Electrical System Problems of Honda Passport - part 2

The seat memory of the vehicle will reset itself every few days. This is while using the same key fob and driver profile. Android auto does not stay connected wired or wireless. This is after the vehicle has been factory reset, new cables used and phone reset. Buzzing/ grinding noise while breaking blind spot sensors do not beep while the setting is activated to beep.

On 05/05/2026 I was driving my 2026 Honda Passport, while driving I suddenly had multiple warning lights display. The following alerts popped up on my dash, electric power steering problem, hill start assist problem, road departure mitigation system problem, trailer assist system problem, collision mitigation system problem, hill descent system problem. Once these alerts popped up, I immediately took vehicle to dealership. While in route to dealership, all of the lights reset, and the dealer completed a diagnostic and informed me that they could not find any codes or issues. On 05/06/2026c I was driving this same vehicle, traveling approximately 40 mph. While traveling all of the same lights re-appeared and I lost all steering to the vehicle, I almost crashed the vehicle and was almost hit by other vehicles, while trying to slow the vehicle, due to not having any steering to the vehicle. I was able to get the vehicle to stop, and immediately had it towed to the dealership. This vehicle has approximately 4,632 miles. The dealership has not notified me what the issue is text but this vehicle is dangerous. If this issue is not resolved or a recall conducted for this issue, people are going to get seriously injured or killed. Currently I am employed as a deputy us marshal, and was a prior police officer for 12 years. My only reason in stating this, is I have bared witness to many fatality accidents in my years as a law enforcement officer, and quite frankly I do not feel comfortable in letting my wife drive this vehicle, with my children in it. This issue is going to get people hurt.

At red light, foot on break, car in drive. Light turns green, I go to drive off. Car puts itself in neutral, dash says “shift to park”, I try to press to put it in drive, it won’t shift to “d”. I put it in park. Turned the vehicle off, car wouldn’t restart. Kept trying, wouldn’t start. Held my finger on the push to start for ~1 minute, it did not want to start at all. It was spitting trying to start, very very hesitant was in accident on 2/26/26 l front (driver side) was damaged since accident, I have had issues even though car was repaired.

Vehicle: 2026 Honda Passport VIN: [xxx] mileage at time of most recent incident: ~16,795 miles dealer(s): garcia Honda, albuquerque, nm (selling dealer); Honda of santa fe (servicing dealer) complaint narrative: I am experiencing recurring electrical system failures and brake-related warning malfunctions in my 2026 Honda Passport that have required three separate repair attempts: [xxx] (ro [xxx]): auto stop/start system shut down unexpectedly. Dealer installed a software update. Vehicle died while driving, [xxx] (ro [xxx]): vehicle died while driving, with hazard lights inoperative. As of 9/22/2026, the vehicle remains at the dealership and has been disassembled for diagnosis. These are not isolated incidents — the 2026 Passport has multiple other owner-reported complaints to NHTSA describing unexpected shutdowns, brake system warnings activating without cause, and safety features engaging unexpectedly, suggesting a pattern consistent with an underlying electrical/braking system defect rather than a vehicle-specific issue. The unpredictable nature of these failures — sudden shutdown while driving, loss of hazard lights, and unexplained brake warnings — poses an ongoing safety risk to myself and other drivers. The contact owns a 2025 Honda Passport. The contact stated that while attempting to drive from a complete stop, the accelerator pedal was depressed, but the vehicle stalled. The message to start the vehicle was displayed. The vehicle was shifted into park(p), the brake pedal was depressed, and the vehicle was restarted. The contact stated that the failure had occurred ten times in the month of July. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed with a faulty battery, and the battery was replaced; however, the failure recurred approximately one week later. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 22,000.

After having constant issues with the idle stop and the car alarm going off in the middle of the night and day for no apparent reason I took it to the dealer to get it fixed. After supposedly fixing the idle stop, about two weeks later I was going up a ramp during a heavy traffic hour and the car completely shot down. It took me a few minutes to get it back on. I’ve had issues with this car from day one (brand new). I’m currently trying to get another car.

Radio/screen/back-up camera do not turn on or turn off randomly and unexpectedly when driving. Usually receive a crackling sound and a most off network message before black screen. Upon initial start up of vehicle, a driver sets car to reverse relying and expecting a functional view of rear camera on screen. This issue makes backing up safety features unreliable.

