36 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2005 Honda Pilot

Failure Date: 06/12/2013

This incident has happened on a few occasions with me driving the vehicle and additionally with my wife driving (she drives it the most). I started the vehicle, placed it in gear and started to drive it up the street. As I approached a traffic light, I glanced at the speedometer, and noticed the maintenance required and srs light on. This puzzled me because we never experienced any issues with the vehicle other than regular maintenance lights (filters, oil change, etc). I turned the vehicle off for a few seconds, restarted it and the light went out. Afew weeks later, it happened again. The difference was that this time I noticed it right after putting the vehicle in drive and driving off. Thinking it happened because of a possible glitch in the ignition, I immediately pulled over and turned the vehicle off and restarted it. Just like the first time, the light didn't come back on. The 3rd time it happened, it remained on the entire time I drove and to and from the grocery store. Now, it pretty much does it intermittently - cycling intermittent to steady at various times. After searching online for recalls, I read several complaints from drivers in various states (USA), they are experiencing the same problem and have voiced it to Honda but they haven't issued a recall; thus stating that the airbag may not deploy during an accident and they are not responsible. Instead Honda dealers are willing to charge approx. $120 for diagnostics and $300+ for repair - which is entirely unfair to us consumers. However Honda, issued a recall on the 2005 Honda odyssey which had very similar (if not exact) problems with its srs. Honda is aware of this issue and doesn't seem to care about the safety of the motorists. This is clearly a safety issue and need to be recalled on these vehicles.

37 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2004 Honda Pilot

Failure Date: 06/01/2013

Srs red light on. No previous collisions or airbag deployments. Dealer states that srs controller needs replacement, but not covered by Honda. Airbags might not deploy in accident. Cost prohibitive to replace srs controller in houston, TX, they want $800-$1000 to replace this safety item. Calling Honda customer service about premium and exploitive prices charge by their dealers in houston is of no avail. Honda should take notice of this problem seriously before anyone gets injured in car crash by failure of airbag deployment. At minimum, I expect Honda to offer minimum or subsidized pricing and prevent customer exploitation by their dealers. Please help.

44 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2011 Honda Pilot

Failure Date: 07/28/2012

Purchased brand new Pilot in June 2011. Around noon I was driving down on stretch of road at about 60 mph when I saw a vehicle with a trailer moving ahead of me. As I approached to pass the vehicle it appeared to slow down and started turning left ahead on the road. The trailer it was hauling did not have any signal or brake lights. I attempted to slowed by applying my brakes but the Pilot did not stop after applying the brakes or slow down. It seem to accelerate instead of stopping even though I had my foot all the way down on the brake pedal. I saw ditches on both sides of the road so I was not able to avoid the crash. The other vehicle was half way turning so I hit the back of the trailer and it went left and I went right on the road. The stopped Pilot started smoking inside and everyone jumped out of the Pilot. It was later determined that the smoke could have been caused by the seat belts and the force of impact. Even though the Pilot had major front end damage the air bags did not deploy and the air bag control unit along with the air bag sensors had to be replaced. Everyone was wearing a seat belt and the front seat belts were damaged beyond repair from the impact. Two of the back seat passengers suffered minor injuries from the impact but did not require medical attention.

48 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2005 Honda Pilot

Failure Date: 10/11/2011

On or about October of 2011 I was driving my 2005 Honda Pilot when another vehicle cut in front of me and a collision occurred (t-bone). To by disbelief the airbag did not deploy. A few weeks later I asked an employee of a Honda dealership about the airbag not deploying and he indicated to me that inside of the front bumper there is a gold ball and before the airbag can deploy it must have a direct center hit with another object. In my opinion the hit from the accident was about as direct as you can get it. I believe that there might be a defect of the airbag for not deploying.

49 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2004 Honda Pilot

Failure Date: 08/15/2011

My 2004 Honda Pilot is having a srs problem for the second time. It is the part # 81334-s9v-a03 which is for the sensor under the passenger seat. The dealership stated that the airbags may not deploy with the sensor out. This is the second time this has happened for this same vehicle in 3 years. The first was in January 2008 so it has gone only 24k miles in that time. When checking the first time there was a recall on some sensors for the 2004 Honda Pilot for this sensor but none for my vehicles VIN.

