Hyundai Azera owners have reported 41 problems related to air bag (under the air bag category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Hyundai Azera based on all problems reported for the Azera.
The air bag light came on for the front passenger seat. I took it to grayson Hyundai & they tried to get part #88840-3l500-j9 which is the latch right front buckle assembly. I was told there was no part available because my car is a 2006 & manufactures are only required to carry parts for 10 years. I was also told if the air bags worried me to trade cars. I would think the seat belt buckle for a safety feature like the air bag would have to always be available. I have owned this car since 2006, it only has 26,600 miles on it. It has always been garage kept & literally looks like a new one except I have no air bags. Also, today I was told part #88840-3l500-j9 is on a national parts list, whatever that means. Surely this has happened to someone else. I just decided to report it.

On January 19,2023 my air bag light and check engine light came on in my Azera 2012 I took my car to the Hyundai dealership center in salisbury maryland they said after doing the diagnostic my car was going to need seat cushion for airbag light and for the door latch and will cost me with having a warranty 3265. 00 dollars . There is no recall on the car however the Hyundai motor company recalled my make and year as of may 22 2012 for occupant detection system may fail to properly differentiate whether the front passenger seat occupant is an adult or a child or a child restraint seat since my car was manufactured in may 14 of 2012 it does not fit in that recall however, what if my car isn’t recalled they say it could be recalled later my concern is I would like it to be covered under that recall for my car as of may 22, 2012 I feel that my car was not built up in those airbags in the standard that should be since my car was manufactured seven days before the actual recall date I would like Hyundai motor company to take care of all expenses for the the safety, and the fixing of the seat cushion as well as the door latch I feel that there is a safety issue while driving with the light going on and off and the dashboard blinking specially without the passenger side door latch and seat not working right, it wont detect a problem, or possibly the airbag could come out , it has been confirmed by the dealership pohanka Hyundai of salisbury , maryland, that the components were inspected and they were no insurance or police. Just a code popped up in the car dash in the car dashboard computer. I would ask that you guys would look into this and see that the manufacture independently conducts a safety recall on this and pays all costs of the safety recall and please fix it I can be contacted at 757-894-8324. Again thank you .
Air bag light came on while driving. After getting it checked, the technician stated that the air bag module went out and was erased. A new module would need to be ordered and the old one replaced. Repair was not done as the cost was expensive and I don't believe that I should pay for something that is a safety equipment issue, this should be under a lifetime warranty. Currently driving the vehicle without working air bags. Has not been reported to the manufacturer. Light first appeared in February of 2022.

The contact owns a 2006 Hyundai Azera. The contact stated that the air bag warning light had illuminated and remained illuminated on the instrument panel for a year. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and diagnosed but no cause for the failure was found. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 307,000.
The contact owns a 2006 Hyundai Azera. The contact stated that on numerous occasions, the air bag warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer multiple times. The contact was then referred by the dealer to a different dealer where it was diagnosed and produced code: b1489 b1495. The contact then stated that the pod reset was performed, and the ecu was not responding however, the contact stated that she was not informed of which part needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact indicated the NHTSA campaign number: 10v007000 (air bags, seat belts). The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 83,000.
Vehicle airbag light came on by itself while driving. Diagnosis shows that the module needs to be replaced. Currently the vehicle does not have working airbags. It has been diagnosed by dealer but not manufacturer. Car is currently at the dealer service shop.
While driving, the steering became suddenly loose and nearly took me off the road. I was able to get the vehicle the short distance home, but the steering wheel now feels broken and detached. There was no warning. The passenger airbag light stays on all the time. I have found that both issues and parts are actually covered in other years, but not mine, which I have confirmed with a local dealer. With only 68800 miles, these should both be fully covered manufacturer repair since they are safety-related and there are numerous similar reports. There was no "crash" or "injury" per the questions below, but there should have been, and there was not, only because I was able to regain just enough control of the car to avoid a crash. If someone else was driving, it would most certainly have been a crash with injuries, possibly involving other vehicles if I didn't happen to be close to home and the only car around at the time. Based on my experience so far, I don't think I will be owning or buying any Hyundai products any time soon and will likely sell this one if I can get it repaired. It is sitting in my garage useless right now. I have now submitted a contact request to Hyundaiusa. Com asking for them to cover these repairs, and will update with their response.