The infotainment screen on my 2022 Honda Passport is constantly blacking out or freezing up. In addition to no use of radio or gps when this happens, there is also no backup camera or rear cross traffic warning. This creates a safety issue. The vehicle has been to the dealer twice. While they can see the problem, they indicated there's no fault code, therefore they don't know know how to proceed with a repair. I opened a case with Honda customer service but was told they couldn't do anything and I need to talk to the service manager at the dealer, or just go to a different dealer or Honda service center.

Every so often, while waiting at a light, once I try to press the gas, the car will stall and loses power. It takes me turning the car off and back on several times before getting the car to stay on and accelerate.

Even after recall repairs the vehicle continues to randomly display error messages with vehicle systems while driving. It has been cleared several times and battery changed but continues to return. This model has serious issues with the electrical components.

My vehicle has experienced multiple dangerous incidents where it shuts down or shifts into neutral while driving. This has happened on highways, tunnels, busy on-ramps and main streets. The car loses power and requires restarting, which takes about 30 seconds. On a busy highway or street, this is enough time for a serious accident to occur if other vehicles cannot switch lanes on time. This has happened multiple times with my child in the car, and me being currently pregnant. The vehicle has never given me a warning prior. The issue appears to be related to the auto start/stop system and/or electrical drivetrain controls. The vehicle is unsafe to operate because the driver can forget to disable auto start/stop and the car can suddenly lose power in traffic. There was also a separate incident (in between the multiple incidents above) where I was on the highway, my car accelerated, brakes wouldn't work, and my foot wasn't on the gas. The car then shifted to neutral and the only way I could stop was by shutting it off and moving to the breakdown lane. There have been two repair attempts. The first repair was done in 2024 after the initial loss-of-power incident related to the auto start/stop feature. In this repair, the battery was replaced and I was told a full diagnostic was run and the car was safe to drive. On 11/11/25 the serious incident with acceleration/ loss of brake function on the highway occurred. A full diagnostic was run and the transmission was replaced under warranty. However, a month after the transmission replacement, the loss of power issue returned. It has now been at least 4 incidents since the transmission was changed. I reported this to Honda corporate and received a case number, but despite multiple attempts to receive an update over the past 2 months, I have not been contacted by Honda, and no resolution has been provided. I do not feel safe driving this vehicle and no longer trust further repairs.

Honda has a recall on certain VIN numbers for the starter. My starter I was told to replace at a $2500 fee from reggie jackson Honda in raleigh nc. I had to visit the dealership 3 times, they said its the battery, replaced the battery at my cost, now they said its the starter. They said there is a recall but my VIN number was not included in the recall. The starter is worn out from the auto start and stop feature at stop lights. My issue is it will stop at a stop light and it wont start again then a warning comes on the screen about collision detection issue, then the warning goes away quickly and eventually I will get it to start but it is a safety issue that Honda is aware of. I am asking Honda to do partial credit on repair costs, but I dont understand why my VIN number was excluded. The managers name was ruben lopez who informed me that the starter is causing issues, and sometimes its the battery, but that my VIN wasnt covered. I just want my vehicle to not get stuck at after stopping in traffic when Honda knows of the issue it should be covered for a lifetime warranty or recall. The stopping issue where it wont start again happens approximately 1 time per month, and seems to be in warmer weather but I cannot confirm this nor do I keep an exact log of when it happens. The starter failed to start the car due to what is described as a "frozen starter". A TSB exists for Honda where the problem is acknowledged, TSB 23-023. This left me stranded in the cold on 1/26 and 1/27. Many other drivers of similar vehicles have reported this problem in the past week. The problem is uniquely and disconcertingly dangerous as the problem impacts drivers who are in freezing conditions which can be inherently life-threatening if a known issue exists with a "frozen starter", this problem cannot be rectified by vehicle maintenance, for example, having a new battery or jump starter does not fix the problem. This problem strikes drivers in freezing and life-threatening conditions and is inherently unsafe and hazardous. The vehicle has not been inspected as Honda would not honor rectifying this issue for an "out of warranty" vehicle despite widespread concern. There were no warnings or messages prior to the problem. They first appeared in freezing cold after a precipitation event.

