My 2013 Hyundai Elantra GLS has the swerving problem. Any time I'm on an uneven patch of road or a bump, it's like I lose control of my car. You have to keep 2 hands on the wheel at all times to try & keep some control. I hope you agree that this is a safety issue. Please open an investigation. This safety defect exists in a group of cars please order a recall.
I purchased this car in July 2014. A. 2013 hyundia Elantra and after 3 weeks the front passenger tire went out after barely hitting curb around by September 2014, the drivers tire was deflating replaced. On 2/10/2015 the tire in rear went out while driving on highway, the dealership says it could because a nail got into the tire and caused the problem. It just seems a bit unusal for 3 tires in less than a year of owning this vehicle, which was new purchased July 2014. 2013 hyundia Elantra.
My 2013 Elantra coupe fishtails when you hit a bump or uneven place in the road. This is a very scary feeling and will cause accidents. I am very shocked that hyundia has not recalled these cars for safety reasons because there are many many complaints on here so it must have been brought to their attention. It is my hope that they recall this issue now before there are more accidents. I also have the problem with the truck popping open while inside a store.
As others have mentioned, I have had both problems starting the vehicle (the car could not be started on two occasions so far, despite having adequate fuel and a charged battery), and with the rear of the car swinging out when traveling over a bump or on slippery road conditions (even at speeds as low as 35 mph, there is a noticeable kick from the rear of the vehicle, which has worsened with time). For both cases, the dealer was unable to find an issue, and/or said any kind problem was "within tolerance. ".
The contact owns a 2013 Hyundai Elantra. The contact stated that the suspension caused the tires to become flat when driving over a pothole at speeds between 30-60 mph. The contact had to replace the tires four times in two weeks. In addition, the tires experienced bubbles in the sidewalls. The tires had to be replaced due to the safety risk involved. The contact stated that the tires were replaced a total of six times. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 20,000. The VIN was not available.
As soon as I bought my car and drove it away, I noticed that it fish tails when it drives over uneven roads or potholes. My first time on the freeway with it was definitely a frightening experience. As soon as I hit about 60 mph I was fishtailing so bad that I had to death grip my steering wheel with both hands until I could exit off. I feared for my life, I seriously felt like I was going to lose control of my vehicle and crash. I try to avoid the freeway as much as I can. I don't know if the back end is too light weight or what, but this issue really needs to be investigated. The loss of control over a vehicle is a huge deal and can lead to fatalities.
While driving at highway speed if I hit a slight bump or irregularity in the road rear end of car jumps around. On wet or slick roads it is even worse. From the complaints I have read I am not the only one with this problem. Hyundai needs to recall these vehicles and fix this problem before someone loses their life. I may just trade it and get a car that handles the way it should.
Since buying this car in November 2014, I noticed an issue with stability while driving on the highway and was unsure as to what was causing the car to feel like it was jumping after hitting small bumps. After doing some research I understand now that it is the suspension that is causing this instability. The bumps I hit on the highway are not major bumps, these are just the small ones that transition from section to section of the highway so I know it isn't the road I drive on, it is the car. This is actually the third Hyundai I have owned, and have never had any issues like this with their vehicles. I have always felt safe while driving them until this Hyundai Elantra 2013. Also while driving on the highway, anywhere from 45-65mph the driving stability feels unsafe and the vehicle wavers back and forth on the highway, having to always correct it. When it is windy it is extremely worse. I cannot believe Hyundai made a car this unsafe. Driving this winter I have only hoped that the jumping and wavering didn't cause an accident on the highway. That is completely unacceptable to feel that way in a newer vehicle. Please continue looking into and investigating this issue as the company should be made responsible for these issues.
They car drives fine until you hit a any sort of bump or hole in the road. When that happens the back end wiggles and in the rain it is much worse. It is even worse on the highway going at a higher speed. I have read several other complaints online with drivers facing similar issues. I am worried that it will one day lose control. I do not feel like I am in control of the car, I've taken it to the dealer several times and they say everything is fine and that is just how the car drives.
