Rearview System Braking Problems of Honda Odyssey

Multipurpose camera failure, all advanced safety systems were affected (adaptive cruise, lane keep assist, blind spot warning, rear cross traffic warning, auto-dim headlights, etc) also, caused engine light, brake system and transmission system errors to appear but they were cleared by replacing the camera with no apparent damage to the actual systems. Replaced at a dealership for a total cost for parts and labor $2200+.

I hear a popping/crackling noise from the speakers then I get complete network loss for my backup camera, my dvd player, my clock, maps etc. System does a report after 5+ minutes. Message displayed before everything goes black is network connection lost and most net off. This issue is ongoing and seems to happen now every day sometimes multiple times in a driving session. It just started about 2 weeks ago. There is an active recall for this exact issue for 2021 Honda Odysseys but my VIN does not seem to be included.

About 5 warning lights came on simultaneously keeping me from driving my vehicle safely.

Over 8 multiple safety warnings turned up on dashboard on many occasions while driving. Also, vehicle fails to issue a code on obd and Honda rep claims they’ve never seen anything like this after showing them video proof of multiple occurrences. I’ve seen many complaints online. My wife drives this vehicle with young children and doesn’t feel safe while driving it because of it stating multiple safety warnings.

When I bought the van used in 2023 at a dealership, they were working on the tailgate of the van. They stated it was a factory default that the module had. They did not go into further detail. I started getting a message on the dash panel that the power tailgate system had a problem. I also got messages stating the thee reverse collision system stopped working, transmission system had problems, the keyless starting system problems. This was happening after a rain occurance. I took it to the Honda dealer, they did not know how to fix this. I took it to my mechanic and he found water is getting thru the roof rack rail gulley, leaking down the back drivers side interior panel on to the tailgate control module. I have to take the van to a body shop, so they can fix the affected area. I have the part my mechanic replaced. It is clearly water damaged. The day he fixed my van, it had rained and malfunctioned again. Right now I have the module hanging in the cargo area, outside of the interior panel, so it does not get wet when it rains.

Team Honda in merrillville refused to fix my recall unless I paid for diagnostics.

I started the vehicle and it displayed a message on the infotainment system screen that the system had lost power. I believed that this would only affect the radio functionality which I was not concerned about immediately. I placed the vehicle in reverse and I accidentally backed up into a parked car. At no point before the accident did I realize the rear camera did not work and the collision assistance sensors did not function. I believe if the collision avoidance system was working correctly my accident would have been prevented. I have come to depend on the safety features of this vehicle. I know that this is not an issue with my car battery as I recently had a Honda dealer install a new battery prior to this accident and the vehicle started normally.

We bought a used 2020 Honda Odyssey, and a few months after buying this vehicle, the infotainment screen blanked out and the vehicle information screen also blinked out. This occurred at the same time with no warning whatsoever. I just turned on the car, and none of the screens came on. These screens are the ones that show the mph, our mileage, cruise control, etc, and also the screen that shows the back up camera, in car calling, back up alert system. None of that works anymore. We made an appointment to take it to a Honda dealership and a few days later it flickered back on and so we did not keep the appointment. Just a month and a half later, it happened again and this time it has not come back on for over a month. We took it to the dealership and were charged $200 for them to tell us it was something wrong with the Honda computer system and the whole thing would need replaced and we would be charged $1800. This is on a barely 4-year-old vehicle & we did not have the money to replace a defective system. So we have been driving without a mph display. We put our phones up on the dashboard and try a gps mph app, but it is wildly inaccurate, and it is a major safety concern because we have no idea what speed we’re going and we have to guess. This is a car with low mileage and barely 4 years old!! we paid a lot of money for the back up camera, in car calling, and extra features like that specifically for the safety of those features. And now we’re being told that basically they can’t find the problem and we have to pay $1800 for those rather high-priority safety features like knowing how fast you’re going. I also have a newly licensed teenage driver and another who will get her temps in 2 months. I can’t even let them drive our vehicle because they certainly don’t have the experience necessary to drive with no speedometer. We live in a state that doesn’t allow handling a phone in any way. This vehicle helped me comply with that & now I must use a phone to show my mph.

As from the year of 2019 to 2024, I was received a lot of this vehicle safety recall, I went to the Honda service dealer to repair my vehicle but unfortunately they refused and respond repaired service on my vehicle at all times for a reasons is no parts, up to now my vehicle is still not recovered any safety recall service from Honda dealers.

The rear camera is missing items that aren’t moving behind the car. Like a parked car or person. When backing up. Will recognize to the sides of the object is moving but not directly behind the car or fully stationary items.

When coming to a stop, usually in stop / go traffic and at times when coming to a complete stop, the auto-idle stop kicks in, but then immediately shuts the engine down and shifts vehicle into park. Vehicle has to be entirely shut down and restarted to bring the engine back. We have been taking the vehicle to the dealership since we bought it a couple of years ago. Seems to be mostly occurring in warm summer months. Also affects the audio entertainment, all sounds stop. And after the most recent repair by the dealership (replacing the tuner), the display screen will not come on for 10-15 min when first starting the vehicle (including the back-up cam and warnings).

The rear view camera on this car is defective. Honda and the dealership appear to be playing games with customers stating that they will get this dealt with but no eta has been forthcoming the whole of 2022.

I have been unable to complete recall of rear camera repair.

The infotainment screen went dark during the trip causing loss of navigation guidance, loss of safety features such as back up camera and rear cross traffic warning. It caused loss of climate control as well as every single option related to and/or activated via infotainment display (wifi hotspot, bluetooth function, navigation, etc. . ).

Backup camera stopped displaying and cross traffic monitor non functional. No warning or impaired function before system failure. All fuses checked ok.

Back up sensors stopped working 4 months after purchasing a brand new vehicle. Also the side sensor just randomly lights up when there’s nothing around or the brake light pops up.

2019 Odyssey reverse camera has failed multiple times. Sometimes will work on next vehicle start, sometimes it takes a few days. Reported to Honda dealer prior to recall in June 2020. Have been waiting over 11 months for recall replacement part and I am told over and over that replacement part is not available and no eta is available. Also have trouble with cross traffic sensors, dealer unable to tell me if this related.
