The vehicle infotainment system froze. Several minutes later after driving, I pressed the brakes but they did not function. The vehicle would not stop and crashed into the vehicle in front of me. Emergency braking did not engage or otherwise show signs of activation. After turning off the car and dealing with the accident, I restarted the vehicle and the brakes and infotainment system operated normally.

Description: I have a concern that I will follow-up with a letter via usps. Imagine driving your 2019 Honda Passport on an interstate, speed limit is set at 70; your speed is 75; you're in the middle of the three lanes of travel; and your vehicle suddenly decelerates and every warning the vehicle is equipped with start giving alerts in rapid succession. This is what happened to me on [xxx] at approximately [xxx]. What is concerning is that this exact same thing happened April 2023 and I was told it was the idle control sensor. The dealership that sold me the vehicle was gracious enough to let me bring it to them for repair, without charging the full cost of the part but, labor cost I incurred. When a consumer purchases a vehicle, the second most expensive purchase in one's lifetime, it is implied that outside of normal and routine maintenance, the car has been assessed and inspected for drivability. Being that this is the second occurrence, I am questioning if this vehicle was thoroughly inspected for this issue? I had my vehicle towed to the greensboro Honda dealership, 3633 w. Wendover Ave. , greensboro nc 27407. Although my faith and loyalty to the Honda brand has diminished, the customer service provided by ms. Karen was comforting and reassuring. She understood my concerns and was phenomenal in letting me know what to expect. Surprising for a weekend as, most employees are not wanting to work. The reason for this email is two fold, notification of the issue and hoping that Honda will take accountability financially and resolve whatever "root" issue(s) that could be cause. Thank you and if my life has any significance to you, I hope to hear from you regarding this serious concern. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
We are currently experiencing very cold weather in my area. I have a Honda Passport that uses a camera for its braking, lkas, acc, and other features. During extreme cold, the camera shorts out causing safety systems to fail. Others report the same issue on Honda cars: [xxx] no accident or injury resulted - merely trying to avoid a future safety issue information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

The contact owns a 2019 Honda Passport. The contact stated that the warning lights on the instrument panel were illuminated and blinking. The lights had to be manually turned off. The message that the camera was obstructed was displayed. The maintenance past due, road departure litigation, acc (adaptive cruise control), and lkas (lane keeping assist system) were displayed. The contact stated that the failure was related to NHTSA campaign number: 20v439000 (back over prevention, electrical system). The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed that the brakes and camera were faulty. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken back to the local dealer, who informed the contact about replacing the battery and performing a scan. The battery was replaced. The vehicle was taken to the dealer again, where it was diagnosed with a loss of communication with the cruise control, a driver support system, a dirty camera, and a radar antenna failure. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure persisted. The service manager eventually declined to service the vehicle, and the contact was referred to another location. The manufacturer was contacted, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 90,000.
Electrical mechanical malfunction to breaking and steering wheel issues, along with vehicle stalling performance issues. Notified Honda multiple times, unable to resolve issue that led to an accident on December 20th 2024, was told it was due to aws system and camera components were replaced. Continue reoccurring issues to vehicle required a diagnosis Honda unable to diagnose vehicle while still under warranty also refused to continue to acknowledge warranty and safety of passenger. Traveling up a hill of 5-degree incline. 20 mph speed limit. Came to complete stop, pushed reverse button. Back over prevention camera did not activate. Did not depress gas pedal. Vehicle rolled backward 35 feet before coming to rest partially in traffic and partially in private driveway. Instrument panel indicated vehicle p for park throughout the entire event. After coming to rest: (partially in traffic) vehicle would not shift out of park. Error messages on instrument panel stated: "stop driving when safe. Transmission problem. See manual. " check engine was not illuminated. Turned off car and back on. Same error message was still present. Gear selector buttons would not respond and vehicle remained in park, partially stuck in traffic. Repeatedly attempted to get vehicle to shift out of park. Eventually the battery positive terminal was removed and reapplied and tightened vehicle started, error message no longer present. Vehicle shifted out of park into reverse. Back over prevention camera activated at this time.
