37 Body problem of the 2013 Honda Pilot

Failure Date: 05/22/2023

I purchased the vehicle and in may 2023 I noticed a small bubble on the paint on the roof of the car near the windshield on the left, above the driver's side. I went to the closest Honda dealer and the gentleman at the shop dismissed me saying the car's warranty was expired. A few months later, the bubble popped and a part of the paint peeled off. I called the dealer arlington Honda and was told by a manager jeremy hardman to take my car to one of 2 autobody shops he provided me with for inspection. I went to schaumburg autobody who inspected the vehicle and found more affected areas behind the sunroof. They determined it to be defective sealer that is not adhearing to the metal. I sent an email to jeremy hardman and called that Honda dealer I was told jeremy no longer works at that dealer and transferred me elsewhere. I was told to contact Honda corporate. Meanwhile, the paint has now peeled further, the metal is now completely exposed which will lead to rust formation causing further damage. Also making my car look old and poorly maintained. Since its near the windshield, moisture from snow, rain etc will cause damage where water will start to make its way into the vehicle causing further damage there as well. I have attached pictures to show the metal exposure from the peeling and pictures where you can see the sealant coming off. I would like instructions on how to proceed from here to initiate a recall ASAP due to poor paint/sealer quality and/or improper application. Instructions for a temporary solution to avoid further damage. I also found an article. . Read more...

Failure Date: 04/08/2023

The whole underneath sub frame, floor which it connects to, the left & right frame rails are completely rotted away so the shocks are hanging without a piece of frame on them. Completely unrepairable. Not worth fixing. What shall I do? this is a significant safety issue & concern . My mechanic will not give this an inspection sticker until it is road safe.

41 Body problem of the 2015 Honda Pilot

Failure Date: 03/15/2023

The SUV paint has started peeling and while driving the flakes fly off . 3 day while driving on I-90 interstate in chicago area and a big piece (2feet x 6-8 inches wide)of paint flake flew and landed on a car behind me on its windshield and luckily that driver was able to stop the car without incident . (anything serious could have also happened) Honda is a premium car which charges much more than equivalent brands and yet the car paint starts flaking in under 8 years and also polluting the atmosphere.

42 Body problem of the 2016 Honda Pilot

Failure Date: 02/24/2023

Hood cracked due to excessive vibration over the years from late 2015 until latch was repaired by Honda in 2021. Due to the number of years prior to the repair, the hood has cracked and could potentially fall apart or fly up and block the driver's vision.

44 Body problem of the 2020 Honda Pilot

Failure Date: 01/06/2023

When driving, the driver and passenger side mirrors shake impairing the driver visibility. On many occasions it has become dangerous to see in the driver’s mirror because the images look distorted. I checked with Honda and they said only certain models have a recall on the same mirror issue.

45 Body problem of the 2006 Honda Pilot

Failure Date: 12/17/2022

The left rear frame of the vehicle is rusted out where the rear drive line bolts to the body or frame. Causing the rear drive line to have the ability of failing to stay attached to the vehicle. The rear suspension also connects at the same area. Just a huge rotted out hole at the moment.

46 Body problem of the 2019 Honda Pilot

Failure Date: 11/30/2022

I own three Honda vehicles. All of them have paint issues. This 2019 Honda Pilot is having paint peeling off of the rear hatch and other areas of the body. No physical damage has happened to these areas and the paint peeling is not a result of any mechanical force. The paint itself is chipping off of its own accord.

47 Body problem of the 2017 Honda Pilot

Failure Date: 11/20/2022

Without warning, the sunroof suddenly exploded/shattered while driving without current or previous damage or collision. Glass particles fell into the cabin of the vehicle on driver and passenger.