2022 Passport was driven from indianapolis in to naperville IL on the evening of Jan 24th experiencing snowy and freezing conditions. Car was left overnight outside and would not start on the morning of the 25th. Warning lights displayed were battery and flashing engine light, one click on start up but no other noises. On the morning of the 26ths aaa provided services to try and jump the battery and eventually had to tow vehicle to valley Honda aurora IL for service. Vehicle under went troubleshooting on the morning of the 28th after being left outside. Vehicle still refused to start tech suggested replacement of starter or iaw Honda service bulletin 23-010 and 23-023 letting vehicle starter thaw. Vehicle was brough inside into a warm environment overnight and started on Thursday the 29th. There were no prior indicators of issues until the morning of the 25th.

Car shuts down and does not restart. Also goes to neutral and does not allow car to be steered. Also seems to be related to auto restart.

The safety features connected to the camera and vehicle sensors have all stopped working. Every time I start my car, multiple lights come on and dashboard messages that cruise control, lane assist and collision prevention systems are not working. The dealership quoted me $2300 to fix and said new sensors/computer system would need to be put in and calibrated. I tried putting a new battery in, which unfortunately did not help. I have heard of multiple other Passport drivers having this issue.

Was at a red light and the car just shut off. Nothing! after about 5-10 seconds I pushed the start stop button and it hesitated for a few seconds and I let go and then tried it again. It hesitated and then came on. No problem the rest of the day. I have had the car for a year and zeo issues with the. My mother had it for 3 years previously and she never had the issue. The battery is good (and only 1 year old) because I put it on my tester a few months ago. 70,000 miles. I looked up the symptoms and found that this has been an on going issue for a few years. Not new. I reached out to Honda and they said I have to have it diagnosed and pay for it.

I am on my second 2026 Honda Passport. The first one was taken to dealership 6 times (once at red rock Honda in colorado and 5 times at cleo bay in texas) for a failed part in the steering wheel. The airbag and other parts were replaced and would fail again afterward. I had to replace it with another of the same vehicle because of so many problems and no suitable repair. My new 2026 Honda Passport started having same issue. I took it in and they replaced the whole steering wheel and then after about a month it failed again. There have been clicking and loose spring noises in steering wheel and now the brake. The dealership is requiring that I drive the car from my home to there (92 miles one way) and is refusing to tell me that this seemingly unknown issue is not a safety concern. My case numbers with Honda corporate are 15880428 for the first car and 16204405 for the second car.

Forward collision, adaptive cruise control and all enhanced safety features related to the camera and front of vehicle sensor stopped working. Vehicle warning lights and messages do light up for every start. Only option has been to have a $2,500 repair bill for a 6 year old vehicle to install a new camera system by the dealer. This a well known manufacturer issue among owners. Infotainment system is losing network connections and completely going black. The system is only available for brief stretches after restarting the vehicle and will go black while driving. There is a known recall for the coaxial cable (most connection loss) but apparently my vehicle is not part of this recall. Again this is a well known manufacturer issue with this year and model vehicle. Appears to be a wiring harness issue or improper wiring installation by manufactuer.

Vehicle has been having ais issues for a couple of years, requiring new batteries, new starter/relays and countless internal computer updates (none of which have helped btw. . . ). This morning she had the ais engaged, went to turn left at a green light and when she released the brake the vehicle threw itself into neutral and flashed a "auto idle stop system problem" message on the dash. She put it into park and tried to restart, which failed, she then had to turn the vehicle off completely and restart from there. As I mentioned, none of the computer updates Honda has done for this vehicle have helped and it's my understanding there is a block of vehicles in this age range (all Passports, ridgelines and pilots) that continue to have problems with the ais as well. Honda needs to disable this "feature" on any vehicles they cannot fix via computer updates immediately before they get someone killed. Not to mention, we are sick and tired of having to replace the battery and/or starter every couple of years. Honda should not be putting tax breaks above their customers safety and satisfaction. You know it's bad when their 30+ year techs go out of their way to buy a used Honda just to avoid the ais because they don't know what to do with it at this point either.

