1 Front Suspension problem of the 2005 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 11/26/2010

We experienced significant swaying while driving our Honda Odyssey 2005 with 4 other adults and 2 kids in our vehicle. We were in fairly normal weather conditions, no significant winds or icy roads but just trying to drive our vehicle we had too many difficulties to continue. We felt particularly unsafe and unsafe for other drivers on the road. We ended up having to cancel our trip as we were swerving and unable to control the "sway" of the van when reaching speeds of 55-60 mph. We were unsafe to maneuver on the highways and upon a check up we found out our right strut was completely blown out, and the left one also had to be replaced (on the front of the vehicle/van). We had the repairs done at river city tire, davenport, IA and it was a significant finding that they also said was very dangerous to be driving.

2 Front Suspension problem of the 2007 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 08/31/2010

2007 Honda Odyssey pulls hard right after right turn and hard left after left turn. This is a major driving hazard as the vehicle has the potential to pull off the road very quickly or into other vehicles if the steering is not constantly corrected. I bought a used cpo Honda Odyssey in August of 2010, and we noticed this pulling problem right off the lot. On a flat surface after a right or left turn, the vehicle will change lanes in 3 seconds if not corrected. We have taken this vehicle to the dealership 2 times, and they tried many things to no avail (tire rotations, alignment, tire deflations, etc. . . ). I asked them to check the suspension and struts because a person posted an unofficial fix online that deals with improperly aligned struts that worked. The service advisor claimed that they removed the struts and the problem was fixed. However, the problem is not fixed, and actually the problem seems worse now. I am pretty sure they did not remove the struts at all since I requested to see the struts when they were removed and they did not show them to me at all. The service advisor and two technicians experienced this problem when they rode along on test drives with me, but the are claiming that the issue well within the specs defined by Honda. They continue to exclaim that there is nothing else they can do. There has to be a way to fix this, but it seems that they do not want to spend the money to fix the problem properly. My concern is that this is a major safety hazard, and I am worried that my family of five may be involved in a catastrophic accident because the pulling problem is so bad. Please help my family and all the other Honda Odyssey owners who are having this pulling / alignment problem get a proper fix by issuing a recall that requires Honda to confess to the issue officially and fix the problem once and for all before something catastrophic happens.

3 Front Suspension problem of the 2007 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 08/04/2010

Vehicle had memory steer. Wandered left quickly if wheel is not held tightly. May pull right if last turn was to the right. Hard steering in general. Sore wrists after driving 60 minutes on freeway due to holding on to wheel tightly to stay in lane on freeway. Owned the van less than 1 month at time of travel. Purchased used. Two alignments performed and no change. Upon further inspection found upper strut rubber components not correctly installed on oem struts on vehicle. Disassembled struts and re-installed coil spring rubber on struts correctly, realigned tires again, and problem seems to have been corrected. No new parts needed to correct as old parts were functional but had not been installed correctly according to Honda technical service manual.

4 Front Suspension problem of the 2010 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 05/10/2010

At 7000 miles, the transmission made a very loud grinding and rattling noise, shaking the vehicle, when shifting from r to d. This was repeated at 25,000 miles several months after the software upgrade. In July of 2010, vehicle was brought in for memory steering, they replaced the right strut. November of 2010, the vehicle steering is unstable at low speeds when turning left. The sensation is either over-activity of the power steering pump or under-activity. Vehicle seems very unstable under low speed driving conditions, especially on bumpy roads. Vehicle taken to dealer, they could not identify anything abnormal.

7 Front Suspension problem of the 2001 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 03/10/2009

As best we can determine (based on noise) the coil springs failed while parking at low speeds. Not knowing what had happened the car was used at highway speed for a short trip following this. It pulled hard to alternating sides (right and left). Car was immediately taken to repair where we were advised we are lucky not to have had the spring puncture the tire at highway speed. Car has been repaired at cost of $850. The reason for my complaint is two fold. First - this was a dangerous failure that I do not feel is acceptable in a car of any age; and second - this was an expensive repair that I would like to see Honda cover.

