general problems of the 2013 Hyundai Elantra - part 2

The car keeps stalling at a stop light in the middle of a very busy road. Eps, battery, oil, check engine light comes on. I have to turn the car off, and then back on. Sometimes it take it a few times before it will finally start. Everyone keeps flying up on me honking their horn, and I finally got pulled over to a parking lot. My safety and others are at risk while driving this car, and also my anxiety is through the roof because I never know when it will cut off or if it will even crank up after. The car had to be towed to the shop to be checked out in the next few days, because check engine light came on and wouldn’t go off this time. I really hope this situation gets resolved, because I’m tired of having a fear of wether or not I’ll make it to work. Or back home.

Two issues, that are, at times related: * first, intermittent airbag dash warning light enabled; comes and goes, no obvious trigger (bumps, turns, etc. ). This has been occurring for two weeks. // * second, if I stop and turn off the car while the airbag light is lit, the vehicle will remain in accessory mode, with radio and climate control still on, and the dash display says to shift the car to park (it is in park) and that the key is not in the vehicle, and when I attempt to lock the car with either key fob or door lock control, it will not lock. This has been occurring for nearly a week, first on 2/1/22 as I was attending my father's funeral. I have seen that there was a recall for the airbag issue for same year/make/model, but my car does not appear to be one of those included in the recall (searched by VIN). However, the second issue is the most critical, as I am prevented from securing the vehicle if this intermittent issue occurs. I have not taken vehicle to mechanic or dealer.

Airbag light comes on a few minutes after I start driving. I had my local Hyundai dealership look into and they said they didn't get any diagnostic codes and were unable to replicate the issue when test driving. The problem happens every time I drive and the fact that the airbag light is on is very worrisome and from researching this issue it seems it's rather common.

Confirmed the customer's complaint &found the engine didn't start. Inspected the ignition system & the air intake system, but found no concerns. Inspected the engine coolant level & condition & found the engine coolant level was fair. Filled the engine coolant to the proper operating level & continued diagnosing the vehicle. Connected an engine coolant pressure tester to the radiator & pressurized the engine cooling system to check for leaks. Inspected the engine cooling system & didn't find a leak. Removed the spark plugs for inspection & found the spark plugs were contaminated but ok. Perform inspections of the engine compression & found compression was low. Under 60psi. Prop the wiring to the starter & found signal was present & the starter cranks but the engine would not turn over. These results verified that some internal components in the engine have failed. *note: found ignition coil cylinder 1 fault, causing p0301. Misfire. Replace with new ignition coil pack the tech inspected the engine. Found no obvious fault. No warning indicator. The computer shows the engine is running normally. He did check all the components & found a couple that was weak or will be going bad soon. The ignition coil for the remaining 3 cylinders is firing slightly weak. There are 4 coils, you replace 1, the remaining 3 are from the old engine, original until now. He's recommending having those coil packs replaced. That's helped the spark plug fire more properly. Also, the oxygen sensor on the exhaust pipe. The reading shows the O2 is switched late, meaning the electronic sensor is getting weak. It will fail soon, once it does, it will set the engine light . Engine mounts: right: with the engine at idle, performed an inspection of the engine compartment and found the engine shook. Turned the engine off & performed a visual inspection of the engine compartment & found that an engine mount was weak or damaged. The issue has been ongoing for months prior to this issue.

It's the truck latch issue that is being recalled on many vehicles. Might just locked (truck) and will not open. I will have to bring it in to the dealer but believe that my vehicle should be on the recall list as others have the same problem. Please help. Thank you.

Just bought this car used for my teenager. 127,000 miles and inspected by a mechanic and cleared with no issues. Brought it home and have driven it once and it has started making a clicking sound that goes away once the car warms up. Took it back to the mechanic who said it is a piston issue and the engine will need to be replaced. $4-7k to replace an engine on a car I just paid $9k to buy. I went looking online for more information and have seen numerous complaints and even a law suit settled out of court for this exact same issue but no recall. This is nuts. That it is known that the pistons are bad on this car and can potential blow up the engine and need replacing but nothing has been done to fix it.