Case #[xxx] – outstanding concerns case #[xxx] 2026 Honda Passport, VIN: [xxx]. As we discussed, I am requesting that american Honda motor CO. Voluntarily repurchase my 2026 Honda Passport trailsport elite. March 9, 2026: during a scheduled oil change, I reported the phone echo and infotainment concerns. The dealership was unable to duplicate the issue at that time. May 27, 2026: vehicle evaluated for recurring infotainment concerns. The issues were not resolved. June 1, 2026: vehicle returned for continued infotainment concerns. The issues remained unresolved. June 19, 2026: the dealership replaced the entire infotainment/head unit. Unfortunately, the original defects persisted immediately following the repair. In addition, Honda released an over-the-air (ota) software update in March 2026. That update also did not resolve the infotainment defects. Since purchasing the vehicle in late October 2025, I have experienced persistent infotainment defects, including a phone echo affecting the receiving party on every outgoing phone call. Since I began formally documenting the issues in March 2026, I have documented 21 infotainment freezes and screen blackout incidents. These issues began shortly after I purchased the vehicle in November 2025 but were not individually documented until March. The multiple issues with my infotainment system screen blacking out while driving is a significant safety concern and prohibits my ability to safely use my car for maps and gps road conditions in the daily mountain areas I drive safely. Despite my attempt to bring this to Honda corporate on two separate occasions, they are dismissing the case. Honda engineers have admitted as of July 2, 2026 in writing that this is a known issue and they are admitted in writing, there is no fix. My Honda dealer has worked relentlessly to try to help me and Honda corporate customer service has dismissed me. No incident has occurred. However, my concern is that a recall was issued on February 1, 2024 (NHTSA recall number 24v-064), and as of October 31, 2025, Honda is still stating that parts are not available to complete the repair. I first contacted Honda in March 2025—over a year after the recall was issued—and was informed that the necessary parts were still unavailable. I called again in October 2025, and received the same response. We are now approaching two years since this recall was announced, and it is unacceptable and inexcusable that Honda has yet to provide the parts needed to correct this safety issue.

Car would not start. Jump start immediate remedy, also same as before. Symptoms identical to those that occurred prior to the service work performed by elmhurst Honda for the Honda idle stop recall (service bulletin 23-009).

While driving the instrument panel went off for several seconds there is a recall for 2019 Passports for this issue but not my VIN.

To preface: all of these issues only occur when the engine idle feature is on. I have not experienced any of these problems when the feature is off. Question #1: when I release the brake with the engine idle on, the vehicle will sometimes completely shut off. When this happens, the steering wheel and brakes lock up, and I am unable to restart the vehicle for at least 60 seconds. Question #2: on one occasion, my wife, our 8-month-old child, and I were stuck at a green light for about 60 seconds while unable to restart the vehicle. Cars were passing by at over 50 mph, and we were relying on other drivers to notice us in time. This situation has happened multiple times and poses a serious safety risk to both us and others on the road. Question #3: I have not taken the vehicle in for service because the issue is difficult to reproduce consistently. That uncertainty is part of the problem, along with the anxiety of not knowing whether the car will suddenly shut off. Question #4: for the same reason, I have not been able to demonstrate the problem on demand. However, the main concern is that I should not have to worry about my vehicle stalling when I go to accelerate. Question #5: the vehicle has completely shut off four separate times over the past year. On one occasion, after releasing the brake, the engine struggled to reach normal rpms and the check engine light came on. I pulled over, turned the vehicle off, restarted it, and it seemed fine afterward, although it had noticeably less power while the check engine light was on. Lastly, there have been several instances where the engine did not completely shut off when the idle feature was on, but when I released the brake to accelerate, I heard a clicking sound and the vehicle seemed as though it was about to stall. It then resumed operation normally as the idle system re-engaged. Since this happens intermittently, it has been difficult to recreate during a diagnostic inspection.

Cmbs (collision mitigation braking system) problem.

My Passport has shut down 4 times recently while idling at a stop. There is a auto start/stop feature on the car that shuts down the engine at stops until the brake is released. The problem is that it sometimes does not restart after releasing the brake. The first 3 times it happened at an intersection so it was no big deal. The last time, today, it stalled on a highway as soon as I stopped for heavy traffic. The car was automatically put it neutral and it took me about 40-50 seconds to realize what happened and to restart while the lanes next to me started moving at highway speeds. I looked up the problem online and saw a "Honda idle-stop class action suit ([xxx])" and found out that it is happening to others as well. [xxx] I am not looking for money but want this to be looked at. I will be taking my vehicle in for repairs at a Honda dealership later this week. The contact owns a 2019 Honda Passport. The contact stated that while driving 80 mph on the interstate, the instrument cluster briefly went blank. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed, and it was determined that the instrument cluster and cable needed to be replaced. The contact was provided an estimate for the repair, but the vehicle was not repaired. The contact related the failure to NHTSA campaign number: 20v439000 (back over prevention, electrical system); however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 56,000.

