I took my car to a repair shop for regular service on August 7, 2012. The mechanic called me and said that elements of the rear suspension, particularly the rear axle lower link bracket mentioned in the 1998 Honda Passport recall - #00v058000, as well as several other parts related to the rear suspension, were so corroded that the vehicle was not safe to drive. I had taken my vehicle to a certified Honda dealer to address the recall mentioned above, and at that time they applied an anti-corrosive coating to these affected parts. This solution did not seem to work. At the time, some owners of the make, model and year of this vehicle had their vehicles bought back by the manufacturer. I feel that I should have been offered that option. Instead, a vehicle was returned to me that was unsafe to transport my family.

I brought my 1998 Honda Passport in to have it inspected. I was told the entire frame including brackets were entirely rusted. It would not pass inspection and I was told it was unsafe to drive. I never received a recall notice about rust. I depend on my truck and my grandchildren have to ride in it. Please make this a mandatory recall, some one is bound to be killed by Honda mistakes. (who knows how many accidents there have been. ) I am the original owner and have had all upkeep done . Once again please make this issue a mandatory recall, for safety sake.
The contact owns a 2000 Honda Passport. The contact stated that the vehicle was repaired under NHTSA campaign id number 10v436000 (suspension:rear). Thirteen months later while driving approximately 40 mph, the vehicle started to swerve abnormally. The contact exited the vehicle and discovered that the driver side trailing arm was fractured. The vehicle was slowly driven to an independent mechanic where they advised him that the failure was not related to the prior recall repair. The driver side trailing arm was replaced. The manufacturer was contacted and they offered no assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 119,550.

The frame has rusted through in the rear of the vehicle causing the leaf spring in the back to fall down. My rear end is no longer held in place and can fall out from the rear of the vehicle. My car is no longer driveable. It's a 97 Honda Passport. Other wise my vehicle is in excellent condition inside and out which makes me sick to know that the frame is gone.

This vehicle is experiencing extreme frame corrosion of both the forward and rear frame member. There are large perforations in multiple areas along the entire length of the frame, and I don't see any way to repair other than a complete frame replacement. Why is the dividing line for the recall 10v436000 set at the 1998 model year? this is the same basic vehicle with the same rotted frame as those involved in the recall. I firmly believe that the doors should rot of a vehicle long before the frame becomes an issue.

Vehicle frame rusted totally through. Has only 67000 miles and rest of vehicle is in excellent condition. Frame rust issues need to be addressed by Honda before serious injuries are involved.

My local las vegas Honda dealership inspected my vehicle for a recall related the forward mounting point bracket for the left or right rear suspension lower link may experience excessive corrosion. The Honda dealership replaced no parts, and simply treated the area with an anti-corrosive compound. Three weeks later, my auto mechanic told me the vehicle is unsafe for driving due to the frame having rotted away entirely in places. He was able to poke holes in the remaining frame with his finger because the steel was rusted through so badly. My mechanic indicated that I should have the vehicle towed to the junkyard immediately. However, the engine, drive train, interior, and body are all in good or excellent condition. This is clearly defective and/or inferior the frame materials used by Honda. My dealership sent me on the highway with a clearly unsafe vehicle!.
As driving my Passport I notice swaying feeling all over the road and it is very loud when ever you hit the slightest bump. Driving at a very low speed is the only way to drive. The frame is rusted bad. It is full of holes and missing peices. Currently at Honda dealer waiting for the case manager to contact me as it is not safe to drive according to Honda America. So far offered no rental or nothing just no car.
There was a recall on the corrosion of the lower trailing link frame brackets. The recall was done on 9/13/2011. We took the SUV to our mechanic to have new tires installed and he informed us that the bracket that holds the spring was gone and the other one was going due to corrosion. The Honda dealer that did the recall never informed us of this problem even though our mechanic said they should have spotted it. . The driver side spring in the back is resting on the body and could have resulted in a accident if it moved. I have talked to the Honda CO. Awaiting results.

Fuel tank dropped down, checked and it was rusted out and broke free from frame which also rusted out. The entire frame is rusted out, I have never seen a frame rust completely out like this ! Honda told me there was a recall and my wife took it to a dealer and they said the problem that was in the recall didn't affect the area they will have to replace. The dealer said they couldn't fix the problem because the whole frame was rusted out and the vehicle was unsafe. Now what ? I guess I should sell all my Hondas and buy american motors.

