38 Other Fuel System problem of the 2019 Honda Ridgeline

Failure Date: 08/30/2024

Over the last several months the vehicle developed a strong fuel odor in the engine compartment after being driven. I took it to the Honda dealer to identify the cause on 8/30/24, they kept the vehicle for 2 days and were unable to find a problem although they also observed the strong fuel smell. Their recommendation was to return with gas tank less than half full so they could check that. Fuel smell is clearly in the engine compartment, so I took the vehicle to my local mechanic who used a camera to localize the smell/leak to the top of the engine. They recommended removal of the manifold to diagnose further and identified a significant leak between the high pressure fuel pump and the injectors. They replace the fuel joint pipe, six injectors, and high pressure fuel pump cover which was saturated in fuel. Two areas of concern. First, there is clearly an unadressed leak problem with the fuel joint pipe. It is mentioned in several places on the NHTSA site for this ridgline model and several related model designs. While this vehicle did not catch fire, a significant leak on the high pressure side of the high pressure fuel pump is a clear hazard and should be analyzed to identify the root cause. Second, Honda needs to proactively address this with their dealer technicians. I have no way to verify if they actually disassembled the top of the engine to access the high pressure fuel pump, fuel joint pipe, and injectors, as they told me, but it didn't take long for my local mechanic to identify the issue once they did. Bottom line is this problem is real, occurs frequently enough to appear as an issue reported to NHTSA and will not be easily identified by scanning the vehicle codes which is apparently what the dealer standard practice is.

39 Other Fuel System problem of the 2017 Honda Ridgeline

Failure Date: 06/25/2024

My 2017 Honda Ridgeline started making loud noises coming from the engine. I took it to autozone and they used there diagnostic tool and all that came up was an issue with the oxygen getting into the fuel due to an issue with the fuel injector. On my way home it stopped running as I was making a turn. Mechanic confirmed engine failure. I did research and typed my VIN into kelly blue book recall section and 7 recalls came up, including the engine. But when I called Honda they said only 2 recalls were associated with my VIN. I take good care of my truck and there is not reason why my engine would fail unless there was an issue with manufacturing, or one of the other recalls caused the engine to fail. I purchased my truck for $30k a few years ago and I can’t afford for it to completely inoperable and am certain the engine seized because of a manufacturing issue.

40 Other Fuel System problem of the 2019 Honda Ridgeline

Failure Date: 06/24/2024

We started experiencing hesitation with our 2019 Ridgeline. We then experienced twice the check engine light coming on but eventually clearing on its own. We took the truck to the Honda dealer from where we purchased our Ridgeline new. They mentioned there is a huge backlog on the factory recalled fuel pump, which is part of the root cause of the truck stumbling and hesitating. They additionally cited the fuel injectors as a root cause. We then discovered the repair parts are not available with no date known as to when the parts will arrive. We then checked with the only other Honda dealer in tucson, az and that dealer stated the parts were not expected until December 2024 at the earliest. We then called Honda corporate office in California, and they were even less helpful than the dealerships in town. We are very concerned that we have a 2000 mile trip to take at the end of August when we will temporarily relocate for me to attend graduate school. Is there anything you can do to get Honda moving on acquiring the parts so we don't get stranded somewhere on our trip?.

41 Other Fuel System problem of the 2024 Honda Ridgeline

Failure Date: 06/19/2024

In the first month of owning my Honda Ridgeline (bought new with 5 miles on the odometer), I received two check engine light warnings for the same thing: "emission system problem. Power may be reduced. See your dealer. " dealer says the problem is a part that does not shut and seal the fuel filler part, after refueling with regular gas. I brought it in after the 1st warning, and the check engine light was "fixed" however, soon after, it came on again. So I brought it in a second time, today. It was not fixed today. I was told a part is being delivered and after the part comes in, I will get a phone call to schedule a time for it to be installed. I am concerned that I may get into an accident if the power is suddenly and unexpectedly reduced while I drive. The 1st incidence was around 6-19-24 and the second was on 6-26-24. The second incident happened at around 463 miles.

42 Other Fuel System problem of the 2017 Honda Ridgeline

Failure Date: 05/27/2024

On our way home the motor started ticking loudly and more and more loss of power. All the dash lights came on with the check engine light. We called the dealer and they said to bring it in. We babied it another mile and could no longer go more than 20 mph. We pulled over as soon as we could and the motor couldn’t go any more. Had it towed to the dealership and they said the whole fuel injection system failed and then discovered the rod bearings were destroyed. The car only had 84,000 miles on it and we have only owned it since November of 2023 we had the last service done at the dealership. I know the VIN isn’t right for the recall of the 2017 Ridgelines rod bearings but so many other people have had the same problem. I feel it should at least be looked into more. I do not have a repair invoice yet because it is still at the dealership waiting for a motor to be delivered to put in it.

