Body Problems of Honda Pilot - part 1

Passenger got out of front passenger side door and the door bounced back and gashed his right calf, resulting in significant bleeding and requiring 9 stitches. The door can be inspected if needed, but this is a design issue, not an issue specific to my vehicle. I have looked at the other front door and another Honda of this model type and it has the same issue, a metal edge. This issue appears numerous times on Piloteers. Org (front doors, lower edges). I contacted Honda and reported the incident with a request for a quick repair and medical costs for the injured passenger. I filed the report 10 days ago and followed up with Honda several times with a request to have the case expediated, but have yet to hear back from Honda. I am worried that another passenger or the driver could be similarly injured.

Rear subframe damaged with no reason. Vehicle has been garaged and in moderate climate since it was purchased. Confirmed by dealer and insurance adjustor.

Sunroof exploded while driving at a normal rate of speed with no cars surrounding us. Upon inspection, there was no debris within the roof hold that would denote a rock or something causing incident. We jumped a lane but no cars were around. All occupants were safe.

My vehicle begun to make a clicking noise every time when turning the steering wheel. It has gotten worse over time, almost constantly. I took the vehicle for my first service and mentioned this to the service guy. He mentioned that this is a known problem on some of their Hondas, not just my vehicle and that they tried fixing it on another Honda vehicle but that the problem on that vehicle was worse after they tried to fix it. The guy basically said there is a sensor inside the steering wheel that tells the vehicle how much the wheel has turned (I forgot the name of the sensor). He basically admitted this was a known design flaw and recommended I leave the issue alone or it would get worst if they try to fix it.

Vehicle hatch door window seal and door seal allowed water to collect inside the door. When the door was later opened, the water that collected in the door rushed inside the vehicle and began leaking heavily from behind the interior trim panels at the rear of the vehicle near the hatch door opening.

My paint is peeling. I never had a vehicle with the paint peeling like this. Its color is white. What can be done about this? I have bought touch up paint to help stop the peeling but that didnt do so well.

Since purchasing the vehicle there was a leak under the driver's side console after heavy rains. After multiple trips to the dealer they directed us to replace the windshield. We did so (under protest). The leak still existed. The dealership determined that there was a gap at the a pillar. We worry that this is related to the sturcture recall about missing welds. Honda will not admit to any issue.

1. Rear tailgate latch will not always release when pressing the dashboard button or remote fob button. The tailgate will attempt to rise, go about 1/2 inch, stop, beep 3 times and then close again. It can only be opened after this by manually pulling on the outside handle and giving it a sharp jerk upwards. 2. While trying to investigate a metallic tapping sound in the rear of the vehicle, I looked under the rear bumper and located a wiring bundle that had lost its support from a plastic clamp. The bundle was frayed, and there were exposed and frayed wires visible showing the copper inside the insulation.

Rear suspension cradle attachment points at the frame corrode. This is common on all Pilots in northern climates. Honda has recalled both the ridgeline and crv models for corrosion issues related to suspension attachment point corrosion but refuses to recall the Pilot. While they claim you will not lose control when the suspension disconnects from the frame the vehicle cannot pass inspection and thus becomes disposable. When vehicles are otherwise perfect this is not acceptable from both safety and fiscal aspects. Please investigate this further as Honda has a repair kit and guidelines but charges thousands for the work .

The car was placed in park, and somehow it rolled backwards into a gas station post causing serious damage. The very badly designed 9 speed transmission is designed to shift into park when the door is opened this is a safety feature that failed! my child could have been in there! it could have rolled back into the file pump! dangerous! I have heard of others complaining this happened to them too. I have video evidence but I need to obtain it from the gas station it happened at.

Vehicle moonroof exploded while driving.

Lamont sold me a lemon vehicle. Lamont managed to get a false inspection form and provided it to me and stated the vehicle has passed inspection. Once vehicle was taken to multiple mechanic shops to find out if its even able to be fixed and as 3 mechanics stated I was sold a lemon car and they are "unable to fix" the problem. Lamont was contacted on multiple times through calls/text msgs, and voice mails and as of today none of my calls were answered. Lamont then blocked my number and continued to avoid me and the car situation he put me through. I've been trying to reach him every day since the last time he gave me the vehicles documents. I am filing this report to the best of my knowledge with the information he gave me for the vehicle. I would love to get a refund back of all my money spent for this vehicle that was sold to me as a lemon.

The transmission jerks/jumps when accelerating and also as slowing down. The vehicle, including the steering wheel, shakes when braking at speeds above 60mph. Several parts of the body are not put together properly, leaving gaps, overlaps, etc.

When I reach interstate speeds the hood starts to rattle and makes a very loud noise. It shakes as if it is going to come open. It also does then when I am behind a large tractor-trailer where the wind coming off whips the front of my care. I have checked to see if the hood needed a height adjustment but that isn't the issue. It is up as far as it can go and if I lower it any it gets even worse.

