I brought my van in for service because, when stopped at a traffic light, the vehicle enters automatic shutdown as designed; however, when I release the brake, the engine does not restart. Instead of restarting automatically, the vehicle remains off, and I have had to perform a hard start because it will not crank on its own. The van is a brand-new 2025 Honda that was purchased new. After inspection, I was informed that the battery would need to be replaced. During the same visit, I also reported a vibration issue. After checking this, I was told that the vehicle needs new shocks and that the tires show wear. I was further informed that the tires will not be covered. Given the age of the vehicle and the fact that it was purchased brand new, I am concerned about the need for a battery replacement, suspension repairs, and tire wear at this stage, as well as the decision not to cover the tires.

The vehicle experiences abnormal vibration and shaking felt from the rear during braking at moderate to highway speeds. The condition does not occur during steady driving and is isolated to braking events. An authorized dealership inspected the vehicle and documented rear brake rotor thickness variation but no repair was performed. The issue has continued and raises concerns about braking stability and safety, especially at higher speeds.
Vehicle: 2018 Honda Odyssey component: suspension – rear shock absorbers mileage at failure: ~50,000 miles I am submitting this complaint to report a premature and potentially unsafe failure of the rear shock absorbers on my 2018 Honda Odyssey, as well as what appears to be a systemic defect affecting 2018–2024 Honda Odyssey vehicles. At approximately 50,000 miles, the rear shocks on my vehicle failed suddenly. Inspection revealed that the upper portion of the shock absorber housing had rusted completely through the metal, causing the internal hydraulic fluid to leak out and rendering the shock absorber inoperable. This is not surface corrosion—the metal housing itself failed structurally. The affected component is the factory-installed rear shock absorber, Honda part number 52610-thr-a02. Based on owner reports and service findings, this failure appears to be common across 2018–2024 Honda Odyssey models, typically occurring between 50,000 and 80,000 miles, often shortly after the factory warranty expires. Rear shock absorbers are sealed, safety-critical suspension components. They are not expected to rust through the metal housing or leak fluid within 6–7 years of normal use. This type of failure suggests a materials, coating, or design defect, rather than normal wear and tear. Failure of rear shocks can negatively impact vehicle stability, ride control, braking performance, and passenger safety, particularly in emergency maneuvers or adverse road conditions. Given that the Honda Odyssey is marketed as a family vehicle, this raises significant safety concerns. Due to the repeated nature of this failure across multiple model years, I believe this issue warrants investigation by NHTSA for a potential defect trend and consideration of corrective action.

My wife and I purchased a new 2025 Honda Odyssey van as it currently has about 11,000 miles and we both have noticed a front end vibration/rattle/noise that can be heard and felt in the steering wheel at varying speeds in the front suspension which leads me to believe as an engineer there are issues with sway bar end links, bad strut mounts, or loose control arm bushings that are especially noticeable over any bumps. This issue could pose a serious safety issues in dealing with failed suspension or steering that could cause a potential wreck or loss of control of a vehicle and result in a product liability suit for all parties involved especially given suspension and steering are considered critical auto parts in nature. The problem has been reproduced with my making an appointment at watermark Honda located at 3201 park Ave, paducah, ky 42001 on November 19th, 2025 with the master service tech caleb buchanan and service advisor harley littrell both driving the vehicle and acknowledging the noise and vibration. I also have any recorded video while driving at 5-10 mph in the parking lot of watermark Honda that was shared and viewed by harley littrell. The vehicle was inspected with some strut bolts and other front end component bolts being torqued down the same day with the issue not being resolved. Harley/caleb noted that they were dealing with the same issue on another 2025 Honda Odyssey on the lot to be sold and they were trying to address issues. As of follow-up appointment on 12/11/25, harley noted this van had several front end parts replaced and it still made noise with this van not being able to be sold to the public. I was advised by harley to contact american Honda and to file this report. See uploaded video below.
It is been only 6 years with 100% city and highway driving and dealer informed me that bushings are already cracking and need to be replaced soon. Car is in mint very good conditions with no other issues.