43 Other Fuel System problem of the 2019 Honda Ridgeline

Failure Date: 05/01/2024

Emissions light came on and code read a faulty fuel injector. I see it is an extremely common issue and warranty has been extended in some states. Honda dealership tried to charge me $2,000 to replace injectors. This is happening to two other Ridgeline owners that I am aquatinted with. It seems that Honda is aware of the issue when I purchased the vehicle.

44 Other Fuel System problem of the 2006 Honda Ridgeline

Failure Date: 04/11/2024

My subframe and back of my truck frame rusted so bad gas tank is close to falling off have a strap holding under it but it’s probably not going to help with a rust hole in the frame.

45 Other Fuel System problem of the 2017 Honda Ridgeline

Failure Date: 04/04/2024

Rod bearings failed, leaving metal shards in the pistons which causes engine the to overheat and seize or catch fire. The engine noise was getting increasingly loud over a 3 day period so I took it into the dealership (Honda of seattle) and they found rod bearings had worn apart and were floating around inside the engine. This requires a full engine replacement. There were no warning lamps.

46 Other Fuel System problem of the 2019 Honda Ridgeline

Failure Date: 04/01/2024

Vehical hesitates while driving worse when power is needed such as passing or climbing. Danger when power is needed and does not respond such as merging on to highway vehical inspected by Honda dealer, no eta on replacement parts it is past 60 days for recall no warning lamps, failure started unknown.

47 Other Fuel System problem of the 2023 Honda Ridgeline

Failure Date: 03/17/2024

I was driving 2 hours on highway trip (65mph) using cruise control. (20 degrees, light flurries, dry road, windy. ) I then slowed to make left turn from the center turn lane. While beginning to cross oncoming lane while making the left turn, the vehicle suddenly lost power and check engine light started flashing. No prior warning to power loss. I barely cleared oncoming traffic, limped to shoulder, and parked. Problem was confirmed at dealership. The issue is known to Honda (also on past models). The dealer also confirmed there's still no fix/recall and that this typically happens in cold weather. The possibility of continued sudden power loss without a recall/repair is alarming and a serious safety issue. Service invoice stated: "customer states the check engine light came on and power was lost. No dtc's were stored. Due to regional weather circumstances moisture will accumulate in the intake manifold. The water then will drain from the intake into the cylinders causing a misfire. ".

48 Other Fuel System problem of the 2019 Honda Ridgeline

Failure Date: 02/08/2024

I contacted north America Honda and they referred me to a local dealer. However, the dealer told me that they cannot repair the fuel pump until it breaks down on the road. According to a report, if the fuel pump malfunctions, it could shut off the fuel supply, which would cause the engine to stop running. As a result, you would lose power steering and it could create a hazardous situation while driving.

49 Other Fuel System problem of the 2019 Honda Ridgeline

Failure Date: 02/02/2024

Honda issued a recall for my vehicle in Feb 2024 and I have sought to have this issue resolved since then. I have visited my local dealer from whom I purchased the vehicle over 12 times since and they have declined to put me on a list to obtain the replacement part. Today, the parts department clerk told me that all the parts that they receive from Honda go to fix the vehicles that they have on the lot for sale. They would not accept an order for the part to repair my vehicle and told me that I would just have to keep checking in with them. I have been waiting for over 10 months for their proactive response to no avail. There is no indication that Honda has any intention of repairing this defect and the safety consequence of a potential of an 'increased risk of a crash or injury' remains. My wife does not even want to travel in this vehicle due to the unresolved risk that this vehicle presents. I strongly feel that Honda should be required to resolve this issue for the existing cliental with in use vehicles prior to being allowed to fix their unsold in stock used vehicles for sale and profit (to the detriment of existing customers). This would certainly put the pressure on Honda to expedite the remedy of this long existing recall.

50 Other Fuel System problem of the 2018 Honda Ridgeline

Failure Date: 02/01/2024

Honda recall on fuel pump from February 2024 has not been corrected due to Honda failing to supply part to local dealer for repair. I have concerns of the fuel pump failing while driving and have made multiple calls to Honda asking for the repair. Honda reply is that when the part is available they will notify. Six months is a long time to wait on a defect that could have serious consequence.