At highway speeds, especially in wind or drafts from trucks, the hood vibrates/flexes by inches. At higher wind levels it creates a tremendous roar and vibrates the whole car. The latch seems loose. A recurring problem which first occurred in 2017 just after we bought the car. I have taken it in to the dealer several times but the problem remains. When the car was recalled I hoped it would fix the problem but it did not.

The water is leaking from the driver- side rail beween the diver window and from windshield. I took it to Honda dealer they told me windshield issue need to replace it. As recommend I replaced the windshield and the water is pouring from it during the rain. Issue still exist. I reached out several mechnics they told me it is body issue from sun/moon roof.

I have 4 car washed for this car so far ive only had it for a few weeks. Every time I wash it the dome light/rear mirror leaks water and wets the entire cup holder and center console.

Clear coat failing on roof and paint chipping bubbling away from body on tailgate without evidence of rust. Reported to dealer and was told to contact american Honda corp directly.

I purchased this vehicle a little less than two months ago… this vehicle is babied and I make sure to stay on top of everything possible as it’s a primary transportation to bring my toddler to his many appointments. While operating on the highway, everything was smooth sailing as expected, until I heard a noise. I glanced in the rear view mirror to see a part flying off of the car and colliding with the vehicle behind me. I couldn’t locate where the item came from. Today, I went to pick my son up from preschool and noticed the entire piece on the roof was hanging outward, right off and over the side of the vehicle. Had I not noticed, it could’ve caused further danger to others. I hopped up to look at my roof to realize the rear trim is the piece that flew off, and the following straight part is what was now dangling over the side. On top of everything else, on the same side, the trim along the side my of windshield is upraised and I am absolutely torn. How dangerously this could’ve ended had I not noticed. I’ve seen other Pilot-owners discuss how their trim pieces have caused trouble and even further dented some trunks. This needs to be brought to attention, I didn’t spend $$,$$$ on a vehicle that is not safe.

My Honda Pilot paint started coming off, paint peling off. Location: roof above windshield passenger side. My vehicle is garage kept at all times. Hand and automatic washed regularly. Please advise on how to proceed with repairs. Thank you in advance.

Hi Honda pallet is completely rusted out and corroded on the back underneath. My mechanic said it is dangerous. The left-hand side could literally fall out while driving and this is not something normally seen even with the car being older.

The cargo area carpet assessing to the spare tire was soaking wet after the car driving in raining condition and go to car wash. The car already service once at the Honda dealership and they seal the cargo area gap. They said it’s manufactured defect and they need to reseal it. Water damage of trunk cargo area, cargo carpet and possibly car sensors on back of the car causing sensor malfunction. I am going to bring the car back to dealership and have them check the car again.

The doors on my new Honda Pilot have an extremely sharp, hazardous, protruding edge on the lower outer corner at the bottom of the doors. The edge is so sharp, that while exiting the passenger door, it punctured my left leg in my calf on the left side of my shin bone. This required me to have 12 stitches in my leg. The laceration was very deep and exposed my then swollen bleeding inner tissue. The impact forced the outer skin underneath my intact layer of skin creating a v shape like the edge of the door. This required extra time and care to first get the buried skin out so that it could then be sewn back together. The edge was very pointed hard and sharp. There needs to be a protective covering (rounding the edge) so it won't be so sharp. Or adding additional rubber or plastic, preventing it from piercing a leg. In the photos ,it is the black protrusion that is sharp not the white metal on the door. It is a little difficult to see from the photos, but it is a hard sharp black edge that is pointed and what caused the damage to my leg.

The vehicle was driven by my 16 year old daughter and at @ 6 pm on interstate route 128 the engine was making a noise and that the car was starting to slow down and stall,so she called me. She pulled over and shut the car off and then all the dashboard lights started to blink really fast. The car started to smoke from the engine, she got out and called 911. 911 said they would send a tow truck. Within a few minutes sparks were coming from underneath the engine and then the fire started. She called 911 and myself again to report the car was on fire. Thank god she was away from the car. The tow CO. Arrived first, then first responders, then myself. The highway was shut down to put out the fire. Our daughter was hysterical and the car is a total loss. We waited until the car fire was extinguished. The first responders offered medical attention, but she just wanted to go home. There is a current recall for this make and model, but not the year. What my daughter described, sounds like the current recall from Honda for other makes including the Pilot. I posted on social media and a few people reached out to say their 2017 Honda Pilot had a similar issue, but thankfully no fire. This recall is very serious because they are replacing the engine for owners.

The tailgate paint started to peel. I took the vehicle into the Honda collision shop. They said I missed the extended warranty by a few months. I called America Honda and they said there is nothing they can do about even though they are aware of the issue with the white paint. This was about a year ago. Now the roof of the vehicle is peeling. This is a hazard because of the potential of rust and weakening the structure of the vehicle.