10 Front Suspension problem of the 2001 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 01/15/2009

Last week ass my wife was driving our minivan made a loud snapping sound from the front of the vehicle. The van appeared to drive ok, although she only drives it around town at speeds less than 40mph. Today, the dealer told us the passenger side front spring had snapped. This is the second time this has happened to our van. The driver side spring snapped in December 2007. . Read more...

11 Front Suspension problem of the 2000 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 12/13/2008

While driving on a city street, a loud noise from the right side. Abs light came on, but reset after restarting van. Stopped and looked under van, but all looked okay. When driving car would suddenly pull hard to right. Noise continued and next day repair shop informed that right coil spring was broken and we were lucky it didn't puncture tire. They cut a portion of the spring away to keep spring from causing blowout. Not repaired as cost prohibitive.

14 Front Suspension problem of the 2005 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 06/25/2007

Shimmy in front end when applying brakes on downhill. Honda advised: caused by brake wearing. Honda replaced front brakes and resurfaced rotors , 32,310 miles. Now, 14,000 miles later, shimmy occurring on downhills when applying brakes. This is very unsafe especially to older or inexperienced drivers. I have been driving for over 55 years; I'm 74 years old. . . And I do know cars and engines, and have not had a vehicle with a shimmy since I was a kid! first occurred June 07 and started again 828/08. . Yesterday.

15 Front Suspension problem of the 2005 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 11/03/2006

When purchased new off the lot, experienced substantial pull to the right. Drove 500 miles and returned to dealer for service. Was told they needed to install camber bolts then align suspension (they reduced tire pressure in all four tires by ten pounds). Problem was not abated. After 5000 road trip, returned to dealer to align again(again reducing tire pressure). Six months later was still experiencing pull, but now accompanied by progressively worsening vibration. Dealer rotated and cross switched tires (once again reducing tire pressure). Problem seemed solved. Midway though next 5000 mile road trip vibration and pull started to recur, growing progressively worse as trip was concluded. Now at 26000 miles both front tires have substantial wear and need to be replaced and the car once more needs to be aligned.

16 Front Suspension problem of the 2002 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 10/01/2006

Clunking/thudding noise from passenger front of vehicle while traveling over small bumps in road or rough patches of highway. Vehicle evaluated by Honda dealer in 2006 for cause. Never fixed. Was told sound could not be reproduced. Have driven since listening to same sound. Disassembled front right strut assembly to replace strut/shock. Found passenger front spring broken. Has likely been broken since 2005. Suspect that other springs are broken on the vehicle as well.

17 Front Suspension problem of the 2006 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 08/11/2006

The van has drove terrible almost from the time we have bought it. It pulled very bad on the expressway to the left. It can change lanes all by itself, like autopilot. We took it in repeatedly, and all they would do is give it a front end alignment, and wouldn't test drive it or anything. Finally over christmas week they tried and tried to fix it. They adjusted the engine cradle so it was heavier on one side then the other, they adjusted the tire pressure off 2 pounds on one side and tilted one tire 10 degrees off from the other ones. They also put long camber bolts in the engine cradle. Well the van now drive worse then ever. They had a factory rep. Drive it and before that they told me that they might have to fly in a engineer to try to fix it. He test drove it and said OH it drive like all 2006 Honda odsseys. Then we were told there was nothing more they could do. We are now going through the bbb to get our money back. We cannot believe how terrible we were treated by brighton Honda dealership and by Honda's customer service. Don't buy a Honda ever!!! if there is something wrong with it ever they wont and don't stand behind their vehicles!!! I bought this van for safety for my 3 small children and feel like we are driving a death trap. Try driving a van that pulls to the left and then to the right on icy roads. Fun!!.