My air bag light is on & won't go off. It's been on for about a year. But my factory warranty have expired. I can't afford a new warranty . What shall I do ?.
When driving at 40 mph and up the steering wheel shakes and you can hear a clicking sound when turning the wheel.
The air bags are not connected to seat belts. Air bags stays on. #2 brake pedal is on the spongy side. Hyundai dealer couldn't find the problem. The mechanic told me fluid was leaking everywhere. I told him there are no leaks in the braking system cause I checked the master system myself ialso had the brakes bieed=ok.

My srs light is on so I took my car to the dealer to find out why. I was told and is on my paperwork that vehicle has code associated with clockspring and is out of spec. Car was stationery and when I drove it to work one morning the light was on. It's not something I caused and really don't seam like a normal issue.
I purchased a 2012 hyuandai Azera in July 2012, the car has only 30,000 miles the vehicle has been garage kept and well maintained. Two week ago I noticed the dash was splitting around the area where the air bag is located (passenger side). Took the car to route 60 Hyundai, service manager sad they wouldn't cover under extended warranty, however it would cost $2,600. 00 to repair, the part is $1,600. 00 labor is $1,000. 00. I don't have that kind of money. This defect was a problem in the 2008 model of Azera, it is a design flaw and should be covered. What if this airbag deploys while I'm driving? there is a reason this area is weak and splitting around the airbag poor design or workmanship. . . . .
Tl- the contact owns a 2013 Hyundai Azera. The contact stated that while stationary the vehicle was rear ended by a second vehicle and pushed into the rear of the vehicle ahead. During the incident the front end was severely damaged and the vehicle was destroyed but no air bags were deployed. The driver sustained a left knee, left arm and shoulder and facial injuries. The front passenger sustained a chest and right arm injuries. The vehicle was towed away. A police report was taken at the scene. The cause of the failure was not determined. The local dealer and manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 140,000. Jft.
I took my 2006 Azera to the dealership when I received a recall notice for a possible srs malfunction (10v007000). After a year or so the srs light came on intermittently but was mostly off. Starting this week (3/15/2019) the srs light has stayed on and won't go off. Based on what I have read, this is a common problem for Azera owners. I believe a second recall is necessary since the first one did not solve the problem for very long.
My wife ran of the highway at about 50mph traveled a short distance in the ditch and struck the side of a driveway where it joined the road, flew over the driveway landing on the other side causing a compression fracture of 2 vertebrae and although the Azera was a total loss with the front suspension pushed back 8" and the roof buckled, none of the airbags were inflated. I can help but think that her injuries would have been less if these had worked. The accident took place at hwyff and county road 170 joplin mo.
I purchased my Hyundai Azera 2008n used 2 years ago and have had minor issues with it. The heated seats cannot be turned off, the air bags do not work on the passenger side, brakes had a recall, and now gaskets are blown on the engine. I have spoke with the dealership and because its a whole new crew, the old crew was let go, they do not want to help with getting another car for me. Tony, the salesperson,. Did try by passing me on to another dealership and they cannot help me. My car needs to be paid down some before any dealership will touch it.
Vehicle drifts left and right at interstate highway speeds, requiring constant attention and correction by the driver, which is distracting and contributes to driver fatigue. Unable to track smoothly around curves. Similar to alternating cross winds, even when there are none. Situation very aggravating in actual cross winds. Police officer pulled me over and said he would be justified in issuing a ticket for "weaving". Dealer technician drove the car and acknowledged that this is a negative characteristic of electrical steering and nothing to be done for it.
Airbag did not deplore until after the car fully stopped but the seat belt on the drivers side tighten continuously until I got a bleed injury inside my right breast the righting stopped only after I was abke to release it then afterwards the airbag deplored only in the drivers side no other airbags came out during this accident.
Been on about month.
Dashboard has outline airbag crack on passenger side. Driver seat moves forward, tilts forward, moves back while driving.