51 Other Fuel System problem of the 2019 Honda Ridgeline

Failure Date: 01/27/2024

Emissions system problem alert message and check engine light came on Jan 27th 2024. Vehicle mileage at this point was 59,960. I took my 2019 2wd Ridgeline sport in for service early Feb. 2024 to have the problem investigated. It was deemed as bad fuel injectors. Parts were not in stock and were ordered. The check engine light and the alert went away the very next day. Then there was a recall issued for the fuel pump around mid February 2024. Parts were not available so it was ordered. Fast forward to March (no check engine light or alerts) I did some research on fuel pump issues and found that it could cause the check engine light to come on and the emissions system alert. March 22nd I took it in for the fuel pump replacement, upon arrival they stated that the fuel injectors were in and they would replace those as well. I declined them being replaced based upon my fuel pump research. Fuel pump replaced only. Between March 22nd 2024 and oct 2 2024 (no check engine lights or emissions system alerts) oct 3rd both the alert and check engine light came on and then went off the very next day. January 7 2025 the alert and check engine light returned and stayed on for about 10 days and then went off. Service scheduled for January 24th 2025. Fuel injector were changed for $1148. 00 as of now no further issues vehicle mileage 70,405. The complaint is that this is a known fuel injector problem and I don't believe that Honda did a very good job of containing the fuel injectors that were not manufactured to proper specifications as noted in the warranty extension for fuel injectors dated 2/11/2021 which only states certain 2017-2019 Honda Ridgelines, my guess by certain VIN #s in my opinion Honda should cover the the cost of replacing my fuel injectors. There are loads of customers out there, if you do the research, that have had the same issue as me. For reference I have attached the warranty extension notice.

52 Other Fuel System problem of the 2023 Honda Ridgeline

Failure Date: 01/19/2024

2023 rlt, about 1300 miles on the odometer, temperature was between 4 and 7 degrees f, it was a sunny day with clear roads. I drop 68mph for 70 miles, stopped to make a left turn, and when accelerating through the turn, the blinking orange check engine light came on and the vehicle would not accelerate beyond about 35 mph. I was towed to the nearest dealership from the location of the incident, which occurred over 400 miles from my home. It could have been fatal if there was traffic I had to merge with at the time when the engine was not allowing enough power. It happened at noon in a very small town in north dakota. It could also have been fatal if it had happened in an area with no cell service and no traffic to stop and help as well. Thank goodness I didn't have any children with me and there was somewhere warm to wait the 2 hours for the tow truck. I found an online Honda Ridgeline owners forum where many, many people have reported this same issue: cold temperatures, going highway speeds for a certain amount of time, slowing down or stopping, and then trying to speed up to highway speeds again when the check engine light comes on and the engine limps. The Honda dealership where my vehicle was towed confirmed that I was subject to this "very rare glitch" that they know about and say there is nothing they can do to fix it and no assurances that it won't happen again. I'm not sure how to regain trust in a brand new pickup that I know has this issue that I have experienced first hand in the cold and could experience again that might result in a fatal outcome if Honda doesn't fix this known issue.

53 Other Fuel System problem of the 2020 Honda Ridgeline

Failure Date: 01/15/2024

The vehicle auto stop start function failed causing the vehicle to stall. Recall for previous known issue with this system has been performed. Vehicle has a brand new battery installed by Honda service at a Honda dealership. When outside temperature is below 10 degrees fahrenheit intermittently at a stop where the vehicle auto stop start engages and stops the engine the system fails to restart. Warning in panel states to press brake and push start button to restart vehicle. Vehicle stalled and was immobile at intersection until driver restarted vehicle manually.

54 Other Fuel System problem of the 2017 Honda Ridgeline

Failure Date: 01/05/2024

Well maintained 2017 Honda Ridgeline rtl-e, being operated within owners manual defined parameters, experienced a rapid loss of engine control. Vehicle was inoperable, and required a tow truck to be delivered to a Honda certified service center. Honda certified service center, has found the #6 connecting rod bearing to have failed.

55 Other Fuel System problem of the 2017 Honda Ridgeline

Failure Date: 01/01/2024

Emission system warning light came on and vehicle running a little rough. Vehicle has ~92k miles on it. Light came on about 2 months ago but after two weeks, no longer appeared. Taking to dealer tomorrow for diagnosis. Reading literature issue with fuel rail system. Known problem with Honda 3. 5l engines apparently.

56 Other Fuel System problem of the 2018 Honda Ridgeline

Failure Date: 12/01/2023

The fuel pump recall was issued in December 2023 and it still hasn't been repaired. It is almost a year later and when I have tried to contact the dealer and the company about the status of the recall, I don't get a response.