48 Body problem of the 2022 Honda Pilot

Failure Date: 10/27/2022

We discovered that both right and left rear door locks were not operating properly in our brand new 2022 Honda Pilot touring, preventing the passengers from being able to exit the vehicle. From the original purchase on oct 27, 2022, the kids had complained of being unable to unlock and open the rear doors from inside the cabin. After continuing problems, I discovered that once the door locks had been locked electronically, either via the drivers side door switch or the key fob, it was impossible to manually unlock and open the right or left rear passenger doors. Again - the rear seat passengers were not able to exit the vehicle on their own. Once all doors had been unlocked electronically via the switch of key fob, then the rear doors could be manually locked and unlocked using the lock tabs by each door handle. We took the vehicle to the dealer on Nov 30, 2022 and they confirmed that the locks were not working properly. (note at this time, the vehicle had already had the rear entertainment system fail and had been at the Honda world westminster service facility for five (5) days for repairs and while they replaced the control unit) on Dec 2-3, Honda world westminster service took 2 days to diagnose and repair the vehicle (now 7 days total in the shop), replacing both rear door lock assemblies (right rear latch assembly part # 72610-t5r-a31; left rear latch assembly part # 72650-t5r-a31). When we received the vehicle I asked what exactly had failed and how could both locks be inoperable on the new vehicle from the dealer, but they could offer no explanation other than poor quality control. I explained that this was more that simply bad parts, it created a serious safety concern as the rear passengers were essentially "trapped" in the rear seat area as they were unable to unlock and open the doors had they needed to exit the vehicle in an emergency. I also called Honda corp. And advised of the issue, they created ticket # 13512638.

49 Body problem of the 2004 Honda Pilot

Failure Date: 10/03/2022

Confirmed with local mechanic that the rear cross member of the sub-frame needs to be replaced immediately. Badly rusted and is a safety issue.

50 Body problem of the 2006 Honda Pilot

Failure Date: 09/05/2022

The car's rear subframe has rusted to the point where the suspension no longer correctly mounts to the frame causing an unstable ride and handling issues. Yes, the car can be inspected. This is a safety issue because other parts of the suspension system or brake system could become loose or break off or otherwise be negatively affected by this corrosion. It could also cause me to be unable to control the vehicle properly if it gets worse. Yes, the problem has been confirmed by both a dealer and an independent mechanic. The Honda dealership has inspected it. There is a very similar problem with some of Honda's other models from this era including the ridgeline and the crv that have recently been recalled and I think this vehicle should be recalled for this issue as well.

51 Body problem of the 2019 Honda Pilot

Failure Date: 08/01/2022

Passenger side pooling with water during rainfall. Known problem among Honda owners.

52 Body problem of the 2016 Honda Pilot

Failure Date: 07/23/2022

Hood - flutters and wobbles significantly at highway speeds. Per recall check, this vehicle is not included. Seat belt - more of a personal thing, but the driver's seat belt cuts into the driver's neck, even when high of shoulder strap is adjusted. When using a device to help control where the shoulder strap lays, it was found that the driver's seat belt is much shorter than all other in the vehicle. Therefore not allowing the driver to use something to adjust the shoulder portion and still safely check blind spots.

53 Body problem of the 2016 Honda Pilot

Failure Date: 07/15/2022

I have a 2016 Honda Pilot, color, pearl white. The paint started to peel appointmently one month ago. The area is on the roof in front of sunroof behind the front windshield. There is a recall on the same color, make, year and model. Peeling in the same area. I was told by Honda of America that it was only for Honda that were painted at a certain factory that are covered by the recall. I did have the vehicle inspected by Honda and a body shop that they sent me too. Total estimate is around $1200. They both confirmed that it's the same area as the recall. I do have the email with pictures that they took to send to Honda. Honda is only willing to cover 25% and told me to put a complaint into your department. Per Honda they said if there is enough complaints. There would be a recall for the other VIN numbers to cover the paint job. We find there response unacceptable based on pass practice and previous recalls.

54 Body problem of the 2022 Honda Pilot

Failure Date: 07/07/2022

Our familly was driving down the highway on vacation when there was a very loud noise. I was in the passenger seat and looked back to see large pieces flying off of the car. When we got to a safe place to pull over, we noted that the trim at the bottom of the door, both front and rear had come off of the car. Had we been on the very busy freeway, which we had been a few minutes earlier, these large pieces flying into the air could have hit another vehicle or frightened a driver causing them to cross lanes trying to miss these pieces. The incident was reported to the call center and we were told that it was a known manufacturing default. The dealership denied that there was a manufacturing default and was unsure why we were told that. There was no warning of this incident about to occur. The dealership agreed to repair the vehicle as a "good will" offer.