Audio screen reboot issue - the audio screen turns off while driving and takes several minutes to reboot.
My auto-electronic braking was randomly engaging while I was driving. It was unnecessary, & scary. It would just engage, then stop. Then, my emissions systems light came on, & would not go off. I had to get to a safe place. The dealership told me to bring it to them, it never went off the warning was on consistently. It never blinked or went off @ all. I was on the highway, & they kept it overnight. They told me they cleared it & the emissions code never came on. Yes, it did. They still have it tonight bc I refused to take it back, when I was clearly being told I did not see what I saw (even parked) where would I get that from if the light didn’t go come on? they refused to acknowledge what happened, & as of right now I’m in a rental even though they wanted their rental back. It’s a 2023, bought brand new. Full warranty, & they are putting people @ risk. I drove as slow as I could, & followed the directions from the owners manual. I could have been re-ended, due to erratic braking, & my entire vehicle could be destroyed if Honda refuses to own up to the malfunction. I have had problems w/this SUV since the 1st week I bought it. I believe it should be taken back under the lemon law! it’s not safe! not even 7,000 miles on it yet. I bought it w/7 miles. It started by saying I was departing my lane when I wasn’t for about a week, then the brakes would just slam on randomly. They said they reset it, they refused to change the oil @ 70%, had a new guy, who stated the emissions light did not come on! it did! I drove as slow as possible on the highway to get it to service bc I had no choice. They said the the camera was dirty, then the braking was fine, via the code went off, but did not drive it. They literally called me a liar that the emissions light didn’t come on. It was on when I drove it in, & left it. They did not inspect emissions. Emissions has nothing to do with their explanations. I don’t have an invoice yet, I refused taking it back. They haven’t even driven it.

I am having an issue with the turn signal / emergency flasher not making any noise while in operation. The system visual components work fine. It's the inability to hear the flashing of the signals while driving down the road this could lead to issues with other cars trying to interpret the intention of the movement of my car while I am driving. I went to the Honda dealership (gillman Honda) service department and was informed that my particular model does not have a fix or capability for the sound level to be adjusted, whereas other models (pilot, accord, etc. ) do have this capability. Replacement of the flasher is not an option. Could the NHTSA please create a minimum decibel level standard to help insure safe operation of vehicles on the roads.
Rear camera is malfunctioning. The view is blurry and frequently distorts to a green saturation removing visibility to the rear of the vehicle. This is a major safety hazard as the visibility is unpredictable and is obstructs the critical view behind the vehicle. Previously there was no issue. The issue only started occurring after a recall replacement was performed in December ‘23 for a similar issue. Previous recall info: recall 23-047 fakra cable inspection cause: fakra connectors update correction: fakra connectors update op code # 0101t0 1. 70 - the replacement from recall or camera is faulty and needs replacement. Honda is stating they will not take action without a diagnosis which they are stating will cost $200 to the consumer. Please help protect the consumer here as it appears Honda is well aware of the issue persisting beyond the previous recall and purposefully not taking action.
When engaging the accelerator after auto-stop the entire vehicle stalled. Nothing was displayed on the dash or media console, the vehicle cut off, no steering, and no acceleration. When attempting to restart the vehicle it failed multiple attempts until about 45-60 seconds later. Thankfully this occurred at a redlight, but it was a single lane and other drivers behind me were not pleased. This has happened twice now.
The vehicle suffered an electrical failure while driving (55-60mph). During this electrical failure the engine shut off, had no power steering or brakes, and had to get the vehicle off the road and stopped under these conditions. After getting the vehicle stopped, the vehicle would not restart and vehicle ultimately had to be towed to a Honda dealership for diagnosis and repair. This has happened twice, (xxx) and (xxx), since an electronic control unit (ecu) and wiring harness were replaced under a warranty/recall/known defect on (04/12) at gwinnett place Honda in duluth, georgia. The first attempt to diagnose and repair this issue at autonation Honda in columbus, GA didn't uncover any error codes and the issue could not be reproduced so no actual repairs were made. The vehicle is now sitting at Honda in albany, GA awaiting diagnosis and repair for a second time. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
The rear view camera is all red and blurry. .
