1 Air Bag Not Deploy problem

Failure Date: 10/12/2020

On Monday when I started my car I realized my airbag light on my dashboard was on alerting me that my airbags are deactivated and won't deploy. My car has never been in an accident and the airbags have never deployed. It is unsettling that I have to drive around without airbags because I can not afford to pay over 100$ to fix the problem and there is no recall even though my car is not the first Hyundai to have this problem. This is a safety issue.

2 Air Bag Not Deploy problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2020

The airbag light on the dashboard of my car goes on and off as I'm driving or when the car is not in motion. Apparently this is due to the clock spring needing to be replaced. Several Hyundais have had this problem so Hyundai extended its warranty for certain models. The 2013 Elantra sedan is covered under this warranty, however, they failed to include the gt model. The gt model has the exact same part with the exact same issues, therefore it should be included under the warranty. This is a terrible safety issue since my airbags will not deploy if I get into a collision.

3 Air Bag Not Deploy problem

Failure Date: 03/31/2020

Tl the contact owns a 2013 Hyundai Elantra. The contact stated that while driving at 55 mph, she depressed the brake pedal however, the brakes failed to engage with an abnormal noise being heard. The contact stated that she pumped the brake pedal several times however, the vehicle travelled into a ditch, hit a fence and crashed into a metal post. The contact stated that the air bags failed to deploy as the front of the vehicle was damaged. The contact stated that no injuries were sustained and a police report was filed. The contact also stated while driving over a speed bumper an abnormal noise was heard when the brake pedal was depressed. The contact mentioned that the vehicle was previously serviced under three recalls. The vehicle was towed to the contact's residence. The dealer and manufacturer had not been contacted. The failure mileage was 89,000.

4 Air Bag Not Deploy problem

Failure Date: 11/24/2019

On engine start up, the air bag warning light was activated indicating failure with either the airbag or supplement restraint system. Dealer diagnostics indicated the "clockspring" part had failed. This part has failed often enough that Hyundai has extended warranty on "some models of 2011-2014" Elantra, but not the model of my car even though it is the same part that is on all 2011-2014 Elantra models. Should it fail while the vehicle is moving, then the driver's airbag may not deploy during an accident or the supplement restraint system may not work. The "clockspring" part connects to the speed control system.

5 Air Bag Not Deploy problem

Failure Date: 09/19/2019

I was rear ended at a high speed and pushed into the car in front of me. The air bag did not deploy, causing me to hit the steering wheel and break my nose.

6 Air Bag Not Deploy problem

Failure Date: 09/14/2019

Tl-the contact owns a 2013 Hyundai Elantra. The contact stated that while driving another vehicle ran the contact off the road and the vehicle ran into a concrete barrier and completely flipped over. The front windshield was completely smashed in toward the driver and passenger. A police report was filed. The insurance company was contacted and the manufacturer was contacted. There were no recalls but the air bag indicator light was illuminating and was fixed for an air bag recall back on January 9, 2018 before the accident. The dealer (carmax) was also notified. The vehicle was totaled and towed to a scrap yard by the police. The failure mileage was 96,119. Tf.

7 Air Bag Not Deploy problem

Failure Date: 08/09/2019

The clock spring contact assembly for the driver's air bag supplemental restraint system (srs) has become damaged through usage over time. The driver's air bag electrical circuit experiences a high resistance condition, causing the driver's air bag to not deploy. The clock spring develops high resistance, in the event of a crash, the drivers air bag will not deploy and will not be able to properly protect the driver, increasing the risk of injuries. Hyundai has issued a recall/TSB for the 2013 Hyundai Elantra sedan, but not the hatchback which utilizes the exact same part. The repair cost is almost $500 at the dealer and because the repair involves removing the airbag and removing the steering wheel it poses a safety risk for shade tree mechanics. The attached TSB should also apply to the Elantra hatchback as well,.

9 Air Bag Not Deploy problem

Failure Date: 07/28/2019

Airbag srs light appeared on dash panel without reason when the vehicle was started in a parked position and has stayed illuminated since first appearing. The light has been present for several months now. Recent diagnostics reported airbag fault (code b134600 driver airbag resistance too high stage #1). Service facility deemed fault is secondary to defective clock spring. The defect causes the airbag system to fail and airbags will not deploy in the event of an accident because of this fault.

10 Air Bag Not Deploy problem

Failure Date: 04/02/2019

My airbag light came on and I called the dealership. They said that this has been happening a lot with Hyundai models and said it was likely due to a "clock spring" and that it would cost me $100 just to evaluate, and then possibly another $350 to fix. The guy I talked to said that my airbag would not deploy until it was fixed. This seems like a serious safety issue that appears to be fairly common.

Failure Date: 07/11/2017

The airbag warning light came on on my dashboard a few days ago and has been on ever since. I have read on several online forums how several other people have been having the same issue and how this means that the airbag will not deploy during a collision. This is a serious safety issue and the dealerships should be charging over $250 to correct this defect. I have not yet been in an accident, but I don't want to wait until then for someone to take action. Thank you.

17 Air Bag Not Deploy problem

Failure Date: 04/14/2017

On April 14th 2017 I got into a car accident where I ended up on my drivers side in a ditch and my side impact airbags never deployed. We have been in constant contact with Hyundai since than with no resolution. We have before the car got fixed and after the car got fixed pictures of the airbags and you can clearly see where someone had tampered with them. My car has been sitting in our driveway since may 4th not being driven because we don't feel safe driving it not knowing if the airbags are going to work if we need them too and we were told to not use it by Hyundai until someone from Hyundai could come and inspect the car, which they never did. I also have all the phone calls we have ever made to Hyundai written down including times, dates, who we talked to and what we talked about, all the emails sent back and forth with Hyundai we also have printed. It has gotten to a pint now that we actually got the bbb and the north carolina state attorney general involved. I have included the pictures my husband took of the drivers side and passenger side airbags.

18 Air Bag Not Deploy problem

Failure Date: 04/14/2017

On April 14th 2017 my wife was involved in a car accident where she hydroplaned off of an onramp at 60-65mph as she was getting on the highway and rolled her 2013 Hyundai Elantra. The side impact and side curtain airbags never deployed. At the time of the accident she was a month and a half pregnant. I her husband called Hyundai while at the hospital. I let them know that "none" of the airbags deployed and they said that they would start a case. I also let the company know where the car was being sent which was a Hyundai dealership in town and asked if they would check the airbags which "never happened". The car was repaired and we picked up the car on may 4th 2017. We have been in constant contact with Hyundai about the airbag situation and we feel that they never really took it seriously. My wife's car has been sitting in our driveway since may 4th, 2017 not being driven due to (a) my wife being afraid of the car and not feeling safe inside. (b) not knowing about the airbags and the "ongoing investigation". Fast forward to today September 20th, 2017 I received an email from Hyundai saying that due to them not being able to check the car and airbags out "post-accident they were unable to find any faults in the airbags, and then they go no to say that the Elantra's side curtain airbags are not supposed to deploy in a rollover accident. My wife was traveling at between 60 and 65 mph when she lost control of her Elantra and I can not understand why they (a) did not check the airbags when the car was at a certified dealer/repair shop and (b) why they are telling us that the side curtain airbags were not supposed to deploy in a rollover. From the research that I have done in any rollover the side impact and side curtain airbags are supposed to deploy in a rollover. I do have picture and emails fro the accident and emails from Hyundai.
