4 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2019 Honda Pilot

Failure Date: 07/03/2020

Honda Pilot 2019 -driving on a highway with my whole family with 3 kids at the back, at a speed ~40mph. The lane in which I was driving (right) slowed down, so moved to the left lane. That lane was also slowing as I can see the cars in the front slowing down and stopping. My attempts to stop the car proved futile. The car did not stop. 1) repeated pumping of the breaks did not yield to stop the car. Honda Pilot collided with the car in the front. 2) the cars system to slow the car while approaching a vehicle in the front did not function. 3) airbags did not deploy at all - none of the airbags deployed. - collision center was literally baffling, over this - have no clue how the airbags did not deploy with this kind of a collision. I seriously suspect that there is some thing seriously flawed. Since I'm not an automobile engineer, I'm not sure of technicality involved in this. Something went wrong terribly, that the car did not stop on braking, car did not slow down, & the airbags did not deploy. When informed about this to Honda, Honda was referring to geico, that they will do the investigation. Geico says that its not their problem and Honda should do the investigation. As a common man I would like to have this problem investigated and necessary action to be taken. I see they subrogate each other, which is not correct. I'm not sure how many cars are running in this condition on the road. Please do take necessary steps to check on this. I can give all the required documents, pictures and police reports in this regard. I need assistance in investigation of this accident and find out why the car did not respond. I see that there are other recalls with reference to Honda Pilot 2019, though my car is not on the recall, I have my doubts that there is malfunctioning component in the car, that has caused this flaw. Hoping to hear from you soon. Thank you.

10 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2011 Honda Pilot

Failure Date: 04/22/2019

Our vehicle was involved in a near-head on collision with damage primarily on the front driver's side quarter of the vehicle. Our vehicle was travelling at least 45 miles per hour, the exact speed is unknown. The driver's side curtain airbags did not deploy, but the passenger's side curtain airbags did. My wife was the driver and only occupant, she briefly lost consciousness after the impact. The driver's side door was partially crushed in and the top of the frame was bent in towards the cabin. When she awakened, my wife saw the door frame within a couple of inches of her face. Thankfully she did not seem to strike her head against the frame, but it was extremely lucky that she didn't. When the first responders arrived, they had to cut the connection to the side curtain airbags and they were surprised to see that the collision had not triggered them. I have attached a picture of the vehicle door frame and the airbags that failed to deploy. We wanted to bring this to your attention just in case it is not an isolated incident.

Takata recall. . . Please note my car was up to date on all service recalls for my 2005 Honda Pilot. On may 13, 2016 I was involved in an accident where both vehicles were completely totalled. I was hit on the drivers side door (at a angle approx where the firewall is located) all the airbags failed to deploy which everyone assisting with the accident from the firemen, policemen, emts, and hospital employees commented on in surprise. The other car hit mine so hard that my car ended up facing oncoming traffic and the impact caused the other vehicle to fishtail and resulted in his right rear quarter panel making contact with my left quarter panel as well. My vehicle's floor buckled and the drivers side door was so damaged that the firemen had to pry it open to extract me. This happened while both cars were in motion on a main street. I was struck by the other vehicle after taking a left hand turn after stopping at a stop sign exiting from a highway.

21 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2011 Honda Pilot

24 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2005 Honda Pilot

Failure Date: 08/18/2015

I did not have an incident. I am just reporting that I had to have the driver's side airbag sensor replaced in my Honda Pilot at a mileage of 204,000. After reading through online forums, several other Honda Pilot owners reported air bags not deploying during accidents and problems with airbag sensors. When I had the problem fixed at my local Honda dealer, I asked if this problem would be reported to Honda. The manager told me no it wouldn't. I asked how they kept track of problems then if they didn't monitor common repairs and problems with their vehicles. He said he doesn't know and didn't know who I should contact. This repair was $220 in August of 2015. The airbag sensor light indicator was lit on my dashboard for well over a year, maybe two years until we had the problem fixed. I think Honda should include this potentially serious problem in a recall!.

