Engine problems of the 1999 Honda Passport

Three problems related to engine have been reported for the 1999 Honda Passport. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Engine problem

Failure Date: 11/10/2003

While driving my 1999 Honda Passport, the vehicle turned off and I pulled over to the side of the road. I had the vehicle towed to grand Honda in elmhurst illinois on November 10, 2003. The vehicle remained at the dealer for several weeks and then was told that they did not know what was wrong with the vehicle but they thought the engine needed to be replaced. I asked what happened to the engine and they said they were unsure, but thought that I needed to have mine replaced. I agreed and they later told me they were not able to find a reasonably priced engine and that it would be cheaper for me to take my SUV somewhere else. I contacted Honda corporate and was told the same. Honda did not stand behind their vehicle. The Honda dealer told me to have my vehicle picked up. I arranged for a tow truck to pick up my vehicle and deliver it to my home. When the vehicle arrived at my home Honda had not even put the vehicle back together. I paid them $290 to tell me that they could not repair my vehicle. I contacted both the dealer and the corporate office and was told that the $290 was only to take the vehicle apart not put it back together. I believe that my engine is defective.

2 Engine problem

Failure Date: 04/01/2003

Immediately after having an oil change the vehicle registered low oil level. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who determined that the discontinued engine was the cause.

3 Engine problem

The engine consumed an excessive amount of oil, the manufacturer stated it was normal.
