Transmission Gear Slipping problems of the 1997 Hyundai Elantra

Four problems related to transmission gear slipping have been reported for the 1997 Hyundai Elantra. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Transmission Gear Slipping problem

Failure Date: 05/06/1998

Transmission slips when changing gears. Was replaced by dealer. Problem reappeared. Took vehicle back & a pin had gone bad in new transmission. Also ignition coil went out, vehicle running sluggish. Been to dealership 5-6 times for the problem.

2 Transmission Gear Slipping problem

Failure Date: 05/05/1998

Consumer states transmission jerks on deceleration/acceleration from stops and then down shifts roughly. Dealer found the transmission starts slipping and banging into gear. Replaced transmission with remanufactured transmission and flush cooler and hook up scanner. Intermittently after driving, the transmission won't move vehicle when attempting to move off from a stop. Dealer replaced pulse generators.

3 Transmission Gear Slipping problem

Failure Date: 08/08/1997

Transmission slips .

4 Transmission Gear Slipping problem

Transmission has been overfilled with transmission fluid , causing the transmission to slip. Owner has had the orginal transmission replaced. Owner is currently going through arbitration.