I bought my 2013 Hyundai Elantra gt on September 12, 2014, it had 41053 miles on it. As I left the dealership it was raining very hard and I noticed that it was very difficult to keep the car in my lane; my car was pulling to the right, not only that, I hit a bump or manhole and the bad end of the car fishtailed so bad that I thought I was going to hit the car that was in the right lane. I was driving a few days later, I hit another pothole and the car did that same thing but this time the roads were dry. At this point, I realize that the first incident had nothing to do with the roads being wet, it was the suspension on the car that's causes the car to pull to one side and for it to fishtail the way it does. I did some research and I realized that Hyundai owners have complained about this problem for quite sometime but the Hyundai corporation fails to acknowledge this as a problem; this is a very dangerous problem. To be honest, I'm a little frighten to drive my car; Hyundai corporation needs to acknowledge that there is a suspension problem with the make and model and they need to do something to correct this problem ASAP before someone loses their life.
I drive 2013 Hyundai Elantra, rear suspension is terrible, very unstable even on small bumps. It's dangerous and unsafe!.
Car purchased new (limited trim) in December 2012. During winter 2013 (Dec/Jan timefrime), I hit a significant pothole ona local highway on-ramp blowing out the front passenger-side tire. After being towed to a local repair shop (no spare tire supplied), tire was replaced with a new identical tire. Service station called asking for authorization to replace d/s front tire also since it had a side-wall bubble. I declined permission and when I picked up the car brought it to advantage Hyundai for the second tire. On July 11, 2014, I found another sidewall bubble on the d/s front tire and had the same dealer again sell me a new tire. Today 10 days later, another front d/s tire sidewall bubble. No abnormal potholes encountered. Including the blowout, this is four tire failures in 19 months and 25,000 miles. Tires are 17" low profiles and rubber is from hankook. Situation is unsettling. This is a dangerous situation for anyone driving in this vehicle.
When driving on the freeway approx 65 mph and you hit a pothole or uneven road the car sways back and forth like a boat I have new tires and just got it aligned thinking it would help but it still sways and feels like it will jump into the other lane. I had noticed it before but didnt think too much until my son drove it and mentioned something. I have viewed the other complaints about this so I know I am not alone thinking this is unsafe.
On my way to work I was exiting the highway and I hit a bump. I was taken by surprise as what felt like the rear of the car bounced up abnormally and lurch toward the guard rail. The handling on rough surfaces is awful. This could lead to an accident. I just bought this car used and the engine is noisy which I am told this is the timing chain. I never had a car like this in my long life. The handling really worries me. Sucks!.
I have found that since purchasing my Hyundai Elantra that anytime I hit a pothole or bump that the whole car shifts to the right or left. I went around a corner the other day at a low speed and hit a bump, the whole back end slid to the right. I find this very unsettling. I'm not sure if this is a suspension problem with my vehicle or a vehicle defect in general with this car. I find it unsettling and unsafe that my car cannot handle even the slightest bump without the whole car shifting to one side or the other. Have you had any other complaints about this vehicle? I was not made aware of any issues when purchasing this car but am concerned enough about it to bring this to your attention.
When you drive over a bump / pot hole / road irregulatrity the rear end of the car jumps and acts as if it is going to fishtail (like hitting a patch of ice in the wintertime). This occurs at any speed above 25 and get more pronounced the faster you are driving. A quick search of the internet indicates that this is not isolated to just my car.
Recall please !! I spent my life savings on this car and it is dangerous to drive. The car fish tails over small bumps and at low speeds. In winter driving its almost out of control and a separate set of snow tires is mandatory so you don't get killed. When it crosses railroad tracks it actually tends to turn on its own onto the direction of the tracks ! if you hit a dip in the road the car seems to lose control. And at highway speeds forget it - it sways across the lanes on its own as if it is constantly catching the wind. I cannot drive it on the highway - I am white knuckled by just a short trip trying to keep control of this car. This car is more of boat then an automobile. If I sell the car my losses will be huge. I got a wheel alignment, tires and took it into the dealer all to no avail and the problem is getting worse as the car is aging too. Basically the dealer said this is the way the car is built too bad so sad.
Rental car, Hyundai Elantra 2013, from enterprise. Vehicle unsafe to drive, can lose steering control very easily, which I experienced first hand during rainy conditions. The other drivers in front and behind me did not have any issues with steering, but this vehicle lost control. . . Updated 07/15/14.
The contact owns a 2013 Hyundai Elantra. While driving over a small bump at approximately 55 mph, the vehicle bounced roughly. The failure occurred for three months. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The manufacturer was not notified. The approximate failure mileage was 30,000. Updated 8/12/cn.
