6 Accelerator Pedal problem of the 2005 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 02/03/2006

I am having some what the same issue my husband had with his 2002 Elantra which was reported to your organization, and had resulted in an accident. In my 2005 Elantra the manufacturer evidently knew what the issue was in the 2002 and has now moved the brake pedal . 75 of an inch to the left. This unfortunately only satisfied half of the problem. The brake pedal, when braking, still goes one inch below the accelerator thereby resulting in simultaneous braking and acceleration. If my husband had not discovered the problem, and installed corrective measures, I would have probably crashed. However, he had measured and corrected everything before I would take my first trip! I feel sorry for john doe as probably 99% of drivers would not realize what was the actual cause of their accident! I also cannot believe the government would not take action against Hyundai to correct this issue in all of the Elantra's so affected. You have to realize in most cases this is a blind issue as the driver will not be aware what the actual cause was. Recently a john doe filed a complaint listed on mycarstats. Com whereby he continuously had the same issue and the dealer could not find the cause!.

7 Accelerator Pedal problem of the 2002 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 11/03/2005

On 11/03/05 I had an accident where I rear ended another vehicle. I did not realize exactly what happened at the time of the accident, but did tell the police something was wrong with either the brakes or the tires. I just had a very uncomfortable feeling when attempting to stop! I felt as though the vehicle was coasting. The damage to my vehicle was $1,385. 00 and I have no idea of the damage to the other vehicle. I subsequently discovered, after duplicating the incident, my foot was on both the brake and accelerator. The brake pedal, on the Hyundai Elantra, is 2. 25 inches from the accelerator. A similar incident resulted in a 424,000 vehicle recall and correction by Ford motor CO. In their case the relationship was 1. 95 inches this distance to the accelerator, on the Elantra, was not the major issue, the brake pedal is only one inch above the accelerator and when fully braking the brake is one inch below the accelerator. When you combine the two the end result may be devastating. I have a second vehicle, a Hyundai sonata, in this one the brake is 3. 25 inches from the accelerator and also is 2. 25 inches above the accelerator. Upon braking the brake pedal remains . 50 inches above the accelerator. No problem!.
