1 Headlights problem of the 2019 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 01/11/2019

Since I purchased this vehicle the headlights dim way down and sometimes change intensity greatly every single time the a/c compressor clutch engages and draws current. All lighting across every system in the vehicle dims way down as well. That is, interior illumination, instrument console and panel, exterior marker lights. All lighting dims when the compressor clutch engages. The local dealership has tried a few things as instructed by the manufacturer but the situation has not been corrected. While out on freeways at night following behind other vehicles, the driver will become annoyed in front thinking that I am purposefully flickering or flashing the headlights to encourage them to speed up or move out of the way. This can cause a dangerous situation. This situation has been present since the vehicle was purchased in November 2018 and remains.

2 Headlights problem of the 2018 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 12/27/2017

Headlights: when the van was purchased I discovered several days later that the drivers side headlight was not working. Discovered the lights was not plugged in. December 18 & 27 the anti-theft system disabled. The dealership picked up van and said they repaired. I was told there was a connection that was not securely clipped together. When this happened I had been parked and away from the van for at least an hour on both occasions. When I started it to leave the error message was on the screen. Immediately contacted the dealership both times.

3 Headlights problem of the 2007 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 03/10/2017

Both clear glass covers ["lenses"?] over the headlights have developed a spiderweb network of cracks, very thin, over the entire lens. The car was never hit. It occurred gradually over time. It is a safety issue, because it diminishes the light output, and leads oncoming traffic to at times flash ther headlights as if my brights are on.

While parked, when starting the vehicle, the headlights and windshield wipers will not come on. After about an hour, they come back on. Happened twice so far. Only 9000 miles on the vehicle. The dealer says they have never heard of this. Can't find the cause of the problem.

6 Headlights problem of the 2015 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 07/09/2015

This was our first experience driving our new 2015 Honda Odyssey after dark. It was frightening when we found ourselves on a familiar country road and unable to see the usual landmarks which tell us where we are. The problem is with the low beam headlights. Illuminated vision is very bright on the road close to the vehicle but there is a line midway up the windshield above which it is totally black. This line bobs up and down with curves and dips in the road in a distracting manner which prevents your vision focusing. The light also does not extend very far in front of the vehicle even on flat parts of the road. This is begging for an accident. We could easily have hit a deer or even a human being walking or bicycling on the road had there been one. We stopped driving after dark until we could get an appointment with our dealership. Our dealer's mechanic informed us that cannot be fixed. He also said the chevy malibu has the same problem. I have located an online forum where the same problem is described for a 2011 Honda Odyssey and Honda's response to them was the same as to us. . Read more...

8 Headlights problem of the 2012 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 09/01/2012

Headlights are aimed too low, dealership is charging me $85 dollars to have it adjusted as they said it is not covered by warranty, vehicle was leased as new; adjusted it myself but it is at the highest setting and still too low, added factory fog lamps but did not really help with forward illumination, lights are overrun by vehicle on highways going 65-70 mph. Vehicle is still under warranty , but I'm waiting for Honda to recall and replace these poorly designed headlamps. I do a lot of night driving as I work nights, I was not able to catch this on the test drive, as test drives are usually done in broad daylight.

9 Headlights problem of the 2012 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 08/15/2012

I just bought a 2012 Honda Odyssey. At night you can not see very well with the headlights. It leaves bad visualization of the road. It is like a black curtain over your windshield in dark country roads. I almost went into a ravine. Thank goodness I was going slow. I do not take this route much. But when going into very dark areas. It is a complete black out. I took it back to my dealer in mentor, ohio. At classic and the service man was very rude. And looked at me like I was out of my mind. I am a night nurse. Drive my kids around for functions. This really scares me. I see there are several other complaints. This is suppose to be a family vehicle. A safe vehicle. I see now why they need a good crash rating. It could happen cause of these headlights. Please help!.

10 Headlights problem of the 2012 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 11/03/2011

Brand new vehicle, new model year, could be one of first. Headlights are as bright as the sun. Any bump or incline puts headlights into oncoming driver eyes. Majority flash me that my high beams are on. They are not. Honda says all perfect. I cannot look into light - it is sun-like. My headlights come up into oncoming eyes constantly - Honda says aimed perfectly. I assert that this is simply highly dangerous; Honda will do nothing for me. All is perfect, they say. Even if I don't cause someone else's accident, the quantity of people flashing me appears to be evidence of spreading anger, because I can do nothing. My sun-like lights 'flash' them again and again. Pity the poor driver in front of me, in my lane. My bulbs are halogen, not the 'high intensity discharge' type.