From the day I bought the car home seemed alittle funny how the back of the car shifts around. Thought maybe after a few miles it would go away. The next day my dad took the car out for a drive and noticed the same thing. Now today on the highway was driving back from work and hit a little bump with a very small curve and I tought I would crash into the dividers. The back of the car shifted around alot. Almost lost total control of the car for a good few seconds. Scared the hell out of me. Wondering why Hyundai has not made a recall on this situation. By the way it is not my first time I noitced the car doing this. Was seraching around seems like this is a very big problem on the Elantra's. Is Hyundai just waiting for a big lawsuit to happen?.
I purchased the 2013 Hyundai Elantra GLS with 13,400 miles on February 15, 2014. After a few days of driving the vehicle I realized that the car floats all over the road when driving pretty much at any speed. You have to hold the steering wheel with both hands to keep control of the vehicle. The rear of the vehicle also jumps around when driving over imperfections on the roadway. The back end suspension is very stiff and when going over these imperfections the vehicles veers into another lane or shoulder. I have called Hyundai with no response and emailed them only to be told to bring it to a Hyundai dealership. I brought the vehicle to the freehold Hyundai dealership twice now and was told the vehicle operates to factory specs. This is an unacceptable answer. I have a family and fear that an accident is going to occur with this vehicle due to the poor handling and someone is going to get injured or even killed. I demand Hyundai reimburse me for what I have paid for this vehicle or issue a recall and fix the problems that many of the Elantra owners are dealing with.
The esc pitched the car sideways @ 65mph on I-84 s of sturbridge MA. The car has no directional stability as it wanders side-to-side requiring constant steering control.
The rear end of the car jumps around and feels unstable in wind or on wet or uneven surfaces. It feels like I could easily lose control, very frightening. I have 4/32 tire tread left on 60k michelins after only 32k miles driven. The first set of tires lasted only 28k. This form will not let me proceed without a date, but this is a continuous problem, not a one time thing.
While traveling on the interstate, if you hit a bump, the rear end sways. Sometimes it sways so much it feels as if I am not in control of the vehicle. It seems to happen at speeds over 45 mph. The car doesn't feel safe to drive.
While driving on freeway and driving through normal traffic flow, drove on wide curve portion on road, I ran into some uneven portions of road when on curve and rear end of vehicle felt like swaying (slightly loosing control). Felt real loose. This also happens on uneven roads on straightaways. This happened at speeds between 60-70 as this happened quite often on uneven roads. Did not notify dealer on this directly, notified them on Hyundai (e-mail to me) on vehicle satisfactory suggestion report.
I purchased the 2013 Hyundai Elantra GLS with 13461 miles on 2/15/14. The first few days I drove the vehicle locally everything seemed ok. A few days later once the vehicle was driven on bumpy uneven roadways the rear end of the vehicle appears to not stay in line with the front of the vehicle. When driving over uneven surfaces or bumps at speeds of 30mph and up the rear end seems to be out of control making the vehicle veer into another lane. The suspension on the vehicle for such low miles is also very noisy and rattles over the slightest imperfections on the road. The vehicle was serviced on 3/12/14 and the Hyundai service advisor stated that a Hyundai tech test drove the vehicle and stated that the vehicle is operating as designed. Also they found that the rotors had rust on them and had to be resurfaced/machined. Rotors should not go bad with a vehicle that has low miles. I purchased this car for the safety of my family and now am stuck with years of payments. I am not a happy Hyundai consumer. I have seen numerous complains for the same issue. A recall needs to be done on this vehicle for the suspension problem.
Hitting a pothole at. Low speed destroyed my tire and bent the rim. This is the fourth tire lost under similar conditions. The impact seems to be borne by the rim which then crushes the tire. This complaint about the 2013 Elantra shows up in numerous reports on the cars. Com website.
Rear of car bounces around when traveling over bumps are speeds as slow as 25 mph. Now at 14,000 miles the rear drivers tire is wearing badly on inside of tire. Car is getting increasingly or unstable at speeds when going over rough roads, rr tracks. Dealer has been rude and uncooperative and tells me to change my driving style. This is a dangerous car for the inexperienced driver, I have to compensate for the defect.