Passenger air bag is turning off frequently. There is always a strong crack when you press the brake. There is a decoloring passenger air bag place. It eats gas if you turn on the back air conditioner. The passenger console had a big vibration. The Odyssey has gone to the dealer more than four times for the same reason but it's never fixed. They said those claims are normal for a model 2004.

While driving, vehicle steers to right which may cause a loss of control. Dealer cannot determine cause, but there is a TSB on this problem. The consumer stated that the dealer performed repair four times, but the problem was not corrected.

25 Front Suspension problem of the 2000 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 09/11/2000

My wife experienced a castrophic failure of the right front susspension. The wheel buckeled under the car after the suspension broke. She was traveling at 30mph at the time of the failure. Honda did not interview her or the police officer to get any information related to the failure. They looked at the car in the shop and said my wife hit something to cause the failure. Both she and the police officer disagree with their assessment. I am disapointed that Honda was not interested in talking with my wife about the failure and placing blame on her for this failure. It could have been much more drastic if she had been traveling at higher speeds.

26 Front Suspension problem of the 2000 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 06/20/2000

From week of purchase, front end has vibrated vigorously at 65+ mph. Dealer was unable to align properly. After second visit, dealer said problem could not be fixed. I had to replace original tires at 18,000 miles due to excessive wear. I'm concerned about continued excessive tire wear, and wonder if vibrations will eventually result in other component failure.

27 Front Suspension problem of the 2000 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 06/12/2000

After purchasing vehicle from dealer I noticed that the vehicle was pulling hard to the right. After several attempts to repair this problem by the dealer, the vehicle still is pulling after all four camber bolts have been replaced and many alignments. Now the front tires are worn out. Tires firestone.

28 Front Suspension problem of the 2000 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 06/01/2000

This problem has happened for several months. Alignment by dealer did not solve problem. When turning either direction it either goes approx 45 degree angle or so left or right into curb/side of road, does not return to center of road like it should without holding onto steering wheel very hard and agressively controlling it. It also will veer to the right when driving down the road--even in far left lane--if I direct it left it always veers to the right. Doesn't matter which road I'm on, if I try to lightly have my hands on the wheel which is normal for most vehicles it drifts into the side of the road/curb. My other vehicle, nor my husban'ds vehicle does not do this. It has a severe drift to the right, goes into curb if I don't agressively control when making turns. This has happened for 4 months, took it in, they realigned and it did not solve the problem. Continues to do this. My hands have to be on the wheel very hard to control this vehicle from going into the curb/drifting to the right while driving. I have never had a vehicle do this. Obviously a defect in steering, suspension, or something else. I have michelin tires and aluminum wheels. Many other people have reported this same problem on edmunds. Com Odyssey problems, so I am not the only one who's Odyssey has this safety problem. As far as failure date/how many failures, it has done this for at least 4 months, every time I drive. Thank you.

29 Front Suspension problem of the 2000 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 04/28/2000

Vehicle pulls hard to right. Dealer said vehicle was aligned to specs but had to make some type of front bar adjustment anyway to correct.

30 Front Suspension problem of the 2000 Honda Odyssey

Other problems have included loose gasket at front windshield, sticking left passenger sliding door, squeaky brakes (not yet resolved) and pulling to right hand side of road.

33 Front Suspension problem of the 2002 Honda Odyssey

Vehicle pulls hard to right under acceleration. Dealer unable to fix, and american Honda denied problem existed, calling it a normal characteristic of the vehicle. I personally drove 7 other 2002 Odysseys and determined that this "characteristic" is not normal. Bbb arbitration was used, in which the bbb ruled against Honda. American Honda field engineer attempted to repair twice, but was unsuccessful. In last repair, the van was returned to customer with considerable pull to the left under steady speed, but hard pull to right when accelerating. Bbb ruling indicated that this is a safety issue, and I agree. Queries of internet websites for Odyssey owners indicates this problem does exist on other vehicles. I expect the NHTSA to force Honda to deal honestly with this issue. Dt.