When driving from west hartford to westerly on June 3, serious banging started coming from the left rear undercarriage. I stopped by a local midas shop which identified the problem as a totally broken rear spring which created a dangerous driving situation. At the time, the van had 57k miles on it. The shop strongly advised that we should consider the van as inoperable, and we subsequently had them make repairs. I contacted the dealer, westbrook Honda in westbrook CT,. The service manager relayed that he had never heard of a broken spring on a vehicle with these few miles, but the certified warranty coverage expired in August 2024. He recommended I contact Honda customer service as this failure appeared to warrant consideration due to its rarity and severity. Honda customer service responded by agreeing to cover damage for only half the incurred cost because we didn't bring it to a Honda dealership, despite doing that would have constituted a severe driving safety exposure. Their acknowledgement indicates that this may be evidence of faulty manufacturing of the spring which would appear to warrant NHTSA review and assessment.

Premature failure of rear shock absorbers due to rust, leaking. Unpainted upper portion of shocks rusts out.
Can has been making a popping noise that can be felt in the steering wheel for 2 years. Honda has told me nothing was wrong after taking it in 4 times. Now my car keeps stalling at lights, sometimes it takes a while to get it to restart, and they can not figure out why. They keep saying the battery is fine and diagnostics finds nothing.

A safety-related part, the rear coil spring (pn 52441-thr-a01 / 52441-thr-a11), is not available through Honda’s parts network. Without this part, my vehicle’s safe operation is compromised.
The driver side coil spring broke on the lower end of the spring. It started to sound squeeky after a change in the road or a bump. 2 years ago, the right (passengers) coil spring broke in the middle of the spring on a main highway going 60miles/hr in another state from where we live. The car needed towed then and replaced. I filed a report with you then. No one was hurt either time but could have been. The springs have been on back order. . . . 2 years ago we couldn't get a replacement because they were on back order for 2 years then and needed to get a backup from a juck yard to replace. This time we still can not find a replacement in stock and are afraid the springs are not strong enough for the Honda cars which is why they have been on backup and keep failing. So now they have been on back order for 4 years. My husband's car has springs bigger than what they put on the minivan. And with the part on backorder still. . . I don't think they are good or that Honda wants to replace them. We had to get springs from somewhere else to replace this spring. . . . Causing us to pay for 2 new ones to put on the car. Car is currently in the shop (auto shop) waiting for the parts to arrive from another state to replace. These should definately be recalled! I don not have a heavy family or put heavy stuff in my vehicle but someone is going to get hurt soon. Honda needs to take care of this safety problem and reimburse for all the coil spring problems.
I have been getting front end clunking noise since I bought vehicle. Honda is not able to identify and resolve issue after taking to multiple dealers. And after 5 years and 45k miles white paint started flaking in different penal of car.
2018 to 2024 Honda oddessy rear shocks top rusts prematurely through the metal and leaks out the oil making the shock useless. My 2018 Honda Odyssey with 70k miles rear shocks suddenly broke and top is rusted through the metal and is leaking fluid. Honda factory part number 52610-thr-a02 is forbthe rear shocls common problem with 2018 -2024 Honda odessy with 50k to 80k miles so iust after the dealer factory warrenty runs out. Metal housing on a shock is not supposed to rust through with 7 years of use.
Approximately may 2023, while pulling away from stop light, heard loud pop (like gunshot inside vehicle) and vehicle shuddered/jolted. It feels almost like someone hit vehicle with sledgehammer. I looked underneath but no issues found. No bump in road was hit at the time. December 24th 2024, while moving at less then 5 mph, heard another loud pop and shudder/jolt. Someone sitting in the back thought that something fell on the vehicle. This time noticed that left rear tire was into wheel well with vehicle unloaded. After pulling wheel, found left rear coil spring broken in 2 places. Believe broke first in 23 and again in 24. At time, we were 1200 miles from home and needed to delay trip so Honda in killeen TX could repair. Dealer service advisor stated they had never seen anything like that except from crash. June 19th 2025. On highway doing 70-75 mph when heard another loud pop and shudder. No pot hole or any significant bump hit. Stopped, pulled wheel, and found right rear spring broken. Honda dealership in marysville OH unable to find new spring either through oem or aftermarket. We have also been unable to find aftermarket or junkyards. Being told that there is a nationwide backorder and no eta for when replacment parts are going to start being available. So being forced to continue driving a vehicle that is unsafe. First this does not seem normal for springs just to randomly break. Second for a critical suspension component on a relatively new vehicle, why is manufacturer unable to proved parts. We are now 2 months into it being broken and can't even order replacment parts yet because Honda is not allowing orders to be placed.
On may 25, 2025 I was driving down a local road with several occupants in the van. I did not collide with another car, object my driver side curtain airbags went off trapping me and the occupants in the car. Had to cut the airbags to get out.

