Honda motors corporation recently sent us a recall notice for suspension brackets that needed to be reinforced because of severe corrosion to the areas affected. They reinforced the brackets with a bolt kit on both the left and right hand sides. However, when we took the vehicle to our maintenance mechanic who does all of our work on our vehicles, he informed me that there was still safety issues with considerable corrosion to the suspension frames and surrounding areas. I took pictures and am forwarding them to Honda motors corporation in torrence, California where the recall was issued. Also pictures sent to the administrator of the national highway traffic safety administration in washington, DC. I am concerned that if the suspension system collapses, it could cause rupture of the gas tank or cut the brake line system altogether. Be advised that there was no accident/incident to report at this time. However, I feel that this vehicle is unsafe to drive with my grandchildren or any one for that matter. I don't know how this informational system works, but if you could expedite anything that would be helpful to remedy this safety matter it would be highly appreciated. Thank you.

Approximately 15 months ago we took the vehicle into the Honda dealership because the engine light came on. The car was put on the lift to determine the problem and they pointed out to me that they saw rust on the frame and they felt it was probably unsafe and too expensive to fix. We then went to another mechanic shop to confirm this since the car had up to that point passed regular state safety inspections and had been maintained. We have records to prove this. The second mechanic made a repair to fix the engine light problem and said he also saw the rust but felt it could be used for local driving. We contacted Honda about the rust problem and they denied any fault with the product. We have since learned that many similar complaints were made. The rust became so great so that the shock tower completely tore loose from the body, both left and right sides. We were then forced to junk the car as of October 2010. Honda waited to communicate with us about the recall until December 2010 even though they were aware of this many months before. They say that because we no longer own the car we are not entitled to any compensation. We told them had we been informed about the recall when they were working on this we never would have junked the car. Everything about the car was in good shape. The outside body looked like new and had this rust not occurred to the degree it did we would still have use of the car .

The dealer and later on Honda engineers have balanced/rotated the tires 5 times, they have replaced rack and pinion spring, hubs, changed rotors, installed new rear wheel centering rings & body shims, and replaced original tires with new more expensive tires. Still the SUV vibrates as if its going to fall apart and the steering wheel shimmies dangerously at speeds greater than 55, becoming worse between 65 and 75 mph. I have checked numerous websites on the internet and have found several people with the same problem. One in texas was lucky enough to have Honda buy back her Passport for testing to see if they could figure out what is going on. We took the car to arbitration by the bbb and even though they only tested it for 25 minutes and even though we showed that the steering wheel shimmied and the car vibrated they later on concluded that they felt no vibration and sided with Honda. Stating that the Passport is after all a truck and vibration is to be expected.
