haptic provided by the car. The only thing that was unusual was the engine going to idle and the accelerator not responding.

If acc (adaptive cruise control) is engaged (as well lkas -- I have not tested with acc alone) and the car goes down a hill (even with moderate slope), the brakes don't applied properly, and the car speed keeps on increasing violating the cruise control setting. At some point during the violation, the car even accelerates with the engine engaging in high rpm; I. E. , 100% opposite to supposed braking. For instance, let's say cruise control is at 45mph. The car keeps on increasing downhill till say 51mph, and then suddenly the engine goes to high rpm further accelerating the car dramatically!.
1. Starting in early July 2016, my Honda Odyssey began randomly accelerating on this own, without a human depressing the gas pedal. While in drive, the car accelerates on its own. 2. When this happens, I have to press extremely hard on the brake to get the vehicle to stop. Then, when I place the car in park, the rpm increases to between 5,ooo and 7,000. Again, this is without a human depressing the gas pedal. 3. This issue seems to occur when the air conditioning is turned on, and it feels like the cruise control system is taking over even though it's turned on. 4. This issue doesn't always happen immediately once the car is turned on. It sometimes takes a random amount of time to manifest itself while the car is being driven. 5. I've faced this issue at least 15 to 20 times over the past 2 months. 6. Obviously, this issue is extremely dangerous and may result in severe injury or death for the driver and other motorists. And therefore, it must be dealt with immediately. The Honda dealer said that there is nothing wrong, but only checked the vehicles cpu. This is insufficient because, as indicated above, the cpu will not register an issue in idle mode or when the problem isn't actually happening.

The contact owns a 2010 Honda Odyssey. While traveling at various speeds with the cruise control engaged, there was a sudden increase of engine rpms. After the brakes were applied, the cruise control failed to disengage. The contact had to apply both feet to the brake pedal in order to pull over to the side of the road where the vehicle was shut off. The vehicle was towed to a repair shop to inspect and diagnose the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 34,420.

Today Jan 2nd 2015 around 6:40am cst, my van engine suddenly made a loud noise with high acceleration. I was driving at the speed of 40 mile/hour where suddenly with acceleration it started increasing it speed from 40m/h to 45m/h, 50 m/h and that moment I was scared and afraid and wasn't sure what was going on as I was not driving my van in cruise control. It was very hard to break and I have to use my both the feet to break my van to bring to the complete stop. After stopping and putting my van in park, I turn off the engine wait for a minute and start the engine. Van started but as it was parked and it started accelerating and I was not able to put in drive gear. Transmission was completely lock. I called my insurance all state to arrange roadside assistance to tow my van to nearest Honda dealer. Currently it my van is at frank kent Honda dealer (34000 west loop 820 south, fort worth, TX 76116). This is very scary experience and I was driving alone at that time. I have family with 2 kids 9 & 6 year old and I am worried what might have happened if I was driving with my kids in freeway at the speed limit or in the busy street with heavy or freezing icy road. Anything might have happened and that makes me think that what NHTSA does to protect consumer, a family, a driver safety like me to protect and safeguard there life with not having proper safety standards in place to avoid this computer malfunction problem which I believe in my case. I don't want that NHTSA have to wait when many more incidence happens like this before taking any action. I want that NHTSA should take action right to work proactively to prevent this kind of incidence. I want to hear concrete answer and action taken against my complaint launch for both NHTSA and Honda. While driving at appoximately 60 mph without cruise control, the van decelerated to 20 mph on its own. The engine warning light came on. The vehicle was driven at 20mph for 1/4 mile and parked for 20 min. With the engine running; the van was then driven at speeds below 35 mph (engine light on), then increased to 50-60 mph for 6 miles when the deceleration reoccurred. The van was driven at 20 mph for 4 miles. Depressing the accelerator only increased the engine rpm, no velocity increase. The van was driven the next day at speeds below 45 mph (no engine light) with no problems. Problem codes identified as #2 & #6 spark plugs misfired (non-permanent). Honda service drove the van at 60 mph three different times for a total of 20 miles without any problems. The failure occurred after the van was driven 3000 interstate miles after NHTSA recall 13v500 (vsa) repair. The van has not been repaired--no known cause for the deceleration.
In March of this year, began new lease for 3rd Honda Odyssey after having two previous and loving them. On may 23rd, my van had no sound of left (driver's) side upon starting my vehicle. Problem resolved itself and has not reoccurred. Two days later, however, turn signals began malfunctioning with continuous blinking after being turned off. Van was looked at at dealership to no avail, as problems did not reoccur for them. On vacation, I was stranded with a broken fuel door and driver's side passenger door that was temp fixed by dealership there. On way home from vacation, cruise control intermittently did not respond correctly when in use in both the set and resume functions. Upon returning home, dealership fixed fuel and passenger doors, had van for a week to address issues that are more electrical/computer-related in nature, but could not replicate, nor isolate problems. Van returned to me with bluetooth connectivity issues. Turn signals and cruise control continue to malfunction, and driver's side passenger sliding door occasionally will not open all the way.

