1 Steering Failed problem

Failure Date: 09/11/2019

It is an outrage that Hyundai does not respond to this issue and that NHTSA is letting them get away with it. There is a small plastic item which sells for about $6 on amazon which is failing on a huge number of Hyundai vehicles. I am referring to the steering coupler. It is causing a clicking when turning the steering wheel whether the vehicle is moving or not. If not addressed in a timely manner, apparently this can lead to steering failure. I believe kia waived the 100,000 mile limitation on the replacement of this item, Hyundai refuses to do so. It is labor intensive, requiring the removal of the steering system and dealers charge hundreds of dollars to do the job. My local dealership's service department agreed that since this part's failure is so common, NHTSA ought to come in and force Hyundai to fix it in all their vehicles, even if they have over 100,000 miles on them.

2 Steering Failed problem

Failure Date: 09/17/2018

Tl the contact owns a 2010 Hyundai Elantra. The contact stated that the electric power steering warning indicator illuminated. In addition, the steering assist failed and caused the steering wheel to seize when turned in either direction. The dealer (murfreesboro Hyundai, 2203 NW broad st, murfreesboro, TN 37129, 1-615-713-1532) was notified, but the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The vehicle was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 15v100000 (steering) although the failure was identical. The manufacturer was notified. The failure mileage was not available.

3 Steering Failed problem

Failure Date: 08/17/2018

Tl the contact owns a 2010 Hyundai Elantra. The contact stated that the vehicle was repaired per NHTSA campaign number: 15v100000 (steering). While driving at unknown speeds and making turns, the steering wheel pulled to the center. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer (specks Hyundai of tri cities, 002 n 28th Ave, pasco, wa 99301, (509) 542-0234) where it was diagnosed that the steering shaft needed to be adjusted, the steering module needed to be reflashed, and the steering column needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and did not assist. The contact stated that there was no steering failure prior to the recall repair. The failure mileage was 95,000.

4 Steering Failed problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2017

Tl the contact owns a 2010 Hyundai Elantra. The contact stated that the coupling on the steering failed, which caused the steering wheel to make a clicking noise every time it was turned. The dealer (eddie tourelle's northpark Hyundai, 953 us-190, covington, la 70433) stated that the vehicle was not included in any open recalls. The manufacturer was notified. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was 130,000.

5 Steering Failed problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2017

The steering wheel makes clicking sounds as it turns, sounds as if something is breaking or already broken inside. I looked up this issue and it appears to be fairly common in many Hyundai vehicles. It is,an expensive repair. I believe Hyundai should cover the cost of repair but apparently based on complaints I've read, they do not. It also appears that this can lead to steering failure if I'm understanding what has been written about this. I can't afford to pay for this repair so I'm hoping it will eventually be a recall. This clicking takes places continually as I drive and turn the steering wheel. I have about 53,000 miles on my car.

6 Steering Failed problem

Failure Date: 11/03/2012

I experienced a crash with this vehicle when the steering failed (as indicated in the recall notice NHTSA code 15v100000). I communicated this failure to Hyundai at the time this occurred but they denied that there was any issue with the steering. Hyundai has subsequently acknowledged this problem with a formal recall notice. Their failure to address this when notified of this problem is an example of product negligence.
