7 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2016 Honda Pilot

Failure Date: 05/11/2019

"takata recall" the passenger's side airbag of our 2016 Honda Pilot spontaneously deployed as my daughter was driving approximately 45 mph straight along route 195 in mansfield, CT on may 11, 2019. At the time of the deployment she had passed over a storm drain that sticks out into the narrow road. The drain causes a slight depression in the roadway, which the wheels rolled over. There was no impact. There was no accident. She managed to keep her wits about her so she didn't get hit on the busy, narrow road. The outside of the car is pristine. The interior is a mess. The side curtain airbag is down, blocking visibility, and the side airbag deployed from the front passenger's seat. The deployment took out the headliner and tore the passenger's seat apart. Our car has been sitting at a Honda dealership and now at a body repair facility for two weeks. Honda tells us it's not their fault. They claim we have a bent control arm on the passengers side front of the car. However, we have felt no pulling, shaking, tremors, bumping or other effects our mechanic assures us would happen with a bent control arm. We were told by the Honda dealer that repairs could cost $5,000 to $10,000 but have no official estimate. We have turned the case over to our insurance company.

Failure Date: 04/01/2017

Takata recall: I got a recall notice for the driver's side air bag. . I took car to hyannis Honda, hyannis, MA and got new one installed. The car was hit head-on while driving on a town road. A other car crossed the center line. Both cars were going about 30 mph ( over 60mph). The other car's airbag worked; air-bag went off. The new air-bag in my car failed to work.

10 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2007 Honda Pilot

Failure Date: 10/12/2016

I called south hills Honda, 3663 washington rd, mcmurray, PA 15317 on October 12th, 2016 for passenger side air bag replacement and it has been over 2 months with no call back indicating this part is available for replacement. Honda knew that this part would need replaced when they replaced the same air bag in the drivers side. When I had drivers side replaced shh made we wait until I threatened to contact Honda motor company as to my having to wait for two plus hours on a scheduled 15 minute repair. Now Honda and shh are requesting I keep the front passenger seat unoccupied while I wait for this repair, except they are not being responsible to get this done in a timely manner.

11 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2010 Honda Pilot

Failure Date: 09/29/2016

Contacted regarding recall of passenger side airbag in July 2016. Called local dealer in frisco texas. Was put on a waiting list and for as told we would be notifed when part was available. We have called every 2 weeks since the end of July and have been told the same thing. : the part is back ordered and should be available in 2 weeks. We have still not had the part replaced and have not heard from the local dealership. It has been over 90 days.

12 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2007 Honda Pilot

Failure Date: 08/12/2016

We made an appointment in August with the bob rohrman Honda in lafayette, in to replace the passenger side airbag. At that time, they told us that the part was not available, but that they would call us to let us know when it was and to make arrangements for the repair. Four months later, we had heard nothing. My wife called today and discovered that they had the part but did not call us. How could such an important safety issue be disregarded by the dealer?.

13 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2011 Honda Pilot

Failure Date: 08/04/2016

Takata recall I have reached out to Honda 3 seperate times in relationship to providing a rental vehicle since receiving the notification our vehicle is part of the takata recall. They suggest we do not have anyone ride in the passenger seat as part of their recommendation. With a family of 4 with two small children in car seats there recommendation is not possible. Our other vehicle they suggest we drive is a Honda ridgeline, also part of the recall for the passenger side airbag. There is also not enough room in the back to seat 2 children in car seats along with an adult. Each time we have called that say they will escalate the case. We have yet to hear a response in a month.

14 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2011 Honda Pilot

Failure Date: 07/20/2016

We are expected a wait of possibly months and forgo using the passenger seat. This is unreasonable since we use our auto everyday and many times with multiple passengers who can not climb to the rear to use the small seats. Also, I am sure that the driver side air bag is also a takata bag. Should we stop driving our auto all together? I think we should be given a loaner if this is the case.

15 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2006 Honda Pilot

Failure Date: 07/20/2016

Rakata recall. I took my car to Honda of chantilly for the passenger side airbag recall. They did the work and gave me my car back. While it was in they replaced the battery, and I asked for the old one back so I could return it to the store where I purchased it for a refund. When I got back in my car to leave, the old battery wasn't in it. I checked and they hadn't replaced my battery. Turns out they did the airbag recall and battery replacement on someone else's car. They had recorded that they had performed the recall and sent me on my way, and if I hadn't asked for my old battery back nobody would have known that I still had the defective airbag in my vehicle. They didn't check the VIN when they did the work.

16 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2003 Honda Pilot

Failure Date: 07/07/2016

Takata recall. I took my Honda Pilot to crown motors Honda dealership due to the airbag recalls then when it was done I was just given the keys and then another recall happened but I couldn't get the second one fix due to the parts being out of stock then my friend drove my Honda Pilot and hit a deer omg that was my first accident for my Honda Pilot and the airbags never went off and ugh we were in the back roads of oregon at night heading back to California add to that we had her 2 kids and my 2 kids and 2 of their friends but no airbags ever went off I thought the side airbags would have with the impact. I got lucky that the front airbags didn't go off since it was recalled and I never got it fixed.