57 Other Fuel System problem of the 2017 Honda Ridgeline

Failure Date: 11/30/2023

Was driving on 2 lane highway when truck suddenly decelerated, started shuddering, so I pulled to side of road. Dash lights started cycling through warning lights, ultimately settled on saying it was an emission system problem. Car would not accelerate beyond 30-35 miles an hour after that and would even then suddenly lose power then regain it. But still could not get above 30 or 35 miles an hour. Luckily, no one was behind when this happened and I was able to pull to the side of the road. Normally this is a 55-60 mile an hour busy 2 lane highway. And I was less than a mile from home so was able to limp home. The next morning, tried to drive to the dealer, and had to return home because it would speed up to 45-50, but then would do the same thing again that I described above. Had to get the car towed to the dealer. I checked the obd scanner and it said the problem was p0087, fuel rail pressure too low. Dealer said it was that the fuel pump needed to be replaced. Vehicle has about 93,000 miles and is a 2017 model. Don't have the repair invoice yet, picking up the vehicle and paying the $1,700 dollar repair bill this afternoon. Can provide it later if you need/want it.

58 Other Fuel System problem of the 2023 Honda Ridgeline

Failure Date: 11/27/2023

Loss of motive power. Temperature 35 f. Exited interstate after 2 hours of 70 mph. Upon exit, check engine light began flashing and power was diminished severely. After shutting vehicle down and letting it cool, it was normal. Dealer was unable to replicate the problem. Dealer says that it is an issue known to Honda, caused by condensation in the intake manifold in cold weather. Dealer says that Honda has been unable to solve. This could be very dangerous.

59 Other Fuel System problem of the 2021 Honda Ridgeline

Failure Date: 11/11/2023

After driving on the freeway for about 1 hour, took the exit to the right. Check engine light came on and vehicle had loss of power and was shuttering. Attempts at accelerating were met with little to no power. Tried turning off eco mode, no change. Limped to the first safe place to stop, avoiding any fast traffic behind. Shut off vehicle, and when I started again, no check engine light, vehicle operated as normal. I fear to think what would have happened when if my child were driving and had to make a merge onto heavy traffic. This is a serious safety issue that I have learned is known. A fix needs to happen before someone is seriously hurt.

60 Other Fuel System problem of the 2006 Honda Ridgeline

Failure Date: 11/01/2023

Please see the recall info here: 2006 Honda Ridgeline recall item affected: structuredate announced: 06/16/2022description of recall:Honda (american Honda motor CO. ) is recalling certain 2006-2014 Ridgeline vehicles that were sold, or ever registered in connecticut, delaware, illinois, indiana, iowa, kentucky, maine, maryland, massachusetts, michigan, minnesota, missouri, new hampshire, new jersey, new york, ohio, pennsylvania, rhode island, vermont, virginia, west virginia, washington d. C. , and wisconsin. An accumulation of road salt may cause the frame mounting surface, where the fuel tank mounting bands are attached, to corrode and possibly detach the fuel tank, which can result in a fuel leak. Action need to fix it:dealers will inspect and repair the rear frame, as necessary, free of charge. Depending on the extent of any corrosion damage, Honda may offer to repurchase the vehicle. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed August 1, 2022. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138. We took my son's vehicle to our local Honda dealership for the recall repair. They replaced 2 bolts that secure the fuel tank straps to the frame. Then sent us away with an invoice saying the vehicle is not safe to drive due to severely rusted fuel tank straps. I have emailed and called american Honda many times to ask why this is not covered by the recall and requesting a buy back. They have only responded by saying the recall repairs were made. They won't put anything in writing explaining why the severely corroded fuel tank straps that are a safety issue per their dealership are not related to the recall.

61 Other Fuel System problem of the 2017 Honda Ridgeline

Failure Date: 09/20/2023

Gas smell coming from under the hood and in the cabin on my 2017 Honda Ridgeline after it warms up. ( believe this could be a safety issue because of the gas fumes. ) I contacted Honda ( manufacturer ) and was told their was no recall for this issue. I took it to the dealer and they were unable to find any leaks but stated the could do a fuel system repair for $626. 00 and a direct inject service for $240. 00 truck had no codes or messages come up.

