Having the vehicle stationary, I jacked it up to do some brake work in the front driver's side. The lower control arms (as well as various frame parts underneath) are extremely rusty. When lowering the vehicle using a floor jack (after doing the repair) the lower control broke. I feel very fortunate this happened in my yard on my property. This vehicle has only 84,000 miles.

The front lower control arms have rusted through completely and caused an accident with no injuries or major damage. Driving 25 miles per hour on small road when control arm failed and caused loss of control.

I had just gotten off interstate 76 at route 14 after driving the posted speed limit of 70 mph. I came down the ramp and as I applied the brakes, the front left wheel locked up. Thank god it didn't happen on interstate 76. The traffic was very heavy with semi's all around along with regular traffic. I come to find out the front left lower control arm collapsed allowing the tire to come back against the left fender wheel well. It pulled the car to the left and I slid off the ramp onto the berm after trying to steer hard to right. I had to have the car towed. I've owned the car since July 14, 2014. I come to find out the right arm has already been replaced. When I bought the car, it had 80,362 miles. In todays world, that is low miles. If this had happened when I was traveling at 70 mph, someone could have gotten killed. How many more are running around like this. The ball joints appear to be good but the control arm rusted out to the point of weakness and collapsed. The car doesn't even have 100,000 miles on it. They need to recall all of these cars and have the control arms inspected. You cannot control the car even at 10 mph.
Tl-the contact owns a 2003 Hyundai Accent. The contact stated that while driving at 55 mph there was an abnormal noise coming from the rear passenger's side of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for inspection. The contact was informed that the lower control arm had fractured due to excessive corrosion. The vehicle was repaired. The contact stated that the driver's side rear lower control arm fractured also, due to excessive corrosion. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 80,000. Ah.

Both control arms and drivers side of sub frame completely rotted out. There is a recall for the 2001-2003 elantra and tiberon, yet not the Accent? somebody isn't doing their job!!.

I was driving in a traffic at about 15mph and my lower control arm broke in the middle I was lucky that I wasn't in the highway or driving fast so you aren't looking for my complaint. After checking from the bottom even the sub-frame is almost broken,I guess it is a big manufacturing problem for safety I recommend for all owners of Hyundai to check there control arms and sub-frames. (note). I called Hyundai they told it isn't under warranty(10years or 60000milles), I told them it is about safety those parts should be lifetime warranty!!!!!!!!!!!!.

Front sub frame is severely corroded between drivers lower control arm and sub frame mount at radiator core support. Corrosion has created a hole on each side of the frame rail that will allow for passage of an object similar in size to a deck of cards. Passenger side is similarly corroded. Front sub frame replacement will be necessary in order maintain safe vehicle operation. The degree of front sub frame corrosion is not in line with the condition of the balance of the vehicle. Balance of the vehicle exhibits minimal corrosion.

Front control arm corroded and broke apart. Unable to steer. Towed to and confirmed by mechanic.
On may 23d while driving from my house in dutches county, NY on I 87 & I 287 pot holes in the road caused a noticeable “thunk” in the right rear of vehicle. In addition the handling of the car was compromised causing a swaying motion. I was told by the haundie dealership to absolutely not drive the car and was subsequently towed to dealer for repairs. Upon dealer inspection it was stated " pass side rear lower control arm is broken in half and all other control arms are extremely rusted".

Tl-the contact owns a 2001 Hyundai Accent. The contact stated that the vehicle experienced the same failures mentioned in NHTSA campaign id number: 09v125000 (suspension:front:control arm), including a perforated front lower control arm. The manufacturer was notified and stated that the VIN was not included in the recall. The vehicle had not been repaired. The failure and current mileages were 77,000. Sm.
Driver side wheel fell off while vehicle was in motion due to lower control arm separating in half. Loss of control of vehicle. Cv joint drive shaft, fender and rocker panel damaged. Pictures are available showing defect.
The contact owns a 2002 Hyundai Accent. The contact was driving 20 mph when the front passenger side lower control arm fractured. The vehicle was not drivable and was towed to the contacts home. The vehicle was neither inspected nor repaired for the failure. The failure and current mileage was 170,000.
The contact owns a 1996 Hyundai Accent. The contact stated that while the driver was traveling 65 mph, the lower control arm failed, the tire turned sideways into the fender and the vehicle dropped to the ground. The vehicle was towed his residence. The vehicle was not inspected or repaired. The contact called the manufacturer and referenced recall 02v341000 (suspension:front:control arm:lower arm) but was informed that the vehicle was not included. The current and failure mileages were approximately 120,000.

There was a recall on a 96 Hyundai Accent, received letter in mail about two years ago, took car to repair center at that time tech said everything was fine. On Jan 30,2006 was driving car and front control arm snapped pertaining to the recall that was done. Called Hyundai corp was just told to wait for paper work and investigation even though if I were going at a high speed the police officer said the car could have flipped and caused more damage. I hold Hyundai corp liable for not fixing the problem when they did the recall, it seem to me like they were more worried at offering me more services at fee then actually fixing the problem at the time I was a the shop. If they don't act within a timely manner to resolve this problem I believe the government should intervene.