53 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2008 Honda Pilot

Failure Date: 02/26/2010

I was turning right off of an access road and was behind a GMC yukon. The yukon began to move so I began to accelerate while making sure the way was still clear. The yukon stopped very suddenly and I hit the rear of the yukon. It appears my bumper went under the yukon bumper and I sustained major damage to my 2008 Honda Pilot. My air bag did not deploy and I was told by the wrecker driver that this was because the sensor in the bumper was not activated. My hand was broken and I received some injury to my neck and chest. It appears that either the air bag failed or there should be a better way to activate the air bag. I can submit picture if desired.

54 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2004 Honda Pilot

Failure Date: 02/20/2010

I have a 2004 Honda Pilot and my srs dash light has come on at least 3 times. The last time was when I placed my computer on the front passenger seat. The light came on and will not go out. Each time it cost over $100 the repair/reset. This is upsetting that the air bag will not deploy in an accident.

55 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2005 Honda Pilot

Failure Date: 01/15/2010

I am the original owner of a 2005 Honda Pilot. My problem is that the airbag light has come on in my vehicle. I was told by the dealership that my airbags will not deploy in case of a crash. I had to initially pay 100 dollars just to get them to look at it and now I am having to wait up to 2 months for the part that is backordered. I am very scared that something may happen and I will not be protected.

56 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2003 Honda Pilot

Failure Date: 08/15/2009

My '03 Honda Pilot was impacted in the front passenger side by a driver backing up a bit fast and none of the air bags were deployed. There was damaged done to the front fender to the extent of buckling one of the fender corners. Shortly after this incident the srs light came on and it will not go off. Called dealer about the srs light and was told that it is probably a defect with the airbags, airbag sensors or a module. I have been told that it can be as much as $1000 dollars to get it fixed after parts and labor. I have been researching this issue and have discovered plenty of complaints about accidents with this vehicle and the airbags not deploying. I believe there is a critical safety issue with this vehicle that needs to be addressed and fixed free of charge by Honda.

57 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2003 Honda Pilot

Failure Date: 03/08/2006

: the contact stated the srs light illuminated. The dealership determined the cable reel was damaged. There is a technical service bulletin, NHTSA item number # 10005879, which states the damaged cable reel can cause srs diagnostic trouble codes (dtcs). Both occupants inside the vehicle were wearing seat belts; however the seat belts did not hold the occupants to the seat and the front air bags did not deploy. The seat belt did not unbuckle; however there was too much slack in the belt that did not retract back into the side post. As a result, both of the occupant's heads hit the windshield sustaining injuries to the head, neck and ribs. The police filed a report at the scene of the accident. The insurance company deemed the vehicle a complete loss.

61 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2003 Honda Pilot

Failure Date: 04/08/2004

On April 8,2004, the srs light came on in my Pilot. I phoned the dealership and was told it might just need to reset itself because I had something sitting on the passenger seat and that it might take a couple of days for it to reset. The light never went off. I took it in to be checked on April 14, 2004. The service tech reset the srs light and I was told to bring it back if the light came back on. About 20 miles down the road, the light came back on. I returned to the dealership that afternoon where the service tech told me that the Pilot was unsafe to drive because the airbags would not deploy. I was told that the parts would be overnighted and my vehicle would be ready the next afternoon. One of the parts came in but the other part is on national back order. Monday, I was told that the part is on "critical backorder" and hopefully will arrive on April 26. 2004. The dealership has provided me with a rental vehicle. . I was told that when a part is on national backorder, it can takes months for the part to be available. I, too, like some of the other Pilot owners, was told that my cell phone plugged in , could have caused the light to come on. I think that might be a little bit of a stretch.

62 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2003 Honda Pilot

Failure Date: 02/15/2004

The srs light on my 2003 Honda Pilot came on about a month and a half ago and has stayed on. The dealer looked at it, ordered a part which came in over 3 weeks later, installed the part (I believe it was a new airbag sensor), and still hasn't fixed the problem. They ordered another part which they said would take 3-4 weeks to come in. According to the service department, the airbags would not deploy in an accident currently due to this issue.

63 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2003 Honda Pilot

Failure Date: 12/13/2003

I was involved in head and side impact at highway speed and airbags were not deployed, as they should. As a result my wife received nick and back injuries. Had the airbags deployed as they should injuries would have been less severe if any.