I was driving my 2013 Elantra on the highway and I hit a chuck hole the engine shut off and was stuck in the middle of traffic. I also have had instances when I will be in traffic and car will shut off sometimes the car will restart immediately and sometimes it will not. The car has a box on the battery that will also become loose from vibration that will prevent car from restarting. Thank god I was able to put car I. Neutral and restart it. This poses a safety risk for not only myself but others. Also have had problems with the steering when you hit a bumb or a rough spot on the road car starts to shake and the ability to maintain control is effected. . The brake lights Jeep blowing. This car is just a safety haza6 period. It is the worst car I have ever have and regret everyday that I bought it. They should order not only safety recalls but a recall for all cars made in 2013.

When I start up and drive my car, the airbag light is on and it reamins on. I have nothing on or against the seat. Not sure if this means airbags are malfunctioning?.

My car was gone because the brakes were not properly working the day of my accident.

The trunk's latch fails to open from the inside or outside. I tried using a long screwdriver to release the latch from the inside and it won't give in, even when I try opening from the outside at the same time. I discovered this problem when the car was on and in park. I also failed to open it with the car off and the car in park.

The esc light illuminates periodically and will cause the car to stall while driving straight at speeds as low as 25 mph. I have had to drive with the esc system off for safety reasons, because this would be disastrous on the freeway or highway. There are no obd2 codes that are in the system. I changed out the steering flex coupler, because it had disintegrated, and was making steering difficult.

Bought used 3 weeks ago and it died while driving on incline, has been making a ticking noise, and sluggish, stereo turned off by itself.

We believe that the mpg program which we sued for is still bad, and we need some recalls done on the car.

One day while driving on a smooth road, my steering wheel began shaking and has not stopped since. I've taken it to our mechanic who indicated my rotors are fine, which he said would normally cause shaking like that. The steering wheel makes a clinking sound with the slightest movement, and every time I brake I have to firmly hold the steering wheel due to the excessive shaking. Sometimes my eps sensor will go off. My mechanic has replaced some parts-specifically a "plastic coupler" in the steering wheel, but this shaking keeps happening. After researching forums online many people have reported similar/same issues, and link it to a plastic coupler in the vehicle, that Hyundai says is not covered in any recalls.

Every time it rains . It hydroplanes real bad. On the highway. Anything over 40 mph. Back is trying to out run front of car. I put new tires on it all around still doesn't help.

First even though it is an eight year old car. It only has 28,540 miles on it. No accidents. For the past few weeks the esc light keeps coming on. I noticed there are many others with this manufacturer having the same problem, in fact there is a recall for this model ending in 2012. The dealer wants 850 to change replace the front left hub. I believe this is a manufacturing issue. Thank you michael turner.

Car spontaneously ignited while parked in driveway overnight. Engine had been off for 6 1/2 hours, keys were not in vehicle car is a total loss. Heat from fire damaged another auto parked nearby. Local fire department extinguished the blaze.

The key fob is not detected (intermittently). When this happens, I am left stranded. My car will not start. I have changed the battery in the fob when this occurs and I have tried to use my second key fob. The problem still is not aided. I have attempted to put the fob up to the start button, as some videos suggest. The problem still continues. Upon looking at forums and other places on the web where Hyundai customers communicate, it is obvious that this is a common problem among Hyundai customers. During this time, the car was stationary. This is a reoccurring issue. I even got the brake sensor replaced. The problem continues.

Moonroof exploded while driving on highway about 60-65 mph.

Driving past on the freeway and his truck kept swerving into our lane. I honked for our safety to warn him and protect myself and my toddler in the car from getting hit. He then proceeded to follow me with his wife in the car making hand gestures of shooting me and continued to attempt to swerve his truck.

