Honda Odyssey owners have reported 53 problems related to blind spot detection (under the lane departure category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Honda Odyssey based on all problems reported for the Odyssey.
Rear lift gate ceased operating, unlocking or opening. Later received errors on dash for blind spot malfunction and transmission error. Dealer says it is an issue with water leaking into the rear chassis getting into the exposed electronics.

Failed part information front camera - Honda (36160-thr-a11) faulty camera inaccurately reads the surrounding objects, causing the car to hesitate and lurch when accelerating. It is not safe. Yes, the problem has been confirmed by a service center and the dealer yes, the component has been inspected by the dealer and a service center no warnings prior to failure. The warning lamps and messages started when the component had already failed.
Rear view mirror on the windshield has a factory defect. It falls off and causes hazardous conditions. I backed into a parked and unoccupied vehicle. It was dark, the warning beeper did not sound until I hit the vehicle. The dealership has attempted to fix the issue 3 times, the item is ordered to fix the mirror. I have reported this issue to the nhsta twice. This is my second update after the initial report. The sales manager, bobby, (cell#336-740-4273), says that he is aware that other Honda vehicles have had this problem with the mirror.

Here is what happened: 1). After the car driving for 10mins and engine warms up, stop the car, and turn off. 2). Turn on the car again, it shows message such as "emissions system problem", "transmission problem", "blind spot info system problem" at the same time. The computer locks the car that doesn't allow the transmission to change from "p" to "r", "n", or "d" position. The car fails to drive. 3). Leave the car for few hours and let the engine compartment cool down first, turn on the car again and those messages go away, and the car can drive. 4). After driving for a while, it repeats the problem from 1) ~ 3).

The camera that controls all safety features in my vehicle has an “internal failure” this means all my sensors and my dash board is lit up like a christmas tree. I took it to the dealership paid for a diagnostic test and found out it was the front camera internal failure, which means all sensors (lane mitigation, braking system, cruise control, automatic dim lights etc), is all not working. Help please!! as I took it to the dealership even if I pay for the fixing the camera is on national back order that being stated it means many people are having the same issue, and Honda has no conducted a recall for this help us please!!!.
Honda has a recall notice to repair the rear camera. We took the car in to get the recall service. The camera stopped working. Honda told us the diagnostic to determine what wasn't working on the camera would cost hundreds of dollars. This was recall service that disabled the camera. We should not be charged and they have messed up our car system.
While driving multiple system failure- warning lights then failure blind spot alert, lane departure, back up camera, wipers, tailgate function. When able to stop, power locks did not function. Inability to access rear of car via sliding doors would pose serious risk if accident occurred due to system failure. Prior to all systems alert, tailgate warning light had been intermittently appearing for a few days. Dealer service center noted water leak from unsealed section between window and frame in back driver side panel that corroded body console module.
Blindspot monitoring, emissions system problem, transmission system problem all come on at the same time when vehicle is motion. Unable to manually shift if needed. A lot of vans had recall, however ours is not on the recall list, but we highly believe it should be due to safety concerns due to transmission failure.
Honda corporation is not compensating dealers fairly for this significant recall on Honda Odysseys. This recall involves disassembling much of the interior to replace these defective communication cables. To do it correctly and reassemble the vehicle correctly the work could take 8 hours or more. Because Honda of America is compensating dealers for much less than the correct work time, to do the work, Honda owners are having issues with their repairs. Honda's unfair compensation to dealers is causing other mechanical issues on Honda Odyssey vehicles. On another note Honda Odyssey vans have some defective blind spot sensors. When we merge onto the interstate (if we do forget to use our turn signal. . . . . It does happen at times) the van goes (on its own) into emergency braking mode (when you are accelerating to highway speeds), causing us to almost cause several interstate accidents. . . . . Because of this safety feature. These vans are very unsafe.

