12 Door Latch problem of the 2015 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 06/05/2021

The driver side sliding door cable broken all of a sudden when we took to dealer (( tamaroff Honda southfield michigan)and we were shocked to know that the cable cannot be replaced and the entire set - with motor should be replaced costing 1200 the cable as I see is very thin and my first impression is it's not strong enough that cannot with stand the openings and closings which we do/have to do on a daily basis besides it's connected to a motor which is completely inside the rear side and complex to reach out and to fix a cable we are shelling 1000+ dollars we hardly had any wear and tear on the vehicle as in 6 years we drove less than 50k miles this seems to be a practically functional and mechanical issue which is not qualitatively made , obviously looses it's strength on the normal daily use. This broken cable not only stops the door movement but also will alarm constantly when the van is in drive which forces the customer to shell out huge money only to replace the cable. I strongly believe this is a quality issue which needs a better way of mechanism with quality opened case #12287637 with Honda on 06/14/2021 and when I haven't received reply, called them and the case manager abruptly denied any sought of fix coverage ( partial also) stressing the point that the vehicle is out of warranty. Besides the case manager also denied to respond in email( for documentational purpose) which I requested to. . . They said they only answer in verbal.

Driver-side passenger sliding door opened suddenly while driving on interstate. Adult family member had just switched seats with child, moving the child to the back seat. Emergency flashers were put on, carefully pulled over and tried all tricks we could think of to close and lock the door, all in vain. Finally, used cord/rope/strings contraption to pull the door shut and tied it to driver seat with another adult member holding/pushing the door with leg to keep it shut till we reached home that evening. Called dealer & had it fixed next day at 730am for $450. 00. Official problem name: "latch broken. ¿ searched nhsta and surprisingly found many more people reporting this type of failure. I think its just a matter of time before someone has a fatality given the sudden nature of this door failure flinging wide open when the vehicle is moving. I hope nhsta and Honda will look into this further. Thanks. //jm.

33 Door Latch problem of the 2002 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 04/06/2008

The power sliding door on our van failed causing the door to whip open while traveling on the interstate with our children in the seats next to the suddenly open door (our dog was also in the vehicle and could have stepped out onto the road at 65mpg)! we had zero warning that there was a problem or that anything was wrong. Pulling into a service station they were unable to correct the problem nor could Honda or its dealers via phone. We were forced to drive home with the door taped from the outside and traveling at low speeds so the door would not open on the highway once again. What really makes the situation difficult is finding out via the internet that this is a very common problem with fixes posted on numerous pages. Why there is not a recall when something this dangerous could happen and is this common is why I am writing. I am afraid to drive the 35 miles to the dealership!!! the problem is still not fixed because I am afraid to take the van on the highway. I don't remember the exact day or month we purchased the van but we did purchase the vehicle new. The internet fix did not cure the problem but we did try and it looked like it worked for others. We did not use aaa to tow the vehicle since we were at a service station and they called around for us to try and get a solution. A minor problem is understandable but when a door suddenly opens at interstate speeds I believe there should be a recall or at the very least an investigation. Please respond so we know something is being done to prevent this from happening to anyone else and before someone or something gets seriously injured. If our dog fell out onto a busy interstate I couldn't even imagine the chaos that would ensue much less the heartache of the children (thank god for childseats!!!!!!!!!!!!!).

34 Door Latch problem of the 2000 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 03/20/2008

Driving on i270 south towards 33 east at 65 mph with 4 teenagers and 1 8 week old baby in my 2000 Honda Odyssey and the rear sliding passenger door flies open on its own. My 6 year old daughter was sitting in the seat next to the door when it flew open. It scared her half to death as she was staring at the pavement going by at 65 mph. The door wasn't even on. I turn them off because I am afraid of them opening when they shouldn't after hearing all the stories about these doors. It's a good thing my daughter had her seatbelt on and sitting in her seat or this could have been very tragic. No one died this time. Why will Honda not see there is a serious safety issue here. The latch has been replaced numerous times and yet it is still failing to the point the door will not stay shut on it's own. Something must be done before someone dies here!!!.
