Had my 2012 Hyundai Azera in for PA state inspection an was advised that the steering coupler was going bad I have around 35000 miles on this car. Hyundai has a recall on other model cars of this year but not the Azera for the same problem steering part.

Steering has developed delay before engaging turning mechanism. Hyundai has issued a safety recall for the same steering problem for certain elantras and sonatas. The same safety issue remains for the 2012 Azera. It is my opinion that Hyundai should recall and repair Azeras as well.
The coupling is broken and I don't even have 60,000 miles on the vehicle. The steering rattles and shakes while driving at any speed and is dangerous if not fixed. Hyundai has recalled other coupling systems but none on the Azera. I have owned cars with over 100,000 miles and have never experienced this error.

I have been driving for 55 years, so I have a pretty good handle on "normal" as it pertains to driving. For the last couple of years I have noticed that the steering on my car "sticks" as I travel on nearly straight roads. It does not seem to pose a safety risk, but is very annoying as it causes the driver to over correct steering when it breaks free of the "sticking". This is not an occasional event, but a continuous, ongoing one. It is not noticeable when making turns. I have never had this problem analyzed due to the dealership costs.

The steering wheel makes a loud "thunk" when turned side to side, at a stop. Seems loose ??.
The steering wheel "clanks" when moving side to side while setting still. Upon research, and talking to the service dept. At my Hyundai dealer, it's the "steering coupler". I was told that the other Hyundai models with the same problem were under a "recall", but not the Azeras??.
The streeing wheel started clicking and or sticking a few months ago while turning. The clicking/sticking has progressively gotten worse and the steering wheel feels loose and unsecured. When driving on uneven roads the steering wheel rattles loudly and shakes constantly. I feel as I do not have any control of my vehicle at times and have to adjust contstantly when turning or driving over uneven roads.
Steering whell makes clunk sound when turned to left and right. Also makes same sounds when going over bumps on the road. Similar to what others are describing. 45,000miles.

Driving 2006 Hyundai azetra on I-95 on Feb 10, 2018 @10:30 pm all dash lights beginning with abs brakes went ballistic and car began to buck like a bronco, then began to drive car 2 to 3 lanes on right lane to exit in deerfield at sw 10th st on an incline ramp in which brakes were failing and steering wheel not working to maneuver a turn. Had to forcefully turn steering wheel hard to right to avoid causing car to crash or harming others on road (which caused extreme discomfort on shoulder, elbow, wrist and hand today) and engine turned off which car coasted downhill and made first right turn coasted a few feet and car stopped. When car was enabled onto flat bed by tow CO, noticed red fluid on ground which could be transmission or gasoline??? everything happened so quickly; very scared for our lives. Didn't sleep well and uneasy today I also notified Hyundai today @1-800-633-5151 and gave a report in which a case worker will notify us in 3 to 5 business days, confirmation # 11007142.

In early 2017, Hyundai issued the following announcement. . . ��Hyundai motor America is revising the warranty coverage for the rubber coupling in the motor driven power steering (mdps) assembly on 2007-2015 elantra sedans, 2009-2012 elantra touring models, 2011-2014 sonata sedans, and 2011-2015 hybrid sonata sedans to 10 years from the date of original delivery or the date of first use, or 100,000 miles, whichever occurs first. � why isn't the steering coupler on the 2012 Hyundai Azera covered under the same warranty that Hyundai extended to the 2007 � 2015 elantra sedans, 2009 � 2012 elantra touring models, 2011 � 2014 sonata sedans and 2011 � 2015 hybrid sonata sedans? this exact component was utilized in similar year Azeras, yet Hyundai will not honor the warranty extension or reimburse me for the $ 325. 00 I spent to have this repair made.
This 2012 Azera only has 8,700 miles. Moving the steering wheel left or right produces a clicking sound. This is a known issue of a worn rubber flex coupling in the steering motor. Hyundai pays for replacing the part on sonata and elantra models even after the standard five year warranty. The Azera uses the exact same part number (563152k000fff) but they will not pay for repair after the 5 year warranty. This is probably because they only sold low numbers of Azera models which would of course mean lower numbers of complaints compared to the high volume models. This is obviously a steering safety issue ot huyndai would not pay for repairs on any model out of warranty. My local dealer quoted $270 (florida, zip code 33331) to replace the flex coupler. I believe Hyundai should pay for the repair. I am fearful that I will lose steering control as the rubber coupling arms break apart further.
Steering wheel makes clicking sound upon turning it either left or right, even when car is in park just turning the wheel slightly and this also happens while driving at normal speed. When driving highway speed, the steering wheel begins to shake upon the slightest movement of it. I have checked to see if there were any recall notices, but have found none despite similar complaints on this make and model.
Reporting another power steering motor coupling issue just like several others listed for the Azera. My car has the same clanking sounds when turning left or right and intermittent vibrations at highway speeds that just comes and goes for no apparent reason. I do not understand how the same part is not a recall issue for every model that has the defective part. When a defective part is identified, every model with that part should be eligible for warranty recall repair / replacement of the part and not just the elantra and sonata.

