Automatic Transmission Gear Indicator problems of the 1997 Hyundai Elantra

Two problems related to automatic transmission gear indicator have been reported for the 1997 Hyundai Elantra. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Automatic Transmission Gear Indicator problem

Consumer has experienced transmission failure two or more times. Problem occurs at any speed between 10-35mph. First time dealer was able to duplicate the problem, and replaced severed bolts . The transmission will shift out of gear on a weekly basis.

2 Automatic Transmission Gear Indicator problem

Automatic transmission goes into low gear and gets stuck there periodically. Transmission also slips periodically.
