__ the present complaint alleges as follows: 1. Honda has a defective design in the advanced driver assistance systems (adas) of all Honda Odysseys, models 2018-2023. 2. Namely, Honda has placed the radar behind the large Honda emblem on the front grille. This causes the radar to give a "radar obstructed" warning, which disables all advanced driver assistance systems in the car (automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning). 3. The "radar obstructed" warning cannot be reset by restarting the vehicle or disconnecting the battery, requiring recalibration of the radar at the cost of $800 each time since it takes several hours to do (per dealership). 4. The official Honda Odyssey forum online has countless complaints on the same issue without resolution by Honda. 5. Honda has acted in bad-faith towards their customers since this defect impacts the vehicle's advanced safety features for which buyers incur additional expenses, endangering the lives of passengers. 6. Honda has acted in bad-faith towards their customers by designing a system that requires continuous and substantial expenditures without resolution because it is an engineering problem, I. E. , the placement of the radar behind the large, thick plastic h emblem obstructs the radar. 7. I hereby ask that the NHTSA investigate this issue and order Honda to offer a solution in the form of a recall that permanently addresses the problem.

Vehicle start up diagnostics show multiple failures, including abs, e-steering, emergency braking, adaptive speed control. Dealership found a problem with the right rear abs sensor. The sensor wire harness was severed. The harness showed damage in multiple places (see photos). Besides being severed, it showed another deep cut and a place where the outer plastic sheath was cut away. The loss of abs sensor made the vehicle exhibit poor handling including braking. The vehicle has only 4000 miles and is in pristine condition with no damage.

I took my van to the dealer and they told me that the sensor inside of the front mirror is faulty, causing the following lights to continue to cycle if the car is adaptive cruise control problem (acc); auto high-beam problem (a); road departure mitigation system problem; collision mitigation system problem; lane keeping assist problem (lkas); brake system lights. I am unable to engage or disengage any of these systems, including when I am driving. This seems to be a major security hazard and I am aware of others that have experienced this with this exact year, make and model (across different packages) of Honda minivan. I just wanted to report this in case this becomes a major concern for other consumers.

At speed less than 25 mph, the collision mitigation braking system (cmbs) did not work. At cross roads this cmbs will not work when a vehicle comes from the side. This will work only if it detects the vehicle's presence in front for more than 3-5 seconds. Will not activate during sudden presence of vehicle at any speed.

Adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring, lane keep assist, automatic braking, auto beam functions stopped working.

After I took my car through a car wash I got the folllowing alert, "radar obstructed warning. " after this warning I then got the warnings for brake system, cruise control all not working.

Multipurpose camera failure. Warnings appeared upon failure after being parked in the shade on a moderately warm day ~80 degrees. Warnings with chimes reappear after being cleared, causing distraction while driving. Safety systems are inoperable without expensive camera replacement. Systems disabled as a result include adaptive cruise control, collision mitigation system, lane keeping assist, road departure mitigation, auto high beam system.

The front camera has failed for apparently no reason at all. There has been no crash, no damage on our end. We turned the car on and all of the safety warnings came on. The dealership has inspected it and said the code is for the camera failing. Many warning lights appear on the dash due to none of the safety features working without the front camera. This has caused all of the adaptive safety features to fail. There have been no recalls yet, despite the recalls for the rear camera, and many other Odyssey owners having the same issue with the front camera. We have reported it to Honda and were told that it has been reported by others, but not enough times to issue a recall. It is expensive to fix and poses a serious danger to leave due to none of the safety features working. This is a manufacturing defect that Honda is not taking seriously.

Several warnings popped up on my dash at once: adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, brake system, auto highbeam, collision mitigation system, and road departure mitigation system. The dealer’s internet is down for at least several days, so they are not able to troubleshoot the problem. However, an internet search to troubleshoot myself indicates that this is a standing, systemic issue with 2018 and 2019 Honda Odyssey’s that may warrant a recall.

For approximately 1 year the collision mitigation braking system will intermittently activate even when no hazards or objects are present in front of the vehicle. This has happened regardless of speed or any other conditions and has even happened while accelerating. There are no lights or warnings that present before the system activates. This poses a hazard of losing control of the vehicle or potential causing a crash due to the unexpected and sudden braking. This problem is intermittent and does not happen every time the car is driving but has happened enough to bring the car in to the service center. The first time we were told they couldn't replicate the problem so they wouldn't look into it. The second time they acknowledged a know issue with their collision mitigation system and recommended the camera and radar be recalibrated at a cost of $850. For some reason this failure of the system is not covered under warranty. They also stated the calibration is not guaranteed to fix the problem.