62 Other Fuel System problem of the 2009 Honda Ridgeline

Failure Date: 09/06/2023

After driving through lake alfred and getting on I-4 heading ne bound toward orlando, I noticed a very loud noise. I drove to the next exit a few miles down the road (the car seemed to handle fine), exit 55 at davenport FL. On the exit ramp, I began to smell burning rubber. After pulling over into the grass off of the exit ramp (to clear traffic) and coming to a complete stop - I smelt gasoline. I killed the ignition and looked under the vehicle (see attachments). I immediately called 911 to get a fire truck - as to my surprise - I had a fuel leak right next to dragging metal (how this didn't ignite is beyond me - but I am grateful it did not ignite!). First fire truck arrived about 10min after calling 911and they requested a second truck be rolled out also. I did not know what was going on. Under the guidance of the fire fighters - I called my insurance company to organize a tow truck. I assumed something had caused undercarriage damage (although I did not distinctly recall hitting anything). State farm organized to tow it to their authorized repair station - who then advise they will not be repairing the vehicle due to an open safety recall. State farm then had the vehicle towed to the nearest Honda dealer in winter haven to investigate. I never received a recall notice! I have had this vehicle since 2020 and it has been registered and tagged in both kentucky and florida. Even with this - I never received a recall notice!!! I called America Honda 9/6 at 9:49am & spoke with jessica. I inquired as to why they did not send me a recall notice. She stated that they only had me listed as an owner of a 2003 accord (which I purchased in 2023). For some reason they did not have my Honda Ridgeline showing me as the registered owner? I was very upset by this. I spoke with a david at winter haven Honda and he said that the dealership has sent the inspection photos to America Honda. I'm still awaiting resolution to this safety recall investigation.

63 Other Fuel System problem of the 2017 Honda Ridgeline

Failure Date: 07/03/2023

Unspent fuel (not exhaust) fumes entering the cabin from the front of the truck. Also noticeable from the outside when the truck is running. Fuel pump and evap were checked and there were no leaks. This does not happen if the "recirc" button is pushed, only when fresh air is entering the cabin through the ventilation system.

64 Other Fuel System problem of the 2008 Honda Ridgeline

Failure Date: 07/01/2023

Hello, I own a 2008 Honda Ridgeline. The vehicle’s rear frame is corrode after exposure to road salt. The fuel tank might detach from the truck and cause a fire. I checked open recalls and nothing is currently open. I’m afraid of driving the vehicle due to this issue. Thank you.

65 Other Fuel System problem of the 2019 Honda Ridgeline

Failure Date: 06/01/2023

Complaint of a chirp noise heard inside cabin or coming from the engine compartment. Sometimes it is heard very well, sometimes weakly. What influences this is not clear. The car was delivered to the dealer. After diagnostics, it was diagnosed that noise coming from high pressure fuel pump and rear engine mount.

66 Other Fuel System problem of the 2019 Honda Ridgeline

Failure Date: 02/23/2023

Vehicle emits a popping sound several minutes after startup and several minutes after shutdown. It appears the carbon/vapor canister or fuel tank is not properly allowing the pressure to properly disparate. Been happening since new; dealer says they are not aware of it being a known issue. I’m concerned this may cause a premature failure with the system and/or cause future, unnecessary repair costs or other issues.

67 Other Fuel System problem of the 2019 Honda Ridgeline

Failure Date: 02/18/2023

Engine light flashing on highway with reduced power.

68 Other Fuel System problem of the 2019 Honda Ridgeline

Failure Date: 02/08/2023

Vehicle constantly gets a p219a fault code (air fuel ratio out of balance) there is currently a recall for 2019 Ridgeline for same problem but only applies to specific VIN, had the fuel pump replaced recently under a recall due to impeller releasing debree into fuel system. Now injectors are clogged causing the same problem as listed in current recall, however Honda claims it only affect certian vinn, recall should be broaden, to cover all vinn that hs the exact fault.

69 Other Fuel System problem of the 2022 Honda Ridgeline

Failure Date: 02/05/2023

On two seperate occasions now my 2022 Ridgeline, which has less than 5000 miles, has lost considerable power when attempting to merge onto a highway and had the check engine light start flashing. This has required me to quickly pull over off the road as I was merging and unable to get my speed up. When this occurred, I had been driving on a highway for about an hour and was merging from the highway onto a larger interstate. The temperature outside was approximately 20 degrees f and my gas tank was above 3/4 tank that was purchased 2 days earlier.

70 Other Fuel System problem of the 2006 Honda Ridgeline

Failure Date: 02/01/2023

There is currently a rust recall for vehicles registered in states surrounding me, but north carolina, tennessee is not included. The recall is from damage by salt to rusting frame and rocker panels. Mine was originally registered in western nc and currently registered in north east TN. Both of these areas use salt on the roads and my Ridgeline is rusting in the rocker panels and underneath. This is a known issue but why would you allow Honda to not cover vehicles in neighboring states to those covered, I. E. Kentucky, virginia, west virginia. Hoping you will act on this since you know it's a problem with states using salt and this Honda is starting to rust rapidly with no warning.
