Right sliding door fails to open. Would allow manual opening on several occasion then the door latched into locked position and wouldn't open even manually. Taken to dealer service center. That worked on it half a day to find that they really didn't know what was wrong and can't determine the problem. No remedy. Took to a Honda/Acura shop to have looked at. Same outcome. Said everything looks to be in working order however they couldn't determine why door was not opening and could not get the door opened. Claw that hooks to latch will not release. Dealer service center suggested cutting the latch with plasma cutters in order to get the door open, however they could not determine if the would be able to fix the problem even then. We can't find anyone who can fix the door. We are in a safety dilemma as our 2 year olds car seats sits on this side of the door. Should there be an emergency we would not be able to exit the vehicle fast enough to get all three children out due to the door not working. Can anyone provide a solution?????.

Hondo Odyssey, 2001 door latches. Door did not close completely for about 3 months. Then door completely stopped opening or closing even after resetting the system. Honda gave me an estimate of $995. 00 for the left door and $875. 00 for the right door. I know prior two years this model was produced the latch was recalled. I can not find a recall for my vehicle. I feel it has the same problem as the 1999 and 2000.

Every winter since we purchased our 1999 Odyssey brand new, the power sliding doors would freeze and lock up. It will not work. Since our Odyssey is out of manufacturer's warranty, the cost to repair is very expensive - a dealer estimated $2000 just to fix one door. So we decided not to fix the sliding power doors and just open them manually instead. Even in manual mode, they still freeze during winter. The dangerous part is that they open by itself even when the vehicle is in motion. I respectfully submit that this may be a serial defect.

The sliding doors on our 2001 Honda odysey ex will not remain closed and often open slightly while driving, triggering the interior buzzer system. This problem occurs off and on during random occasions with no apparent warning or cause. The sliding door fuses have been reset numerous times and the battery has been replaced, but the problem fails to be remedied. This is a dangerous situation and I am concerned for the safety of my children/passengers when riding in the vehicle, as I never know when the sliding doors may fail to stay closed!.
The contact owns a 2000 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that the sliding doors would not close proper and would come off track while closing automatically. The contact had to push the door back on track in order for the doors to be closed and locked. The contact took the vehicle to a local mechanic where the mechanic advised that the upper track for the door latch assembly needed to be replaced. The mechanic informed the contact of NHTSA campaign id number: 00v119000 (latches/locks/linkages:doors:latch) but the contact was advised by the manufacturer that the vehicle was not included in the recall due to the VIN. The failure mileage was 180,000.
My daughter and I both opened her door at the same time (she with the handle and I with the button on the key). The door opened just a little and then stopped. I asked her to open the door and she said, "no, you open it. " she began to get in the car (through the small opening in the door) and I pressed the button. The door closed on her - it did not stop. It pushed hard enough against her to cause a huge mark on her arm. It is completely black and blue and she screamed out and cried loudly from the pain. The door after closing on her reopened. It should have never closed on her. The sensor should have caught it. - we took pictures of her arm if you need them. I have also been caught in the door a couple times (twice) when I was buckling my kids in and accidentally pressed the button. The door didn't stop even though I was in the doorway. I looked online to submit a complaint to Honda, but they don't have a way to do it online. I have not yet complained directly to them. Let me know if I should.

Honda Odyssey power sliding doors frequently fail to close and latch. Especially on inclines. Problem has gotten progressively worse. Doors frequently can not be closed from the inside and must be forcibly closed from the outside.

Honday odysse sliding doors fail to open. This has happened a few times. The only way to fix it is to pull out a fuse and reset the door computer.
Problem with power sliding door. On our 1999 ex Odyssey, the passenger side power sliding door closes but not quite all the way, it will not "engage", or "catch". Therefore, the van thinks the door is still open (open door light is on, buzzes continually when put into gear, and interior lights stay on). Because this problem my son got hurt because the door didn't stop when he was getting into the van so the door trapped his arm. The dealer says there is no recall so I have to pay almost $1,000 canadian to get it fix. The Honda dealer doesn't care about this issue so I would like to file this problem in court if it is possible.
Our Honda Odyssey is equipped with automatic sliding doors. My 3 year old daughter got her fingers caught in the rear part of the slider and the door closed all the way. It appears there are no safety features as we thought in the rear part of the door. This to me seems to be a design flaw.

My two year old son's thumb was broken in the automatic power side door of my 2002 Honda Odyssey. The door is suppose to have a safety device that makes the doors stop if bumped. It failed and the door closed till latch connected and snapped my son's thumb below the first joint. My wife had to open the door to release the thumb. He was taken to chkd in norflok va and the finger was placed in a cast due to a clean break of the bone.