I was entering an interstate on a crowded day with construction cones on the side of the road. I had to accelerate quickly to get into a lane, and hit the gas pedal. I let up on the pedal once I was on the highway, but the pedal was stuck. I tried to pull it up, but it would not move. I could not get over, as the shoulder was blocked, so looked for an exit. I tried to shift into neutral, but it did not slow the car when I did. The only success I had at all in slowing the car (I was going 70mph when it stuck) was in holding the brakes, which I did. I finally saw an exit where I could get off, and I did, holding the brakes as hard as I could while throwing the car into park and killing the engine. It was only by turning the car off that I was able to stop it. When we started the van later, there was a horrible smell (probably the brakes), but the pedal came unstuck. My mechanic discovered that the cruise control had gotten stuck, and he disconnected it. It is the most terrifying car experience I have ever had, and I am only thankful that I was alone in the car, and not with my children. I was incredibly lucky, was completely traumatized, but have had to get over it because my job requires a great deal of driving. I don't trust my van, even though I know the cruise control is not connected. What else will it do now!? I have been unhappy with visibility in this van, already, and this confirms that I will never again purchase another one.

I was traveling on the interstate for about 1 hour when the vehicle went into a sudden acceleration with no input from me. The speed got past 75 when I disengaged the cruise control and hit the brake. The vehicle did slow down and when I reset the cruise control, it held speed. Just before this happened by about 20 minutes, I noticed that the speed I was traveling was slowly decreasing so I "bumped" up the speed with the "acc" button on the cruise control, nothing happened. So I bumped it up a few more times with no effect. I then came to an overpass bridge and the speed slowed down to 66 going up the bridge and when over the top, rapidly accelerated to 75mph, when I got to the bottom of the bridge and on flat highway, I was still traveling at 75. So it seems that the "system" knew that I was trying to bump up the speed but didn't react until I was over the bridge. I disengaged the cruise control and reset it and it held for 20 minutes before having the sudden acceleration, feeling like it downshifted and sped up rapidly (as if I was trying to pass someone). I took the vehicle to the Honda dealership to be checked and they said that they could not replicate the problem and that no codes were in the system. I feel that the sudden acceleration is somehow related to the cruise control as well as the non-reaction to my attempt at adjusting the speed.

I accelerated to pass a truck while on the pennsylvania turnpike. My accelerator stuck doing 60. I could not release it by stepping on break or pumping it. I noticed that my cruise control had turned itself on. I turned it off. I stood with all my weight on the brake and slowed down only marginally. I pulled on the emergency brake and slowed down to about 20, where I was able to throw it in park and stop. Fortunately, no one was hurt. I have no idea what caused the accelerator in my 2005 Honda Odyssey to stick. I didn't report to police, but to 911, because I needed roadside assistance.

I was driving my 2005 Honda Odyssey today and as I was pulling into a parking space (about 5 mph) at a drug store and coming to a stop, the vehicle suddenly accelerated (jumped) forward. Had I not already had my foot on the brake I would have hit a rack of propane tanks! the car traveled about 4 ft from acceleration start to stopping and it rolled over the curb. My hard braking left a foot of tire tread marks on the concrete sidewalk from the front wheels. I always keep the cruise control (cc) off when driving locally but after I stopped the car, I noticed the cc was on. I did not turn it on and do not know how it activated. I want a record of the event. It left me shaken and want to insure that if there are other reports to nthsa actions be taken to advise owners of the problem. Drove to other locations without further problems. I intend to advise local Honda dealer and Honda corporate as well.
: the contact stated the radio controls worked intermittently. While on vacation, the cruise control suddenly stopped working. The dealership determined this was a common problem with vehicles of the same year, make and model. The defective part also affected the proper operation of the horn assembly, the steering wheel, air bag sensor, cruise control and radio controls. The dealership replaced the cable and reel assembly. The repair only corrected the problems with the radio controls and the cruise control.
The contact states while driving at 60 mph the cruise control stopped working. The fuse was checked, but the vehicle has not been to a mechanic for inspection or repairs.
I set the cruise control on my van at 120 km an hour. A car passed and then pulled closely in front of me so I touched my brakes to slow down. When I pressed resume to re-establish my set speed, the cruise control malfunctioned and the car started to accelerate to about 130. I touched the brakes, slowed the car, and as soon as I released the brakes the car accelerated again. I pushed off the cruise control button. It had no effect. I realized something was jammed and the cruise control was not going to shut off. I pulled over to the side of the road, put on my brakes as hard as I could, put the car in park and turned off the engine. I re-started to see what would happen and the engine roared at full throttle. I called a tow truck and was towed to the closest dealership where a technician cut the cruise control cable and I was able to continue on my way.

Un-inteded acclerate while cruise control is on during low speed. I notice if the cruise control is on, even the cruise speed is not set, during the wait of traffic light the throttle will acclerate. I need applied extra force on the break-pedal to restraint the van move forward. I has been cautious on this, no accident been cause because of this. But Honda should exam their electronic throttle control program.
While driving, the cruise control failed to disengage, the consumer was unable to stop or slow the vehicle down. The consumer shut off the ignition and cruised to the shoulder.

The cruise control on this car causes the speed to increase while traveling up longer grades. There have been many times during our ownership when this had caused very awkward and dangerous situations. Other drivers who begin to pass on a hill have gotten annoyed when our car picks up speed while they are trying to pass. On occasion the increase in speed has been substantial, as much as 8 miles per hour. Sometimes, when cresting a hill, the car continues at the faster speed, wanting to gain even more speed at the next hill. The only way to prevent this is to disengage the cruise when approaching hills. This problem was reported to the dealer early on, but he was unable to do anything about it.