17 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2009 Honda Pilot

Failure Date: 07/01/2016

Takata recall. A letter was sent to me in July 2016 regarding the passenger side airbag. The safety concern was the airbag could cause metal fragments to injure the passengers in the vehicle if the airbag was deployed. The suggestion was to "not sit in the front passenger seat" until the parts were available for the recall/repair. A remedy was supposed to be done by summer/fall 2016 and I have still not received any update from Honda. We purchased this particular model because it can seat up to 8 and fit our whole family. Not sitting in the front passenger seat for 5 months was really not a viable option. Instead when we are forced to use all seats, we put our family at risk for airbag to go off and 'metal fragments' potentially injuring our family. This is unacceptable.

18 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2010 Honda Pilot

Failure Date: 07/01/2016

Takata recall Honda informed us in July that our passenger side airbag is defected and when we called to get it repaired we were informed they were on back order and would call us when they come in. As of August 31st, we still have not heard from Honda. We have been having to drive 2 cars around while we are in town as we can't get our whole family to fit given there are 2 kids in car seats still. We only requested alternate transportation for our road trip labor day weekend as it's a family trip and we can't use the 3rd row seat of our Pilot given we have to put our suit cases in the back. Lisa (phone number 909-664-9269) from american Honda claim rep was extremely rude twisting my words around and making the situation completely worse when it did not have to be. She said that Honda will not provide us alternate transportation and therefore we will have to use all the seats in our car which is unsafe in order to fit our 2 suitcases and our family. I will say that the Honda automobile customer service reps that answered the initial call were extremely nice and helpful (I only got one name and that was virgina). However once our claim got moved up to the claim reps is when I didn't receive any respect or understanding of our situation and forcing us to be in an unsafe situation.

20 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2008 Honda Pilot

Failure Date: 07/15/2015

I received a recall notice for the driver's side airbag and had the repair performed in may. In July, I received a second recall notice for the driver's side airbag which clearly states "even if your vehicle was previously repaired, your vehicle is still covered by this recall and will need to be repaired again. " however, on checking the VIN number on both the recall website and with my dealership, there are no open recalls shown. Which is correct - that there must be a second repair or that there are no further repairs necessary?.

21 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2004 Honda Pilot

Failure Date: 05/04/2015

Takata recall srs light remains on two days and 50 miles after driver side airbag recall repair was made, srs light came on and stayed on. Screw found in driver's side floor board. Returned to dealership to be told, the sensor is bad and not under the recall or warranty. $800 to repair and necessary to pass inspection. In reading other takata recall complaints, noticed this to be a common problem after the recall repair was made.

22 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2003 Honda Pilot

Failure Date: 03/24/2015

Received recall notices for both passenger and driver-side airbags, NHTSA recalls 14v-349 and 14v-351. 14v-349 advises avoiding having a passenger sit in the front seat for safety reasons. Contacted dealership in early February about performing service, they ordered parts. Honda has not provided dealership with parts to make the repair, and it is now approaching 60 days since order was put in. I see many similar complaints on NHTSA website. Honda is now breaking the law with regard to these airbag recalls by not providing the parts to make the repairs within 60 days, and we are all left to drive unsafe vehicles in the mean-time. Airbags are supposed to save lives, not end them! NHTSA must do something about this! stiffer penalties are apparently the only way Honda is going to comply.

23 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2005 Honda Pilot

Failure Date: 02/11/2015

Notified of recall for driver side airbag. Have contacted local Honda dealer and Honda America customer service. Matter has not been resolved. What is my next step?.

24 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2004 Honda Pilot

Failure Date: 02/10/2015

I own a 2004 Honda Pilot. I received the recall notice in Feb 2015 of the issue with the passenger side air bag. I called my local dealer, brown's arlington Honda, for repair. The dealer said the parts are back ordered, and would take 3-4 weeks to arrive, and said they would order the parts. I called today, 1 April 2015, 6 weeks later, and the parts have not arrived. The dealer says it will be another 3-4 weeks. It appears both Honda and brown's arlington Honda are purposefully dragging their feet on this recall repair.

25 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2003 Honda Pilot

Failure Date: 02/04/2015

Contacted scott robinson service center - torrance ,CA. On Feb 03 ,2015 for replacement of recalled airbags. . Was told that they were out of stock ans would call me. When available. After six weeks of no contact with service center I called them. Was told that they only had passenger side air bag in stock and would have to back order drivers side airbag. . I opted to have them install the passenger side and now waiting to hear on the driver side air bag. In one week it will be 60 days that I have been waiting for the completion of the recalled air bags.