Purchase 2008 Hyundai Azera ltd. On Dec. 29, 2008. Car has 45000 miles and has always been garaged under roof. Dash board developed a rectangular crack on top of the passenger air bag. Complained to Hyundai through braman motors and claim denied for being out of warrantee. I am afraid that the air bag malfunction and explode.
Tl- the contact owns a 2006 Hyundai Azera. The contact stated that while driving at 45 mph, when an SUV pulling a trailer attempted to make a u-turn on a one way, causing another vehicle to strike the trailer and causing the contact to be struck by the trailer. The contact stated that the air bags deployed for the driver, but the failed to deploy on the passenger side. A police report was filed for the accident. The contact sustained injuries to the right hand from the thumb to the index finger where emergency surgery was performed. The contact also stated that one of the occupants of the other vehicles perished as a result of the accident. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it was deemed totaled. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown. Wh.
My mother pulled in my driveway to park. The car made a weird sound and then accelerated at a quick speed. She pressed on the brakes and had skid marks to prove it, but the car would not stop. She ran into the next door neighbor's brick house. This happened on an easter Sunday. My sister was in the front seat. My mother had abrasions from the seat belt and severe bruises to the chest from the air bag. My sister had bruising to her ribs and her leg was cut, which resulted in 5 stitches.
I just bought this car used with 49k on the odo and the other day the passenger airbag off light remained on and like other instances will not reset to the on position. I have not yet taken the car to the dealer, but that is my next step. This is a known problem, but yet I see no recall from Hyundai for such a serious safety condition. That is the reason for my complaint.
Driver's dash airbag warning lamp illuminates sporadically. Front passenger seat "airbag disabled" warning lamp illuminates sporadically whether seat is occupied or not. Front passenger seat "seat belt unlatched" warning lamp illuminates sporadically whether seat is occupied or not and/or whether seat belt is latched or not.
Failure of passenger side front seat belt assemble effecting airbags.
The "air bag" light remains on the driver's side dashboard. The Hyundai dealer says there is not a recall for this specific car for that problem. The repair station has told me twice that there is a recall in their system when they pull up the information. Since the dealer will not take ownership - it is costing us $463 to get fixed so the car will pass inspection.
Dashboard: the molded breakaway seam covering the front seat passenger air bag mounted in the dashboard has split along the breakaway seam. Liquids and dirt can enter. Bag may not function in an accident. Purchased new, garaged. Dealer will not replace.
This accident happened in waco, texas, mclennan county. Chevrolet pickup truck was traveling west on fm 308 on the inside lane. Azera was traveling north on fm 933 on the outside lane. The driver of the Chevrolet pickup truck was not wearing his corrective lenses according to his dl restriction (restriction a) and disregarded a stop sign and flashing red light at the intersection. Due to this, the Chevrolet pickup truck struck the Azera fd to rbq. This collision spun the Azera clockwise. The Azera left the roadway to the east and went into a ditch and received fd damage. The Azera came to rest facing south in the ditch. The Chevrolet pickup truck came to rest facing north on fm 933 on the inside lane. All air bags deployed in the Azera except the drivers seat and drivers side curtain. Driver received blunt force damage to his left shoulder. Surgery was preformed on March 12, 2014. Azera was towed to "big boys wrecker service, 415 s. Robinson dr. , waco, texas 76706".
The contact owns a 2007 Hyundai Azera. The contact stated that the air bag warning lamp illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 35,000.
I have a crack, out lining the front airbag on the passenger side dash . It is getting bigger. My dealer says that it won't employ on use, but I don't feel safe. They said that to fix it right it will need to have a new airbag put in because they would have to disengage the one that is in there. That will cost us between $600. 00 and $700. 00. I feel that, this is a safety issued and should be the manufacturer responsibility . I have gotten on line and have see several other people who have had this problem. Maybe there should be a recall on this matter. I do not have this kind of money to get this repaired. Could you grantee me that it is safe to drive this was.
Passenger airbag mat is defective according to the dealership and should be replaced at a cost of $3000. 00+ as it is not covered under warranty.
The air bag dash light remains on.