When I attempted to accelerate as the light turned green, the engine failed to restart. The car was immobilized in the left-hand lane, hazards on, and shifted itself into park. Multiple attempts to restart failed. After several minutes and repeated actions (cycling ignition, exiting and re-entering the vehicle), the car finally restarted. Safety concern: the vehicle was disabled in active traffic, creating a hazardous situation for myself, my passenger, and surrounding drivers. Incident 2 •date: August 13, 2025 •time: ~6:37 am •location: off-ramp of n verrado way & papago fwy, buckeye, az •speed: 0 mph (stopped at ramp light) •witness: none •weather: 86°f ambient temperature description: while stopped on the freeway off-ramp, the ais engaged. When I attempted to proceed, the engine failed to restart. The vehicle was stuck on the ramp with hazards on and remained inoperative for several minutes until it finally restarted. Safety concern: the car was disabled on a freeway off-ramp during morning traffic, creating a serious risk of collision. Incident 3 •date: August 19, 2025 •time: ~3:04 pm •location: 1520 n verrado way, buckeye, az (shell gas station parking lot) •speed: 0 mph (shifting from park to reverse) •weather: 110°f ambient temperature •witness: none description: after completing a quick errand, I entered the vehicle, started it normally, and attempted to back out of a parking space. When I shifted into reverse, the engine stalled due to ais. This time, the car placd itself into neutral rather than park. The restart delay was shorter.

On multiple occasions lost connection on screen display and scre goes black preventing me from using back up camera.

The auto idle stop failed to restart at a traffic light. This happened at a busy intersection in heavy traffic. The date given below is the most recent incident; it has happened twice now. Usually I try to remember to disable the idle stop feature, but this time I forgot, and it failed. The first time it happened was November 2024.

My 2022 Honda Passport ex-l began experiencing intermittent starting problems in July 2025, including hesitation and clicking sounds. The battery was replaced in July 2025, but the problem continued. The main safety concern involves the idle start stop system. When the engine shuts off while stopped at a traffic light, releasing the brake pedal does not always cause the vehicle to restart normally. At times it struggles or fails to restart, requiring a manual restart. This can leave the vehicle unable to move in active traffic and create a collision hazard. On September 1, 2026, at 61,133 miles, an authorized Honda dealer inspected the vehicle and confirmed the concern. The technician documented that it would not start or would struggle to restart after idle start stop activation, found the starter weak, and recommended replacement. I paid $200 for the diagnosis. Honda corporate advised that another software/system update was applicable and had not yet been performed; an earlier update was reportedly performed in 2023. Honda also advised that replacement starters were backordered/out of stock. The starter was repaired by an independent shop on September 10, 2026. Honda advised that the starter was not covered because the warranty had expired. I asked whether it would have been covered if the warranty were still active, and Honda stated it would not because the condition is not a recall. No police or insurance inspection occurred. The vehicle was inspected by Honda and serviced by an independent repair facility. Repair documentation is available. No warning lamp or message was observed. I request that NHTSA investigate whether this is a safety-related defect involving the starter, idle start stop system, software, electrical system, or related components. I have invoices of the cost associated with the battery replacement and stater repair.

At a red light in an intereection the auto engine idle stopper feature stopped the engine and it failed to power / restart the engine. The cars electral system locked up. Could not restart engine, and could not put car in neutral because engine needs to be on. Had to car battery jumped. Took car to Honda dealership after incident. They concluded that the battery and electrical systems passed all diagnostic tests. If this is the case there is a major safety issue with the car.

The Passport is equipped with an auto stop/start engine feature. In the last week, while stopped in traffic in the roadway the engine shut off, but did not turn back on causing the car to stall in traffic for several minutes before I was able to restart it. The vehicle shifted to neutral and wouldn't restart until the power was fully off and the door was opened and closed. Both times I was stuck in a travel lanes for approximately 3-5 minutes.