On Sunday April 14 while driving on the lie middle lane a person driving at a high speed went from right side across to left lane in front of me when all of a sudden the brakes activated itself and my car nearly came to a stop nearly causing a car behind me to rear end me. This happened several times before while driving approaching vehicles in front scaring my family and I. Now my cmbs lights are permanently on on the dash. This system is nerve racking and will cause a severe fatal crash. Many people on several platforms are complaining about the same or similar issues. And understand an investigation has begun. Something needs to be done to resolve this issue. I have owned my 2021 Honda Passport since November of 2023. With 19k miles.
I purchased my vehicle in August 2023 (used). Phone calls (both through using carplay and with the phone unplugged and with genuine cables) sound terrible on the part of the recipient. We replaced the fakra cables and harness late last year and just replaced the microphone (and I got charged a diagnosis fee). The issue is continuing. It's gotten so bad that I have to use my airpods to make any calls for my recipient to hear anything I'm saying (which is illegal in my state and should not be a requirement in a car that is less than 3 years old). I've dug in to forums and this is a common issue for the ex-l trim level in the 2021 model. Additionally, this can impact the backup camera and other lane keeping assist issues. I have factory reset it multiple times and it's still having similar issues.
Car will at times not start and require to be jump started. Battery has been replaced and the issue persist. The car will randomly say collision warning when no cars are on the road.
On January 5, 2024, I was traveling to destin florida, on interstate I-24, the interstate came to a complete stop. My 2020 Honda prassport shut down do to the engine idle stop being engaged. When traffic started to move the engine would not start. I sat in the fast lane of I 24 for approximtely two minutes before the vehicle would start. Multiple attemps were made to restart the vehicle. Finally it started. This is the second time this has occurred.
Upon buying my Honda Passport 11/28/2023, I have been experiencing problems with the radio/electrical connections in my vehicle. There are times I have crackling noises in front speakers and a complete failure of sound altogether. Daily stop and start in the sound system with blank moments and complete sound loses.

Vehicle was slowing down for a stoplight on a freeway frontage road and the vehicle died. Not able to attempt to start vehicle or put it in neutral. Dealer replaced battery.
The forward colision warning comes on for no reason and brakes are getting applied for no reason. Very dangerous and can cause a rear end crash.
The idle stop start stalled the SUV at intersection while waiting at light. This has happened multiple times already over the last couple of months. The latest took several repeat attempts to get it started again.
While at a stoplight with traffic behind me, my Honda quit and couldn't be moved out of road, or restarted for service. No warning on dashboard or lights to let me know what problem was. It went through every error in the system! I had to call police to block traffic and call a wrecker to come tow me to autozone for a replacement battery. It was the wrecker service that advised it was not the first time he had seen this happen. My car is only 3 years old and did not give a warning, it just stopped in traffic putting me and others in danger. I had unnecessary cost and repairs that should never had to be made. The local police had to use resources that took time away from them as well. This was on a busy Saturday afternoon on a well traveled road. This is not in the best interest of the public! now I have to take time off work to have it looked at with dealer. All this could have been avoided if this technology was not put on the vehicle. I expect better from Honda! my next vehicle will be something without all this unnecessary technology that puts people in danger!.
When I press the brake pedal to start the car (sometimes) it will no go down it is hard. Have to do this 5 times to get the car to start. This has happened numerous time. I brought it to the dealer and they did not find anything wrong 2 or 3 times. I have changed the battery and tried the spare key fob. They both do it.
My car is equipped to cut off when you come to a stop. It has failed to restart after taking your foot off the brake a couple of times, and it has been slow to restart many times.