After a slight rain, the error of radar obstructed is being displayed. Can’t get this error removed or fixed. After searching more I found out that: 1. Vehicle braking system gets activated too often. Dealership services cannot find anything nor accept there's any issues. Today 08/15/2024 the vehicle locked up the brakes, while driving at 55 mph; injuring a 15 yr; 12 yr; 11yr; and 57 yr. Grandmother. Called dealership services and stated they will see vehicle, but don't believe to find anything, as before. Two of my family members sustained neck injuries. Can you please help. Vehicle can be inspected anytime. Please call first.

Prior to purchasing this vehicle, on the test drive, the vehicle slammed on the brakes for no good reason. The dealer assured me the collision mitigation braking system (“cmbs”) can be turned off, so I bought the car. I then learned that the cmbs automatically turns on every time the engine is turned on. I must shut cmbs off each and every time I start the car, but since my other car is a Tesla (which doesn’t have this problem), sometimes I do forget to shut off cmbs. Through out my almost 7 years of ownership, the car has slammed on the brakes countless numbers of times for absolutely no reason at all. Sometimes no cars are behind me, but there have been several times when cars behind me have almost crashed into me due to my faulty cmbs. My elderly mother is in need of a car and I refuse to let her borrow mine because I am scared she will forget to disable the cmbs and get into a crash. I am deeply astonished that with everything that is known about Honda’s cmbs, NHTSA has not taken any action against this dangerous feature. I wonder what NHTSA is getting paid to look the other way. A complete failure of an institution I used to hold in high regard.

I just started up the car one morning and had multiple sensor warnings. Brought it to the Honda dealership and told it was an internal sensor camera malfunction and wanted $2000+ to fix it. This honestly should be a recall as I’ve had several other Honda owners complaining about the same thing which is a huge safety concern.

While driving in the through lane, we experienced (this has happened several times) a sudden sharp braking due to a car in a turn lane being stopped and sensed by the anticollision system. We believe this same system has caused hard braking when changing from a through lane to a right turn lane without putting on the turn signal. It also "gently" brakes at times when the lane markings on one side or the other are faint or missing, we think the system sees this as a lane departure. The most recent sharp sudden braking almost caused us to be rear-ended. Along with this there are various issues with proximity sensors around the vehicle. We believe all of these issues are related.

On a number of occasions the automatic braking system has engaged when no vehicles or objects were present in the vicinity of the vehicle. This is incredibly dangerous. When I get in the car now I have to remember to disengage that feature before operating the vehicle.

It’s starting raining and the brake system light came on and hasn’t went off.

Started the car one morning and instantly a bunch of warning messages appear on the dashboard stating; 1) collision mitigation system problem 2) lane keeping assist problem 3) road departure mitigation system problem 4) auto high beam problem 5) auto emergency braking problem. There is also a brake system light on now (amber color) due to the above. Never had an issue before now. This is on a Honda Odyssey 2019 ex with just over 35k miles. Took car to local mechanic who ran diagnostic report and found the following issue; "integrated driver support/monocular camera driver support system issue; multi-purpose camera unit/millimeter wave radar internal electronic failure" contacted the Honda dealership who want $1500 for a new device and programing; this is disgusting. This issue is so widespread its almost ready to be a full blown recall.

With low reproducibility rate, the vehicle may activate alarms or emergency breaking in response to wide open lane with no obstructions. What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? automatic emergency breaking / radar how was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? unexpected change of behavior has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? no has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? no were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? no except during the event.

The multipurpose camera above the rearview mirror has stopped working. It controls several systems including; adaptive cruise control, automatic brake system, forward collision warning, lane keeping assistance, lane departure warning, automatic high beam control. Every time I start the vehicle I have to clear 6 different malfunction warnings and non of the effected systems will function. There is an increased risk of accidents. I just had a vehicle diagnostic ran at flow Honda of charlottesville va and they quoted me a price of $2,060 to replace the part.

One day my car just turned on. Lights come on will not turn off. Dashboard lights up with every symbol blinking, relays under the hood turning off turning on non-stop. Took it to the Honda dealer, who said I needed a vsa module. Only catch here is the part will not be available until October 2024. 4 months from now. Was told they put me at the bottom of the list as my car is 7 years old. Newer vehicles get priority. Rich people first poor people last. When it would run car would randomly just turn off while driving. Car unsafe to operate.

I was driving, and there was a car coming from the opposite direction in their own lane, and nowhere near my car, and the automatic braking slammed on the brakes. This was just the worst instance of it malfunctioing.

The camera that controls all the advanced driver assistance system fails intermittently. This causes 5 different warnings to come on and all of the safety features bases on this camera to stop working. This is an ongoing issue. An internet search shows that there are multiple Honda vehicles with this problem.

There are five warning indicator on the dashboard complaining about adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, lane departure warning, and lane keeping assistance. I took the car to the Honda dealership, and they acknowledged that they were due toan internal failure of the multipurpose camera.