2001 Honda Odyssey van - the sliding passenger doors fail to open or close periodically. Much of the time the sliding doors are in the closed position and will not open. This is unsafe as the passengers in the back cannot exit the car in a timely manner. Children are not strong enough to open them manually. The van has been to the dealer to remedy this problem but the fix is always temporary. The problem is electrical or the door motors wear out. It is hazardous to be unable to enter or exit this vehicle as needed.
The contact owns a 1999 Honda Odyssey. While driving 25 mph, the passenger side sliding door clicked. The control panel displayed that the door was ajar, although it was not. Furthermore, the driver side sliding door would not open from the outside or the inside. The dealer stated that the failure was already repaired, but it was not performed by Honda. Nhtsa campaign id number 00v119000 (latches/locks/linkages:doors:latch) was referenced, however, the dealer would not honor the recall. The current and failure mileages were 137,000. Received 12/12/07 64,200. Updated 12/12/07.
My 2003 Honda Odyssey's automatic sliding door will not close completely. I have to bump it with my hip or close it manually. Then the van still thinks it's open and will beep and beep while I'm driving. It concerns me as my 5 month old baby is right next to that door and I'm concerned as to whether he's safe or not. I worry about the door staying closed.
The contact owns a 1999 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that the electric sliding door would partially open and then remain open. He stated that the sliding door would open without warning. The dealer stated that the motor, switches, and rollers needed to be replaced. As of September 14, 2007, the dealer had not repaired the vehicle. The current and failure mileages were 158,000. Updated 02-21-08.
The contact owns a 2007 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated there were no sensors on the passenger side sliding door. As a result, a passenger's fingers were smashed by the door. The dealer was contacted. The vehicle has not been repaired. The current mileage was 2,500 and failure mileage was 2,400. Updated 12/12/07.

Passenger sliding door won't latch. Safety issue. What happens if you ignore it and have an accident? will door stay shut. My opinion is no! we carry out grandkids quite often. Honda Odyssey 1999.
2002 Honda Odyssey with transmission failure customer states that Honda knows about this problem and he wants to reimbursed for repair** the consumer stated a tenet spring in the automatic transmission snapped. The consumer stated there was a recall for this vehicle but his vehicle identification number was not included in the recall or extended warranty. The dealer stated driver's rear door doesn't open from the inside.
My six-year-old son was reaching for his seat belt at the same time the door was being closed by the driver. The car was parked. My son's fingers were caught in the back of the sliding door. Even more upsetting was that once the door was close, it could not be opened again for 30-45 seconds, with my screaming six-year-old's fingers still closed inside. There is a sensor on the door, but it is on the front of the door, not the back. Further, I think there should be an emergency release of the door installed.
2000 Honda odyessy. Sliding door(s) will not totally close sometimes, or will appear closed. Will be turning a corner and the door alarm will go off and door will click like coming ajar. With children in the car, it could be dangerous. Have to stop and open door all the way and then reclose, then lock and most of the time will help, not always. Have taken to Honda dealer and after $600 repair it lasted a two weeks before it started to it again.
Bought a brand new Honda Odyssey ex-l 2007. The power sliding door won't latch and close properly. The object detection unit also malfunctioned. The dealer have to replace many parts and fixed the wiring problems to get it fixed. Went through 4 repairs.
The contact owns a 1999 Honda Odyssey ex. While driving 35 mph on a clear day the contact smelled something burning and noticed smoke rising from the steering column. He stated that the instrument panel shut off and the lights dimmed. Also , the vehicle began to thrust, jerk, and finally shut off. The contact attempted to restart the vehicle, but was unsuccessful. He stated that the engine sounded as if the battery was losing power. The vehicle was towed to his residence and was able to restart a few days later. The contact discovered recalls 00v0300 concerning electrical system:wiring:front underhood, and 03v423000 concerning electrical system :ignition :switch, and called the manufacturer. The manufacturer stated that the vehicle was included in the abovementioned recalls. However, the first recall repair was performed in April 2001, and the second repair was performed on October 8, 2002. The contact informed the manufacturer that the vehicle had the same stalling failure noted in the recall. The manufacturer stated that the repair was completed by them. The contact filed a complaint with the manufacturer and was issued case number n012007-04-26-00304. In addition, the passenger's side sliding door failed, and could only be unlocked manually. The current mileage is 119,000, and failure mileage was 117,000.
2000 Honda Odyssey with automatic sliding doors that malfunction. The door does not close all the way. The door is not flush with the side (rear) panel. There is about a 3/8 inch gap between the rear panel and the back of the door. I am concerned that the door might not protect the occupants because it is not secure. Will the door fly off during an impact? I have had to turn off the power to the doors so that it operates manually. However, it is very difficult to open and close - my wife and fours kids, including my 15 year old son cannot open or close the door manually. I am concerned about exiting the vehicle in an emergency. The kids may be in a situation where they are trapped. It also would become a problem if we had to enter the vehicle quickly and were not able to do so.
4 year child in the back drivers side seat, not the third row. Vehicle is equiped with an automatic rear sliding door closure mechanism. The door closure system has safety mechanism that appeared to be fuctioning properly at the time of the incident. When automatic door was closing child put her left hand between the door and the frame as it closed. The door continued to close and completed the latching process with the child's hand crushed between the door and the frame. The door had to be opened to extract the childs hand. The child sustained serve crushing injuries to the entire hand, from the palm to the finger tips. The child was taken immeadiately to an pediatric orthopedic surgeon. The surgeon x-rayed the hand and determined that one of the bones on the middle finger had been broken. After the incident the automatic door safety mechanism appeared to be functioning normally.