Since purchase the blind spot warning won't operate or goes off on its own. No audible warning when it is chosen. Purchased vehicle on a Friday, and returned Saturday and Monday. Both techs replicated the problem but no idea of a fix yet.
Own a 2018 Honda Odyssey touring w/10 speed transmission just outside the powertrain warranty. The current mileage is 115,863 miles. On 1/2/2023, while my wife was driving, she experienced severe jerking and gears slipping in drive. The car continued to drive, but there was hesitation in gearing. The following day (1/3/2023), hesitation rapidly turned into the complete failure of the van to go into reverse. The car would not engage reverse, started blinking r, and was freewheeling like it was in neutral. Suddenly, the dash indicated transmission system failure + blind spot warning failure. All modes, drive, sport, neutral, and reverse, were flashing. Wife was able to get the van home, and I immediately took it to the dealership. The following morning, 1/4/2023 (today as of this writing), the dealership notified me the tech observed what he called “a death code,” indicating the transmission must be replaced. $11,000 repair is underway as of this writing. The problem is exactly similar to this reported and others in Odyssey consumer forums. It appears to be a transmission manufacturing defect by Honda car. Answers to questions: 1) component malfunction is transmission system - and adas/blind spot. 2) car was slipping and jerking on the motorway in the middle of high-speed traffic and trucks, endangering our safety. 3) problem was reproduced 100% of the time personally and by the dealership personnel. 4) the dealer indicated a “death code” and that the transmission must be replaced. 5) transmission system failure + blind spot warning failure, all modes, drive, sport, neutral, and reverse, were flashing the letter associated with the gear/mode selected.
Own a 2018 Honda Odyssey elite w/10 speed transmission that is still under powertrain warranty. Current mileage is approx 51,400 miles. On 06/23 while driving on I-680 south bound driving my kids to school - experienced severe jerking and gears slipping in drive. Car continued to drive, but there was hesitation in gearing. As a precaution decided to pull over and stopped the vehicle in milpitas, CA. On restart the car was completely stalled, the car would not engage in "reverse" gear and on pressing accelerator it seemed like it was in neutral. All modes, drive, sport, neutral and reverse were flashing and got a warning in the dashboard saying "transmission system problem/blind spot info system problem". Also see this thread. . Read more...
I was driving my vehicle when suddenly the acc, lkas, blind spot, lane departure, went on. Also I parked my vehicle then the transmission problem indicator went on. Took it to Honda was told if its driveable its fine. So I left. Put gas which the range read 130 miles til empty have way down the block I suddenly had 121 miles til empty. Theres no way I drove 9 miles.
The rear view camera on this car is defective. Honda and the dealership appear to be playing games with customers stating that they will get this dealt with but no eta has been forthcoming the whole of 2022.
Anytime the temperature is below freezing (32f), the infotainment system fails to boot. This prevents us from properly defrosting windows for visibility, or using the rear-view camera while backing, or accessing many of the other features of the vehicle that are controlled by the infotainment unit. The lack of a rear-view camera is especially concerning on a van with otherwise poor rearward visibility through mirrors. Many people have car seats in their Mini-van which further obstructs rearward visibility without the camera. We have visited the dealer numerous times for a fix for this issue, and there either is none, or Honda's dealers arent interested in fixing it. Essentially, we are without most of the vehicles advanced features whenever it is cold outside.
Back up sensors stopped working 4 months after purchasing a brand new vehicle. Also the side sensor just randomly lights up when there’s nothing around or the brake light pops up.
Recall # 20v-438 incomplete. Parts ordered 12/16/2020 . Parts have not arrived as of 4/3/2021.

Bought vehicle new at millennium Honda, hempstead new york. Vehicle is not going into reverse when vehicle gets hot. My mileage is 40,512 took it millennium Honda on October 4, 2025, for diagnostic testing error code p0736 was diagnosed and that my transmission would need’s replacing at a cost of $11,495 for parts and labor, because I was a couple months out of warranty. I have since reached out to corporate but negative response. I am unable to use my vehicle since which have been at an additional expense to me as I have to maintain insurance and pay for bus, train and taxi services. Not sure what kind of assistance you can offer or even assist in investigating why a vehicle with 40,000 would need a new transmission after moderate use. Thanks for your consideration on this matter.