Noticed when I test drove this vehicle in April 2013 when it hit small bumps in the road it seemed unsteady in the back. Thought it was just the dynamics of a new vehicle I would get used to. I'm used to driving dynamics of small vehicles. There have been a few times where I've been driving at speeds between 20-70mph when I hit a bump on a straight/curved road and vehicle would shake wildly and feel like it was out of control. Today we have snow covered/slushy roads and I've been particularly cautious. At ~60mph on i70 (which was clear and plowed), I moved to the passing lane to go around a slower vehicle before a creek bridge. When I hit the edge of the bridge I completed the maneuver, but a small lip on the section of bridge meeting the road caused the vehicle to fishtail and almost hit the vehicle next to me. I was fighting for control of the vehicle for 300 feet, which is worse than I have ever experienced in this vehicle, hence the reason I wrote this complaint. It felt like another experience I had in a fiat with a bent rear axle, every time it would hop over a bump it would wobble in the back end and yet it felt slightly different because I couldn't correct it quickly when the car should have settled. From reading other people's complaints, it seems plausible that the problem with the Elantra may in fact be in the front end with the power steering auto-correct to center. That is what it felt like I was fighting those 300 feet, not the dynamics of the four wheels not being square on the road, but instead like as if the car was fighting me. Something needs to be done because I could have lost control with kids in the car. Judging from other people's experiences with their dealers on the issue, what is the point if they're just going to give us the run-around and inconvenience us even more by withholding our vehicles and then giving them back without a fix?.
The first time I took the car on the open road, 3 days after I purchased the car, is when I noticed the problem. The Elantra feels like it's wants to fishtail every time I drive over a small pothole or slightly uneven pavement. I would only be traveling around 65 mph, so I wasn't going very fast. Also, any little cross breeze (12-15 mph) will cause the car to swerve all over the place, to the point that I have to get off the highway and take the access roads. There is something very wrong with this suspension and something must be done to resolve the problem before someone gets killed, if it hasn't happened already.
Driving on freeway at speed of approx. 65-70, hit off level pavement on right side on road while braking to slow (for traffic) and brake pedal hardened (pedal hard to press for few seconds) while making clicking sound, but then functioned properly. Felt like front pass wheel. Figured nothing. Months passed, driving in shopping center and going over speed bump at about 5 mph and front wheel made clicking again while braking to slow further and brake pedal hardened again (difficult to press for few seconds) then functioned properly. Took car to dealer for regular maintenance and informed dealer of situation and service rep claimed it was how the abs system worked and that was all it was, the abs system working. Told him this problem does not happen when the left wheel is involved hitting or going over bump. First time owned vehicle with abs but I think the brake pedal is not suppose to harden up while abs system is functioning as this would limit any braking capacity. Feels like there is a bigger problem and dealer is not taking it seriously. Original owner since 7/31/13, this problem has happed at least 4 times and all seemed to only involve the front passenger wheel.
I was driving straight across a bridge the back end started to fishtail it went back and forth several times- I could not get it under control it finally spun out and killed looking into on coming traffic. The fish tailing has happened several times since then. I have only had the car 6 weeks and am scared to drive it. I have read that this is a known problem for this car. What I can't understand is why there has not been a recall on this.
I previously owned a 2012 Elantra and had no complaints, I traded it for the 2013 and have serious concerns. When the roads are dry the car drives great, however when the roads are wet or plowed snow I have very little control over the rear of the vehicle. I spent $800 for new snow tires hoping that would make a difference but it does not. I drive 150 miles per day round trip for work and it is mostly interstate. When it rains or snows I am not able to safely drive over 40-50mph without the rear end swaying and fishtailing. Every other car is travelling at highway speeds and there I am in the right lane just struggling to keep my car on the road at 45mph. I am frustrated that my hyndai dealer and the Hyundai office are totally disregarding my safety by not acknowledging that this is a serious safety issue. Keep in mind that this is not a tire issue because the problem exists even after new snow tires are put on the car. Also, it is not a winter driving issue because the car reacts the same way when it is raining outside.
Vehicle fishtails and sways when hitting a bump or a seam in the road. This happens every time. Yesterday evening I hit a seam in the road on a curve (dry pavement) and it threw me into the other lane. I'm grateful there was not a car in the other lane it would have caused an accident. Dealership states there is no recall or known issue but this is a very dangerous characteristic of this vehicle and it's going to cause great injury to an owner or passenger. In researching this problem there are many other 2013 Elantra owners experiencing this same issue.
At speeds greater than 35 mph on rough roads rear end of car will slide out to right causing vehicle to head towards incoming traffic. If brakes are applied when vehicle loses control abs activates and car seems to leave ground. This continues to happen over and over. Car dealer repair says this is not happening. Notes this might be the first time I had this type of suspension. Car does not feel safe on interstate. I've tested the bump out in an empty lot. If not correct by hard steering car will depart lane.