For the last week after sitting overnight my car will not start. I get in while its parked stationary on the street, turn the key, all the lights come on, I can hear the fuel pump kick on, (there is no click), and nothing happens. After I repeatedly turn the key it has been starting but I am afraid it will just not start at some point. Called the dealer where I purchased they car, they said to call the Hyundai dealer. Called Hyundai dealer, they said they have not heard anything about the problem and would have to replicate problem (there are complaints all over the internet about this problem) they said I would have to leave the car with them, with no chance of a loaner (I cannot afford to uber 26 miles a day). I told them once I get it started for the day, it usually starts right back up after being turned off. I took a video of the problem this morning. It had the same trouble starting this morning when cold, and then when I got to work, 13 miles away, I turned it off and attempted to start it, it did the same thing (thats why I obtained the video of the issue). I am going to have to borrow a family members car to drive while they diagnose this widely reported problem they have "never heard of". I owned a 2007 Elantra since it was new and just sold it to buy this piece of garbage. . I never had one issue in 13 years of ownership. Hyundai needs to take accountability and recall this issue.

My Elantras brake lights are always on. My traction control light, eps light, abs light, and brake warning light are always on as well. I see where my vehicle is shown that the recalls have already been repaired on my car and I do not believe that is true or this would not be happening. My brakes lights constantly being on is a major problem because that can cause confusion on other drives and especially when I'm really using them to slow down. I'm always having to constantly replace the light bulbs on the left hand side of my vehicle as well which is odd. I'm very concerned and frustrated and wish I would receive assistance in fixing the problem. I have not been in any wrecks with my vehicle either. I also had someone check my car for any codes and vehicle speed sensor came up as well as brake switch.

We were driving to take one of my kids dr appointment. We stopped to get drinks for the road. We turned the car off came back to leave and it would not start fix the problem that it said and that didnt fix it. When you go to start it it wants to turn over but cant catch everything still works the way it should pistons move have power to everything,timing chain didnt jump the spark plugs still all get spark.

My sunroof exploded while driving. There were no other vehicles around me so there was no additional damage. It left my sunroof shattered with a large hole in the center.

I have a 2013 Hyundai Elantra coupe which is experiencing issues with the mdps flexible coupling. There is a clicking noise when you turn the steering wheel. This is currently covered under the recall for Hyundai Elantra and sonata but not the Elantra coupe 2 door model which I have. The Elantra coupe model should be included in the recall.

We brought our vehicle in, under warranty, for engine noises and stalling. We were told the previous owner could have neglected maintenance and we should do more frequent oil changes to solve the issue(oil sludge). This went on for months and the issue only got worse. By the time the issue was diagnosed(pistons), we were out of warranty and noone would help us. We later found out they covered some bearing issues, but not piston issues. We did everything recommended. They refuse to give me documents, I have asked many times for them(mcgrath Hyundai of cedar rapids). This was 2 years ago. We entered a class action suit thinking we would get the help we deserved. We aren't getting help from the settlement and they are now saying we were out of warranty upon purchase of the vehicle. If we had the money to replace we would be getting full reimbursement, but we get nothing since we were financially unable. The people that did get the replacement engine are still having issues. I would like this engine to be recalled because I feel it is unsafe and not the driver/purchasers fault.

The vehicle has a strange sound when started up in the mornings. Almost like a ticking or small knocking sound. When I put my car in reverse to back up it starts to jerk like it's about to shut off. Also that same jerking occurs while driving on the highway. When my car is at the speed 35 it starts to jerk like it's about to shut off too. It happens all day long between the speeds 35 to 65. When I turn on the ac my car makes a weird squeaking nose and also jerks like it's about to give out again. I have had all my fluids check and everything is just fine. I dont feel safe in my car. It started happening the same day I got my vehicle from a small used car lot on March 4th 2019. It's been happening since the day I have left. I called the guy who sold my the car and he told me t was probably the gas being bad since the car sit so long on the lot. But it has never stopped.

While driving my car it had sudden surge of acceleration continue while in neutral and park. Requiring to turn off engine. Excessive rpm caused the battery and alternator to malfunction. Causing lack of control of vehicle.