2007 Honda Odyssey exl sliding doors noise and cannot be opened inside the car by passenger. Had the streering column repaired twice a few month after purchasing the car.
Honda 2001 Odyssey ex. 1. Door would buzz and not shut completely. Both power sliding doors of minivan. 2. Had children who were trapped and had to climb out of the front passenger seat to get out of the van. Also, had to drive down the road with the door partially ajar. 3. Fuse #13 was pulled, doors were lubricated. Honda then told me it was the motor. Then a day later when both doors wouldn't work they said it's the contact pins that need to be replaced.
I own a pre-owned 1999 Odyssey ex. We have recently had several things go out on it. It currently has no dash lights and the driversã‚?? side sliding door will not open or close. I had the electrical portion of the ignition switch replaced on 3/28/2007 because of a recall. After this was done, the dash lights quit working, which leads me to believe the two are related. Maybe inadvertently a wire to the dash lights was loosened when replacing the electrical portion of the ignition switch. When I contacted the dealer, I was told I would have to pay for a diagnosis to see if this was the problem. I was told the instrument lighting panel had been replaced before I owned the vehicle. It appears that either the wiring was loosened in the process of repairing the ignition switch or the recalled instrument light panel has gone out again. I believe the dealer should be able to diagnosis this without charging me, because of the situation. The two times I have called the customer service 800 number, the persons who have helped me have been very rude and unaccommodating. I am very surprised at the poor level of customer service I have received from the dealer and the 800-customer service line. I associate Honda with quality and superiority in all aspects of their business, but I cannot say that anymore. I would automatically buy a Honda as a new vehicle when I would need one, but since this experience, I would definitely consider other carmakers. In reference to the sliding door latch assembly recall, my Odyssey does not fall under the VIN #, but it does fall under the year, 1999. I think it is highly likely my 1999 Odyssey has the same problem as the other 1999 Odysseys that do have qualifying VIN's for the sliding door latch assembly problem. I am very disappointed in the whole process of the handling of my vehicles issues.
Sliding door on year 2000 Honda Mini van jams partially closed. Released after car goes over several bumps in road, allowing door to slam shut similar to guillotine. Van taken in for repair, Honda service personnel familiar with problem: defective plastic bearing on door. Plastic bearing probably failed in part due to jamming of door's seals (which have a Honda service campaign).
Automatic, sliding doors on 2001 Honda Odyssey do not close completely and latch.
- the contact owns a 2005 Honda Odyssey. The contact was experiencing steering problems related to recall #05v039000. While driving 50 mph the contact lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a ditch. While attempting to gain control of the steering the vehicle moved from the left to the right. The contact called the police, and was not given a police report. The mechanic replaced the tires, and stated that the failure was due to the tires. The contact advised the mechanic of the steering recall ,and he denied that it was related. None of the air bags in the vehicle deployed at the time of the collision. Recall #05v344000 was related to the air bags: frontal:sensor/control module. The drivers side door was difficult to close unless pressure was applied. The weather was not a factor. The current and failure mileage was 36,200.
Latches/locks/linkages:doors:latch while my wife was retrieving my 1yr old daughter from her child restraining device my 3. 5yr old son activated the automatic sliding rear/left passenger door crushing my wife causing bruses to her left shoulder. Neither child were hurt in this incident.
My wife was driving the 1999 Honda Odyssey ex home on the freeway. We were going home after having dinner. And the check engine light went on,we heard a noise and soon after all the dash lights went on followed by stiff steering wheel, and then the Honda completely shut off. We were able to coast to the side off ramp off the freeway. We tried to restart but the Honda would not restart. I had the Honda Odyssey towed to my regular mechanic. He looked at the Odyssey and informed me that my engine was shot. The Honda has not been driven ever since,it is parked and non operational. I do have a Honda invoice that states that they performed safety recall (ignition switch) repair on my Honda Odyssey invoice date of 8/30/2002.
Honda Odyssey 2000. Some manufacturing defect has caused the rear motorized sliding door to fail on the driver's side. The door will not close securely. If the door handle, outside or inside was pulled or bumped the door came unlatched but will not open or close, whether the vehiclewas in park or not. The door open light did not illuminate so the driver was unaware that children riding in the back were at risk.
I own a Honda Odyssey and live in the northeast. The side doors of my minivan become completely frozen shut in winter. If I ever needed to get anyone out of the rear of my car in a hurry during an emergency there is no way to do this.
The contact owns a 2006 Honda Odyssey ex. The contact stated that the automatic passenger side sliding door closed on her child's hand on two occasions. The door usesd a sensor when opening, but the sensor failed when closing the door. The child sustained finger and hand injuries. The contact has photos. The current mileage is 40,000 ,and failure mileage was 35,000. There is no sensor on the back half of the door. Update 07/03/07.