Sunroof glass exploded: while driving in light traffic -- approximately 65 mph -- I heard a loud crash exploding sound and then the sound of glass breaking. No other vehicles were near me but I quickly scanned my front, back, and side windows and mirrors and nothing was broken. No warnings on instrument panel. I could hear wind coming in the vehicle and realized it was coming from the sunroof. I pulled off at the next exit and inspected the top of my Honda Pilot. There was about an 8–10-inch hole in the sunroof glass above the driver's seat with jagged glass angled outward from the hole. No signs of any other damage such as feathers from a bird or scratches from a rock. Just a hole and broken glass. I continued to the drive to my home -- about 20 miles. By the time I got home, more than half of the glass had broken off, leaving an opening about 18 x 30 inches or more. Upon closer inspection, it was clear there was no other damage from other objects just as a rock or animal/bird. It was a very frightening and unnerving experience, especially driving on interstate traffic. I contacted my Honda dealer, and it was suggested I contact Honda customer service. We have filed a claim with our auto insurance.

On December 14, 2023 I noticed there was an orange spot and several smaller orange areas that appeared under the clearcoat on my front bumper. I was unable to remove them through hand washing and waxing. I decided to take it in to two local body shops who pointed out to me that the fender was misaligned. After further review we found paint peeling and cracking on and under the hood as well as the painted area around the engine components. In addition, seam filler was left exposed on the roof in multiple spots, not prepped correctly, and just painted over. The pin stripe installed by the dealership was also peeling off. Furthermore, the hood was painted (twice as thick) and other painted panels had a different paint thickness. I contacted the selling dealer directly (missed during pdi), and my nearest dealership to report these issues and to start case with Honda for a resolution.

I purchased my 2023 Honda Pilot on April 7, 2023. I had to wait for it to come in which happened roughly 2 weeks later. Within a month or so of having the vehicle while sitting at a traffic light I got 2 warning lights. One being the collision mitigation system problem see your dealer and immediately followed by adaptive cruise control problem see your dealer. I called the dealership to make them aware of the problem and was asked to make an appointment to bring my car in. Upon stopping and turning my car off and starting back up the warning lights were gone. I didn't think too much about it. In August when I had my car in for routine oil change they checked the issue and was unable to find anything. Around this same time my driver side front bumper started gapping. I was told that the clip was either not installed properly or was bent during manufacturing. (still waiting for that back ordered part to repair) in November while traveling with my niece and nephew again stopped at a traffic light every single warning light started coming on. My dash was lit up like a christmas tree and the lights were coming one after the other. I pulled over, not only would my car not turn off, my back liftgate would not work either. I was 4 hours away from home. I called the local Honda dealership where I was as I was in a panic. While on hold I was finally able to turn my car off by holding the start/stop engine button for several seconds. When I started my car again all of the lights were still on and lighting up one after the other. As I made my way to the dealership they all went off and all was normal again. I took my car to my local dealership once I got home. Dealership said they were not able to find much except the faulty camera sensors and Honda suggested to start there. (on back order) however in the meantime I was told that I should not trust any of my safety features. My job requires a significant amount of driving and at this point I feel like I have gotten a lemon!!.

My vehicle had a recall on my car hood because its lose. When you drive it when its windy it moves. I had recall fixed at a Honda dealership in hutchinson KS. Now my hood is lose again. I had to pull off the interstate yesterday to try to get it to latch because it was moving, and it was very windy, and I was afraid it was going to blow open on me. I wanted a whole new hood, and I was told I'd have to pay for that myself. I really think a new hood and latch system should be included in recalls with this type of vehicle. Im honestly afraid to go over 65mph in my cars current condition.

Switch assy don't work don't turn on the switch flash on and off I am scary that I can get in a accident if the car turn off that other problem that I got is the paint is coming out that is not the original paint it be a recall for Pilot for the switch I think the years is 2016-2017.

Used tje remote to open the rear power lift gate and the rear window shattered. There was no damage to the window or any other issues prior to it happening.

2006 Honda Pilot subframe rust which is causing the subframe to pull away from the body of the vehicle. Known issue with a patch kit, but no dealership or auto body shop willing to fix it. Honda has recalled the ridgeline and crv for the same issue, but not the Honda Pilot. Vehicle is in perfect running condition except for this design flaw. Would like to get it repaired instead of junking a perfectly drivable vehicle.

My husband was getting off the highway when a car ahead of him braked suddenly. He attempted to hit the brakes but the car did not stop. The automatic stop crash feature did not turn on. The abs did not work. Ultimately, crashing into the car ahead of him.

Roof molding comes loose and flies off while car is in motion on roads. Imposing risk to other drivers on roads. Once removed area is exposed which can result in increase in deterioration of vehicle.