2019 Honda Odyssey recently started having these problems intermittently, about 50% of the time I start the car: acc problem collision mitigation problem lake keep assist problem auto high beam problem it prevents the front collision mitigation from working.

The monocular front window camera in 2018-2023 Honda's (odyssey, ridgline, pilot. . . ) fails. This front window camera controls the following safety features: -lane keep assist (lkas) -collision mitigation -adaptive cruise control -lane departure mitigation -rain sensor windshield wipes -auto high beam -automatic emergency breaking in addition to compromising these safety features when the camera fails, false warnings are repeatedly provided on the dash of the vehicle, sometimes in a singular and sometimes in a cyclic manner that you cannot get to shut off while driving. In addition to the cyclic visual warnings that cannot be turned off sometimes, the system repetitively beeps through the cycle of erros/warnings. I thought I was the only one with this issue, but my research has revealed hundreds of complaints over the last year. [xxx] [xxx] [xxx] [xxx] [xxx] Honda told me they are unaware that this is a common issue, and it is $1800 to fix. Driving on highway at approximately 30 mph and vehicle suddenly braked for no reason.

Our vehicle is only a few years old and the front camera failed. It will not do any automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, etc. Honda refuses to cover this even though it is a manufacturer defect.

I started the vehicle and it displayed a message on the infotainment system screen that the system had lost power. I believed that this would only affect the radio functionality which I was not concerned about immediately. I placed the vehicle in reverse and I accidentally backed up into a parked car. At no point before the accident did I realize the rear camera did not work and the collision assistance sensors did not function. I believe if the collision avoidance system was working correctly my accident would have been prevented. I have come to depend on the safety features of this vehicle. I know that this is not an issue with my car battery as I recently had a Honda dealer install a new battery prior to this accident and the vehicle started normally.

I was driving on the freeway at approx 65mph with no cars around me when the orange light that said brake came on and the car slowed down on its own. Could not override problem for a few seconds.

The automatic braking system activates randomly when merging onto a highway if you do not have your signal activated, and cross a lane line, at the moment you merge onto the highway. I understand that it is the law that you must signal a lane change, however failure to do so should not result in the vehicle slamming on the brakes, especially when you are attempting to increase speed merging onto a highway. When this happens, it is incredibly dangerous. On [xxx] at [xxx] p. M. I was merging onto [xxx] from [xxx] in illinois. As I was merging onto [xxx], the emergency braking system slammed on the brakes, and alerted me of a possible collision. The car behind me almost ready ended me. The roadway was free and clear. This occurred as I was passing through the lane markings from the on ramp to the expressway. I do not remember if I had my signal on. I do not have exact dates when each of these incidents have occurred, but is happened at least 5-6 times in the year that we have owned the car. There is an ongoing investigation by NHTSA for Honda's emergency braking system, which according to this article has been expanded to 2023 model years including Odyssey [xxx]). I think the investigation should be expanded to include 2024 model years as well. If any other information is needed please let me know. Random extreme sudden braking (activation of the cmbs) while driving on the freeway, without any vehicle in reasonable proximity tothe front or to either side. Creates hazardous situation resulting in collision with a car following behind or loss of control. Daytime driving, dry pavement, both sunny and cloudy. Full visibility. This has been ocurring for the last three years, frequently.

10/4/2023 (55k miles), the vehicle suddenly lost power at interstate speed and dropped to three cylinders. Warning lights came on disabling all automatic safety systems. I took the vehicle to a parts store and obd indicated an oil pressure sensor in vtec bank 1. After restarting the vehicle I once again had all 6 cylinders, but all safety systems failures were still indicated on the dash. I replaced the battery (5. 5 years old) and all systems returned to normal. After a the pgm-fi update for idle stop issues (recall) was performed at the dealer on 1/31/2024, two days later (2/2/2024) the previous event recurred resulting in severe loss of power and all safety systems indicating failure. I replaced the 4 month old battery under warranty believing the battery had failed prematurely. The problem did not resolve after replacing the battery and multiple restarts. I returned the car to the dealer service center on 2/3/2024 running on three cylinders and then suddenly 6 again after a restart part way there. Dealer diagnosed issue as intermittent fault p2652 rocker arm oil pressure switch b (bank 1) and replaced it at my cost but did not charge diagnoses. Operation returned to normal. ***I have driven Honda vehicles for 25 years with very few issues. Something is seriously wrong in their ecu program/electrical system that causes vehicle to suddenly lose power and safety systems due to an intermittent oil pressure sensor fault. I am a mechanical engineer with more than 18 years working in mechanical and electrical aerospace systems. Honda needs to identify the root cause of this failure mode and issue yet another recall to address the systemic hardware and software issues. Both times this occurred, I had 4 young kids in the car and could not maintain safe interstate speed or accelerate to get on the highway.