The contact owns a 2018 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that while driving approximately 35 mph, the rear end of the vehicle unintendedly lowered. The contact stated that while driving over a bump or depression in the roadway, the vehicle was bouncing. There was no warnings light illuminated. The contact had taken the vehicle to a local dealer where the vehicle was diagnosed, and it was determined that the rear shocks and parts of the rear suspension had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that several months prior to the failure, the front shocks and the steering arms were replaced. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 107,000.
Multiple warnings occurred simultaneously when I started my car I been doing a research on the web I found out that many buyers have the same problem with their van's and already reported here is the list that found 2018 2019 2020 Honda Odyssey touring and ex-l , I found out that the camera/sensor in the windshield (near the rearview mirror). It needed to be replaced. Their camera has an internal failure!!! this needs to be recalled.
Noticed clunking noise from rear of car when going over sharp bumps. Inspecting rear suspension revealed the rear driver side coil spring is broken near the bottom of the coil. Judging by amount of rust on the broken ends this has been broken for some time. Searching online this is a common issue for this generation Odyssey, and Honda do not have replacement springs in stock, with estimated wait time for parts of many months.
Driver rear suspension coil spring broke in half while vehicle was parked. I just got out of the van and there was a loud nose and the van dropped a few inches if I was driving at the time I could have lost control and crashed. Has not been inspected is unavailable for inspection because no replacement part available from Honda part is on back order multiple reports online of the same part breaking sooner. Has not been confirmed by the dealer as dealer doesn't have the part to replace it with.
I took the van into Honda and they said the back 2 rear springs were broken. But the parts (springs) were on back order. I called dealers all over ontario, new york and virginia(because I have family in those states) and discovered that none of them had the part or that if they did they were not allowed to sell them because they had a line up of customers that needed them. One dealer, before I even gave the part number, stopped me and said your calling about the rear springs because they had so many inquiries. To me this sounds like there is an issue with the rear springs for Honda Odyssey from the year 2018-2020 and that this should be a recalled item. No way is it a coincidence that there no springs available because of a random part shortage. It’s more likely it’s a poorly manufactured part and they are all breaking 5-7 years in to their life span. I believe this should be investigated as Honda probably knows the part is defective. This should be a part that is recalled and the cost of repair covered by Honda. Currently my Odyssey can’t e driven for safety reasons until the parts (spring) comes in which could be month. I can give you the dealers I contacted and part number.
I purchased a 2021 Honda Odyssey with 55,000 miles on it. At 57,000 miles with normal driving conditions, I heard a metal on metal noise on rear passenger side. Upon taking it to the mechanic, both rear springs were rusted & broken - essentially giving my van no rear suspension and making it very dangerous to drive. I had to find a new vehicle for my kids for a month and a half as there is no aftermarket part. Honda would not find the part for me and wanted me to work through the dealership, but I did not have the time as this is family vehicle that I need each day. I had an independent mechanic find a pair of springs from a junkyard & he confirmed that in his 40 years of servicing exclusively Hondas, he's never seen springs fail like this at this mileage. He expected a faulty part. I drove this vehicle multiple times thinking that it was safe & only something loose in the car. At any moment, the suspension could have failed & caused a serious accident. I do have the springs & have attached photos. Component has not been inspected by anyone other than myself & mechanic. No prior warnings or messages noting a problem.
While driving on highway rear left spring which is a ver heavy duty spring broke into pieces without any accident but could have caused catastrophic event. This needs to be investigated as per even dealer said this is very unusual , this sprng coil never breaks and could cause death. This is a metallic issue with mattel.
The contact owns a 2019 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that while his wife was exiting a parking lot driving approximately 5 mph, the passenger’s side rear of the vehicle unintendedly lowered approximately 8 inches. The vehicle was towed to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the passenger’s side rear coil spring needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired due to parts being unavailable. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 38,000.
Three times now our 2020 Honda Odyssey's entire instrument and infotainment system has gone out - both screens at the same time just don't turn on. Which means we have no mph gauge or back up camera. It is extremely unsafe to drive without a speedometer and we paid extra to get a van with a backup camera and now we don't even have that. We've taken it to Honda and are getting charged to replace the entire system, even though it is clearly a connection issue (since it turns back on by itself). On the exact same vehicle, the entire right rear shock is completely blown out and needs replaced. Both happened with no warning. Honda is not helping on a vehicle that only has 40,000 miles on it.
The contact owns a 2019 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that while driving at 40 mph, the vehicle hit a bump the rear end stated to shake. No warning lights were illuminated. The contact stated that he was able to drive the vehicle however, when a bump was hit the rear end would bounce several times. The contact stated he had a friend drive the vehicle and confirmed that there was an issue with the rear end of the vehicle. The vehicle was then taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed the failure as rusted rear struts for the passenger and driver side as well as one of the struts was broken. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacture notified of the failure however, the contact was unaware of a case was opened. The failure mileage was approximately 40,000.
Passenger side sliding door jammed halfway open and would not close or open. Had to have the car towed to the mechanic and have all components of sliding door replaced (twice!). Driver's side strut spring broke under normal use - with 62000 miles on the vehicle. Now rear backup camera/gps/radio unit has ceased working at all. Passenger side door also randomly begins to close part way through opening, nearly injuring my child's friend who was exiting the vehicle.