55 Body problem of the 2005 Honda Pilot

Failure Date: 05/29/2022

My vsa light came on when I was on the freeway and made my vehicle jerk almost pushing me into the next lane. It has been coming on and turns off when I restart the car and other cars of my same modal and year have recalls for this same issue but my VIN yields no results for a recall.

64 Body problem of the 2016 Honda Pilot

Failure Date: 09/16/2021

A roof moulding flew off my vehicle on the expressway. Apparently there is a Honda service bulletin that came out to the dealership that indicates these mouldings need to be secured better. However, they listed only some of the vins and mine wasn't one of them, but the moulding ended up flying off anyway. It sounds like is a problem for other vins that Honda didn't indicate.

65 Body problem of the 2011 Honda Pilot

Failure Date: 08/28/2021

Paint peeling around windows and top surfaces of 2011 Honda Pilot - white pearl paint paint chips coming off around windows and landing in car when eating. Child almost ate paint chips. Took car to pueblo Honda several years ago and told that there was nothing they could do as car was to old. Out of warranty. They did not check or notify me that the warranty was extended for 7 years. I just found this on google. Car had hail damage 2018 and insurance and auto body shop said paint defective. Filed online at Honda about this no one contacted me. This first appeared and started to peel about 5 years ago in 2016. Is only getting worse. 102,429 8. 6. 2018 mialage.

66 Body problem of the 2021 Honda Pilot

Failure Date: 08/15/2021

At about 8600 miles between speeds of 38 -60 miles per hour, I began to notice and experience a tremendous wind noise coming from both driver and passenger windows. The vehicle has been to (2) two separate Honda dealerships on (4) four different times to address this issue, but the problem remains and or has not been fixed in spite of all the repairs made by the dealerships. I was advised by the dealerships that this is how Honda manufactured the vehicle and that there was nothing else the dealerships could do to fix the problem. Driving the vehicle is now problematic because of the wind noise, as it appears my windows are down, even though they are not. There is a safety concern because I do not know whether a panel, garnish or windshield might come apart, tear away and potentially create a hazardous condition for myself, passengers or even the other motorists.

67 Body problem of the 2017 Honda Pilot

68 Body problem of the 2013 Honda Pilot

Failure Date: 06/13/2021

Paint peeling on my 2013 Honda Pilot - passenger side roof between moon roof and front windshield. Paint color is the white pearl. Seeing many reports of paint issues with this type of vehicle and paint color.

69 Body problem of the 2007 Honda Pilot

Failure Date: 05/22/2021

While driving with six on board (car holds up to 8) I hit a moderate bump. The car made a loud bang, and felt unstable. At the same time, abs, vtm-4, and stabilty warning lights came on. I was in a construction zone with no place to stop, so I kept going. The instabilty seemed manageable, so I kept going to an exit. On the ramp, while cornering even slightly, there was a rubbing sound from the rear wheel area. In a straight line, it sounded okay, but didn't feel right. When we were able to park and get out, the rear wheels were splayed out (extreme negative camber) as if the car was grossly overloaded, even though if was empty. Upon inspection, I found that the two rear mounts for the subframe had completely pulled out of the unibody. The subframe had rusted from the inside, so there was no appearance of structurally significant rust until it failed. When the suspension subframe pulled away, it pulled apart the wiring for the abs, etc. This is a very unsafe condition that appeared with no warning. A quick internet search shows that it's also quite common.

70 Body problem of the 2018 Honda Pilot

Failure Date: 03/05/2021

When I purchased the vehicle in June 2018 I noticed that the hood vibrated excessively at highway speed. I brought it to the attention of the dealership the day after purchase and again at the first oil change. Both times I was informed that due to the lighter metals used in the hood to save weight, the vibration was normal. On March 5, 2021, while driving on the highway at about 65mph, I noticed a loud "slapping" noise coming from under the hood. Upon inspection, it was discovered that the aluminum around the hood side latch (metal hook) mechanism had torn about 75% of the way around the attachment points (three bolts). In order to keep the hood shut, and from separating, it had to be taped to the vehicle body. I drove it to the dealership it was purchased from and all who inspected it agreed that it was a manufacturers' defect and a serious safety issue. Honda corporate representatives agreed.