I confirmed my car have mdps steering moter coupling issue symptom. Click sound happen when steer wheel rotate left and right. This case have huge recall at sonata before. Azera from 2011-14 also have same problem base on information from korea recall site. My car also have same safety issue. I can't drive car due to potential safety risk which lock steering by broken coupling. I send a mail to beaverton Hyundai about this and try to get recall service but they didn't reply my mail.
Vehicle drifts left and right at interstate highway speeds, requiring constant attention and correction by the driver, which is distracting and contributes to driver fatigue. Unable to track smoothly around curves. Similar to alternating cross winds, even when there are none. Situation very aggravating in actual cross winds. Police officer pulled me over and said he would be justified in issuing a ticket for "weaving". Dealer technician drove the car and acknowledged that this is a negative characteristic of electrical steering and nothing to be done for it.
On 03/02/16 - I was driving on george 400 expressway and I slowed down to take an exit and without any warning my vehicle completely lost power; the steering wheel became stiff and the dashboard lights came on. I had to roll to the shoulder and turn my flashers on. I put the vehicle in neutral and it started back up. I was able to drive to a safe location. This also occurred approximately a year ago while I was driving on a freeway (I-285). I took it to the Hyundai dealership and they could not find anything explanation as to why it lost power. This concerns me because I drive a lot on the freeway and to be driving 55-70 mph and to lose power for no reason is quite frightening. I love my vehicle, but this is very dangerous. It could easily occur when my daughter, a less experienced driver, is driving the vehicle. Please advise what is the cause of this and how can it be rectified? note that the first time this occurred, I had a lot less miles on my vehicle.

My Hyundai Azera has been diagnosed with a malfunction of a motor driven steering coupling , after further research online I have noticed that there are multiple complaints and issue with this same part on different model vehicle. There are some vehicle models that have been recalled for this particular part but my vehicle is not on the list. I feel that it should be Hyundai responsibility to recall all vehicles for the same issue. . .
I was driving up to a busy intersection where there was a red light. I was just starting to brake when my steering got stiff and my car wasn't following the curve of the street. I looked at the dash and all my lights were on. My car had turned off. I didn't know if I was too low on gas but the gas light wasn't on. I put the car in neutral and turned the ignition, which started right back up. I pulled into the gas station and filled up the tank. I didn't have another issue until today, 9-9-15, when I was driving down a slight hill going about 40 getting ready to get into the turn lane when again the steering got stiff and I looked down and realized all my lights on the dash were on. I had half a tank of gas at the time. . . Both times I was able to put it in neutral to restart it without a problem. Both times have been on busy streets with my children in the car. . . . This is an issue!! I called the dealership where I bought it last year and since they were close to closing ended up not helping me. I will call them again tomorrow to find out what the heck is going on. . . .
Car shifted erratically and shut down multiple times while at speeds up to 45 mph with loss of power assist for brakes and steering, the last time while rounding a curve and braking for a stop sign. When restarted, the indicator for the shift position was completely blank (reappeared on a second shutdown/restart. Dealer finally located a trouble code (no check engine light) which indicated a failing transmission oil temperature/shift position sensor located on the automatic transmission. Dealer refused to submit to Hyundai in spite of the fact car was still under drive train warranty and safety considerations of such a failure. This obviously covers up such failures from NHTSA oversight. Problem has not reoccurred since sensor was replaced. Repair invoice from the dealer is available upon request.

Steering "wander". The vehicle does not drive straight without correction by driver. Steering does not "self-center/return to center". Most vehicles have a center spot on their steering gear that allows the vehicle to comfortably steer in a straight line, especially when returning from a lane change ot turn. Does not drive straight. As an overall, the vehicle requires constant correction by the driver to keep the vehicle going in a straight line.

The vehicle wanders at highway speeds. It is not suitable for highway driving as it is very fatiguing to drive any distance on the highway. I am constantly fighting with the steering to stay in my lane. Most of my driving is on the highway and this problem is very much a safety concern.
Tl-the contact owns a 2014 Hyundai Azera. The contact stated while driving approximately 55 mph, the steering wheel began to veer from left to right causing the contact to lose control of the vehicle. The failure recurred multiple times. The vehicle was taken to a dealer for diagnostic testing. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The VIN was unavailable. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 50. Pam.
While traverling ~ 45 mph and slowing approaching a curve and stop sign, engine shutdown completely losing power assist for steering and brakes plus engine power. Steered car without power assist and applied un-powered assisted brakes to stop short of stop sign. Car restarted without difficulty. This was a second occurance.
On three seperate occasions, the eps light would light up and the steering would get extremely difficult, almost to the point of locking up. After the third incident on Jan. 22nd, my wife refused to drive the car. Our local dealer said there were no other reports or bulletins concerning this type of problem. After a diagnostics check, it was determined that there had been an issue and that a new power steering unit would be installed.
While driving on us 95 at night my engine stopped runing. I was traving at 65 mph. At the time. The car was towed and later inspected. The inspection revealed that alternator had failed because oil had leaked from the valve cover gaskets directly onto the alternator which caused it to fail. This failure also affected the power steering & my lights as well . I was fortunate that my car was not struck as the traffic was heavy. .
2012 Hyundai Azera. Consumer writes in regards to the vehicle pulling to the right while driving. The consumer stated the vehicle would also pull to the right, while in cruise control mode. Also, the steering wheel was not centered, it was tilted to the left, as there was also a slight pull to the left.
The alignment has been bad on this car since I bought the car. My tires wore out at 28000. The outer edge of the tires are bold when I first took it in they blamed the roads. The car has always pulled to the right. I have to keep pressure on the steering wheel at all time to keep the car going straight. I took the car in after my tires wore out and they charged me $99 for an alignment, which I was happy to pay if they could fix it. When I got the car back, I had to hold the steering wheel off center to keep the car straight. I took the car back, they made a small adjustment but are now blaming the road again. Then they said there was a scratch on my wheel which I recently got and they blamed the alignment issue on that. That doesn't explain the alignment issue for the first 27000 miles. I like Hyundai. I have a santa fe and I used to own another one but I have a feeling I am going to be selling my 2012 Azera in the very near future.

The vehicle was taken to a dealer where they advised him that they would not be able to perform realignment due to how the vehicle was set at the factory. The vehicle was not repaired.