27 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2005 Honda Pilot

Failure Date: 02/13/2015

I was moving less than five mph as I started to move after stopping at a 4 way stop sign in a parking lot. A 2013 Chevrolet impala moving approximately 45mph struck my vehicle broadside at the driver side front wheel causing personal injury and resulting in damage causing my Honda Pilot to be declared a total loss. Despite this level of impact the side curtain airbag did not inflate or activate in any way. . I deliberately looked for safety equipment when shopping for a replacement to our previous vehicle. A major reason I chose the 2005 Honda Pilot exl-dvd was the side curtain airbags. However when I was struck broadside by another vehicle with enough force that the Pilot was declared a total loss the side airbag failed to deploy. This failure to deploy thereby causing my head to impact on the driver's side door frame hard enough to cause a large lump on the side of my head and resulting in concussion and other injuries. Some of the injuries are permanent and I am still in severe pain and being treated by multiple doctors eighteen months after the collision with no improvement nor any current outlook for recovery! I now have a permanent hearing loss as well as tinnitus preventing me from having even a few minutes of peace & quiet! while the accident was the fault of the driver that ran a stop sign and "t-boned" my car, had the air bag deployed I strongly feel it would have prevented my head from the severe impact with the metal frame of the Honda Pilot and I would not have spent the last eighteen months in pain severe enough to prevent me from having a normal life! many days the pain has kept me in bed for most of the day as well as keeping me from sleeping at night!.

28 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2011 Honda Pilot

Failure Date: 01/08/2015

Coming out of a 30mph zone into a 55mph zone -- I had accelerated to about 45mpg when I hit an icy section of a the road. I lost control of our Honda Pilot on a gradual turn in the road. The Pilot turned sideways. I quickly tried to regain control as the vehicle positioned itself forward, but headed for the ditch. Still out of control, a utility pole was unavoidable. I hit the pole head on at a 45 mph speed. The vehicle snapped the utility pole in half and the vehicle came to a stop after 20 feet. Neither airbag deployed for me or my passenger. There is extensive front end damage. The vehicle could not have hit the utility pole any more dead center on. And yet, at 45 mph and driving through a utility pole, the air bags did not deploy. We walked away from the accident. But, at what speed and how much more head on could we have gotten for the air bags to deploy?.

29 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2004 Honda Pilot

Failure Date: 06/20/2014

We were on another summer trip and the airbag warning light came on. This is the big red light to the far left of the panel. Calling Honda in franklin TN they had no idea what could happen while continuing to drive the vehicle. Calling another dealership they assured me that it was most likely a sensor and the airbags would simply not deploy. Honda as recalls now for bad airbags. 1- our 2004 does not fall into the recall period 2 - Honda should pay for any issue related to bad airbag technology regardless of how old the car is, just like they do with seat belts. If we would have been in a wreck during the time that light was on, the airbag would not have deployed. 3- any part of the airbag/sensor/ seatbelt system should not be merely covered under a limited warranty. It should be covered for the life of the car. This is a safety issue. If they cannot stand behind the safety of the car they need to get out of the business.

30 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2005 Honda Pilot

Failure Date: 06/10/2014

The airbag warning light is lit. First intermittently, now constantly. Was diagnosed ($120 at burns Honda for taking a reading off on-board computer) to be a faulty right-front impact sensor. The dealership is out of the part, so I need to wait for it to be shipped. The car was never in an accident, the air bags never deployed. The sensor just stopped working (rusted out?). The same thing happened a couple of months prior with a wheel speed sensor. Do Honda's electronics parts have operational life of 100,000 miles? I feel the airbag sensors should be recalled, and replaced at the manufacturer's expense.

31 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2005 Honda Pilot

Failure Date: 04/02/2014

Vehicle was taken to dealership for recall on other parts and we told them the airbag safety restraint light has been on for several months. We were told the diagnosis would cost 38 dollars plus tax. They diagnosed faulty left and right front airbag sensors. They told us in an accident the airbags would not deploy. This item would not be covered under warranty and would have to be done at our expense. After much objection they said " sorry theres nothing we can do about it". With that we were told we would have to schedule the repair at a later date and parts would have to be ordered. The dealer sent us on our way knowing if we crashed, especially in a front end impact, the airbags on their product they sold to us as "safe for the whole family" would not deploy. Unacceptable!! please help.

32 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2011 Honda Pilot

Failure Date: 12/16/2013

My wife had an accident and crashed into the back of a parked vehicle. The crash itself was her fault, however the airbag deployed into her face and caused injuries, fracturing the bridge of her nose, bleeding in her left eye and basically made her whole left side of her face swell up to the point where I could not recognize her. My wife is 5'3" and needs to adjust her seating position close to the steering wheel in order for her feet to reach the brake/accelerator pedal. My contention is that at a low speed accident, if the air bag did not deploy I think she would have walked away with no injuries. Alternatively, if the car had a telescoping steering wheel then she would have had enough clearance to avoid the airbag deploying into her face.