Vehicle makes noise at low speed when turning at inclined or passing over speed bump. I went 4 different dealers regarding this problem but they can not figure out the problem. First, dealership said nothing wrong with vehicle. Then I took van to different dealer and they replaced front driver side strut. After few days started hearing noise again. So I took van to different dealership and they retorque sub frame bolt and said problem is fixed. Again, I heard the noise next day so I took it dealership again. After looking at vehicle, they concluded that bushing is making noise but they refused to replace it. I have looked at Honda Odyssey forum and redditt, it is known problem with Honda Odyssey and they are unable to fix the problem.

2015 Honda Odyssey steering rack leaked while driving vehicle on the highway and front lower control arm bushing broke due to age of the vehicle. Honda dealer has suggested not to drive vehicle until steering rack is replaced/fixed. Honda dealer has warned as it is safety hazard to other vehicles on the road. Vehicle component was inspected by Honda dealer and has recommended to replace steering rack as it is leaking. There were no warning lamps, message or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure. It was diagnosed by Honda dealer during multipoint inspection.

The original tires on this car needed to be changed around 20k miles. I asked the dealer to align it in 2021 after getting new tires. I barely put 8k miles per year on this minivan. Recently when I went for a rotation I was told that they are wearing unevenly. I went to get an alignment and was told that the rear driver camber was out of spec and the rear passenger toe was out of spec. The problem is that you are unable to make those adjustments on the rear. This means that it came like this out of the factory and is rapidly wearing tires on the vehicles. I did a search online and found other people from 2019 model years who experience this issue. I had the knuckle on the passenger side replaced for $900. But then found out about the drivers side toe being out of spec. I find this abominable that the car came from the factory out of spec in the steering/suspension. There's no way I could have hit something hard enough to knock it out of spec without there being other damage to the car. I would like Honda to reimburse me the cost and to fix the steering knuckle for the rear drivers side. I also would like a safety notice issued to people that their tires may wear rapidly due to inability to adjust camber/toe on the rear. I only noticed now when I go to get the tires aligned. Its been 5 years I had the car.
The contact owns a 2018 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated while driving at approximately 70 mph, there was a loud bang followed by a rattling sound coming from the passenger’s side rear tire. The vehicle was steered to the side of the road and parked. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the suspension spring needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 101,000.
Unable to fully align tires specifically rear camber of the wheels. There is no adjustment only option presented is an aftermarket solution.

Passenger rear shock absorber separated at the top of the outer tube. Complete loss of damping and most of the shock oil. The shock absorber was in two pieces. Photos attached.
The inside shoulder of all four tires are bald and unsafe. The rest of the tire tread has ~7/32 of depth remaining. Because this suspension issue only affects the inside edge of the tire it is difficult to detect. Not all gen 5 Honda Odysseys have this problem but I've read of others with the same problems as mine. The tires cross the threshold of 2/32" by approx. 23k miles. When the rest of the tire still looks good the avg consumer is not inspecting the inner shoulder because it would require tire removal or getting under the vehicle. Therefore, the issue goes undetected until a traction event occurs.
Vibration between 30-40 mph is usually caused by axles of this car, 06-09 models, that might have safe issue in long run.

Both front coil springs broke resulting in a jagged piece of metal coming loose from the vehicle. The first spring broke and was replaced in 2020 and just replaced the other side in 2022. The vehicle currently only has about 95,000 miles. Wanted to report this because I have never had a vehicle break on coil spring, much less two in such a short time period.
