As I pulled my 8 month old Hyundai Azera out of a parking lot, the cast iron housing holding the upper end of the passenger side tie rod failed, causing the tie rod to fall to the ground. The lower end was still in place but the upper end was on the ground, bolt and carter pin intact . This caused the right front wheel to become disengaged from the steering mechanism, causing the car to hit a parked car. Hyundai north America and the local dealership , after initially admitting this was product failure, now refuse to repair either the body damage or the tie rod which should be covered by warranty at the least. They insist our insurance company should pay for their product failure, which will cause our rates to increase.