The auto engine idle is failing to properly restart the vehicle. After coming to a complete stop the vehicle will not restart on its own. I have to put the vehicle in park, wait a few minutes and then push the start button to restart the vehicle. The vehicle will be available for inspection upon request. My safety and the safety of others has been put at risk numerous times. The vehicle has failed to restart mid-intersection in heavy traffic. , on the highway during stop and go traffic, and at stop lights. The problem has not been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or service center. The vehicle has not been inspected by the manufacturer, police or insurance company. No prior warning signs, messages or lamps have appeared before the problem.
The vehicle was unable to restart after the auto idle stop engaged at a stoplight, shutting the engine off. Upon release of the brake, the engine did not restart and the car was left stranded for several hours in the middle of a large intersection putting the driver at risk. The car was unable to be restarted and stranded for over two hours until police were able to clear a safe path and have the car towed to the nearest service center. There were no warning indicators or service lights prior to this occurrence. The authorized Honda service center found that the battery was drained and the auto idle stop had engaged while the car battery was low, leaving the car stranded and unable to be restarted.
Since I purchased this car in 2020, I have regularly experienced my car stalling out because of the auto idle function. The car shuts off when I brake and then does not turn back on, leaving me stranded in traffic until I can manually shut off my car and turn it back on. This is a major safety hazard that Honda has yet to properly address. Honda had a recall to "fix" this, which was just a software update. This was conducted 5/12/2023 on my car. Unfortunately, today (5/20/2023) my car stalled out again at a traffic light due to the auto idle function. Honda needs to address this issue, and if they cannot, then they need to provide those with defective models a path to upgrade their car.
I was driving at 60mph and the entire dash went blank for about 30seconds. There was no speedometer, warnings, no display at all. After about 30 seconds the tach showed back up followed by the gear indicator and speedometer with the drivers information center showing up last. This happened on Sunday 5/7/23 this has happened once before but it was brief and I wasn’t sure it had actually happened. This time I saw it go blank and watched the whole process of it coming back on.
Adaptive cruise control and lane keeping assistance warning lights pop-up sporadically on the dashboard. I have had the car serviced at several different Honda dealerships 5 plus times and every time they say that the reason why the warning lights pop up is because the battery is defective. I've only had the car for a couple of months in the battery has been replaced three times. The warning lights on the car and the battery dying and needing to be replaced by aaa and Honda at least three separate times has been a concern for me from the moment I got the car. March of this year. I filed a lemon law complaint with the state of florida where I purchased sorry where I am leasing the vehicle from but I have relocated to the state of kansas and have also filed a lemon law complaint with the attorney general in the state of kansas and I've also contacted Honda America who is the leaseholder. This car is a lemon and I want my money back.
The radio stops and pauses. At times the radio and phone are unusable. When it does come back on the volume is very loud and is shocking . Please see NHTSA id # 10198172.
Radio system is making cracking noise and audio cuts in and out which requires it to be turned off in order to get it to stop. The noise can be startling and the need to unplug audio and turn unit on and off creates a safety issue. From my research this appears to be a common problem with these vehicles.
The contact owns a 2019 Honda Passport. The contact stated that while at a stop light, the fuel saving feature activated; however, the vehicle would not restart after releasing the brake pedal. The contact manually restarted the vehicle and continued driving. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 32,400.
With the idle-stop activated, the engine shut down while stopped at a red light. However, when I disengaged the brake and tried to push the gas pedal to start, the car did not restart. It went "dead. " I had to attempt to restart the car, and it took multiple attempts to get it to restart. I ultimately had to put the vehicle in park and then re-start the engine manually once the 2020 Passport "re-set" itself. This was dangerous, as I was in a very active intersection at dusk/night and the Passport became hard to see as the electrical system + engine shut down and would not restart promptly with cars trying to go through the green light.
Vehicle engine keeps stopping while in drive and puts itself in neutral and turn offs, metal flying around the engine, vehicle jumps and makes loud rattling noise, vehicle electrical issue all components turned themselves off, catalyst converter and several other vehicle issues alarm safety , vehicle gets stuck on hill.