Veh shuts off when drops below 1-0 rpms, usually when making turns or slowing down to make a stop. On few occasions it turned off while just driving down street. Never know when it will happen . It's just like someone turns the key off, not a stall . This has been happening every day since at least Dec of 2018. . It is now Mar 2019. It is happening more & more frequently.

Takata recall the operator of the 2013 Hyundai Elantra when another vehicle attempted to make a left hand turn from the right lane and struck the vehicle. The vehicle was hit in the front right side and forcibly pushed into the street curb. This resulted in significant front end damage and the suspension of all four tires. The driver was injured and required medical attention on the scene. The driver's head impacted the driver's window, due to the failure of the side airbag to deploy, resulting in significant bruising and a serious concussion. The driver required medical attention in the emergency room. Driver was diagnosed with a concussion and upon further care a traumatic brain injury. The driver has sustained vision loss and hearing loss/tinnitus requiring hearing aids. The accident occurred on a city street while the Hyundai was in motion headed straight at approximately 20-25 mph. The at fault vehicle, a full size Ford SUV was driving in excess of the speed limit at approximately 40 mph. The accident was witnessed by the city of portland fire engine company and rescue team. A police report was filed. Approximately $6,000 in damages occurred. The vehicle was taken to the Hyundai dealership for further diagnostics at a rate of $128 per hour and was quoted at least 2. 5 hours to assess the vehicle. The vehicle has only 44,000 miles and has been maintained as scheduled.

I am having a problem with unintentional acceleration on my 2013 Hyundai Elantra. I have been in 2 near accidents in this car since I bought it in July of 2018. My regular mechanic thought it was a car mat problem and removed the mat. This was after my car accelerated so high that I jumped the curb and landed in the yard. It didn't stop until I put it in park. I have witnesses who saw this happen. I drove the car for 2 more weeks without the car mat and it happened again. This time with my niece in the car. It did not stop until I put it in park. I took it to my local Hyundai dealership but they do not take the car out driving enough to duplicate the problem and they want me to pick up the car. I am terrified to drive this car. I have researched this problem and find that it is a common problem with Hyundai vehicles. When is somebody going to do something about this? the first time it happened I was pulling into my parking spot in my apartment building. The second time I was driving and tried to stop at a red light when it happened. Hyundai doesn't give a damn. They think that after driving for over 40 years, I am suddenly getting my pedals mixed up!!!!! tell that to eliz lushaj who had the same problem. Please help!!!!!!!!!.

While driving (roughly 55-60 mph) on hwy 50 to tahoe the panoramic sunroof on my 2013 Hyundai Elantra gt spontaneously exploded. There was a loud shotgun sound which was followed by the glass of the sunroof falling between the cloth cover into the car on us. There was no rocks or giant pinecones near by that could have struck the car or caused the damage.

Possible crankshaft sensor failure. Car will not start properly or stalls after starting and shifting gears. Happens every few months. New battery, spark plugs and tune up completed July 2018. No alternator/starter issues noted after mechanical testing.

While driving on the turnpike at 75 mph my car shut off completely. It jerked violently and then powered back on. This happened in the dark and I didn't have any lights either. This has happened a total of 4 times while driving at speeds of 70 or more. Prior to this the eps light came on I took it in dealer and they couldn't find anything wrong with the car. I haven't taken in to the dealer as it will need to be towed. It is not safe to drive.

"takata recall" 2013 Elantra will disperse a huge cloud of smoke when accelerating quickly making it impossible for drivers behind me to see. This happens intermittently but most often when pulling out onto a busy highway making it incredibly unsafe for people behind me. There is so much smoke it takes about 30 seconds to a minute to for me to see the cars behind me. There are numerous complaints on line about this and videos of it happening. Dealer told me it was because of an overflow of oil because I was getting oil changes outside the dealer. The deal changed my oil it continues to happen. Different dealers have different excuses of why this is happening. It's very dangerous for the drivers behind these vehicles and I am sure not good for the car.