26 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2003 Honda Pilot

Failure Date: 01/16/2015

The contact owns a 2003 Honda Pilot. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 14v351000 (air bags) and stated that the part was available for the driver side air bag, but not available for the passenger side air bag via NHTSA campaign number: 14v349000 (air bags). The dealer did not give a specific date for when the part would become available for the passenger side air bag. The contact was unable to determine when both recall repairs would be performed. The manufacturer was contacted and could not provide an estimated date for when the contact's vehicle would receive the recall repair. The contact had not experienced a failure.

27 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2004 Honda Pilot

Failure Date: 12/04/2014

I called the 800 number listed on the letter to Honda owners to enquire as to whether my Honda Pilot was subject to recall for the driver's side airbag. The operator, "valencia" (decline to provide last name), stated that it was not. When asked why it was not as it was in the affected year range, 2003-2007, she stated that the recall was VIN specific. When asked how Honda could know that as they don't know the vehicle content by VIN (per danielle at the same number the day before), she could not answer. I asked her if Honda could assign a case manager to determine whether or not my vehicle contained a takata driver's airbag and she stated that I would have to contact a dealer on my own. When asked if she would confirm this with her supervisor, she did so and replied that what she had said was official Honda policy. When asked her supervisor's name she declined strating that she could not reveal this information. When informed that a contemporaneous record of this call had been transcribed and would be provided to counsel in the event of an incident involving my vehicle's airabgs she was noncommittal. I would hope that this sort of reactgion in the course of a voluntary manufacturer's recall will be noted by NHTSA in its review of this matter.

28 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2005 Honda Pilot

Failure Date: 11/10/2014

Passenger side airbag should be covered and replaced under NHTSA recall 14v-700, mfr recall jm3 which states that any vehicle ever registered in the designated high humidity states, which includes georgia, is subject to the recall. While currently a resident of north carolina we were previously residents of georgia where this vehicle was registered. As such I contacted a local Honda dealer who stated the driver's side was covered but the passenger side was not and they replaced the driver's side unit. I again asked them to replace the passenger side and they said no but to continue to watch for additional recalls. I then contacted Honda's national customer service number and opened a case indicating that my vehicle was previously registered in georgia and requested they replace it as a hazard as defined in the Honda and NHTSA recall. A week later they advised that they would not replace the passenger side unit under the recall and offered no explanation. I recently sent an email to the local dealer's service manager regarding my concerns and requesting they honor the recall but received no response. It makes no sense that they would change one side deemed a safety hazard but leave the passenger in a potentially lethal situation when both units have been exposed to the same high humidity environment.

29 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2003 Honda Pilot

Failure Date: 10/29/2014

When I called to inquire of Honda about the partial recall for the passenger side airbag I was told not to worry about it since it hadn't exploded yet. Really? I guess Honda isn't interested in repeat business; I have owned nothing but their products. Looks like I need to find a new(or smarter) manufacturer.

30 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2003 Honda Pilot

Failure Date: 10/23/2014

My vehicle is listed in the 6/2/2014 recall notice for the passenger airbag. Over the past 4 months I have tried to get the vehicle repaired per the recall notice and have been repeatedly told by the dealer that Honda has not given them instructions about how to fix per the recall. I have contacted Honda corporate and they report they will get back to me at some unknown time. Based on the reports of fatalities relating to Honda air bags, I am concerned whether or not the 2003 Honda Pilot is safe to transport my family and friends. I request that either Honda promptly repair per the recall notice or officially and immediately let me know that the vehicle is safe to transport people in its current state. Additionally, I am concerned about the driver's side airbag, even though the driver's side airbag is not listed in the regional safety recall. My vehicle has spent significant time in hot and humid areas, including south carolina. I can find no data that gives me confidence that drivers side airbags in vehicles registered in states other than florida, south carolina, and other "hot" states are safe. I request that NHTSA immediately review the facts and data for driver's side airbags for vehicles not covered in the regional recall because of the "hot" state vs. "non-hot" state differentiation and issue information to the public regarding the risks. Thank you for your consideration and help.

33 Side/window Air Bag problem of the 2006 Honda Pilot

Failure Date: 06/20/2010

The contact owns a 2006 Honda Pilot. The contact stated that while driving approximately 3 5 mph, the passenger side curtain air bag independently deployed. The passenger suffered unknown injuries from the air bag deployment. The dealer advised performed a diagnostic but was unable to determine the cause of the air bag deployment yet stated the failure potentially could have been caused by the hot wire front the front end of the vehicle to the rear power inverter. The dealer cut the air bag from the vehicle using a razor blade and advised the contact the vehicle was safe to drive. The manufacturer advised that the failure could have been caused by a trailer package that was installed in the vehicle. The failure mileage was approximately 66,971.

We were rear-ended, causing us to crash into a guard rail (directly in front of the driver), which then spun our vehicle around, causing the entire driver's side of the vehicle to come to rest against the guard rail. The crash occurred at roughly 30 mph, but neither the front, nor the side airbags deployed.