A few years back my trailing linkage on both sides of vehicle rusted away from frame. The drivers side was first and I was traveling at 50 mph. Hit pot hole and drivers side linkage broke off. Causing me to fish tail in traffic and almost crash. Now I have two cracks in my frame and the rear cross member is rusted through. I have also had the fuel tank support fixed and welded back onto my truck. This will cost me thousands to fix to hopefully make it a drivable vehicle again. Or. American Honda can buyout these vehicles from these owners.
This vehicle has serious rust issues for its age. The frame is completely rusted through in many spots which makes it a hazard to drive. In April of 2011 the shock tower broke free of the frame and now wobbles free in the wheel well. We first noticed a rust problem some years back when my brother purchased the vehicle. He was the second owner of it at approx. 50k miles.
Noticed that fuel gauge is not working properly because it went empty even though I have a tank full of gas. I did some internet research and found out that this is related to a defective 'fuel sending unit'. It affects Honda Passports and isuzu rodeo vehicles . My SUV Honda Passport fuel gauge is not working due to bad float chamber on the pump component has manufacturing defects. My fuel gauge has started fluctuating wildly. The most common thing though, is that it reads out of gas shortly after a fill up. This is the same model as an isuzu rodeo and the problems are duplicated there. I want to make sure a recall happens and that it covers the Hondas as well.
After experiencing a slight vibration at highway speeds, I removed my right front tire to inspect brakes, bearings, etc. I immediately discovered a large rust hole in my frame right where it bends up to the height of the engine mount. Further inspection revealed that hole, as well as, holes on the top and bottom in the same vicinity. I replaced the tire, removed the Passport from service and replaced it with a reliable vehicle. Since then I have monitored the web to see if any others had experienced frame rusting on Honda Passports or isuzu rodeos. There were multitudes. Today I took the Passport to a body shop for a professional inspection of the frame. The results were that the total right side of the frame was full of rust holes and the left side to a lesser extent. I am truly fortunate that I noticed the problem before serious injury to myself and family or others occurred. I have also recently noticed that Honda and isuzu have issued recalls for 1998-2202 due to frame rust issues. The rust is not limited to those years as is evident with my vehicle. I do live in a state that uses salt products to control winter ice which certainly accelerated the rust condition. Manufactures have treated their frames to protect for many decades and because of that record, I blindly believed I was received the same from Honda; otherwise, I would have purchased the rust undercoating offered at purchase.
While driving at an undetermined speed vehicle vibrated. Consumer took the vehicle to the dealership on five occasions, however, the mechanic could not duplicate the problem.
While driving at any speed and with no warning vehicle will jerk, and then engine light will come on and will stay on remainder of the time vehicle is being operated. Dealer notified.
Vehicle shakes severely at 40 mph and faster. The shake is worse when the speed reaches and exceeds 70 mph. Dealership serviced the vehicle three times and found no problem. The tires were balanced and rotated twice.
Consumer states the vehicle drifts to the right, vehicle has had 2 separate wheel alignments performed and the vehicle has not been off pavement/road and has been used only under normal driving conditions, consumer states the vehicle is still experiencing a noticable drift to the right and will have to return to the dealer for the third time.
When vehicle is driven over a rough patch in road/ in wet or dry weather conditions vehicle shakes likes it is falling apart. Dealer has yet to be contacted. Please provide further details.
Goodyear wrangler ap tire blewout while traveling 55-60 mph, tire size p245/70r16, dot mk9lbcer476.
While driving at any low speed and turning could feel vibration on floor of vehicle, just as technical service bulletin indicated.
Vehicle vibrates when accelerating over 50mph regardless of road surface. Vehicle has been to dealer on numerous times. Dealer finds nothing wrong with it.
Right rear toe is defective and out of alignment spec. , serviced three times for defect with no improvement, causing severe pull and loss of steering control.
The steering wheel vibrates when reaching 40 mph. Nlm.
I am seeing problem with the truck sliding sideways on slippery roads when making turns. This happen more often when making left turns. The whole vehicle tends to move sideways and this has already caused one accident. I have taken it to the dealer but they haven't been able to find the cause.
The vehicle starts vibrating and shimmeing at about 60 mph. It feels similar to a tire being out of balance or like the vehicle is out of alignment. The dealer and manufacturer has installed new wheels, new tires, new suspension but the shimmieing has been worst than day one! the dealership says "so it shimmie's so what?" the manufacturer says "according to our dealer, the car is ok, so you do not have any case. We have done all we can. " it seems to me like the car would be a danger to drive in hazardous winter conditions if it shimmies this bad. The car is so bad that the dealership sales manager offered me to "buy it back as a low value trade-in car as a favor to me. " the same dealership's service department is calling this car to be in good condition. The car has been with dealership and manufacturer for about 7 times so far. They both refuse to even take a look at the problem any more. What can I do now for the lemon? please help.
The vehicle has a constant vibration that increases with speed. It feels similar to a tire being out of balance. The vehicle has been to the dealership several times. They sent the vehicle to ntb and I took it to the firestone/bridgestone dealer. Three sets of new tires have been on the vehicle and two sets of wheels. So far that has not fixed the problem. I am concerned that the vibration is a defect in an axle or some other area of the vehicle and I am concerned about my safety when driving the vehicle. ( dot number: y7mt tire size: p245/70r16 ).
Vehicle wandered across the road when traveling 60 or more mph. Vehicle been in dealer shop on three occasions, and problem cannot be corrected. Please feel free to provide any further details.
While driving between 60-65 mph the vehicle begins to vibrate. Also, goes from side to side, causing alot of movement. The dealer can't find the problem.
While driving over series of bumps the vehicle swayed to right or left side which almost caused loss of vehicle control. Cause unknown. Dealer said it is the characteristics of the vehicle. Please provide further information.
I couldn't list failed component, I don't know the cause. I have a shimmy/wobbly ride above 60mph. Dealer has balanced tires three times, replaced an individual tire and replaced all tires with a different brand to no avail. The vehicle feels very unstable at times, expecially above 60mph and road surface seems to affect the severity of the problem. I think the dealer and manufacture know of this problem, but I'm not sure they know how to fix it. Something needs to be done.