11 Headlights problem of the 2011 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 10/15/2011

The headlights on the Odyssey illuminate too close to the car and not far enough down the road to see and it exasperated on hills going down where you really can't see ahead of your vehicle. At night there is a sharp black line on the wind shield where the lights stop illuminating above the line. I have to bend my head side ways to see under the black line where the light is. Very unsafe. I asked the Honda dealer about it and they said that the lights were at the correct level. I told them I can't see unless I bend my head side ways to see under the black line where the light illuminates the road. They raised the lights up for me a bit and now everyone flashes their lights at me indicating my lights are too bright. It is a disaster waiting to happen.

15 Headlights problem of the 2000 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 08/10/2009

Hazy headlamps. This is a quote from popular mechanics that describes my problem better than I could: "most cars and a lot of trucks today are manufactured with headlamp assemblies that use quartz-halogen bulbs plugged into the back of a large plastic reflector. The outer surface of these headlamp modules is molded polycarbonate plastic. That plastic is much lighter than glass and far more resistant to stone chips and cracks. However, after a few years of exposure to sunlight and atmospheric chemicals, polycarbonate has a tendency to get hazy. " recently I thought one of my headlamps had gone out on my 2000 Honda Odyssey. Turned out the plastic headlamp cover is was just a total haze & mess and really knocking down the lamp light. I suspect the amount of light from my headlight is diminished by at least 50 percent, maybe more. Looking at other various other cars on a trip through a parking lot shows tons of others with identical problems. Not a hard problem to confirm. So my question why does the government permit car makers to use plastic for headlamp covers when every single car will, in time, have significantly diminished headlight output as a result of this hazy business? seems we're putting everybody at risk just to save a few bucks. This is clearly a safety issue. The simple, rational, intelligent solution seems to go back to requiring glass headlamp covers. Problem solved. Thanks for listening!.

16 Headlights problem of the 2007 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 02/01/2009

My complaint regarding my Honda Odyssey may be more of a manufacturer oversight that may not pose an immediate harm to its occupants/other drivers, but rather potential harm to its occupants other drivers. The problem is with the lights. The interior dash lights are on continuously, but the headlights only go on manually. While this is fine during the day, it poses the potential harm at night when the dash lights go on and they headlights do not. I live in a city and a few times at night while leaving a very lit area, I have failed to turn on my headlights because with the dashlights on I have forgotten. While these occurrences were my error, I feel that with car lighting it needs to be all or nothing. While the manufacturers may see this feature as a convenience I see it as a hazard. If the dash lights are on all of the time, then the headlights should be on. Driving without headlights on at night is hazardous to all around and as I said, I live in a city where it is brightly lit and many times the streets are so bright my headlights do not make that much of a difference for my lighting but rather just make me noticeable to others. I feel that this issue needs to be addressed and rectified. I know that other cars have an auto function, where the headlights can be left on all of the time to go on when it gets dark and this would be a safer feature than having them manually operated when the dash lights are on all of the time. Or they can make it so that the dash lights go on when the headlights are turned on. Like I said, with lights is needs to be all or nothing (all manual or all automatic, not half and half). It is just too confusing and in my case, likely to be forgotten. While this issue may not have caused harm yet, I do believe that it has sufficient potential to cause harm and therefore should be addressed. This is a failure on the manufacturers part to save money, but it has made a Mini van (which is known for safety) to feel unsafe. Estimated date.

Failure Date: 08/13/2008

The contact owns a 2000 Honda Odyssey with sylvainia silverstar ii, model number 90003/hb2 (na). The epc code is 046135317279. The contact purchased replacement headlight bulbs and eight months later, the light fixture failed. He feels that the light fixture should at least last a couple of years. He also feels that the bulbs may fail without warning due to the 200 hours of light the fixture offers. The manufacturer stated that the lights were designed to last only 200 hours and no compensation would be made. The mileage was not applicable.

22 Headlights problem of the 2005 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 11/08/2005

Driving a 2005 Honda Odyssey, down a 2-lane country road at night in November, a deer was in the field. I slowed down because I did not know what the deer would do and there was another car that was going to pass me coming the other direction. When the deer saw my headlights, he ran into the passenger side breaking the headlight and denting the panel above the tire. No air bags deployed. I got out to check the damage and realized the van was still drivable. I put on my hazard lights and drove slowly less than 25 miles per hour. I than saw flames coming from the hood on the passenger side near the broken headlight. I pulled off the road onto the grass, turned off the car, got out and called 911. By the time the fire department came, the van was engulfed in flames under the hood and the flames were hitting the grass. The passenger side tire popped under the heat of the flames. The insurance company deemed the van a total loss. Information from insurance company said the computer behind the halogen light was the cause of the fire.
